What a team. Have come a long way in just a little over a year after crashing out to a weak team like Bangladesh at the World Cup.

People thought England in ODIs was buried with a tombstone written in Bengali, yet here we are.

Performed really well vs the 2 World Cup finalists NZ and Aus in the following series (brought their first ever ODI 400+ vs NZ). Ran SAF close in their own backyard. And ofc beat a talented Pakistan (no Imad Wasim may have helped them, who knows) 3-1.

And today had their backs against the wall at 82/6, but tied the game at 280+.

Everyone in the line-up can win the game with the bat as we saw today. Good openers, packed middle order and talented allrounders like Woakes and Willey (yes, this guy has few List-A 100s and scored a 100 off 41 balls in the natwest t20 blast). And they have Stokes in reserve.

All that without playing their 2 best bowlers Broad and Anderson.

Expect them to steamroll over teams next year, unless they choke again like in the world t20.

This might be the first time after a long time they are so lethal in all formats.

Nope. In one of the knockout games they will collapse but that weak bowling wont be able to defend it. Or that weak bowling will concede too many runs and they wont be able to chase it in knockout pressure. Every team has problems but I can see Aussies, us or India winning it :yk2

There batting is deadly but Root and maybe Hales are the only consistent ones. There bowling is a little weak but inclusion of Finn and Broad could make it stronger. One other thing is can they handle the pressure of being favourites? That's the main thing imo, England thrive in being the underdog too much. Need to change that mentality. There the clear favourites for the tournament though

I back them to win either the 2017 Champions Trophy or the 2019 World Cup.

This England team is too explosive to not win at least one of the next two tournaments at home.

England's strength is the depth in the batting lineup. From 1-11, everyone is capable of contributing. Plenty of power hitters and strike rotators. Compare that to our pathetic tail that can hardly hold the bat.

The bowling isn't as bad as people make. Finn and Stokes didn't play today, neither did Broad. Plunkett and Jordan are good death bowlers while Woakes has increased his pace. Willey always seems to get the new ball to swing and provides variety being a left armer.

They have a big chance of winning either the 2017 CT or 2019 WC.

Did you see the Australian attack in that series people keep on harping on about?

Marcus Stoinis and Ashton Agar? For the fifth match we literally selected a bowler solely because he happened to be in the country playing county cricket

It just might be me but I think Starc and Hazlewood offer a bit more

They can win it.They were also the finalists last time around IIRC.And that was with a much weaker team.

england should compete well they almost won in 2013 this time they got a far better chance

They'll have a great chance to win it, but it's too soon to predict them as the winners atm.

Also funny to see how Suleiman keeps making knee-jerk threads time after time, scratch that it's not funny at all but repetitive.

they are likely to do well. but unfortunately India is well ahead of the pack in the limited overs arena. In fact, Australia is a better team than England too, and if ABD performs at the most of his potential, as he usually does, he alone would decimate England.

There are two rungs in the limited overs arena - India, England, South Africa and Australia are in one tier, and then there is the rest of the group that is being led by... Bangladesh.

They'll overwhelm - be labeled as the GOLDEN generation and then as expected underwhelm where it'd really matter.

That's English cricket, or football, or hockey, or rugby, or olympics, or any other sport.

* I know they've won a few of those things but they've lost a lot more. A lot lot lot lot more.

Expect our bowlers to become ATGs in those conditions, like how they won the the last tournament over there.

what poor bowling yaar, they haven't unleashed Broad and Andy yet. Also their X-factor Mills who is a left arm 150+ kph guy.

I don't think Mills can play any form of cricket other than T20s due to his back condition.

Broad isn't really being considered for ODIs after a bad showing in SA.

Oh - England played a ODI. Shows how little attention I pay to LO cricket!

In answer to the OP, I can't ever see England winning a LO tournament as they are too nice, like the Kiwis. Winning is simply not that important to us, and we only fight when backed into a corner.

They nearly won it in 2013 as well, despite being a comparatively weaker ODI unit then.

But 2017 will be a tougher fight with an ever improving Australia being clear frontrunners.

Broady and Jimmy are lulloo bowlers brother. They mostly bowl test match lengths and don't have enough LOI skills. Willey has a good knuckle ball and swings the ball upfront, but rest are cannon fodder:amla

Great prediction kid!

Failed to handle the pressure in the end LOL.

Also Baylis interview sums up there mentality, saying we are going to finish 3rd/4th in this tournament and that's where we are. Pathetic mentality.

England set to win 2017 Champions Tro....
FATAL ERROR: Unhandled operation batting bowling and fielding.
