England [231/9] beat Australia [207] by 24 runs to win the second ODI

Aus got lazy careless. Eng were 149/8 at one point. Result doesn't show how much Australia dominated Eng in this series.

WHAT THE HELL

They were just winning the game. 2 down. how the hell did they went 8 down

Carey and Stonis have done well in domestic cricket batting at the top of the order. I know Stonis has batted at 3 in these 2 games but for the majority of his Australian career he has batted in the middle order. Justin Langer needs to explain why he continually selects these 2 to bat in the middle order when he could select specialist middle order players instead .

Some laughable posts in this thread. You can never count England out these days.

Super clutch team that is capable of winning from the most hopeless situations.

That World Cup win is still difficult to digest for some.

They just love embarrassing and humiliating themselves by underrating England and doing bhangra whenever they look like losing.

Australia dominated the T20 series, yet lost. The same is happening in the ODI series; Australia could very well lose the series from here on. England are very lucky. Fluke wins.

If Aus loses this which is looking likely, Langer might have a word with whole team especially Carey and I am guessing those words wont be good. :therock

If Carey doesn't have confidence and belief in himself, it would be best to drop him for a few games.

England beating Australia is one of the greatest joys of the game. You never get tired of it.

Absolutely poor from Carey even he wins it.. he don't have belief in himself.. there'll couple of Rashid & part timers overs.. he just need to wait instead he giving strikes to Hazlewood..

This is poor from Carey..

Even a 50 year old MSD will never do that, he will still back himself to hit all 6 bowls.

Carey jets off to the IPL after this series and his side is coached by Ricky Ponting. Hopefully he can help him get some confidence and belief back.

Finally some intent from Carey. Regardless, I haven't seem a more spineless and pathetic batting display in a while.

Hazelwood has rotated strike much better than Zampa did. Zampa playing a lot of dots certainly didn't help Australia.

What a comeback by England. Justin Langer has a lot to answer for . Alex Carey as well.

I wont be surprised if Carey warms the bench for the final. Not his fault alone but his batting at the end was not upto the mark

Congrats England.. Carey need to be dropped after that performance..

Top stuff from England, Archer and Woakes were exceptional and exploited the conditions well in the middle overs

England bowled well, but what the hell were Australia doing.

Shambolic batting performance and they panicked as soon as they lost a couple of wickets.

Commendable fight back by England, proving their status as world champs. I never thought that this attack can defend such totals.

Probably not without Archer, but he brings genuine X and fear-factor. He is exactly the bowler England lacked in ODI cricket during the 2015-2018 period.

They wouldn’t have won the World Cup without him.

Incredible stuff from England, as said I felt we'd have chance after knocking over the top order but I was wrong in thinking Rashy primarily would get us over the line, he was crucial however at the end of both innings! Archer was outstanding and what a joy he is to watch, I look forward to watching his development at the Test level to but as it stands in the shorter forms, I may be biased but I feel he is the best in the world, who'd not have him as their first pick? my MVP will be Morgan, outstanding captaincy; not the first time and I doubt it will be the last, so composed and was very positive throughout

Archer is the best in the world. The most charismatic, box office fast bowler since....I don’t know.

I have to agree, he is probably my favourite bowler to watch in that regard since Shoaib Akhtar; I want to see him make a similar transition to the Tests, that will be exciting to watch; he has age on his side to develop nicely in our set up, having said that he will arguably be the most crucial bowler down under, imagine all that pace and bounce at the WACA!

Some very let's say strange cricket out there today.

Some very bizarre incidents and phases of play.

1-1 means that interest is maintained, I guess 2-0 would have meant the series was over.

Turning out to be a decent summer for ECB despite covid as interest has been maintained in every single series since the WI tests. :smith

Archer was brilliant today, but my MoM was Woakes - first added 26 invaluable runs from hopeless situation of 160/8 or so; then broke Aussie backbone in one spell - Labus, Finch, Maxwell.

But yes, indeed he has added one extra gear to English attack.

Aussies threw it away again. It was a great opportunity for them to wrap up the series.

Carey did a Dhoni here.. Dhoni had a motive.. Wonder what motive Carey had.. there are no points to worry about this,no net run rate issues and no padosis to be left heart broken..

Saj bhai do you feel something is dodgy.. It looked a bit dodgy to me with Careys approach TBH.. not sure though.

And Wood. And Rashid.

Remember when people said the England ODI attack was popgun?

Not playing Smith when he had cleared concussion tests reeks of overconfidence from the Australian management.

me too. I love watching archer bowl. He has been pretty average in tests but in odi and t20 he is up there amongst the top 3. Far better than overrated cummins.

SHANE WARNE:

"Australia hadn’t played cricket for quite a long time so you sort of excuse them [that collapse] in the first T20, even though it cost them that series. They have been pretty good since then but tonight will be a real punch in the guts for Australia. They pride themselves on getting over the line in those sorts of games and doing the basics well but they didn’t. They weren’t good enough, so it’s 1-1 ahead of the last day of the international summer. Who writes these scripts?"

It’s never over until it’s over!

That was magnificent to watch. The final hour of the game — and particularly the sight of Archer and Woakes running in under lights and repeatedly making a mess of the Aussie stumps within an incredible 15 minutes — was a genuinely glorious experience.

For England to be at 147/8 batting first, and to then somehow pull a 20-run win out of the hat several hours later, was the most astonishing of comebacks.

All to play for in the decider. Can’t wait.
