England v Sri Lanka | 1st Test | Galle | Mar 26-30, 2012

Ranadiv has reached his highest score in Test Cricket 12 not out ..... though he is a much better player than that.

Epic run out from Strauss! Rolling back the years

England have fielded brilliantly yet again

Looks like international batsmen are playing Swann more comfortable than a couple of years ago. He does not have the same threatening aura.

Swann has been rubbish again. I said he should have been dropped for this match to sort his head out and I stick by it. Anderson, Broad, Finn, Panesar and Patel/Bresnan would have been perfect.

Mahela has got Sri lanka out of a big hole here! SL batting is pretty lame and brittle and england have some what let them of the hook, england should be looking to get SL out for 250 now!

That's what happens when you are more interested in giving interviews than focussing on your game.

If SL can somehow get to 300, game on.

Chasing on this wicket in 4th innings won't be easy as the ball is already turning alot.

Mahela is hungry like the wolf and its open season. an innings very similar to hussey's 95 vs lanka on same ground.

Oh, better. This is one of the best innings that has been played against us in quite a while, I can tell you that for sure.

swann is going through a fallow period. its come full circle. panesar got kicked out due to swann's rise and the reverse could be possible(Though its too soon to say)

Monty would have taken a wicket if he'd been given Swann's overs. Right now Monty is more mentally focused, bowling the better line and the opposition are showing him more respect. Swann is still a class act in LOIs but he is under serious pressure in the whites. In my view his batting, catching and charisma - which admittedly are worth a fair bit - are keeping him in the test lineup.

Swann's superior flight and sharper turn gives him the edge over Monty in English conditions, but Monty is very accurate and demonstrates good control over his bounce. He looks the best bet in Asia.

To me it said a huge amount that the Sri Lankan batsmen respected Monty with five maidens, but Swann was immediately targeted by Mahela with a six. The world knows that Swann is feeling shaky at the moment.

A good batsmen, but by no means world class.

Are you out of your mind!!!?

The guy has made 30 Test centuries and averages 50+ and if that doesn't make him world class then I have clearly not understood the meaning of this term.

And don't come up with the FTB stuff, minnow basher what ever.

Had any pakistani made 30 tons and all of them only in Pakistan the majority of PPers would have called him one of the best player ever.

In fairness to the bowlers though, this is essentially a flat pitch. We benefited from accurate opening bowling, the shiny ball being one of the few things that can bring clusters of wickets in Asia. There have otherwise been a couple of bad shots and run outs. England will still fancy making runs on here.

I do not think That any Pakistan Batsman looks likely to make 30 Test hundreds in the next 25 years.

Herath is doing a good job. not hitting one of those ridiculous cross batted heaves and other pathetic strokes.

mahela meanwhile continues to show he is back in form.

Costly drop from Panesar gives Mahela 150. Apart from that he's not given many chances. Excellent innings.

Im the only one who think 300 will be to much for England? Unless ofcourse they have learned to play spin better.

Russel : Looks like he knows what he's doing, Jaywardene...keeps hitting it to Monty. :))

Monty

Just when you think he is making a compelling case as the number one...

I agree with this assesment of Swann. He has never looked as dangerous in Asia as he has at home.

Bowlers with slightly faster, flatter trajectories seem to do better in Asia (Ashwin, Monty, Ajmal) but flight bowlers like Swann do better in England & Oz.

Herath will eat KP and Bell alive. Strauss isn't much of a threat ,Trott and cook will be hard nuts to crack.

Englands #1 ranking is in some sort of trouble :D

Can't believe that even after the events of 2012 thus far, the Ajmal factor would be underestimated.

Just goes to show, no matter how well you bowl then a few dropped catches can spoil everything. Sri Lanka would probably say themselves that they should have been out for 220ish. They must be buzzed with close to 300.

#1 ranking or not. atleast they dont have 8-0 to fall back on..yet.

its new tv show in india "overseas eight-0" :P
