They rate Davies. If Prior continues to flop then Davies will be back in the summer. For some reason, Prior just doesn't seem to be able to 'do' ODIs, even though given everything in his game, he really should be able to average 35-40 just fine.

Prior's average in List A is 27.46. Don't think he can even reach 30, he is good test batsman though.

I think Flower got a bit carried away with Prior's (brilliant) all-round performances in the Ashes. ODIs are a completely different animal.

328 to win. good stuff from the top 4 again, should have got 350 though. hopefully Broad, Bresnan and Swann get some good practice in for the South Africa game.

Why does Yardy even play. Has he ever contributed significantly down the order when it really matters? He's supposed to be a batsman who can bowl for goodness sake. Even Bresnan is outbatting him.

Yardy is just being played as a second spinner. If England are going to play a second spinner, why not play a good one. In fact Monty's batting ability has improved recently. Maybe better than Yardy's now. If he were to come in for Yardy he would probably do a better job :)). Even he has a matchsaving innings down the order in the ashes.

Yardy unbalances the team right now. I would prefer Bopara to him - we are a batsman short as it is. This is why Monty is also ruled out.

They've mucked him about - in and out of the side, up and down the order..... he's the finisher now and doesn't like the responsibility.

Davies seems to be able to get his innings moving quicker.

Poor show in the last ten overs from England - should have had 350.

well you're two batsmen short, with Yardy and Prior. The batting abilities of swann, Bresnan and Broad make up for it a bit (but not enough). Every one of top order pretty much has to fire. If they don't, lower order has to step up which they aren't doing at the moment.

Bell still had to play himself in at the beginning, slowing down the run rate. The earlier he comes in the more he can grind himself in, take advantage of the powerplays and gain some momentum to produce a big innings. He's good at accelerating the innings once he's in (which is why it's important for him to play a long innings), but he's not someone who can keep a healthy strike rate from the word go. Though he's performing at no.4 now, so persist with him for the moment. Collingwood doesn't look too bad either, he hasn't really been required to play a long innings in both India and Ireland match, but knew his job was to hit a few boundaries and boost England's total. Which he did go out and do (just a pity he got out). He's an adaptable player capable of doing that, or producing a really good long innings when the pressure's on.

23 extras by the Irish. 20 of them wides... An area which can certainly be improved. Well, at least there weren't any no-balls.

Now it's time to see the "9 an over" Anderson bowl.

He's had a decent run as an opener in the past. What worried England is that he came back to the ODI side after the ashes and they expected him to be different. He wasn't, he was same old Prior. The same Prior that had also been a consistently good test batsman even before the ashes. I pretty sure the English selectors are now cursing themselves they didn't persist with Davies.

I think Prior will do a better job where he's playing now. I mean he isn't really so much of a finisher, he's playing ahead of both yardy and bresnan. Yardy should be the finisher. If anything the guy guiding england home/to the end of the 50 overs is Swann. And that's not really expected of him.

And the minnow basher Anderson strikes first ball with the new "nut". :)))

I wouldn't call him a minnow basher at all. But I admit he was slightly lucky to have got a wicket with that ball.

Still he bowled pretty well in the first over especially the last ball.

unsuccessful review :aleem

this guy is getting more n more amazing with every tour mashAllah!!!

Yardy on. he averages 49 runs per wicket in ODIs. that's awful.

Only man that can stop Ireland from cruising is Swann, pitch is absolute dead, Ireland can chase this total.

Hope Ireland takes this to the wire...a true rivalry between these two would be great for cricket.

Great. Anderson starts performing and now Broad the consistent ODI performer decides to have a bad game :)))

I'm seriously getting tired of these dead pitches. Once in a while is okay but, on such a consistent basis it's so tiring. Dunno why the Indians like it so much.

Bresnan is the ideal over achiever. Was pleasantly surprised by his test bowling in the Ashes.

Ed is a lucky boy. Matty don't drop many these days.

Shoddy fielding, we need to buck our ideas up. A better team would make us pay.

Matt Prior is probably the worst player playing for non-minnow teams in this world cup

ODI-wise that could actually hold merit

top test player though

Steve Davis or Keiswetter should have been in this world cup squad instead of Prior. I don't see any role for Prior in this England team.

I am watching Brave heart and the Irish game, would be nice if Ireland manages a win, Mel Gibson would be proud.

Nope kapugedara & chamara silva

I would have agreed to that, but the circumstances in which he played that innings (the death of his sister only a few days prior to the match) is commendable. I always thought he was a very aggressive player, and his innings wasn't completely opposite of that.

England have been absolutely naff in the field. Once again Swann drags them out of a rut.

Swann absolutely did Joyce there. beautiful. 2-fer.

If he wasn't in the right frame of mind to play then the management should've figured that out and been open with him and given him time to rest and recover. It's the World Cup after all. You need all your players firing to win a game.

Definitely agree with that. Obviously, I don't know (not sure many do) why his innings was the way it was.

Anderson 4 over 11 runs O_O I guess he has booked his place in the team for another 2 matches :P

Prior is having a mare and the Jimmy Anderson Disease seems to have vacated the Burnley man and passed on to Broad. This is grim!

Going to be a lot of rollockings handed out after this game.

3-47 for Swann off his 10. Looks to be in a foul mood with the rest of the team and himself (he's bowled better) but a handy spell of wickets nonetheless, that have ensured England will win.
