England (122/5) defeat Namibia (84/3) comfortably by 41 runs to keep their Super 8 qualification hopes alive

All in all, I think this tournament has been a massive bust. Constant rain in key matches, some bad pitches, absolutely awful match timings and all of it just to make the Americans care about cricket. Which they won't anyway.
I don't remember any pleasant T20 game in this tournament involving big teams.

This looks a done game. Namibia will be chasing 120+ in their 10 overs. England have 4 pace options today.

Why would u save wiese when he was bowling good. 11 over is already a death game why save him another over of even 7 8 runs would ve been gold from him.

England is needed in the next round to challenge Australia. Only team that can challenge them.

Because rain had interrupted and suddenly the 11 overs game became 10.

From 29/2 after 4 overs to 122/5 after 10. Insane recovery from ENG.

You'd expect too much for Namibia to chase.

What is par score for Namibia to socre in 5 overs? In case rain comes after 6 overs and match stops.

England quickly getting to 5 overs so it constitutes a game...good as I need a team to support this World Cup!

Namibia need to take more risks. It's a 10 over match, what are you saving your wickets for? Wiese needs to come in at No. 3 or No. 4.

Namibia bowled too much length and not enough slower balls into the pitch. Poor stuff from the minnows.

So England are allowed to wait all day to play the match, had it been Pakistan they would of abandoned the game hours ago

England batted well I thought.
An above par score.

All on Scotland v Australia now.

Yep, needs an interesting Super 8 stage or this one will go down as a dud.

Good start from Namibia.

Quickly worked out the lengths to bowl with movement on offer. Pakistan's pacers always take too long before adapting their bowling to conditions.
Great adaption by Namibian bowlers. I wonder how many they would have conceded if they didn’t adapt.

I’m starting to think that England would have chased down the runs against Scotland. They had enough power in the batting lineup to complete that chase.

Brook keeps alive England's chances of title defence with victory over Namibia

Jos Buttler's side need a win to give themselves any chance of progressing to the Super 8s. England's hopes of defending their title at the ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup continue - at least for the time being, beating Namibia by 41 runs (DLS method).

Jos Buttler's side made 122/5 in a truncated match - knowing they had to win to ensure their place in the Super 8s.

And brilliant batting from Harry Brook, who made 47 off 20 balls, got them part of the way there.

After a mid-innings rain delay, the match was reduced from its original rain-delayed 11 overs a side to 10 overs a side, meaning Namibia had to chase a DLS-adjusted 127 to win.

A heavy defeat against Australia followed by a resounding win over Oman plus a washout against Scotland in the opener had left the defending champions in a perilous position.

After a lengthy rain delay, when play finally began Jos Buttler fell in the second over of England's innings for a duck, bowled superbly by Ruben Trumpelmann.

And fellow opener Phil Salt fell in the next over to David Wiese, leaving England 13/2.

It was left to Jonny Bairstow and Brook to steady the ship putting on a solid partnership of 56 – before Bairstow was caught by wicketkeeper Zane Green off Bernard Scholtz.

Rain stopped play with England 82/3, and when they returned to the field Brook then got great support from Moeen Ali (16) and later Liam Livingstone, who was run out in the final ball of the innings having faced four balls and scored 13.

Valiant effort from Namibia
With a sizeable target to chase, Namibia's openers knew they had their work cut out. Having made 44 together with fellow opener Michael van Lingen, Nikolaas Davin retired out at the end of the sixth over.

It brought Wiese to the crease, promoted up the order, and he soon showed why with some epic hitting, notably two sixes and a four in successive Adil Rashid balls.

But the England bowlers did what had to be done, limiting Namibia to a total of 84/3, with Brook once again integral, taking catches to remove van Lingen off a Chris Jordan delivery and then to dismiss Wiese off Jofra Archer in the last over.

Now they just have to rely on australia not intentionally throwing their game
They may think twice about it since the ICC have threatened to ban Marsh for 2 games if they intentionally tank their performance

Scotland can win on their own. This is T20. Any team can win.

Even Zimbabwe beat Ricky Ponting's Australia in 2007 World T20.

shocks are possible but aussie bowling is too good for them to not win unless it's intentional
I would like to be surprised since minnows stepping up is good for the game but I don't think it's happening unless Australia themselves want it to

It depends on which minnow. Not all minnows are same.

If it was Uganda or PNG, you had a point. But, Scotland is one of the strongest associates.

I believe Aussies should win but it wouldn't shock me if Scotland win.

Wiese and Trumpelmann bowled well in the first two overs. Then they brought on the spinners who released all the pressure.

It does help watching a match live before shooting from hip.

I watched the whole match.

Namibia did nothing special. The ball was moving around because of the overhead conditions & their bowlers bowl at the right speed to exploit the conditions.

It wasn’t something that they “worked out”; it is just the pace at which they bowl & which suited the conditions.

It does help waiting for more than 2 overs & watching how things unfold before jumping the gun in excitement just so that you can take potshots at your own team.

They should have sent in Wiese to open. Game could have been different then.

The potshots are fully deserved. In similar gloomy, damp conditions in New York vs India, despite plenty of assistance for the seamers, we still conceded 50 runs in the Powerplay. It wasn't just their pace - Wiese and Trumpelmann in those first couple of overs bowled a good length.

Infact the latter has outbowled Shaheen in this tournament, and I'm a big supporter of Shaheen (who should've captained at this event).

I will continue to lambast this team for our worst ever showing at a T20 World Cup at every opportunity no matter who it upsets. They deserve nothing less.
