Let's go India!

The pace bowling legend arrives.

Hope he avenges the humiliation heaped upon us by the Pommies during his absence.

So excited.

Imagine this bowling lineup:

Bhuvi
Ishant
Umesh
Aaron
Ashwin

I know Umesh ain't there in squad but just saying.

1 swing it both ways bowler.
1 hit the deck bowler.
1 out and out pacer with a good outswing.
1 out and out pacer who swings the ball occasionally.
1 proper spinner.

We don't have a left arm seamer :(

Weapons only as good as the man using the weapons and unfortunately you can give Dhoni Brahmastra and he will still find a way to lose!

Now that post SIF is more down your alley

Your post exuded too much optimism for my liking :P

Side effects of 15th Aug?

This attack has a lot of potential, and the statement has nothing to do with "Indian standards". :nehra

Haha....

No. Just some wild hope.

Dhoniastra - When you fire it, the opponent doesn't get vanquished. You get vanquished instead. Everyone in your army dies except for a guy named Dhoni who later goes to the press conference and explains about how the "process" of firing Dhoniastra is more important than the results it produced.

Sorry forgot to mention this.

How about we call up Unadkat? How's that?

Indian team should rather call you or me up instead of that useless hack.
Just lamenting the lack of a quality left-armer after zaheer's departure.
He was very good against lefties and england have plenty of left handed batsmen.

Here is Sarf Laaaardon there is total overcast but the sky is brightening up too, so play may start on time.

The air is damp but it's a bit chilly, which may limit orthodox swing bowling opportunities.

I think if its overcast and India are batting first, its all over for India.

Anderson will be all over us.

lol who would have thought I'd be excited to see India play :91:

It's chucked with rain for the last few days so a green track is to be expected, just as some of the earlier wickets were flatties due to the strong sun.

Chucked only last 2 days- before that it was rather warm Robert- some of us live in London as well :P

Plus Oval has always been brown and spinning!

Stuart Binny is in for Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma is also back, in place of Pankaj Singh

I wish India had won the toss and bowled first, today is the only day we could have got in a decent contribution by bunny with the ball.

Lord Binny is back and CJ mate you might as well find another team to support.....

you lose the battle to fight even before battle has commenced....

I'm really starting to think that you have memory problems matey! I went out on my push bike twice last weekend and it chucked down both times and I got drenched. Then there were some hard showers and thunderstorms in the week.

The Oval has not always been a big spin track. It was in the fifties when Surrey had Laker and Lock, but was a road in the seventies, then hard and bouncy during the eighties. Vaughan says it is green today on the BBC site.

Brightening up! I can see patches of blue overhead. Chef may regret putting India in.....

:)))

And this is why I wanted both Gambhir and Dhawan to NOT play and Binny to come instead of them.

Walking wickets.

BOOM!

Jimmy needs seven, no... six more wickets to pass Sir Ian Botham as leading England test wicket taker.

:))) ----> not happy.....and yeah i had hopes from gambhir he disappointed...but he was never gonna be dropped after one match

You don't know the meaning of sarcastic laugh?

Whether Gambhir was going to be dropped was NEVER our discussion. It was about whether he SHOULD be dropped.

1936 - The last time India played a Test starting on 15th August - though that was before independence, also at The Oval

Rob i dont have memory problems- last weekend IIRC were spot showers and not really persistent rain as we had feared with Bertha- not being choosy with memory- but it has been one of the hottest with odd rain showers and Bertha came in only last week- unless you saying the pitch was prepared only over last 5 days and left to its devices over the summer??

Plus then if you saying its a green wicket becuase of rain- why was Lords a greener then- no rain then????

Dont add up either ways my friend?

I also meant should not be dropped cause every player deserves more than one chance...but failing again he has messed up that chance

Straight-Drive we been losing ever since you came onboard- disappear for a while will ya and we might have a chance at resurrecting this tour??

too small sample size man...just 2 matches...need more matches before we make that judgement :D

It's actually been raining frequently for the last 7-10 days, sometimes it's been really heavy.

And L_L then you saying that pitch was prepared only over last 7 days and before that it was left to its devices right and actually no thought has been put into what type of wickets to prepare? Right ECB got no hand in preparing pitches for home advantage??

Then explain how come last year was dry wickets- even the CT final wicket- it was raining all that week and that wicket resembled a sub continent one then an English wicket?

Yes, you raised that point and I said this:

That I would agree in normal circumstances but here the problem is:

1. We are in dire straits.
2. Gambhir did himself no favors by looking horrible (flopping was ok but he looked like getting out anytime)
3. He even struggled in the nets before the 4th Test

I don't know what the Indian management would do but I would prefer a middle order batsman compared to Gambhir now.

The pitch is normally being prepared from a while out, but the problem is the groundsman hasn't had enough time to work on it as he would have liked.

As for the CT query, that pitch was drier and more used as it had been being used throughout the tournament. It was essentially a used pitch, hence why it was dry.
