About 34 overs in I felt a big defeat coming and I stick by that.

Morgan's decision to bowl first was unbelievable.
 
rr is now close to 7 . get kp before 50 is up & match would be over .
 
KP loves opening. Bell is more effective as an opener. Cooky is also good at it but his test match batting has suffered. It would be interesting on what England settle on before the WC.
 
Why don't England give Hales a chance in ODIs? He is doing well in T20s consistently.

No.6 spot in Tests is wide open. Probably the most important thing about this series from an England POV.

He needs to become more consistent and string togeather a run of scores in FC/List A. England do not select players for the ODI team based on their T20 performances.

Who'd you reckon James, Morgan/Bopara down under, i.e if both shine in this series?
 
We blatantly aren't going to win this but a KP innings would be fair consolation.

Fair enough, but he looks a natural limited overs cricketer to me alongside Morgan and Bopara.

Morgan. It's time.

He probably would have been in there for 2010 when he was similarly in-fashion - but they wanted to give Collingwood a fitting send-off for his years of service and also for his manly performances in the face of the drubbing down under 4 years previously.

How would a SA playing well be a consolation for England?

Wouldn't it just prove the English are hopeless?

England struggle to field a team comprising of 11 Englishmen that is up to international level.

I'd love to see you try name a decent English XI

I see no reason why England can't win. KP is looking in great touch and Morgan is still there. An in form Bopara, hard hitting Buttler and Stokes to come.
 
Well England are certainly in it if Pietersen gets a hundred with Morgan and Bopara playing a good support role.

Morgan should be Ok in Australia. It is high quality spin and swing that rattles him. The best we could hope for is for him to get get some runs in Aus, settle in test cricket and use that as a base to launch his career. He had nothing to fall back upon during that shocker of a series in Dubai.

Pietersen is an English citizen and that makes him as much English as anyone.

if you are going to fall back into ancestry to prove your point, well in that case, half of the South African team is Dutch.

This is international cricket not club football where you can poach players willy nilly.

Our imports have only attracted negative attention in the last couple of years. People of course always search for ways to discredit successful entities. The truth is that importing of players has always gone on in international cricket, particularly with regards to England which was the foremost colonial power in the past and so has a correspondent legacy.

It doesn't matter which system he came through. The fact is that he is an English citizen and he's legally qualified to represent England.

In that case an Indian who has citizenship in Pakistan should be able to represent Pakistan?

England do not poach players willy nilly - only those with an English parent or a British passport, of which there are a great many.

Why not? he has CITIZENSHIP of Pakistan! That means he is legally allowed to represent Pakistan.

Fair enough if KP moved to England as a kid but he left SA for his career as an adult.

This sounds like a bigger issue where you don't accept the current definition of citizenship, so I don't see what a debate will do to change that.

I would consider myself a Pakistani, but if I'm a cricketer and England pick me up, I would br obliged to play for them because they have given me citizenship, the license.

If I am true patriot, I would not accept the offer so in this case, blame Pietersen for not showing loyalty to SA. Don't blame England.
 
As the world becomes more globalised this notion of acquiring dual or alternative citizenship will occur more and more often. It will just take some people more time to get used to the practice than others.

He shouldn't have been put in that position in the first place!

Rugby league has had the same issues with the Aussies poaching Kiwis to play in State of Origin the officials had to step in and change the eligibility rules to save the game some face.

It's about time the ICC did the same.

England don't make the rules. Blame the law makers.
 
A lot of people in Ireland hold both an Irish and a British passport or are entitled to by birth. And vice-versa: many English and Scottish people have living Irish family members. The England/Ireland thing is largely a non-issue IMO.

The SA thing is more debatable.

You can't be picking and choosing from 3 countries!

England, Ireland and Scotland are THREE separate entities and have THREE separate teams.

Pride for representing their country is something those players will never feel again, it also cheapens the value of the English jersey if you ask me.
