Villa continue their impressive form with a 3 0 win over Palace and move up to 6th.

Fulham draw 0 0 versus Southampton. Useful point for Fulham.

Fulham are becoming orgainsed, I think they will stay up this season.

Villa looking strong but Palace are playing very poorly esp at the back.

So much better from Arsenal tonight. The youngsters lifted the team.

Great win 3-1 against a very average Chelsea side.

Chelsea, Leicester and Man Utd all drop points.

Come on we need some sort of challenge in the Premier League this year, LFC to walk it again it seems. :klopp

Everton go 2 pts behind Liverpool after a 1 0 win at Sheff Utd.

Man City with an easy 2 0 win over Newcastle which puts them into 5th spot.

We are still top of the league..again and still in the Champions League. Utd fans getting excited if LFC drops points, not sure why as they aint winning nothing again this season. :))

Great point for West Brom, they played really well esp in the second half.

Awful match Wolves 1 Spurs 1.

Same old Mourinho, 1-0 up then hope to hang on.

Unfortunately you don't win anything for being top mid way through the season, you'll need to stay there till the end, which is looking like a tough contest this season. You can make your predictions because you are always wrong about every team anyway, every season :)))

It wasn't me getting excited about you dropping points, it was you above getting excited about us dropping points :)))

My prediction before the start of last season was we will win the league which we did. Your prediction for this season is Utd will win the league. :)))

We are above you in the league right now and we topped our CL group easily, you will be playing on Thursdays in some eastern European country trying to win games. Where do you find this arrogance, behind Ole's wheel? :))

When you predict one thing every year for your whole life, it is bound to come true at some point in your life, so congrats on being right for the first time ever last season. :)))

My prediction is coming half way through the season, because we are in form and the season is open right now with no team playing well.

You topped an easy group in CL, we had the group of death which was the most toughest cl group in years, even then we should have topped it but fell away in 2 games, that's how close the group was.

Group of death lol.

I never predicted LFC to win the league the year before, I said City and was right even though we only missed out due to 1 point. I think we've accumlated more points in the last two seasons, than Utd have in the last 5 lol.

So your prediction right now is Ole will be off the wheel to life the Premier League trophy in May?

Lets have a bet, if Utd finish above LFC, I will never post on football again. Vice Versa? Good for it Roy? lol

I never coined the term group of death, it was termed by the media, but yes it had the finalist and semi finalist of last year and was clearly the toughest group in ages.

In the last 2 years you were trying to win the league and had a settled team while we were trying to rebuild in the last 5 - so it wouldn't be a fair comparison.
However we have come a long long way now, the team Is still settling, there might be some holes in some positions like RW/DM but we're on form and the players look motivated and happy to challenge for the title right now. Therefore I think we will do it. If you want a bet I have no problem with it.

Deal is done, enjoy your posts on football this season. In the last 5 years your net spend is over 500million while ours is just over 100 million. I agree no more excuses for Utd, its time to win the league with the money spent. Your attack and mid is decent but your defenisve is nothing special, reason for not many clean sheets. You have Wolves and Villa before you come to Anfield, so again no excuses. If you beat us at Anfield even if it's 1-0 to a dodgy Penchester, I will start to think you might come 2nd :)

Everton's game with Manchester City has been postponed due to a "number of postitive coronavirus cases".

The Premier League match had been due to kick-off at 8pm tonight, but is now set to be played at a later date.

A statement from Manchester City said: "After the latest round of COVID-19 testing, the club returned a number of positive cases, in addition to the four already reported on Christmas Day.

"With the security of the bubble compromised, there posed a risk that the virus could spread further amongst the squad, the staff and potentially beyond.

"Based on strong medical advice the Premier League, in consultation with both clubs, have decided to postpone the fixture."

Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha: "We'll take a point today, the last few games have been hard on us. I'm not thinking about scoring too much I'm just making sure I play well and see the chances keep coming.

"It's just passion I play with. People may see it as anger but I have passion, I love what I do.

"The way we wroked today I'm definitely happy and we'll take that going into the new year."

FT: Chelsea 1-1 Aston Villa

More from Villa boss Smith on how his side have adapted in their second season: "We all know how tough it is in Premier League, when got promoted had to bring in 13 new players and it takes time for them to bed in straight away.

"We managed to retain our status the following season, then you have to be choosy who you pick and we could only bring in five players.

"But you have to be here three or four seasons to have the depth a lot of clubs have, the longer you're in it the more depth you can have."

BREAKING: Premier League confirms 18 positive tests in latest round of COVID-19 testing for players and staff, more than twice as many as in previous round

Fulham's game at Tottenham tomorrow evening is in doubt after a number of coronavirus cases were recorded by the west London side.

Late late show for Man Utd as they beat Wolves 1 0.

Poor match but Utd are now just 2 points behind Liverpool.

Fulham's Premier League match at Tottenham on Wednesday has been called off because of new coronavirus cases at the west London club.

The game was due to start at 18:00 GMT at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Fulham requested for the fixture to be postponed and the decision was confirmed three hours before kick-off.

On Tuesday, the latest round of Premier League coronavirus testing found 18 people had the virus - the highest recorded in the testing programme.

Fans will once again be banned from attending football matches as more areas of England are to be placed under tougher coronavirus restrictions from midnight.

Liverpool is to be moved into tier three of the government's restrictions for England, which means fans will no longer be allowed into Anfield or Everton's Goodison Park.

The two grounds had been the only Premier League stadiums permitted to allow up to 2,000 fans inside under tier two restrictions.

Many other areas of England, including parts of the North West, the North East and the Midlands are moving into the toughest tier four restrictions from 00:01 GMT on Thursday, 31 December.

This is what they mean for elite and grassroots sport.

Can elite sport continue?
As was the case during the last English lockdown between 5 November and 2 December, and when tougher restrictions were introduced in London and the South East before Christmas, exemptions have been made for elite athletes to continue to train and compete.

And professional sports will be allowed to continue behind closed doors.

Under the existing rules, a maximum of 4,000 fans are allowed at outdoor events in tier one and up to 2,000 supporters are permitted in tier-two areas but none in tier three and four.

And Wednesday's announcement means that Liverpool, Everton and the seven EFL clubs that had been in tier two, are now within tiers three or four - so no fans are allowed at any of those games.

In Wales, elite sport remains behind closed doors.

What about non-elite and grassroots football?
The Football Association says "non-elite football" is not permitted in tier four areas. That includes:

Steps three to six of the National League System (all leagues in the system below the National League North and South)
Tiers three to seven of the women's football pyramid (all leagues in the pyramid below the Championship)
Regional National League System feeder leagues
Barclays FA WSL Academy League (unless under elite guidance)
Women's FA Cup - classified as 'non-elite' up to and including the third round
Indoor and outdoor adult grassroots football
What about other grassroots sport?
Outdoor sports courts, outdoor gyms, golf courses, outdoor swimming pools, archery, driving and shooting ranges and riding centres will remain open for use individually, or with others from your household or support bubble, or with one person from another household.

How about youth sport?
Organised outdoor sport for under-18s can continue.

And disability sport?
Organised outdoor sport for disabled people will be allowed.

What about gyms and leisure centres?
Leisure centres and indoor gyms, indoor swimming pools, indoor tennis and basketball courts, indoor fitness and dance studios and indoor climbing walls must close in tier four areas.

Fulham's match against Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday has been postponed after further positive coronavirus cases at the west London club.

The Premier League match was due to begin at 12:00 GMT on Sunday.

Fulham's previous league match against Tottenham on Wednesday was called off after a "significant number" of positive test results.

"The League and Fulham will agree a further action plan to control the outbreak," the Premier League said.

Fulham players and staff were retested after the cancellation of the midweek match against Spurs.

They had been set to train on Saturday morning but were told not to attend the session, according to The Athletic.

"Following Fulham's request to rearrange the Burnley fixture, the Premier League's Board has taken into consideration further independent medical advice and decided to postpone the match due to the exceptional circumstances of the ongoing outbreak at the club," a Premier League statement read.

"The League will rearrange Fulham's two postponed games as soon as possible."

Those who have tested positive will now self-isolate.

It is the fourth Premier League fixture to be postponed this season because of coronavirus cases.

Tottenham 'extremely disappointed' after three players attend party
A Fulham statement said: "The welfare of our players, staff and their families continue to be of paramount importance."

Fulham previously told BBC Sport they were looking into claims Aleksandar Mitrovic broke coronavirus rules by attending a New Year's party - along with Crystal Palace midfielder Luka Milivojevic.

Images on social media, reported in the Sun, allegedly show the Serbia team-mates celebrating in London with at least seven other adults.

The mixing of households indoors is banned in London under the UK government's tier four restrictions.

Fulham were contacted about the story by the Sun on Friday evening and are looking into the matter.

Tottenham also criticised three of their players after they breached rules by attending a party over Christmas.

"With low numbers of positive tests across the overwhelming majority of clubs, the League continues to have confidence in its Covid-19 protocols, fully backed by the Government, to enable fixtures to be played as scheduled," the Premier League statement added.

The Premier League says 40 players and club staff have tested positive for coronavirus over the past week - more than double the previous weekly high.

After previously testing once a week, the Premier League conducted 2,295 tests across two rounds over the past week.

Between 28 and 31 December, there were 28 new positive tests and 12 more found between 1 and 3 January.

The previous high was 18 positive results from 21 to 27 December.

"With low numbers of positive tests across the overwhelming majority of clubs, the league continues to have confidence in its Covid-19 protocols, fully backed by the government, to enable fixtures to be played as scheduled," said the Premier League.

The Football Association said there were 15 positive results from 635 tests carried out across the Women's Super League and FA Women's Championship between 28 December and 3 January.

It marks a decrease in the number of positive tests from the previous round, when there were 32 positive results from 864 tests between 14-20 December,

Four players at WSL side Manchester City tested positive as a result of them taking a trip to Dubai with the club's permission.

The latest Premier League results mark an increase in the rate of positive tests. In the latest round, 1.74% of those tested were found to be positive.

The 18 positive tests recorded between 21 and 27 December came from 1,479 tests, a rate of 1.22%.

Under Premier League regulations, players and club staff who test positive must self-isolate for 10 days.

Three matches in the English top flight were called off last week because of coronavirus outbreaks at individual clubs.

Manchester City's trip to Everton on 28 December was called off after full-back Kyle Walker and striker Gabriel Jesus tested positive.

City's match at Chelsea on Sunday went ahead despite four more members of Pep Guardiola's squad - goalkeeper Ederson, defender Eric Garcia, forward Ferran Torres and midfielder Tommy Doyle - returning positive results.

Two Fulham away matches were also postponed - at Tottenham on 30 December and Burnley on 3 January.

Fulham said the matches were cancelled after a "significant number" of positive cases at the club.

Last Tuesday, Sheffield United said they had recorded "a number" of positive tests but opted to play at Crystal Palace on Saturday with a depleted squad.

The importance of players sticking to the protocols has been stressed to the 20 Premier League clubs.

It comes after there were a number of apparent coronavirus breaches by players over Christmas and the New Year.

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been fined £25,000 by the Football Association for criticising referee Lee Mason after their defeat by Burnley.

Wolves lost 2-1 to the Clarets on 21 December and Nuno said afterwards that Mason "is not good enough" to officiate at the top level.

He later refused to apologise for his comments but has admitted they constituted improper conduct.

The Portuguese boss has also been warned about his future conduct.

Nuno had requested a personal hearing, with an independent regulatory commission deciding his remarks were personally offensive to Mason and brought the game into disrepute.

Under FA regulations, post-match comments that criticise the performance or competence of an official are allowed unless they imply bias, attack the official's integrity, are personally offensive, are prolonged, or are particularly unreasonable.

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce says it is "morally wrong" for football to continue amid increasing coronavirus outbreaks at clubs.

The Magpies were the first team to have a Premier League match postponed this season, but more than 60 games in England have been called off.

Aston Villa and Derby are also having to field under-23 teams in the FA Cup.

The Premier League has warned it could discipline clubs if they do not act over breaches of Covid-19 rules.

"Financially it's right to play on, but for me, morally, it's probably wrong," said Bruce.

"I understand people want to see a game of football but we are just as vulnerable as everybody else.

"The speed which it hit our club within hours of each other, it was quite incredible how it rips through you. It's difficult to contain and stop and it leaves people sick."

Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles contracted Covid-19 but could return to face Arsenal in the FA Cup on Saturday, though winger Allan Saint-Maximin has still not recovered from the virus.

Asked about sides having to field weakened teams in the FA Cup because of positive cases, Bruce replied: "It devalues the FA Cup. We understand we are playing seven games in January, after seven in December, and the season has been squashed and there is no room for anything else.

"But to play weakened teams or youth teams - is that the way round it? Not for me."

Elsewhere, more than 100 positive Covid-19 cases have been recorded after tests were carried out among players and staff at 66 English Football League clubs.

Saturday's two Women's Super League fixtures have been postponed because of positive coronavirus tests.

And First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has warned that "all bets are off" if those involved in Scottish professional sport do not respect extra privileges.

What sport has been affected by Covid-19 this weekend?Premier League tightens protocols & issue warning - analysis

BBC Sports News correspondent Laura Scott:

The Premier League has implemented stronger coronavirus protocols in light of a recent surge in cases, including reminding players and managers to avoid handshakes and high fives.

Compliance officers will also apply more robust policies to reporting breaches of protocols and will be tasked with checking hotel stays, travel plans and behaviour in dressing rooms.

The number of staff attending training grounds will also be reduced, social distancing will be enforced more strictly and the use of canteens will be further limited.

Stricter matchday protocols include avoiding unnecessary contact at all times, and substitutes wearing face masks.

In a note sent to clubs, the Premier League has warned it may take disciplinary action if they fail to to ensure people who breach the rules are "appropriately investigated and sanctioned."

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho does not want further disruption to their seasonSolskjaer and Ancelotti see positives

Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri, 19, has tested positive for coronavirus but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes football can continue in spite of the rise in cases.

"I personally feel safe within our bubble, we've taken all the steps we've had to following protocols and guidelines," said Solskjaer.

"What's happening outside is frightening and we have a responsibility and duty to steer clear and keep within the bubbles.

"I hope we can continue playing because it's a positive impact for anyone. I feel at home when you don't have a game yourself you're looking forward to watching a game on telly and the mental wellbeing of football has been a big positive, I think."

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti said it was safe for football to continue and was "important for people to watch on TV".

The Toffees' Premier League match at home to Manchester City was postponed four hours before kick-off following an outbreak at City.

"I think that the protocol in place now is really good. We feel quite safe," said Ancelotti. "I think that football has to continue because in this particular period, it's really important for the people, for the community, to have football on TV to watch because there are no cinemas or theatres to visit."

Mourinho sees the impossible

While Aston Villa's Covid-19 outbreak will see them field a youthful side against Liverpool in the FA Cup, their next Premier League game against Tottenham on 13 January remains in doubt.

Tottenham have already had one fixture postponed on 30 December when opponents Fulham reported a rise in Covid-19 cases and the two sides have also seen their reverse fixture moved because Spurs have reached the EFL Cup final in April.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is uneasy about any potential further schedule changes given his side also have Europa League commitments.

"I believe it is an impossible situation for a club to have three matches postponed, especially if that club plays in Europe," he said.

"For a Europa League team to have three matches postponed is completely impossible, that is the only thing I can say.

"It is for the Premier League to make decisions, if we don't play against Aston Villa we will have three matches postponed and that is impossible because it would need the Euros to get moved and that is not going to happen."

Tottenham v Fulham: Scott Parker upset at short notice for rearrangement

Fulham manager Scott Parker says it is "scandalous" Wednesday's match against Tottenham was only confirmed on Monday.

The Premier League game was originally scheduled for 30 December but was postponed at short notice because of a coronavirus outbreak at Fulham.

In a fixture reshuffle on Monday, it was rescheduled after Spurs' match at Aston Villa was postponed.

"I am angry because it is not right. It is wrong. That is why I am so angry," said Parker.

"The possibility of playing Spurs on Wednesday came on Saturday.

"We didn't think that was realistic and we were informed Monday morning at 9:30. To confirm that on Monday morning is scandalous. I accept we have to play the game, but it's the notice."

Asked if Fulham had a right to be upset, given the original match was called off with less than three hours' notice, Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho said: "Are you serious? I had the news I was not going to play them two hours before the game started."

Parker, whose side are 18th in the Premier League, said he spent "numerous hours on Sunday trying to explain it wasn't feasible" after being told the game may be rearranged for Wednesday.

The Cottagers last played on Saturday, when they beat QPR 2-0 after extra time in the FA Cup third round.

"The people making these decisions don't understand players. We have had it tough. We thought they had six days' recovery time. It is madness really," he said.

"Getting a game called off two hours or 48 hours before is irrelevant. That is disappointing. To have a game agreed at 48 hours' notice, Jose will know you plan for one game or the other. Tottenham knew they had a fixture. He will have planned for that with his team selection.

"Would this have happened with two of the biggest teams in a title clash? Probably not. This is not acceptable."

The postponement of the Villa game - because of a coronavirus outbreak in the Villa camp - left Spurs needing to rearrange three matches in a cramped fixture list that also includes Europa League commitments.

Mourinho said the Premier League's decision to rearrange their game with Fulham for Wednesday is a "positive" solution.

"The biggest impact is to have matches postponed," he said.

"The changing of the order of the matches, the impact is minimal because in the end you have to play 19 matches at home and away, you have to play two matches against every team.

"If it is to help the Premier League to go and end properly, I think it is a solution we all have to accept as a positive."

Jose doesnt learn, go 1-0 up and becomes defensive.

Spurs could have gone 3rd.

Fulham are a decent team, will stay up imo.

FT: Wolves 2-3 West Brom

What a see-saw game!

West Brom went 1-0 with a penalty, then Wolves scored twice in 5 minutes before HT to lead 2-1 at the break.

Soon into the second half, West Brom score twice in 4 minutes and then hold on to seal an unlikely and crazy 3-2 win away to Wolves.

Wolves in a little bit of a rough patch without their main man Jimenez

Impressive 1-0 away win for Brighton at Leeds.

Brighton by far the better side. Very well organised and should have won by more than 1 goal.

FT: Leeds 0-1 Brighton

Brighton manager Graham Potter speaking to Sky Sports: "To come here for our third game in six days, against this team and keep a clean sheet is a great result. I'm so proud of the players. We were smart in defence, if you open up too much you make it a game that favours Leeds and it's a third game in six days so we have to manage that situation.

"I'd rather have a second [goal] but 1-0 wins always show a lot about the character of a team, especially with the week we've had including 120 minutes and penalties against Newport [in the FA Cup]. I can't be more proud of the players.

"Its nice to win, that's what we want to do. It's important we show we're up for the fight, we can adapt and play against the opposition. Today we overall probably deserved the points.

"It's been a huge effort by the players to go again, having played Manchester City in midweek and to come here - hopefully our supporters will appreciate the effort. Overall it's a fantastic team effort. There's lots to be happy about and proud about."

Leeds United's Jack Harrison speaking to Sky Sports: "They defended really well and made it difficult for us to play our usual game.

"They had a very compact defence and we struggled to break them down. Our style is attacking and creating chances but we struggled to do that today. We have to review it and get ready for next week.

"I always had the feeling something would come but unfortunately it didn't for us. I don't think we deserved the defeat today but sometimes you have to make the most of these games and we didn't."

HT: Fulham 0-0 Chelsea

Nothing to separate the two sides! Both teams looking dangerous; Antonee Robinson sent off.

Entertaining match as Leicester beat Southampton 2 0 and go 2nd in the table.

Spurs move up to 4th with a 3-1 win away at Sheffield United.

Good to see Jose not parking the bus when it was 1-0.

FT: Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Manchester United remain top of the table.

Another big game that finishes 0-0. Quite a few of these this season.

Classy performance from Man City. Dominated the match and coasted to an easy 4 0 win over Palace.

Poor game, not enough intent. Utd parked the bus for most of the game, had a couple of chances but Alisson isnt a numpty easily saved as he know his positions.

As for playing football LFC are still the far superiour team, Utd are not going to get close to winning the league. Each team will go through poor form, LFC will come out of theirs soon.

Good 2nd half by Arsenal as they beat the awful Newcastle 3 0.
