England tour of India (2021)

The third ODI on March 28, which would mark the conclusion of England’s hectic tour of India, is likely to be shifted from Pune to Mumbai to ensure a safe passage back home for the visiting contingent.

The English national side would have spent almost two months in India by the time of the third ODI. Considering the safety of cricketers, the side is scheduled to depart from Mumbai early on March 29. As a result, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is contemplating on accepting the “soft request,” as confirmed by a BCCI insider, by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA), the host for the ODI series, confirmed the development on Thursday.

“There has also been some discussion that one of the matches (last match on the 28th) may be shifted to Mumbai to facilitate the team’s departure from Mumbai to the U.K., but the final decision in this regard is awaited,” stated a statement issued by MCA.

The MCA has confirmed that every effort is being taken to provide the best facilities in terms of the wicket and spectator arrangements.

The Association also ensured compliance with all government protocols by stating that it will follow, “all final announcements that the State government will issue in this regard in connection to stadium capacity utilisation and other safety and security measures.”

Despite suffering from a financial crunch, the MCA has managed to sell in-stadia rights for a record ₹3.3 crore per match.

India’s squad for T20I series against England announced.

Virat Kohli (Capt), Rohit Sharma (vc), KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Y Chahal, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, W Sundar, R Tewatia, T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep, Shardul Thakur.

Bumrah didn't perform in the last IPL? Or does he want rest before next IPL as well? :inti

Bumrah was excellent in the IPL.

Lol I just realised Bumrah isn't in the squad. Would have been better to rest him for the ODIs if India really wanted to rest him.

Apart from Dhawan and Saini, pretty good squad

Dhawan shouldn't be selected for T20Is. Ever. Don't know when the selectors will learn.

Thakur, Chahar, Saini lol and Bhuvi playing after a long long while... we're fortunate that new Motera has big boundaries. If this was Bangalore or Mumbai, it'd have been a bloodbath with atleast one 250+ total... :))

Should have selected atleast two of Prasidh, Mavi, Avesh and Tyagi....

Rahul (WK)
Rohit
Kohli
SKY
Kishan
Hardik Pandya
Tewatiya
Sundar
Varun C'varthy
Natarajan
Deepak Chahar

This should be the XI for the first game but kaptaan genius will pick Dhawan, Iyer, Thakur and chahal...

Bumrah has played two back to back tough test series. In contrast, England rested Archer from SL tour, Cummins played only home series vs India and everyone is resting.

It makes complete sense to rest Bumrah and let Bhuvi lead the pace attack for T20s as he will be a key part to the WT20 plans. Brilliant decision by team management. They should also rest him from ODIs.

Bumrah and Jadeja are rested, Shami hopefully back for ODIs.

Once again why don't cricketers skip IPL instead of skipping Internationals especially high quality test cricket matches? So far 6 tests have been played, out of which Bumrah has played 4(3 in Aus and 1 against Eng). :inti

Kishan hasn't played even a single match for India. You guys have problems when I criticise Pant based on his stats but you go 100 steps ahead than me and start discarding players who haven't even played any match for India lol.

Anyway KL Rahul should keep wickets in LOI's. He has improved his batting too because of wicketkeeping and thats what I suggested long time ago to save his career. :inti

Bumrah was struggling with fitness since the 3rd test in Australia...hence he didnt play the Brisbane test. I expected him to rest the entire Eng series but he did play the 1st test here and struggled again. So its best for Indian cricket in the long run that he is given appropriate rest with some important series like Eng tour, Asia cup and T20 WC coming. We have enough players to compete with Eng at home in white ball cricket.

If your concern is why he is playing in IPL then, it is still 2 months away isnt it? So what you are alluding to is he should continue to play test cricket even if he is injured and rest in IPL which is couple of months away just bcoz you dont like that tournament..lol. Dont worry, If his fitness remains a concern when IPL comes...he wont play that either. He skipped many matches in last IPL as well.

Your hatred for IPL is taking what aboutery to a new level unfortunately.

It has been told that he will play next two tests and then rest from T20 and maybe ODI series too. So, it will be 6 tests total. One or two tests in between aside, none of the players are resting from test cricket. They are resting for T20s but it makes sense.

England T20 team will not be having the likes of Buttler, Archer or Stokes and maybe missing Wood too. So, it will be an England 'C' side playing T20 matches as their main players will be resting after test series for IPL and other tough schedules. If he plays that T20 series and then miss IPL, he will be bowling to weaker strength England side. Hence, good chance for India to test their bench strength here.

You don't learn, do you? I said the exact same thing before last IPL as well and warned that Ishant and Bumrah shouldn't play in IPL before an important Australia tour. I also said that most of the guys who were going at me will be the first ones to bring that as an excuse. Ishant got injured and you guys were seen missing him badly and silently cursing IPL in the background for that.

Jasprit Bumrah got injured in IPL just before the England tour last time also. Most of the fans like you were seen blaming IPL after we lost the first few tests. Only difference is I am saying it in advance and guys like you only realise it after things like these happens. I am not making these things up. You can actually google and see they did get injured before venting your frustration on me for not liking that useless Pyjama League. :inti

1) Due to covid, all players were rested for 10 months prior to IPL. So its quiet stupid to suggest that Bumrah should have rest in the IPL as well.

2) His fitness in Australia has nothing to do with IPL. He was bowling at top speed and at his best for first two tests where he bowled 73 overs in first two tests. That broke him and not IPL). He was not at his best 3rd test onwards.

3) Whether you like it or not, IPL is a very important event in Indian cricket calender. Most player would prefer to play in there as per their committment to their franchise owners. Indian cricket is ofcourse main priority but that dosent mean a player would rest in bed fearing an injury and wont play IPL.

Actually Thakur and Chahar is good for T20s.. both swing the new balls and Thakur can slog a few (even Chahar can i believe)..

England aren't resting a single player for the T20 series.

Lol Buttler,Archer, and Stokes have been rotated so they can play the T20s against India and the IPL.

Its clear that Indian selectors are still confused about best XI for WT20

Real challenge will be to pick the best XI now.

Rohit to open with Rahul/Dhawan?

SKY, Kishan, Pant and Iyer for that one or maybe two spots in middle order?

I think Pant has already got enough chances in T20's. He has played 27 matches so far and averages just 20. Let other guys get their chances now. We can always come back to Pant later. Would like to see more of Ishan Kishan and SKY now. KL Rahul can keep the wickets when Kishan or Pant aren't playing. :inti

BCCI contemplating moving the ODI series between India and England out of Pune due to COVID19.

so far this series has been a classic pump-and-dump stock market scheme. We let them win the first test and made them believe they're the best team on the planet, only to pull the rug later.

Medical updates:

Jofra Archer is not playing in this Test match due to his ongoing right elbow issue. The ECB medical team will provide an update in due course.

Ben Stokes has had an upset stomach, the same issue that has affected other members the touring party. It is not expected to keep him off the field.

Varun Chakravarthy set to miss England T20Is after failing fitness tests
He again failed in the fitness test, this is second time.

Rahul Chahar likely to be replacement.

Rahul Tewatia also failed fitness test.
Currently training with the national squad in Ahmedabad.

Natarajan may not feature in the T20I series opener against England on March 12 in Ahmedabad.
He is currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for his rehabilitation.

India have been dealt a blow with mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy failing to clear a mandatory Yo-Yo test ahead of the five-match T20I series against England starting this Friday. Chakravarthy is part of the 19-man India squad led by Virat Kohli that will get its preparations underway for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be played later this year.

Questions are now being raised over the BCCI selection panel led by Chetan Sharma for selecting a player who despite not playing a single competitive match since last October was selected for such a high-profile series. This is not the first time that Chakravarthy has failed to clear a fitness test.

“Varun Chakravarthy was selected because he recovered from his shoulder injury that ruled him out of the Australia series. He did his rehab at the NCA and started throwing normally. However, he has failed to clear the Yo-Yo test mark stipulated for a 2km run at least twice,” a senior BCCI source was quoted as saying by news agency PTI on Wednesday.

“We can understand he was doing his rehab during Mushtaq Ali (T20 Championship). But then again, he didn’t play a single Vijay Hazare Trophy game. How do you assess his match fitness based on games that he played five months back? I guess Varun Chakravarthy is a lesson for selectors,” the source added.

Chakravarthy, following his impressive outing for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2020, received a maiden India call-up for the Australia T20Is. However, he returned home due to a shoulder injury and was undergoing his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Spinner Rahul Chahar, who has been part of the bio-bubble since the start of the England Test series, is in all likeliness to be inducted into the India T20I squad now. All five T20Is will be played at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler has picked India as one of the strongest contenders to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup set to be held later this year. Last year, the showpiece T20 event, to be played in Australia, was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

India, who won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, will play host to the marquee event this year in October-November while the next edition will be held in Australia in 2022. And Buttler feels being host of the event makes India the favourites.

“Going into World Cups, you probably look at hosts nations one specially as strong as India who are going to be favourites for that tournament,” Buttler said during an media interaction on Tuesday. “There are many excellent teams, in the last few World Cups hosts nations have performed very well. India is of course strong in every format and T20 is no different and especially playing at home I see India as the favourites.”

England won the T20 World Cup in 2010 and will be starting their preparations for the global event with a five-match T20I series against India from Friday. Buttler feels the matches provide his side a perfect opportunity to get acclimatised to the conditions they will face later this year.

“It’s vital for us to play and hopefully you wanna win that series and take that confidence and gel together as a group and have that clarity ahead of the World Cup. So, it’s a fantastic opportunity for us as a side to be playing against India in World Cup conditions,” he said.

Media reports have emerged that the venues shortlisted by BCCI to for IPL 2021 are also in line to host T20 World Cup matches as well. Motera’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest by capacity, may host the grand final.

“This is a great benefit for us. Being here and to play in Ahmedabad in the brand new stadium which may play a big part in the World Cup and no one has played here before. So it’s a big advantage for us to learn about conditions,” Buttler said.

India's white-ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma wants debutants Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan to not take the pressure and enjoy their cricket with Team India ahead of the T20I series against England. Both Kishan and Suryakumar received their maiden national call-ups for the England T20Is after an impressive IPL 2020 campaign for Mumbai Indians.

Having led both the players in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rohit, who captains Mumbai Indians, has witnessed their rise from close quarters and expects them to grab their opportunities when they come their way in England series. Rohit said he is aware that the duo might be under the pressure of performing since it is their maiden series for Team India.

"I do not want them thinking about anything. Watching them closely for a few years now, I have realised that it's important for them to come here and be part of this setup which the team has and the team has tasted success for all these years. I just want them to be having fun and understanding what this team is all about," Rohit said in a virtual presser on Wednesday, as quoted by ANI.

"Keeping in mind that this is the first time that they have been selected into the squad, they will be nervous, they will be thinking about performances and all that," he added.

While Suryakumar has been knocking on the selectors' door for a while now with his performances in the IPL and the domestic circuit, Kishan recorded a stellar season for Mumbai Indians last year. The left-hander slammed 516 runs in 14 matches in IPL 2020 and struck at an impressive 145.76 including 4 fifties.

If players can travel, they can too: Rohit Sharma bats for neutral umpires

AHMEDABAD: India opener Rohit Sharma doesn't see any reason as to why neutral umpires cannot travel for the matches in the post-coronavirus era along with teams for a bilateral series.

Ever since cricket resumed after the coronavirus-induced lockdown, home umpires have been officiating in all international matches. The International Cricket Council (ICC) had brought in some changes for safe resumption of cricket, and one change was to have home umpires for all games in order to reduce travel.

"Yes (on ICC allowing neutral umpire), that can be an option, if players can travel, the umpires can travel as well. I don't see any reason why umpires cannot travel. You know, make them quarantine as well, make their life difficult as well (laughs)," said Rohit in a virtual press conference.

The opening batsman also praised the quality of umpiring during the recently concluded Test series against England played on challenging wickets.

"Having said that the umpiring in this Test series was brilliant. All three or four umpires who were part of the series did a terrific job, wasn't easy because of the nature of the pitch," said Rohit.

"They have to consider so many things before making a decision, the ball was turning square, it was bouncing as well and sometimes ball was going straight. So I thought considering those factors, I think they did a terrific job," he added.

Last year, India pacer Jasprit Bumrah had said it was "unfortunate" that umpires were not able to travel with the teams.

"It's unfortunate that umpires are not able to travel but then it's something that I don't have the power of changing it. We try to focus on things that we can change and that's the only thing our team is focusing on," Bumrah had said during the Australia Test series.

https://www.outlookindia.com/website/story/sports-news-rohit-sharma-says-we-are-not-seeing-t20i-series-as-dress-rehearsal-for-t20-world-cup/376794

India vice-captain Rohit Sharma on Wednesday said his team is not seeing the upcoming five-match series against England as a dress rehearsal for the World Cup at home later this year and remains focussed on winning it.

India have picked some fresh faces for the series while resting lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah as the team looks to build on its preparations for the showpiece event.

"We don't see it as any rehearsal ... We are not thinking too far ahead and focusing on winning the series," Rohit said ahead of the series opener here on Friday.

"If we focus on the present, the future will take care of itself. It's a long series and it's important to see where we stand as a team and individual."

It will be interesting to see who among KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan opens alongside Rohit, who did not reveal much on the combination for the first game.

"I won't be able to reveal the combination, we will have to wait and see till Friday," he said.

The star Indian opener, however, said his role does not change and he would continue to bat the way he does.

"It's about giving the team a good start if we bat first, nothing changes for me. When we chase, the approach is the same but the mindset changes as you have to calculate a lot many things."

Rohit was seen curbing his natural instincts for a dogged 144-ball 49 on a turning track in the fourth and final Test in Motera.

It was the need of the hour, he said.

"I made just 49 runs but played about 150 balls ... Personally for me, it was a big win for me. They were bowling outside and I was tempted to play my shots but I played against my nature. I curbed my instincts, restrained myself. It was really satisfying for me," Rohit said.

"The challenge for me in Test cricket is the number of balls I face and not how many runs I make. I always think of playing 150-200 or even more balls, runs will come automatically. It's a challenge for me and a small battle that I will win, it will be helpful for the team as well."

His Mumbai Indians teammate Surykumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan earned their maiden India call-up for the series and Rohit, their IPL skipper, said both are bound to be nervous.

"It's natural for them to feel nervous, thinking of performances but it will only put pressure on them. It's about being relax and just have fun being part of this great Indian setup.

"It's not going to be easy and there will be challenges every now and then but it's how you respond to it will be crucial," he said.

Asked whether neutral umpires in a bio-bubble atmosphere can be an option, he said: "Yes that can be an option. If the players can travel, I don't see any reason why umpires can't travel as well. Make them quarantine as well, make their lives difficult as well..."

But Rohit went on to say that the umpires did a commendable job in the four-match Test series.

"It wasn't easy because of the nature of the pitch. The ball was turning square, bouncing as well, considering all these factors, they did a terrific job."

England's limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan has said that his team is expecting turning pitches in the upcoming 5-match T20I series which will kickstart in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Morgan, the captain of the world number one men's T20I side in the world, said that England are looking to gain experience and get better in low scoring encounters ahead of the T20 World Cup in India this year. Morgan recalled the low-scoring matches in T20 World Cup 2016 in India, including the one in which hosts were bundled out for 79 in a match against New Zealand.

"We've been in great form in T20 cricket. We've had some confidence along the way and picked up some serious wins over the last two years, which is great.

"But also we need to develop our game and go into a World Cup with as few weaknesses as possible. I think having the strongest squad available to us, which doesn't really happen that often, allows us to play around with any plans we might foresee using in the World Cup as well.

"I wouldn't say we're hoping for similar pitches to the Test series. I'd say [we're hoping for] turning pitches.

"Going back to the 2016 [T20] World Cup, we didn't necessarily play on big turners. There were some really, really low-scoring games - New Zealand turned over India and India and Afghanistan turned over West Indies on really dry surfaces - so depending on fixtures for the World Cup we want to go through that ourselves," Eoin Morgan said.

Further, the 34-year-old southpaw stated that England bowlers are still learning to bowl on flat surfaces. He acknowledged that learning experience under "extreme conditions" was one of England's agenda in the series.

"We know when we play on a really flat surface, our batting department is equipped, our bowling department is still learning and it's more challenging the better the wicket we play on. But in low-scoring T20 games we do need to get better, so we're looking forward to the challenge.

"Day four or fay five [Test] pitches aren't going to be ideal playing a T20 game on, but a turning pitch like we witnessed in 2016 - where 120 plays 90; very low-scoring games in this day and age - it's an area we need more experience in because we've not played in a lot of games like that.

"Would we welcome the learning experience that extreme conditions could bring? Yes. It's not the sole purpose for being here, but we are going to use it that way.

"I think this tour is going to be a challenge for everybody - batting, bowling and fielding - but one that we're really looking forward to," Morgan concluded.

IND vs ENG: Virat Kohli Reveals Rohit Sharma-KL Rahul is Opening Combination in T20I Cricket; Shikhar Dhawan Comes in as Third Opener

Captain Virat Kohli revealed the opening combination for Team India in the five-match T20I series against England starting on Friday. Kohli said that Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will be the first priority as opening pair for the Men in Blue as Shikhar Dhawan comes in as the third opener.

Rohit has been a regular in the Indian team for the past few years while the emergence of Rahul in the shortest format has made things difficult for Dhawan. Rahul is currently the highest-rated batsman for India in the ICC T20I Rankings – 3rd.

“If Rohit plays, then it’s simple. KL (Rahul) and Rohit have been performing consistently at the top of the order for us and those two will start,” Kohli was unambiguous in his reply that the seasoned Shikhar Dhawan will have to wait.

The Indian captain revealed that Dhawan will get a chance if Rohit decides to take the rest or Rahul suffers an injury.

“In a situation, Rohit takes rest and KL has a niggle or something, Shikhi (Dhawan’s nickname in team) obviously comes in as the third opener but the starting composition, Rohit and Rahul will be the ones who will start.”

The T20I series will be a tune-up for the Indian team for the T20 World Cup, to be held in India later this year. It will decide the combinations for the Men in Blue for the mega ICC tournament.

Kohli also gave his opinion on the repeated fitness test failure of rookie spinner Varun Chakravarthy and said there should not be any compromise in terms of the fitness level in the team.

“Look individuals need to understand the systems that have been created for the Indian cricket team,” Kohli was very clear on where he stood on the issue.

“We should operate at the very high levels of fitness and skills and that’s why this (India team) is top of the ladder when playing cricket, in our country. We would expect players to abide by what’s required to be a part of Team India. There shouldn’t be space for any compromise, in that regard,” Kohli added.

This T20 series will be a cracker. Full strength Eng side who have bullied everyone on their way.

KL Rahul opening actually might be good for him.. pressure on Dhawan as well.

Good decision. It was shocking to see the carelessness without masks. People all over the world think Covid has gone. We aren't accounting for the variants that are going to affect us for years to come.

Final three T20Is in Ahmedabad to be held behind closed doors

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in consultation with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has decided to conduct the final three T20Is against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium behind closed doors. The decision was arrived at following detailed discussions with the state and local health authorities.

The BCCI will continue to comply with all the regulations put in place to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus and will always put the health and safety of its fans and stakeholders at the top.

Those who have purchased tickets for any or all three T20Is will be refunded and the process for the same will be announced in due course.

Good Decision. They should have not allowed for the first and second T20 too.
The cases ae again increasing, heard that there are lockdown in some cities.

Great to see SKY, Gill and Siraj...

Krunal Pandya....

Chahal ....

Thakur .....

Atleast two of Shaw , Padikkal and Kishan should have been there.

There are no places for Kishan, Shaw and Paddikal at the moment...the batting is loaded already.

I think we should start giving respect to Thakur....he is not a strike bowler but gives immense balance to the team. Also he always seems to be in wicket column. His batting is clutch in tight games.

What TM sees in Chahal is beyond me?

So, Indian team management have rested Bumrah, Shami and Jadeja in ODIs for IPL. It seems they also value IPL a lot more than bilateral T20s and ODIs especially meaningless ones :inti

Shami and Jadeja still not fit...

Bumrah unavailable due to his marriage

There are no places because the usual decade old top3 are still leaching on to their places in every random Jamodi...

Do you really think that all of Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli will be at their best in 2023? Dhawan will be officially 38 and his reflexes are already waning. Rohit will be 36 and you're never sure about his fitness. Wouldn't it make sense to rest or atleast rotate rotate them for some guys who'd actually at their peak when it matters?

Rohit and Kohli will play in 2023 WC for sure.

Not sure about Dhawan though...Paddikal is a ready replacement and will be in scheme of thing very soon.

I guess only Dhawan is hogging up a space.
Shaw and Mayank have been tried out in ODIs in not so distant past with not great results.
Kishan, like samson, is more of a T20 specialist at the moment.

Team for 1st ODI vs England

Dhawan
Rohit
Kohli
Iyer
Rahul
Pandya
Washington/Krunal
Kuldeep/Chahal
Bhuvi
Natrajan
Thakur/Siraj

Even with above team we have inform players in SKY, Pant and Gill warming the bench. Where are the space for Shaws and Paddikals.

Really happy for Prasidh. Was one player I was highly excited about making his debut, whether in white ball cricket or test cricket.

Now if only Ishan Porel can follow suit, it would be great. Probably the two best fast bowling prospects for India, particularly in red ball cricket.

There’s a ODI series as well as tests and T20?

This tour is interminable. Bring England home and start preparing for the Kiwi tests.

Surprised to see Dhawan's name up there. Hope he clicks soon otherwise its a spot wasted at the top.
Good to see Sky & Prasidh getting a call up

Will ECB too stop playing ODIs in their home season? If not, why should any other board do that?

England have been fined 20 per cent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate against India in the fourth T20I against India in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Javagal Srinath of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Eoin Morgan's side was ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Morgan pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires KN Ananthapadmanabhan, Nitin Menon, and third umpire Virendar Sharma leveled the charges.

The ODIs are in Pune? Surely not?

Would recommend them to be shifted to somewhere safer.

England Men have named their 14-player squad for the three-match One-Day International series against India in Pune starting on Tuesday.

Three additional players – Jake Ball, Chris Jordan and Dawid Malan – will travel with the squad as cover. All these players have been in India for the Twenty20 International series that concluded in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

Jofra Archer is returning to the UK for further management and investigation of his right elbow injury.

Jofra’s elbow issue has deteriorated over the course of the Twenty20 International series and made it increasingly challenging for him to maintain performance levels. He has been deemed unfit for selection for the ODI series that features matches on 23, 26 and 28 March.

The ECB medical team will assess the player and, together with Jofra, develop a treatment plan and a return-to-play schedule in due course. As a consequence, Jofra will miss the start of this year’s Indian Premier League.

England Men’s ODI Squad:
Eoin Morgan (Middlesex) (captain), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire), Sam Billings (Kent), Jos Buttler (Lancashire), Sam Curran (Surrey), Tom Curran (Surrey), Liam Livingstone (Lancashire), Matt Parkinson (Lancashire), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Jason Roy (Surrey), Ben Stokes (Durham), Reece Topley (Surrey), Mark Wood (Durham).

Also travelling with the squad: Jake Ball (Nottinghamshire), Chris Jordan (Sussex), Dawid Malan (Yorkshire).

Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of remaining of the ODI series against England.

Time to play the third card of "the next big thing" trio :inti

It will really be a pleasure watching the trio of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya play together in the Indian middle order :inti

What about the IPL? Wonder who DC will replace him with if he can't play in the IPL.

UPDATE ON SHREYAS: Shreyas Iyer has suffered a labrum tear on his left shoulder and will undergo an operation in a day or two, which could see him miss the entire IPL and sideline him for 3-4 months.

Not sure if Smith is a certainty to start as Stonis,Rabada, and Norje will definitely start. DC could go with Hetmyer ahead of Smith .

In that case, Rahane will play at 3 and as specialist captain :yk
