What's new

England beat Pakistan by 3 wickets in the first Test at Manchester in a close encounter

This performance is not gonna let them perform in other matches ada well. They might not overcome this... Whta a bad start to the season... Other matches are gonna be absolute one sided.

The partnership between Buttler & Woakes is now 20 overs long - Pakistan haven't bowled a single maiden since the two have come together.

The pair has managed to hit atleast a boundary in 12 of these 20 overs.

To be honest, Shaheen has been disappointing in this game so far - his only wicket in this innings was probably due to ball hitting a crack. Going at 3.5+ and not looking to trouble batsmen what so ever.

Best bowler for PAK - without any doubt, Abbas

Can not believe the coaaching staff picked up on bowling short to Woakes from the first ball, he had an average of FIVE in his last 5 matches

Last chance stop (drinks break). No Wasim/Waqar/Shoaib to clean the tail either. Aah well. On to Southampton now.

Wasim Khan needs to be blamed. Instead of finding better coach than Mickey he selected a person as coach who has lack of aggression and no job requirement criteria.

There'll be the standard excuse after this series - "this is young team, vee are learning."

I've been hearing this for 20 years. Yet the bowling plans, game awareness of our batsmen, and our refusal to discard non-performing seniors never change.

I really don't think Babar or Shan would do worse than this. Surely Azhar cannot continue as captain if he doesn't score runs and shows poor tactics.

If Pak looses the series and this extraordinary form of Azhar continues it would be pretty much on the cards but then again you never know.

Better to stop following these people... They just all talk... No where near to other teams..
Waqar younis seems himself to have forgotten anything about bowling. These guys are young and required some input through out to get the plan right.
They have been lost

Nothing much to say
Eng have played unexpected blinders and taken this game away. Can't really blame bowlers too much.

Maybe can accuse 2nd inns batting but TBF we overachieved in first inns and 277 was a well above par 4th inns target

are my speakers busted or is ptv sports quality on ptcl really that bad?

Nah, I think most other sides yes. But Pakistan’s form has little bearing on present on future. Went from Lord’s (2016) to Manchester and then almost one at Edgbaston, then despite having bottled Edgbaston won at the Oval. And many other similar occasions bro.

People will say we bottled this. But it wasn't bottling it. If we lose its because we aren't good enough. India,Australia, and England would have won the game if they were in the position we were in when the 3rd innings started.

Gifted this game 156 from Shan Masood wasted if only Azhar Ponting had scored some runs

The team has two category of players. Over 30s and under 21s. Perfect combination of senior, junior garbage. Juniors don't have the patience, and the seniors don't have the agility. Add to that lack of brain cells. This is not a sports team - it is a player lounge.

How many players do we have in the 24-28 bracket? Can only think of Babar.

After the masquerade of Day 1 and Day 2, both our batting and bowling has been exposed. Had every chance to hide it had we been smart in the way we approached our second innings but oh well.

Now Misbah chachu will put more fielding drills for the young players as a sign of aggression, and let Abid, Yasir, Asad, Azhar skip them with convenience.

Pakistan need repeat of 1999 Chennai Test. Target was 270 for India. India were also 216/5 after big partnership between Tendulkar and Mongia. If we could dismiss Tendulkar, we can dismiss Buttler. Yasir Shah needs to do a Saqlain Mushtaq here...

Don’t want to open the flood gates but was an OK tail in 2018 etc.

Didn't help that Amir, Wahab chose to retire and Hasan is always injured.

This is all a bit too much for this young and inexperienced pace attack. Same happened in Australia.

Yasir is the culprit once again. He was supposed to run rings around English on a crumbling day 4 pitch.

england are 67 percent favoutires. this switched from us being at 80 at one point when these both were batting

This is the difference between Pak and other top sides. We crumble under pressure and they excel

When one gets scared in the mind then around the wicket nonsense starts. England have been brave. Very brave

This is what happens when you are obsessed with Talent and Technique nonsense.

Yet to see a focus on Temperament over the past 2 decades.

Simply don't know how cricket is played. No Akkal whatsoever.

Ever wondered why Javed Miandad became a great player without all the talent and technique.

How on earth have Pakistan found themselves in this position :)). Pak had 90% chance of winning

Immense credit to buttler and woakes so far, countered well under pressure

They just played their natural game. They were bold to start off with a few sweeps and drives but after that there wasn't wasn't much pressure. The field went deep, singles on offer, and the plan was to nick to slips so they knew the length that was coming too.

captains in my opinion are meant to lead by example. When your captain sucks and often goes missing in games due to poor batting then it would certainly affect the team's morale.

Pakistan leadership should get together and decide to mankad Buttler. This is the only way forward. Just do it.

So the issues people were worried about before this series have become relevant now:

1) Azhar's defensive captaincy
2) Azhar's batting performance as captain
3) Why Fawad Alam not given a chance
4) Pakistan's ability to take wickets without reverse swing helping them

I think the writing is clear on the wall that Pakistan need to score a lot of runs to compete with England because their bowling lacks venom

Abid definitely needs to be dropped

Abid cashed in on the 'media and internal hate due to supposed nepotism' that Imam encountered. And the same journalists who criticized Imam despite his good record will now go into hiding.

man you watch this match on sky sports and you see some very good ads.

Watch the same broadcast on Ptv sports, and you see such stupid adds. Service add where a guy is slapping his tyre

Senior Pak Cricketers don't have any self respect. Azhar could have retired on a high note after CT 2017 final. But choose to ruin his reputation.

This is it. It was 117-5. If we add a few reverse sweeps, drives etc, then that got them 20-30 quick ones. An experience captain would not mind that. But if you play into their hands by opening the field up, it’s game over. They are not Shahid Afridi’s (compulsive hitters/sloggers). Sorry, but from 117-5 I think losing it has to do with captaincy.

Partially, but still main blame will go to pacers who leaked runs at 3.5+ rate, not allowing Azhar to tighten screw. England played well also.
