I'm sure the last time West Indies came to England, England just couldn't get Chanderpaul out, his wicket is still intact, and I hope the same happens this time, Chanderpaul is just too good.

Real feel sorry for chanderpaul! his shoulders must be very tired from carrying 10 very mediocre players all the time.

England bowlers must be lining up to get cheap wicket hauls in this series.

Chanderpaul never farms the strike and always takes the single .I have never understood this as he gets chance almost every match .Amazing batsman

WI did better than I hoped sadly

Same story from the aus series, shiv standing tall amongst a team of marshmallows.

Good bowling by the England openers. Probably let WI get a few too many though. Bowled a bit short.

A double-edged effort today.

On one hand, there were some loose shots and farcical situations (i.e. DM Bravo runout), and this looks like a decent pitch, and given England's batting depth, anything much below 350 looks pretty poor TBH.

However, after being inserted by England to face their seam attack in their own conditions, not being skittled for <<200 on the first day is something of an achievement. Good batting by Chanders as usual.

England definitely on top but it's not all been one way traffic. Reasonable showing by WI so far.

I'm not really impressed by WI.

Chanderpaul performed as always. But WI need to stop relying on one man so much. It just won't win matches. The team has to perform. What's more annoying so many of the other west indies batsmen got starts. And many threw them away.

Barath was looking great before he threw it away. Really disappointing. Samuels again, threw it away. Bravo got out with some silly running between the wickets. All the guys who should have supported Chanderpaul and got set on the crease got out before they could really make a big score. Which is poor.

I appreciate the fact it ain't easy first innings, first test on unusual conditions for the Windies. But to make 240 or so when Chanderpaul is hitting a century on one end, and three other batsmen getting starts (all gifting their wickets), 240 or so seems like a rubbish total. Would have expected a lot more. I was surprised just how well some of the batsmen were coping with the conditions (especially barath), but what's the point if you throw your wicket away anyway.

impressive performance from west indies. i thought they would not be able to play out the entire day.

Whatta player chanders. He is truly No:1 at the moment and the price he puts on his wicket is phenomenal.

Decentish scorecard for England. Solid. Didn't see it but will catch the highlights later.

Need to bat well tomorrow because Windies have good bowlers. 150 would be a good lead.

Windies 243

Eng 45/0

'KP looks like he should be in one of them boy bands, you know, are they called BLT?'

:bumble

Trott in.

Hope he goes nice and early otherwise i will have to change channel.

Actually one of the less boring Trott innings in a while, so far (famous last words?)

Narine should have been bowling here, you need a mystery bowler against these good batsmen.

It's looking like a good decision to bowl first. Day one had the movement in the air and off the pitch, the pitch has flattened out now.

England can get as many as they want. They need to apply themselves.

Neither of them are biased old farts, they just murder everyone and even when they have positive things to say sound reluctant, I don't see much difference. Love 'Lord Sugar' pundits like that

Holding is very balanced with his opinions however Bob is not, Boycott is excellent and is very similar to Holding in that respect however he tends to grill England big time LOL

Boycott>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Willis

Did anyone see Bumble's face when he was looking into the camera after Holdng's rant about the West Indies cricket board? The man is an absolute legend :bumble

Lol.

You can't beat Bob though.

'I'm pleased for Samit Patel being selected, he seems to have got off his poppadom and chippati diet now after all' :)))

Prince Philip-style un-PC comments :rondu

That was hilarious but Holding was absolutely seething LOL Bumble is absolutely brilliant and has a brilliant sense of humor.

Was looking forward to a Cook session when I woke up. Sadly not meant to be. I'll gladly hope for a Strauss return to form century though if it happens. I like the majority of this team and don't want the top order changed just yet. Scoring big here would be a nice dtatement. Windows have pretty decent bowling.

Trott's been looking at the floor for about 5 minutes now LOL

:shame

I've always wanted to see firefly. I caught maybe five minutes of the first episode and then got distracted by someone.

It's quite good. Had a lot of potential IMO. Serenity is good too.

Bit annoyed that Bumble and Nass are acting confused.

It's obvious LOL, it was obvious live on TV

Shocked by lack of Windies appeal

I hate following along on commentary. 30 mins before I can watch it. Watching Strauss when he isn't scratching around is fun. He has some lovely shots.

Home track bullies are having fun again. Yet another boring test match for neutral fans:P

So here we have the Strauss 70 that he gets once a series, which will keep the critics quiet until Steyn and Philander rip him out four times in a row.

Simply cannot wait for that series.

KP, Bell, Bairstow, Prior.

Very exciting middle order.

As much as I think Strauss is a good bloke and Cook and Trott are world-class players, our top order is not exactly rollicking theatre.

Yeah it should be a cracking series. On a side note, I do love watching test cricket in England, imo it's the best venue in the world for it.

Half century up.

The West Indies captain doing his best to prolong the England captain's career.

Club bowling from Sammeh.

Let's see optimism! With no nasty spinners to contend with, Johann could have a vintage summer.

WI are the #1 team in the world at bumbling DRS.

Will WI drop Sammy if he averages 40+ with the ball and 18 with the bat again ?

Strauss in form is rather good to watch. Cook is okay when he hits higher scores and is a bit less defensive. KP is always a blast, and Bell (though I question his temperament) has good shots. Prior is attacking.

Still, I get your point. It's not exactly the greatest to watch is it.

Which is why I love bowling, specifically pace bowling :D!

Doubt it Rob. I can feel a couple of horror sweeps against (the average) Tahir coming along.

Lara looks well dapper.

Perhaps, but at least Tahir will come out 15-20 overs in, and on say.. the 4th like Hafeez was, or early on as Rehman and Ajmal were.

I am not too impressed by the Windies bowling today. Lots of gifts, lots of innocuous bowling.

Camera pans to an old-ish couple sharing earphones while watching the match. That's love right there! On the other hand, my girlfriend doesn't understand cricket. Time to tell her the bad news perhaps.

Or not, she's got redeeming qualities.

Imran Tahir is very overrated and I can't see England having too much trouble with him.

It is overcast too, there is hardly any movement by the bowlers.

None of them seem particularly capable of producing a good spell of controlled swing, which you need to succeed in England. The Duke ball is also tailor made to support swing, so this is pretty annoying.

Cook will be kicking himself. Could have hit his 20th century against this attack if he didn't have a stroke during that shot.

Four more.

ENG 159-1

All too comfortable for England right now, West Indian bowlers not posing a lot of problems.

Hmm, maybe it was never spin at all, but the unsettling chatter of Adnan Akmal behind the stumps and the few others. They had shrill voices that would certainly have gotten me out of my zone, in comparison to this lot.

Nah, it was spin.

50 up for Trott.

It's hard to watch his batting, when he looks like he doesn't enjoy batting either.

He does enjoy it though. That's the scary thing.

He looks like a medieval jailer that was born in the wrong century.

He doesn't look like he enjoys it though. It's an almost irritated seriousness when he's on strike. When he's on the other end, he's pretty happy looking, but the expression while he's scratching his guard is rather irritating.

West Indies are so far then looking pretty turd.

England can score a lot of runs before tomorrow night if they want.

He has OCD. Got a major attack of it when he returned to South Africa, which is why he played like a tailender. Bit embarrassing so it was kept in house.

I'd hope we start bowling after Tea tomorrow for maybe an hour, barring any sort of collapses or the like. Supposed to be rainy the past two days, though it currently looks very scattered and light, but it's May... A good 200-250 lead would be enough to start bowling perhaps.

That bit's fairly well known that he has OCD. Didn't know about the South Africa thing. The ground scratching ritual is fairly proof enough, I have a few things I do when I bowl or play tennis, etc. that I need to do or I just don't feel right. He just seems to be far more into it than others are. Maybe that's why he's not fun to watch, and why he seems to happy on the other end.

Compare that to Cook's tongue hanging out while he concentrates. It's kind of funny, and less unpleasant to watch than Trott's frowning seriousness.

This is getting dull - hardly any swing or pace from the WIndies. *yawn*

King Viv and Silent Death are at the ground though, as commentators. Give them Edwards' and Sammy's jumpers in the 2nd innings and - trash England old school.

Poor captaincy. First over after tea to Samuels? Have the Windies given up already?

Agnew has been discussing pie tasting and how a heroin addict listening to TMS managed to recover.

ENG 175-1

England in no rush here, taking their time grinding the opposition down. Windies looks clueless out there, waiting for a mistake.

I want a wicket to fall so KP comes in and ups the tempo.
