Harry Kane "made the correct decision" in joining Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur, says the Premier League's all-time top scorer Alan Shearer.

Harry Kane said he did not want to finish his career with any "regrets" following his move to Bayern Munich.

The 30-year-old England captain left Tottenham after 19 years on Saturday to join the German champions for an initial 100m euros (£86m).

He made his Bayern debut as they lost 3-0 to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup later in the day.

Striker Kane said his family were "fully behind" him and he had made "the best decision".

He said: "I didn't want to get to the end of my career with regrets at not experiencing different leagues and cultures.

"I spent my whole career in England and the Premier League, so it may take a bit of adapting to get used to a new league.

"As you saw yesterday with Leipzig, there are some great teams in this league and it is going to be a real challenge.

"I know people expect Bayern to win the league every year, but I think teams are improving and it is getting tougher.

"For me, it is about settling in, getting as comfortable as possible and understanding the different teams and how I need to adapt."

Kane, who is Spurs' all-time leading scorer with 280 goals in 435 games, said he will return to the club to say goodbye.

"I didn't get chance to properly," he said. "I sent the players a text to say I was leaving, but I will go and do it properly when I can."

Kane joined the Spurs academy in 2004, signed his first professional contract in 2010 and made his senior debut in 2011.

"It was always going to be a tough decision," Kane said. "Ultimately, I'm a professional, I've always pushed myself to my limits and the time was right."

Manchester City were reportedly interested in signing Kane in 2021 and, with only one year left on his Spurs contract, he was also linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid this summer.

Kane, who described the past 48 hours as a "rollercoaster", said he intends to look for properties in Germany for his family - his wife Kate is pregnant with their fourth child - and learn German.

'I'll have German lessons at least once or twice a week," Kane said. "I want to fit in as much as possible and learning the language is important. I want to try and embrace the culture, embrace the country."

Kane said England manager Gareth Southgate sent him a text message on Saturday congratulating him on the move.

"He will be excited. He knows his striker for England is playing at the highest level and that can only help the national team," said Kane.

A three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, Kane scored 213 goals in 320 games and needed 48 more to break Alan Shearer's league record.

"People will talk about Alan Shearer and the record," Kane said. "I've got plenty of football left in my career. For now it is about reaching new levels with this club right now."

Kane, who has never won a trophy in his professional career, has joined a team who lifted their 33rd Bundesliga title last season - and 11th in a row. They have also won the Champions League six times and 20 German Cups.

"If we get to the end of the season and we haven't won every trophy, the club will be a little disappointed," he said.

This season's Champions League final will be played at Wembley next June.

"I joined this club to have a good chance of winning the Champions League, but for it to be at Wembley is amazing," Kane said.

Bayern's opening league game of the season is at Werder Bremen on Friday at 19:30 BST.

Harry Kane exclusive: Former Tottenham striker says he moved to Bayern Munich to feel the pressure of winning titles

Harry Kane insists he moved to Bayern Munich to experience the pressure of having to win silverware ahead of his side's Bundesliga opener at Werder Bremen, live on Sky Sports on Friday.

The England captain completed his £100m move and made his debut on Saturday, coming off the bench in his side's 3-0 German Super Cup defeat to RB Leipzig.

Kane, speaking exclusively to Sky Sports News, is now preparing for the start of the Bundesliga season with the German champions travelling to the Weser Stadium and the 30-year-old is eager to make a fast start to his career in Germany, with the expectation on Bayern to retain the title high.

When asked if he's ready to hit the ground running against Werder Bremen, live on Sky Sports Football on Friday, he said: "I think so. I had a good pre-season, a lot of training and a lot of games, and now this week, I've naturally gone into the team environment and settled in really well.

"I'm excited to get the season started.

"Any first game of a league season is exciting because you are ready to go and eager to show what you can do.

"It's going to be a tough game like every game will be away from home, but I'm excited to try and show Bayern Munich and show the fans what I've been doing my whole career and win the game."

Thomas Tuchel insists Harry Kane will improve the performances of his Bayern Munich team-mates as the England captain settles into life in Germany.

The 30-year-old striker left Tottenham Hotspur after 19 years to move to the Bundesliga champions for an initial 100m euros (£86.4m) plus add-ons.

He made his debut in the German Super Cup defeat by RB Leipzig last week.

"The Harry Kane effect will not evaporate," said Tuchel.

"[His influence] works on so many levels that you cannot realise because you do not witness it daily."

"[He is important] in the changing room, on the pitch, [because of] his character, his professionalism, how hard he trains, [and] how after the defeat he was first on the pitch for training with the reserves."

Kane is expected to start on Friday as Bayern open the defence of their league title with an away fixture at Werder Bremen, and Tuchel says Kane improves his new side's chances of winning each match this season significantly.

Tuchel added: "He increases our chances of winning tomorrow massively.

"We know we will not win every match, but he will make our players better - I am 100% committed [to that]. Everything I see so far confirms this."

"He gives us a lot of options and will get all the time to fully adapt but I am sure he will have his impact tomorrow."

Kane left Spurs as their all-time top scorer with 280 goals in 435 appearances and won the Premier League Golden Boot three times with with a total of 213 goals from 320 games.

He is also England's all-time leading scorer with 58 international goals and was the top scorer at the 2018 World Cup.

The German side were in need of a new forward following the departure of Poland striker Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona last year.

Kane is yet to win a trophy in his career and despite missing out on his first chance at silverware last Saturday, Tuchel said Kane will not be distracted by his pursuit of honours.

"This is not the first time in his career that he faces [pressure]," said the former Chelsea and Paris St-Germain manager. "He has learned to translate pressure into performances."

"For over a decade he knows how to handle pressure. I have absolutely no concerns about that."

Bayern fans will get to see Kane at the Allianz Arena when their first home league game takes place against FC Augsburg on 27 August.

I stopped watching Bundesliga many years ago, but with Kane’s move I will definately try to watch BM’s matches.

He was going to win nothing at Spurs.

He's done the right thing moving to Bayern where he'll win trophies and win individual honours.

Harry Kane is "not satisfied" with how he is being used at Bayern Munich, says manager Thomas Tuchel.

The England captain, 30, has scored 28 goals in 29 matches since joining the club in an £86.4m move from Tottenham.

But he has not scored or had a shot on target in their last two games - a 3-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen and a 1-0 defeat by Lazio.

"He knows what he's doing and he's not satisfied with the way he's been implemented in games," said Tuchel.

"We're not satisfied with the way things have been going.

"It's unbelievable how well he can score in training and how he pushes on the team - which is absolutely world class - and how little we have found him in games.

"I have seldom experienced such a difference in what a player has been able to bring on the pitch in training and on the pitch in actual games."

Bayern Munich issue Harry Kane injury update ahead of international duty with England

Harry Kane will join up with England this week despite suffering an ankle injury playing for Bayern Munich.

The former Tottenham star hurt the joint when he collided with a goalpost in his new side's 5-2 Bundesliga win over Darmstadt.

The Three Lions captain broke another record in the victory, by delivering the highest scoring debut season in the competition's history.

But his lust for goals has now come at a cost.

While attempt to reach an Alphonso Davies cross, he clattered the upright.

He received medical attention but was substituted for Eric Choupo-Moting with eight minutes to go.

After the match he was asked how the injury was and he replied: "A little bit painful."

England now face key friends with Belgium and Brazil ahead of Euro 2024 where Kane will be looking to win the tournament as skipper.

And Bayern Munich announced that he would still be linking up with his international colleagues, but did need treatment for the issue.

A statement read: "Harry Kane injured his left ankle in FC Bayern's 5-2 win at Darmstadt. The striker has still traveled to international duty with England and will be treated by the team doctors there, in close consultation with the FC Bayern medical department .

"Meanwhile, Raphaël Guerreiro sustained a minor muscle strain in his left upper thigh. The Portuguese will therefore not join up with his national team and instead recover in Munich."

There was some good news for Bayern Munich though as the added: "Aleksandar Pavlovic, who came off with a minor head injury against Darmstadt, has been given the all-clear and is available for Germany's upcoming internationals."

Harry Kane has returned to Bayern Munich and was spotted training alone after his withdrawal from the England camp

The Three Lions captain missed their 1-0 friendly defeat to Brazil on Saturday night due to an ankle injury, but is back kicking footballs in Munich.
Ahead of the game, manager Gareth Southgate confirmed Kane was heading back to Germany for treatment and would therefore also miss the match against Belgium on Tuesday night, which is live on talkSPORT.

But he is clearly desperate to get back to full fitness for the club and country that he took part in a personalized session at the Bundesliga club's training center.

"Harry Kane completed an individual training session at FC Bayern’s training ground on Monday morning," Bayern said in a statement.

"The 30-year-old striker worked with the ball on the pitch at Sabener Strasse alongside fitness coach Holger Broich.

"Kane had suffered an ankle injury in the 5-2 win over Darmstadt in the Bundesliga and returned back to Munich from the England national team camp at the weekend."

Images show the 30-year-old kicking footballs and running on the turf and both England and Bayern fans will now hope there is no long term issues with a title race and the Euros looming.

He picked up his knock by clashing into the post after trying to score a rebound against Darmstadt. Bayern currently trail Bayer Leverkusen by ten points with eight games remaining.

Kane has scored 37 goals in 35 appearances for Bayern this season but they sit ten points adrift of Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

In the Champions League, Bayern also face Arsenal, who Kane loved to score against in the Premier League, for a place in the semi-final where either Man City or Real Madrid await in the last four.

England will be desperate for him to return to fitness and finish the season strongly ahead of Euro 2024 this summer.

While Kane, as England captain, will be on the plane to Germany, the other striker positions are still up for grabs.

Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins will be competing to be provide the top scoring Kane with competition. The latter may play against Belgium, with Villa striker Watkins failing to get on the scoresheet against Brazil.

"He's a confident guy. He comes in on the back of a good run of form with his club. He's going to be on the field on Tuesday - no question.

"That swagger and self-belief is crucial - all of the top forward players have it. I think sometimes the quality of his football can be underestimated - his passing, his link play.

"We're still getting to know all of those strengths because until you work with a player more regularly you don't know them inside out."

Toney has not played for England since making his debut against Ukraine in 2023.

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has been passed fit to face Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga on Saturday, manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed.

Kane, 30, suffered an ankle injury in a 5-2 win against Darmstadt prior to the international break.

He reported for duty with England but sat out the 1-0 loss against Brazil before returning to Germany to recover, missing the 2-2 draw with Belgium.

"It's all fine, he'll play [against Dortmund]," Tuchel said.

Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham in August for an initial 100m euros (£86.4m) and is the leading scorer in the German top flight with 31 goals in 26 games.

England's all-time top scorer hit a hat-trick when Bayern won November's Der Klassiker 4-0 at Dortmund.

Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is not ready to make his return, though, after tearing a thigh muscle during training with Germany last week.

Neuer, 38, is expected back for the trip to Heidenheim on 6 April, which could put him in the frame to start against Arsenal in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at Emirates Stadium on 9 April.

"Manuel Neuer is out. It's nothing to do with risk. The pain is simply too great. We hope a week is enough," Tuchel said.

Bayern are 10 points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen, with Dortmund 10 points further back in fourth.

The label of 'Der Klassiker' is afforded to Bayern-Dortmund matches because of a decades-long rivalry at the top of the German game.

Bundesliga champions Bayern announced in February that boss Tuchel will leave at the end of the season and Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso was heavily linked with the role.

But Alonso effectively ruled out any possibility of taking over at Bayern this summer by announcing at a news conference on Friday that he would not be leaving his current position in the summer.

England striker Harry Kane scored twice in Bayern Munich's win over Eintracht Frankfurt to set a new personal record for his most goals in a season.

The 30-year-old has scored 42 goals in all competitions in his debut campaign for Bayern, beating his previous best haul of 41 for Tottenham in 2017-18.

His first goal saw him tuck home a cross from nine yards, before he converted a penalty in the second half.

The double means Kane has now scored 400 goals for club and country.

He has netted against 16 of the 17 other Bundesliga teams - a joint record in a campaign along with Gerd Müller (1966-67 & 1969-70), Ailton (2003-04) and Robert Lewandowski (2019-20 and 2020-21).

Kane is the first player to score or assist against all 17 sides in a debut season - with Kane assisting against Freiburg in October, but failing to score in either match.

The Three Lions captain, who received treatment on a knee injury in the second half but was able to continue, is six short of Lewandowski's record of 41 goals in a Bundesliga season with three games left.

Speaking about that mark, Kane said: "It's possible, but obviously I have to get a move on.

"I've got to maybe score a few goals next week. It's there, it's in touching distance."

Bayern sit second in Bundesliga, 11 points behind champions Bayer Leverkusen, who host Stuttgart at 17:30 BST on Saturday.

Manager Thomas Tuchel is set to leave Bayern at the end of the season, and said this week he would not be "influenced" by a petition from fans asking him to stay.

Kane gets standing ovation on Tottenham return - friendlies round-up

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane was given a standing ovation at former club Tottenham as the German side beat Spurs 3-2 in a pre-season friendly.

Kane came on as a late substitute on his first trip back to the London club who he left to join Bayern last summer in a deal worth £86.4m plus add-ons.

The England captain was applauded when he came on and also when he went on a solo lap of honour at the end of the game.

Kane said he "probably shouldn't have been playing" as he only returned to training on Friday, having helped England reach the final of Euro 2024, but he "was always going to play 10 minutes and it was good".

He added: "Everything was really rushed through last year, so we didn't have a chance [to say goodbye], but it was great way to say thank you to all of them.

"The reception I got was amazing and great to clap them around the pitch after, those who stayed behind, and I will always be thankful for every Spurs fan for the support they've given me through my whole career. It's been incredible.

"I just appreciate them seeing me and me seeing them again."

Kane and Eric Dier, who left Tottenham to join Bayern in January, were also given gifts by Spurs prior to kick-off for their services to the club.

Tottenham also introduced new signings Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall to their fans before the game started.

When the action got under way, Dejan Kulusevski put Spurs in front only for goals from Dayot Upamecano, Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller to give Bayern a 3-1 lead.

Kulusevski grabbed a second to reduce the deficit but the Bundesliga club, managed by Vincent Kompany, held on.

Following the exit of Solanke, Bournemouth managed a 3-2 win against Girona.

The Cherries went ahead through a Justin Kluivert penalty only for Christian Stuani and Joel Roca to put the Spanish club 2-1 in front.

Luis Sinisterra equalised for Bournemouth before Daniel Jebbison converted a close-range finish for the winner.

Vincent Kompany hopes Harry Kane's ankle injury is not serious after the Bayern Munich striker limped out of the 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen.

England captain Kane was substituted in the 86th minute of the Bundesliga game on Saturday after he was caught by Amine Adli and looked to be in discomfort.

Kompany's Bayern side travel to face Aston Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday.

"I'm not a doctor, but I hope it's nothing serious. It's still early to say. Hopefully he'll be fit for Wednesday," the Bayern manager told Sky Sports.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said: "If Harry goes off the pitch, then it's something. Now I hope he's made of sturdy English wood."

Bayern Munich say the initial diagnosis on Harry Kane's ankle injury is "positive" after he limped out of the 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday

England captain Kane, 31, was substituted in the 86th minute of the Bundesliga match at the Allianz Arena following a challenge by Leverkusen's Amine Adli.

Bayern said Kane "suffered a painful blow to his ankle" but that examinations by the medical department on Sunday "revealed a positive development".

Vincent Kompany's side face Aston Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Kane reportedly said, external on Saturday night that he expects to be fit for the trip to Villa Park.

Leverkusen took the lead in Munich through Robert Andrich, who crisply found the bottom corner after Granit Xhaka played the ball into his path.

Aleksandar Pavlovic fired a sumptuous 25-yard strike into the top corner to level for Bayern, despite goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky getting a hand to it.

Two minutes after the break Serge Gnabry struck a post from Kane's floated cross before hitting the crossbar with the rebound.

Alphonso Davies shot wide from the edge of the box and Konrad Laimer fired just past the post for Bayern.

They remain top of the table, two points ahead of RB Leipzig and three ahead of defending champions Leverkusen.

England captain Harry Kane says the 2026 Fifa World Cup may not be his last international tournament.

The 31-year-old's future remains uncertain, despite extending his all-time scoring record to 69 goals in 103 appearances for his country when he scored the opener in the 5-0 win against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday.

England interim manager Lee Carsley benched Kane for the 3-0 victory in Greece on Thursday, while he was criticised for his performances at Euro 2024.

But when asked if the next World Cup, to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, would be his last shot at glory with England, the Bayern Munich striker told PA: "I don't think so.

"I think there's a perception when you get to your 30s that you're coming to an end, but for me I'm performing at the highest level I've ever performed and feel as good as I've ever felt, so it's about taking in the moment.

"I don't like to look too far ahead and in my career, I never have, the [2026] World Cup is going to be exciting.

"In America it will be an incredible occasion and ultimately it's about trying to win that, looking at where you are, where to improve and it will be no different in a couple of years."

Kane was speaking at the unveiling of a statue and a mural of him at the Peter May Sports Centre in east London, where he began playing as a five-year-old for Ridgeway Rovers.

"It's pretty special to be honest," Kane told BBC Newsround.

"I played on these pitches as a five-year-old with dreams of playing for England, and I've been lucky enough to achieve that.

"Hopefully the boys and girls will walk past and be inspired by the story of my journey, my life and hard work."

When asked what it would take to get a statue of him at Wembley Stadium, he added: "I think we need to win a major tournament."

England will look to do that under Thomas Tuchel, who will begin his 18-month contract as manager on 1 January after Carsley's temporary spell.

Kane played under Tuchel at Bayern last season and is confident the German can end the Three Lions' trophy drought.

"He's a fantastic coach and a really good guy as well," he said. "I'm excited to work with him again.

"I know he'll bring bundles of energy, and come March we'll be focused on America and the World Cup, and that's an exciting prospect to look forward to."

England will find out their World Cup qualifying opponents on 13 December, with the first games scheduled to take place in March.

Harry Kane made history by reaching 50 Bundesliga goals at the fastest pace ever with a hat-trick in Bayern Munich's 3-0 win over Augsburg.

The England captain needed to score three goals to get to the landmark and after scoring a 63rd-minute penalty for the opener, he added two more in injury time.

His second strike also came from the spot after he was fouled by Keven Schlotterbeck, who was sent off for a second yellow card, just before Kane headed in his third just before full-time after a fantastic first touch to control the ball.

With the 50 goals coming in 43 Bundesliga games it meant he surpassed Erling Haaland's mark of 50 in 50 for Borussia Dortmund, before the Norwegian joined Manchester City.

The win moved Bayern eight points clear of Leipzig at the top of the league ahead of the weekend's games and also ensured the German giants remain unbeaten in the league with nine wins and two draws from their 11 games.

"We knew it would be difficult to break them down. We knew we had to be patient," Kane told DAZN.

"At half-time that's what we said, 'we just have to keep doing what we're doing'. Thankfully we got the penalty to open the game up and then did well to kill the game off."

The 31-year-old has 14 goals in 11 league games for Bayern this season, with five of those penalties.

"I work on them a lot," added Kane. "They're a big part of the game. They helped us again today.

"Of course I've missed many at training, but that's the time to miss them."

It has already been a record-breaking season for Kane, who has now scored 20 goals in all competitions this term.

He scored four times in the 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League in September, which made him the top English scorer in Champions League or European Cup history with 33 goals in 45 games, passing Wayne Rooney's old mark of 30.

Kane also became the first English player to score four goals in a Champions League game.
