England v Pakistan 1st T20I match abandoned without a ball being bowled as intermittent rain spoils the party

Yes, we're going to manage a draw today. All clouds have a silver lining and all that.

Cricket is such an antique sport.

I know its impossible to build roodftops.

But its high time they should be able to reschedule matches for days when weather is clear well in advance.

Its a farce to wait 1 week for a game and to have it rained off with sunny days on either side of the event and not being able to use because it would be "logistically impossible".

The weather forecast was showing heavy rains for a few days so clearly the game could've been rescheduled to a different date or brought forward by a day or two when it was clear.

Buttler Bairstow vs Rolf Haris & Hassan Ali.. forget rain please snow.

Can picture it as usual fatty azam ifty agha flopping as usual the nation begging Rizwan please make a game of it !!
Nation is begging him to get lost! He is the fraud reason why fakhar is at 4!!!

At the very least they should have covered the whole ground.

It will take far too long to mop this up even if it stops

Farce.

Match abandoned 1 hour before it was due to start.

Can't cover the ground, no world class drainage like Sub Air system in a place with the worst cricket weather among Test nations.

Covering the ground is a bare minimum.

Should be banned from hosting international cricket until each ground has a full size cover!

Really need to start thinking about investing in indoor stadiums

Leave test cricket alone but I don't see why white ball cricket can't be played indoors because pitch is less of a factor and most limited overs games are played om flat belters anyway .

That's why they didn't covered the ground completely. They knew. It's good that they announced it early I think. Now everyone can think and rearrange their plans.

The second match will probably be a washout too. Weather is the biggest problem in Cricket.

What a pathetic venue England is for cricket. Rain is always there to spoil the day. No sure why PCB would arrange the series there, could have been arranged in USA.

Hopes are not that high for other games as well.

England's captain, Jos Buttler, speaking during England vs Pakistan 1st T20I post-match interview:

"We've had a really good couple of days' prep and everyone was really excited for the series,"

"I think just putting the England kit back on and playing cricket in England is amazing. So it's really disappointing today, not to be playing, but three matches still to look forward to,"

"I think that's why we felt it was good to try and get the players all together for this series,"

"My personal opinion is there should never be any international cricket that clashes with the IPL. But my first priority at the moment is being England captain and trying to prepare as best we can for a world tournament. I've always said to Keysy [Director of cricket, Rob Key] I would definitely be coming back as England captain. He's made the call on the rest of the players."

Hope next game also Rain off. butler leave my Favourite RR at the most important time of playoff. Either Play full or just say im not available.

It was sunny and bright on Tuesday and that was known well in advance

Like you said, such an antique and outdated mindset.

Covering the full ground in England would be counter-effective hence why it's explicitly banned.

What would the effects of it be?

The covers would draw the moisture in the ground to the surface meaning you'd be left with a soaking wet pitching under the covers as well as a load of surface water that still needs to be cleared away on top of the covers. It also provides perfect conditions for grass-based diseases to potentially develop.
