Well with a half decent keeper we could have overcome losing the toss, 4/50 with englands best bat gone for a duck we may have just run through them.

Vital 1st session on day 3, Aussies need to get as close a possible to england total here.. the tail is usually pretty strong so they would be expected to put up a fight. Interesting to see Aussies approach with the bat today.

Aggressive and attacking batting might still work on these flat English pitches if they bat first IMO. Which is why the toss is absolutely crucial. England batting first and putting on 430 has pretty much eliminated an OZ win unless someone does a :yk
Yeah i agree with that. If the Aussies bat first on these flat tracks they can rack up some big runs. But batting last on a slow track having to save the game or.play out for a draw is something i dont think this Aussie team is capable of. For them attack is the best form of defence

Chris Rogers says batting last is going to be hard.

I like Rogers. Obviously there is the Middlesex connection, but he seems quite a humble bloke who gets on with it quietly instead of being a yobbo like his opening partner. He has taken his chance late in his career.

A wicket before the new ball would put England completely in the drivers seat. It'd be their game to lose from there.

Watson gone LBW as per usual, Aussies is massive hole now still 160+ behind and could be about to give a big lead away

Haddin new man in on -134.

Needs to atone for his costly drop earlier in game.

Haddin has hardly scored a run away from home in last couple of years. Not looking very comfortable here either

Huge wicket. In the last Ashes, England had Australia on the ropes five times out of five in the first innings of each test, and five times out of five Haddin got fifty-plus and Australia recovered to win.

The Aussies will need Rogers and Smith to show all their grit and determination in the 4th innings. Not sure if Clarke's physical condition will allow him to play those long innings anymore plus he has never really prospered on these type of tracks.

The last ashes was just a freak event for haddin.

He really has been poor with the bat in most test series going on 3 years now.

Safe to say with a 100+ lead, Eng should win this. Don't see them collapsing for a low score

Australias over aggresive and wreckless batting has put them in trouble here, its almost been like watching how they played in UAE, On slow wickets like this some times attritonal cricket is best which is something aussies dont do,

Loved the healy commentary on the Johnson wicket, apparently was the right shot and he played it well but the fielder was just where he shouldn't have been.

He really does give halfwits a bad name.

:)) Love Zaltzman. Well this has been a sorry display by the Aussies, on pitches like these they just don't know how to defend. They thought they could hit Moeen Ali out of the attack like they thought they could hit Pakistan's spinners out of the attack last autumn and the strategy has failed again.

Too many batsmen making starts but not going on. England in a very strong position.

Massive lead this for england with still plenty of time to force a win in this game as well.

If i was england id be asking for these types of wickets to be produced for last 4 tests as well.

England have knocked a tail over??????? :O

That's the first time in a while.

Aussies can chase down any total, 4th innings total are quite achievable :yk

Poor batting effort from our batsmen, now we are a bowler short and looking down the barrel. How long til rain?

Yeah exactly because on a turning track even Bhai might destroy them.

Moeen on a track that assists him is actually pretty decent as we saw against India last summer. And will be a handful for the Aussies who are inept at playing spin.

On these sorts of tracks we have to make our runs first dig to stay in the match, so many of the batsmen just threw it away when in and watto and haddin well they are just done at this level.

For all the talk of aggression from boof and marsh they are actually pretty timid selectors, neville and marsh seemed the aggressive move to many but they stuck with two pretty ordinary out of form players simply because they are seniors.

Sunday morning.

Don't worry, Chef will bottle it on the declaration and you won't have to bat for long to secure the draw. Might actually help England if Sloop turns back into The New Davidson and knocks them over for 250.

Starc even on one ankle has got a wicket. Cook gone to a loose shot.

One-leg Starc has got Cheffy! Big wicket, he could survive a long time on a deteriorating surface.

poor score for cook this test match, leaves it to Root and company to put up a competitive score.

Cook and Ballance gone 22/2

Another couple of quick wickets and Aussies are back in the game.

Good start from Australia but still need a few more. Only way back for them is to get England out for below 200.

Bell is so good to watch, but he has probably piled up more soft runs than anyone else in the modern game, with exception of the 2013 Ashes.

Good counter attack here by england, Aussies leaking runs badly and could be very quickly out of this match soon...

Clarke goes to Lyon do the england batsmen carry on the aggresion here?

If watson is actually an allrounder you would think this is his time, game is rapidly moving out of reach this is where your allrounder drags you back into it.

Yeah but if he bowls, he might lose his six-pack abs.

That was a good spell from Johnson. As the senior quick he needs to be the responsible and disciplined one now and that's as far as his ability goes without the extra pace. He can't be the main strike bowler, that's Starc. He will still be a handful in a more defensive role, as he showed.

Bell back in form, Rooooooooooot playing second fiddle to him. The Aussies are in big trouble here. They need two wickets, now.

Aus have not learned a thing. Easy runs was on offer instead of playing calculating cricket. playing ugly shots.. Only rain can save Aus. .

Starc seems to be injured.

Aus seems to have given up hope with the ball. They have to hope for a miracle when they bat in 2nd innings.

the aussies are overated outside theyre home country..the thrashing we gave them should have given england plenty of pointers!!

From the fearsome bowling attack to toothless bowling attack, what a joke this bowling line up is without harris, even pak would have done better with our third grade pacers which we have now. Wao aussies wao, what an overhyped bowling.

totally overrated..no reverse swing, no spin, no great seam..what was all this hype the media was doing? did they not watch Misbah smashing this lot around last year??

In Aussie conditions with a good Siddle, Harris and an in form Johnson is a bit different to playing in England.

harris was the bowler who could put pitch out question but the rest of these bowlers are only good under specific conditions, in other words bouncy track bullies.

in other words home conditions...cant see them wining the ashes if they dont get pitches that favour them..Mcgrath would have a got some wickets on here..

The last think Oz would have wanted is bell getting into form, this could be really long summer for this overhyped Oz bowling.

Lol. Where the sudden form from bell?

As the saying goes, class is permanent.

haha, as I say that he gets cleaned up by Johnson. Good ball, shaped in but then seamed away. Glad to see Bell back in the runs though, he's fantastic to watch when he's in form.

lol my constant criticism of their attack and suddenly mitch bowls a good ball..lol

This wicket may actually hurt Oz, because the next man is stoke and if he clicks Oz will be in a lot earlier with the bat in 2nd than what they would have liked.

Australia haven't bowled all that badly. They've been indisciplined. But they have created an awful lot of near misses and chances. The batting was worse and is responsible for the current situation.
