—————

Dear Evertonians,

There has been much talk of investment in our football club recently – even takeovers – but I want to clarify that there is no ‘for sale’ sign currently hanging outside Everton Football Club.

It will always be pragmatic to explore all potential investment opportunities and, as I have been transparent about, I am focused on completing the financing for our fantastic new stadium as well as strengthening the playing squad and that might include a minority investment. That will continue.

But I want to reassure all of you that Everton Football Club is not for sale.

My commitment to the Club remains strong and focused and Kevin Thelwell and the Chairman are currently working hard to bring in new players to improve Frank Lampard’s squad.

There will be new signings and I would ask supporters to judge us at the end of the transfer window – not now – and to listen to official club channels for information.

The fact that we are an open and collaborative football club which listens to our supporters was underlined last week when we added another famous first to our long list of historic milestones when the inaugural Everton Fan Advisory Board met.

Our CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale, along with Non-Executive Director Graeme Sharp and other senior Club officials, welcomed the first fan-elected and independent advisory board of its kind in the top flight of English football to our Royal Liver Building headquarters.

This occasion firmly underlines our ongoing commitment to engage with our supporters and, as we look to the 2022/23 season, we are committed to furthering that dialogue.

Finally, I would like to thank you for your continued support.

Bit of a mess at the moment.

Spoke to a friend of mine who is an Everton fan and he's really worried about this season and thinks Everton are in for another relegation dogfight.

They’re in terrible trouble financially, so they only seem to be in the market to sell their better players and have not completed any eye-catching inbound player transfers yet.

Everton boss Frank Lampard has told his players "they have to be better, I have to be better" if they want to avoid another relegation battle this season.

Lampard was speaking after his side's 4-0 defeat by Minnesota United on their pre-season tour in the United States.

Everton secured Premier League safety last season with a win against Crystal Palace in their penultimate game.

"The players have to understand that we were in a relegation battle for a big portion of last season," said Lampard.

"We had an amazing night [against Palace] and an amazing run which was great historically for the club but, as soon as that finished, I put it to bed very quickly so the players better put it to bed as well.

"We were in that fight for a reason and, if we don't want to be in that situation again, they have to be better, I have to be better."

Everton's defeat by Major League Soccer side Minnesota United followed a 2-0 loss to Arsenal in the first game of their US tour.

They play at Blackpool and host Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv in further pre-season games before starting their league campaign at home to Chelsea on 6 August.

"Lots to think about, lots of work to do," said Lampard. "What matters is where we are at in two and a half weeks.

"If there is to be good to come out of this, the players and the dressing room have to understand that they have just put in a very poor performance individually and collectively and been well beaten."

Everton have sold winger Richarlison this summer and signed defender James Tarkowski on a free transfer after his contract with Burnley expired.

Lampard says "there is a void in forward areas", while "through the team, there are things that I want to strengthen".

He added: "The lads have trained well out here. They have trained hard as they should do but that performance should give them a real something to think about on the plane home because it has certainly given me something to think about."

Dele Alli scores twice in Everton's 4-2 friendly win over Blackpool

Dele Alli scored twice as Everton beat Blackpool 4-2 at Bloomfield Road for their first win of pre-season.

Manager Frank Lampard had warned of another Premier League relegation battle after two disappointing defeats in the United States with no goals scored and six conceded.

Everton only secured Premier League safety last season in their penultimate game.

The Toffees' Vitalii Mykolenko and Tom Davies scored in the first 11 minutes.

Championship Blackpool pulled one back before half-time through Gary Madine.

Former Tottenham and England midfielder Alli, 26, made it 3-1 after the break before Callum Connolly pulled a goal back for the Seasiders. Alli's close-range second on 63 minutes finished the game.

Sunday's victory came three days after a 4-0 defeat by Major League Soccer side Minnesota United, following a 2-0 loss to Arsenal in the first game of their US tour.

A small number of fans have been protesting outside Goodison Park this weekend to highlight what they claim is the "mismanagement" of the club under owner Farhad Moshiri.

Moshiri recently ended takeover negotiations and insisted the club is not for sale.

Everton are close to signing Dwight McNeil from Burnley for a fee in excess of £20m.

A deal for the 22-year-old is likely to be completed in the next 24 hours.

Everton have signed Burnley winger Dwight McNeil on a five-year contract in a deal worth about £20m.

McNeil made 140 appearances for the Clarets and has missed just two Premier League games since December 2018.

The former England Under-21 international is Everton's third summer signing after the arrival of his former Burnley team-mate James Tarkowski and Ruben Vinagre on loan from Sporting.

"It is an amazing feeling to sign," said McNeil, 22.

"When I heard about Everton's interest I wanted to get it done straight away because of the club and how good the team is.

"I feel playing under a manager like Frank Lampard, he will help me to get my stats up - and that is what I want to do and improve my game.

"I am a direct runner with the ball. I like to get on the ball, cut inside and create chances for the team."

McNeil was second in the Premier League for the most successful dribbles (90) last season and third in the list for the most crosses (199).

He made his England Under-21 debut against Slovenia in October 2019, alongside new Everton team-mates Tom Davies and Ben Godfrey.

McNeil joins an Everton side attempting to rebuild after flirting with relegation last season and losing influential Brazil forward Richarlison to Tottenham earlier in the summer.

"Last season was difficult for the club, but going into the last bit of the season, you saw from the players and fans the desire, mentality and togetherness they have," McNeil added.

"They came together and were united as one. That is massive for players and gives you that extra bit of confidence.

"This season we want to do better and I want to be part of the team to help them do that."

BBC

Burnley fans reckon they have got a steal with commanding that fee for McNeil. Apparently he has been rubbish, one footed and ineffectual for the last two seasons. Could turn out to be another typical misfire of an Everton signing.

Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin will miss Everton's opening Premier League game of the season against Chelsea after suffering a "freak" injury in training.

The England international, 25, missed four months last season because of a persistent muscle problem.

Now he has sustained a fresh blow after suffering a knee injury, which the Toffees are "assessing".

Manager Frank Lampard said no timeframe has been confirmed for his return and are "pretty sure what level it is."

He added: "We are hopeful it is not long term. We will miss him for Chelsea [on Saturday].

"He was looking in great physical condition and was training really well. It was a freak injury in training, which does happen.

"It's a shame but we have to find the solutions to keep ourselves strong without Dominic before he returns."

Calvert-Lewin was restricted to 18 games last season, scoring five goals, as the Merseysiders avoided relegation by four points.

His new injury leaves the side light up front after Brazil forward Richarlison was sold to Tottenham for £60m.

Solomon Rondon, Demarai Gray, Alex Iwobi and Anthony Gordon are the options available for Lampard up front.

DCL will be out for much longer than just this weekend.

Everton losing key players at regular intervals and are bang in trouble.

Should've cashed in on the one season wonder.

Made some decent signings under the radar, will be comfortably top half, teetering outside top 6.

Everton? You are kidding?

Our side really isn't that bad, lampard came in when we were at rock bottom and dragged us safe.

Tarkowski, mcneil, vinagre and gueye are very good signings.

Still need 1 CM and a striker.

Lampard is a poor manager.

Arrogant and deflects responsibility.

No idea why people think that. Did well at Derby, did well 1st season at Chelsea and saved Everton last season.

He also picked up more points than the media darling Gerrard at villa.... not a peep gets said about him

Everton manager Frank Lampard has confirmed Dominic Calvert-Lewin is expected to be out for six weeks with a knee injury.

The Toffees have been dealt a huge blow just days before Saturday’s Premier League opener against Lampard’s old club where he made his name, Chelsea.

Calvert-Lewin endured a frustrating campaign with Everton last term with injury limiting him to just 18 appearances in all competitions.

With his injury woe seemingly behind him, the striker enjoyed a strong pre-season and appeared ready to hit the ground running until a knee injury picked up this week put him back on the sidelines.

Rumours had suggested the 25-year-old could be out for three months, and while Lampard eased those fears of such a lengthy spell, he admitted the Toffees will be without their man man up front for a chunk of their opening games.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Lampard said: “Losing a player like Dominic in the week going into the first game is obviously going to affect you.

“I think we’re probably looking at around six weeks for the injury.

“I saw a couple of crazy rumours yesterday but he’s been assessed over a couple of days and that’s where we are.

“It comes with the territory of having a squad and training at this level and we’ll have to work around it and other players will have to step up and hope that six weeks passes relative quickly and we get Dominic back.”

Asked If it was related to last season’s injuries, Lampard said: “No, Dominic was looking great. He was really fit, really strong.

“I’d taken him out for one pre-season game as a precaution but through pre-season we were constantly talking about how good he looked and seems, which was positive.

“It’s a knock for everybody, but particularly for him.

“I know the feeling and any player would know the feeling when you’re getting pumped up and ready for the new season.

“I feel for him but we’ll support him and as a team and a squad, we just have to look at the games that are in front of us.”

Calvert-Lewin’s absence has deepened Everton’s problem in attacking areas going into the start of the new campaign.

The Toffees lost star man Richarlison to Tottenham at the end of last season, leaving them with a sizable hole to fill in the side.

It leaves Salomon Rondon as their only fit centre-forward heading into the season, although they will be without the 32-year-old against Chelsea due to suspension.

Lampard was quizzed on reported interest in Chelsea striker Armando Broja, and while refusing to comment on specific names, he did admit that signing an attacker would be a priority.

“I wouldn’t speak about targets individually but I think in that area of the pitch, yeah.

“We lost Richarlison who was versatile across the front and I know that we brought in Dwight [McNeil] but we’re very aware of areas where we want to strengthen.

“And going into the first game with Salomon [Rondon] suspended as well, it’s pretty clear that it might be one of the areas that we look at.”

Everton are hopeful of signing Lille midfielder Amadou Onana after submitting a £33 million offer and are also interested in a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers centre back Conor Coady

Everton's run ended

Everton 0-1 Chelsea

Chelsea’s opener was their 139th penalty goal in Premier League history, the outright most of any side.

Since Thomas Tuchel’s first away match in charge of Chelsea in February 2021, only Manchester City (70) have won more Premier League away points than the Blues (63 – W19 D6 L4).

Everton lost their opening league game of the season for the first time since 2011-12 (0-1 v QPR), ending the longest current unbeaten such run in the Premier League (10 – W4 D6).

Chelsea won their opening match of a Premier League season for the 20th time, with no side winning more such games in the competition (Man Utd also 20).

Everton to be fair have some injuries, but they looked pretty toothless tonight. Chelsea did not have to try very hard to win that match.

Everton defender Ben Godfrey fractured his leg in Saturday's defeat by Chelsea.

Godfrey, 24, sustained the injury in the 10th minute after tackling Kai Havertz, who was through on goal.

He received treatment for eight minutes before being stretchered off and was taken to hospital.

Everton manager Frank Lampard said Godfrey suffered a "small fracture" of the fibula bone and will be out for "months rather than weeks".

"It feels like it is a small fracture of his leg," Lampard told Sky Sports. "We are assessing that. He will be out for a while."

Everton also lost centre-back Yerry Mina to injury in the second half, with Lampard saying the Colombian had an ankle injury and "could be out for a while".

Chelsea won the game 1-0 with Jorginho's first-half penalty the difference.

Meanwhile, Lampard said the Toffees are "nearly there" with the signing of Lille midfielder Amadou Onana.

The Belgian, 20, was at Goodison Park to watch Saturday's match.

"We have followed him for a long time. I think he is going be a really good player," said Lampard.

"He is a really good all-round midfield player, but he is a young player so we have to be patient with him."

BBC

Need a striker or two. Apparently Onana played 11 games last season..! Learning nothing from Gbamin especially given the injury prone nature of the team, something is clearly wrong.

Not bad football but Gordon looks a little headless chicken beyond the speed. Ellis Simms scored twice for Sunderland which all things considered, wasn't a bad fallback but then this is a club that is so badly mismanaged, it beggars belief.

Everton are closing in on the signing of Wolves defender Conor Coady.

Everton's Ben Godfrey is expected to be out for about three months after suffering a fractured fibula against Chelsea on Saturday.

The 24-year-old England defender will now begin rehabilitation after undergoing surgery on Monday.

Team-mate Yerry Mina sustained an ankle ligament injury in the second half of Saturday's 1-0 home defeat.

The Colombia defender, 27, will see a specialist this week to discover the full extent of the problem.

Everton sign Conor Coady from Wolves on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

Everton looked woefully short of personnel on Sunday but now could be hauling themselves back into contention with these acquisitions. Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye are both due to arrive this week. Coady has slightly come out of nowhere for them but is a brilliant signing — mistake by Wolves to let him go.

BREAKING! Everton have signed Amadou Onana from Lille for £33.5m

As long as they stay within the Financial Fair Play guidelines this time then Everton seem to be doing some good business. I’m not convinced by Frank as coach though.

The narrative in the run-up to Aston Villa's game against Everton was about Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, midfield rivals as players, facing each other as managers for the first time.

But for both the picture will be far bigger than that.

It may only be two games into the season but there is a sense that Lampard and Gerrard have plenty to prove as they look to establish themselves as Premier League managers.

Beforehand, the pressure was arguably greater on Gerrard. Last season ended disappointingly with just two wins from Villa's final 10 games and this season got off to an equally poor start with a loss at Bournemouth.

He had also made the big call to replace Tyrone Mings as captain with John McGinn, while his decision not to start the defender against the Cherries raised eyebrows.

Tyrone Mings started his first game of the season after he was on the bench against Bournemouth in Aston Villa's Premier League opener
A bold decision - but one that appears to have been vindicated as Mings returned to the starting XI against Everton and put in an assured performance that included a superb last-ditch tackle to deny Salomon Rondon an equaliser in the final seconds of the 2-1 win.

"It is important for me to say that we made a decision to change the captain, and I made that decision because I wanted my own stamp on that position," said Gerrard after the game.

"No-one has taken Tyrone Mings out of the team. He was injured last week, he came back, trained really well and was really good today. Credit to him."

Villa really should have won by a bigger margin but three points provide a positive platform for them to build on following some criticism of their previous displays.

"I think we deserved the external criticism," added Gerrard. "I don't think our level of performance was where we needed to be last week but we stayed calm and used the week to prepare the best we can.

"I think this was one of our strongest performances in terms of control and positional play. We looked really dangerous."

While Villa are up and running, the wait for a win goes on for Lampard.

Everton fans will not accept another season of struggle and that means the pressure will be on the former Derby and Chelsea boss to get that first victory as soon as possible.

"For Frank Lampard, the story switches to him now," ex-England and Arsenal defender Martin Keown said.

"They have Nottingham Forest coming up. There's a lot of pressure building very early in the new season."

Key to their problems is the lack of a striker. Anthony Gordon, naturally a winger, has started the past two games as a makeshift striker and while he has worked hard the result is that after two games Everton have scored just once and that was an own goal.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still a couple of weeks away from returning from injury, meaning Lampard will probably have to bring someone in before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

"Everton need a striker, a focal point," said former Everton defender Ashley Williams. "They need someone to shoulder the burden of scoring goals in that team.

"The performance last weekend was OK, but today they weren't as good."

There are bright spots, however, with James Tarkowski and Conor Coady looking good additions in defence, while 20-year-old right-back Nathan Patterson, who made his debut against Chelsea, has been a real positive.

"I thought there was some good and bad in the performance," said Lampard. "It was a pretty even game other than the transition goals that we gave away.

"It's a similar feeling to last week but some things are understandable - new players in the team, the injuries we've taken in - so we have to be a bit patient."

After guiding Everton to safety last season Lampard has earned time to make his mark this season but patience in football can be quick to run out.

Everton have turned down a £40m offer from Chelsea for England Under-21 forward Anthony Gordon.

It is understood Chelsea are likely to come back with a higher offer in a bid to tempt Everton to sell the homegrown 21-year-old.

There is the potential for a cash-plus-player loan as Everton have previously been linked with two Chelsea players, Armando Broja and Conor Gallagher.

Both made late appearances in Chelsea's draw with Tottenham on Sunday.

'New-look Chelsea are a force to be reckoned with'
Well-placed sources have told BBC Sport a deal could be done in the coming days as personal terms will not be an issue.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin injured and Richarlison sold to Tottenham, Gordon has started both Everton's games so far this season in an unfamiliar number nine role.

Gordon, 21, made his Everton debut in January 2020 and signed a five-year contract in September 2020.

Everton defender Yerry Mina is set to be out for eight weeks with an ankle injury suffered on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

The Colombia international, 27, was forced off in the second half of the 1-0 home defeat by Chelsea on 6 August.

Fellow centre-back Ben Godfrey also fractured a leg in the 10th minute of that match.

Mina was not in Everton's squad for the 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday.

He made only 13 league appearances last season in a campaign disrupted by injuries.

Manager Frank Lampard said Everton had enough cover at centre-back despite Godfrey being out for three months.

Lampard signed Conor Coady on loan from Wolves and former Burnley defender James Tarkowski on a free transfer in the summer.

He also has centre-backs Mason Holgate and Michael Keane in his squad.

Everton and Besiktas are in talks about a potential loan move for midfielder Dele Alli.

The 26-year-old, who has been capped 37 times by England, has started one game in 13 Everton appearances since joining the club from Tottenham last January.

However, it is not certain that a loan move to Turkey will happen.

If it does, it would represent a blow to the former Spurs player, who joined Everton in attempt to revitalise his career.

Alli played his part in key results that helped Everton avoid Premier League relegation last season.

But Everton boss Frank Lampard has called on Alli to show more consistency in training. He has been used as a second-half substitute in both of the club's league defeats so far, against Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively.

Meanwhile, it is understood Everton are edging closer to concluding the signing of Paris St-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gueye.

Gueye, 32, left Everton to join PSG in 2019 for about £30m.

The two clubs have been in talks about a return to Goodison Park for the Senegal international since last month.

BBC

Dele Alli, what a nosedive.

His career has been a shocking failure considering how well it started off.

Demarai Gray salvaged a late point for Everton against Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park as the Toffees' winless start to the Premier League continued.

Brennan Johnson looked to have scored a winner for the visitors that would have condemned Everton to a third defeat in their opening three games for the first time in the Premier League.

Not since 1990 have the Toffees endured such a poor start, but winger Gray's 88th-minute leveller ensured Frank Lampard's side avoided that unwanted piece of history.

Johnson finished smartly in the 81st minute after Jordan Pickford palmed out Ryan Yates' effort from range but Forest led for only seven minutes.

Lampard has 1 point from 3 games with tough fixtures ahead and one has to say that he is again probably starting to come under some pressure.

Next 5 fixtures for Everton.

Brentford, Leeds and Arsenal away.

Liverpool and West Ham at home.

Not looking great.

There won’t be many connected to Everton who would fondly recall the final months of last season.

Sleepless nights, continual pressure, do or die every game.

And yet, perhaps Frank Lampard might miss the simplicity.

Everton had to win, it didn’t matter how, and there was an overriding unity which coalesced around the players belatedly scrapping for survival and the fans dragging them over the line.

Leading that fight, with six goals in those final nine tumultuous games, was Richarlison. He said Everton wouldn’t go down, and proved good to his word.

His fellow front man Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late return added a decisive full-stop to relegation fears against Crystal Palace in the penultimate league fixture, and everyone could begin to hope for better things to come.

They still can, with just three of the new season’s 38 games in the books, but the fact neither of those players are around just now, one permanently, the other injured again, is casting long shadows over any hopes of tangible progress around Goodison.

The equally long faces in the home dressing room after the final whistle of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with promoted Nottingham Forest, ensuring a solitary point on the board from those opening three fixtures and staving off a genuinely dreadful start, said much. The frustration was palpable.

As did Lampard’s downbeat demeanour during his post-match media duties.

The tale of this game, and Everton’s season thus far, was stark.

Nineteen goal attempts, only one sufficient to beat keeper Dean Henderson, and a painfully glaring lack of cutting edge.

Having been appointed at the end of January, Lampard has always said his first full season in charge cannot entail “going to the moon”, which is apt because his team currently lacks the firepower to even get off the launch pad.

At one stage on Saturday, he used Dwight McNeil, who did not score a single goal for relegation-bound Burnley in 40 appearances last season, in a central attacking position after the withdrawal of his only striker Salomon Rondon, who had managed just two shots, getting neither of them on target, in his 57 minutes on the pitch.

Substitute McNeil’s central striking remit is unlikely to be a solution Lampard tries again, even if no further reinforcements arrive before the trip to Brentford next Saturday.

But, with the admission afterwards that the signing of a new forward is not imminent as the September 1 transfer deadline looms, Lampard’s terse manner was understandable.

It’s easy to imagine his envy looking at the visiting squad.

Forest started with new forwards Jesse Lingard and Taiwo Awoniyi as part of their attack, brought on £42.5million ($50.3m) attacking midfielder and former Everton target Morgan Gibbs-White, and didn’t feel the need to give Emmanuel Dennis, their £20m striker signed from Watford, a debut.

Granted, it didn’t make the Premier League newcomers overwhelming opponents — Everton would likely have beaten them with a proper striker available — but it was still a sobering dose of perspective.

The nearer we get to the end of this transfer window, during which Everton have made positive additions in defence and midfield, the more those steps forward are diminished by their negligence in not replacing Richarlison sooner.

Speaking the day before Forest’s visit, Lampard suggested it was unfair to criticize the club for not yet filling that Brazilian-sized hole. He pointed to the fact you could not have foreseen Calvert-Lewin succumbing to another injury on the eve of the new campaign.

But that papers over the reality that even with Calvert-Lewin fit, it was still essential to replace Richarlison, last season’s top scorer, after his move to Tottenham in a deal worth £60m on June 30.

Deep down, Lampard probably knows that, but as he acknowledged on Saturday, there are plenty of “moving parts” around Everton’s recruitment and it is anything but straightforward.

Chelsea’s pursuit of their Anthony Gordon, which could represent a cash influx to change the parameters of Everton’s striker search, will move at a pace that suits the Londoners on their terms. If they are in no rush to return with a bid sufficient to prise the 21-year-old out of Goodison, and it would have to be above £50m, there are extra question marks hanging over the scale of the Merseysiders’ plans for what remains of this window.

For Lampard, the prospect of losing Gordon when he is trying to build a young, vibrant side is galling. But supporters who fear a repeat of last term are just as galled by that side’s present lack of goal threat.

It is not all doom and gloom.

The astonishing revival of Alex Iwobi in midfield continues apace and his form, combined with the creative threat provided by Gordon and Demarai Gray, could create plenty of opportunities if a proper goalscorer was in the team.

The trio made 29 successful passes into the final third of the pitch between them on Saturday but there was nobody to add the decisive finishing touch — either that or the opportunity fell to one of them, and only Gray held his nerve.

“We had 19 shots and it’s hard when you have a lot of opportunities and a bit of control to sustain that confidence,” Lampard said. “The frustration is when you have 19 shots at home, you expect to score more than one goal.

“To be more clinical is to find those moments and be ruthless in them, and some players have that by nature and some not so much. Sometimes you just need someone with a bit more composure to be clinical, and Demarai showed that.”

Lampard pointed to a moment when the ball pinballed around Henderson’s six-yard box but nobody in a blue shirt could apply that all-important touch.

It cost them against Chelsea and then Aston Villa as they lost the season’s first two matches by a single goal. It cost them against Forest. It will continue to cost them. For now, counting costs remains part of Everton’s transfer policy, the impact of past excess.

But creative solutions have to arrive in the next 11 days or sustaining the feelgood spirit of survival from May will be a difficult task.

Lampard used all his leadership skills and ability to win over the fans during that nerve-shredding, pulsating run-in.

But surviving like that is not sustainable.

The test for him, and the club’s board, is to progress without that supercharged aura around the club 24-7.

To find the right balance, the right striking options, to ensure steady, calmer progress can arrive.

Anthony Gordon tells Everton and Frank Lampard he wants Chelsea transfer

Anthony Gordon has told Everton and manager Frank Lampard he wants to leave to sign for Chelsea.

It is understood that Gordon, 21, wants to play Champions League football and also feels he stands a greater chance of breaking into England’s World Cup squad by playing at Stamford Bridge.

Everton have been made aware that Chelsea are ready to pay £50million plus £10million in potential add-ons.

Personal terms between Gordon and Chelsea are not expected to be a problem.

Gordon is a priority target for Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, whose side sit 12th in the Premier League table with four points from their opening three fixtures.

As it stands, a deal between the two clubs is not imminent and there remains a chance that it does not happen before the September 1 deadline.

Everton have already turned down bids from Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur for Gordon this summer.

While Everton respect Gordon’s wishes, the club know they are in a strong position because the player is under contract for another three years. An improved offer remains on the table.

After the sale of Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer, there is now also not a financial obligation to let Gordon depart and Everton have no concerns about his attitude if a move does not materialise.

There is a further reluctance on Everton’s part in that Gordon’s exit would leave them with little time to source a replacement. The club also want to invest in other positions before the deadline, such as up front, where Southampton’s Che Adams is a leading target.

Chelsea added Raheem Sterling to their attacking ranks earlier this summer but with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner allowed to leave on respective loan and permanent deals this window Tuchel is seeking more reinforcements before the transfer deadline.

Sterling, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz have together registered just one assist in Chelsea’s opening three Premier League games.

Everton midfielder Dele Alli is expected to arrive in Istanbul during the early hours of the morning to complete his move to Besiktas

Everton midfielder Dele Alli has joined Turkish side Besiktas on loan for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.

The 26-year-old joined Everton from Tottenham in February and started one game in 11 appearances for the Goodison Park club last season.

He has made two substitute outings - in league defeats against Chelsea and Aston Villa - for the Toffees this season.

Alli won the last of his 37 caps for England in 2019.

Besiktas have said they will not pay a loan fee to Everton but there is an option to buy included in the deal.

Alli will be paid a guaranteed 2m euros for the loan plus a maximum of 10,000 euros per game.

A two-time winner of the PFA's Young Player of the Year award, he did not score or register an assist in 13 games for Frank Lampard's side.

Besiktas finished sixth in the Turkish Super Lig last season.

Dele, what an enigma.

Being loaned out to Turkey to save on wages is like a death knell for his career at the top level.

starting to fear the worst now. Cannot believe we haven't signed a striker

Being linked with loads. Che Adams looks like he is staying at Southampton now, but you might get one from the Championship like Ben Brereton Diaz.

Signing Maupay from Brighton, who i quite like. Still need another and hopefully Gueye over the line.

Dele, what an enigma.

Not just wages... we owed Spurs £10m if he played 20 games.

Quite nice to have Levy's pants down though

Neal Maupay is undergoing a medical at Everton, the deal is now very close between Everton and Brighton

Everton have completed the signing of striker Neal Maupay from Premier League rivals Brighton for an undisclosed fee.

The French player has joined the Toffees on a three-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2025.

Maupay has scored 26 goals in 102 appearances for Brighton, having signed for the Seagulls for £16m from Brentford in 2019.

"Everton is a great club with unbelievable fans and I am so, so happy to be here," the 26-year-old said.

"It feels amazing. It was an easy choice for me when I started to talk with the club. I knew straight away I wanted to play for Everton and help the club to succeed.

"I'm excited and it's a new challenge for me."

Maupay becomes Everton's sixth signing of the summer following the arrivals of James Tarkowski, Ruben Vinagre, Dwight McNeil, Conor Coady and Amadou Onana.

Everton boss Frank Lampard has been keen to strengthen his attacking options after losing Richarlison to Tottenham in the summer and an early-season injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

"We're delighted to bring Neal to Everton, a player of proven quality in the Premier League," he said.

"We wanted to strengthen our attacking options and Neal provides a goalscoring threat, as well as bags of energy and a fighting spirit that are vital to what we're building at the club."

Everton boss Frank Lampard said the deadline for which he would consider selling winger Anthony Gordon had now passed.

No prospect of Gordon leaving Everton

Anthony Gordon won't be leaving Everton this summer despite strong interest from Chelsea.

Sky Sports have been told there has not been a point where the club have considered the possibility of him being sold.

The Everton hierarchy have been resolute in their determination to keep the talented 21-year-old at Goodison Park, despite two strong bids from Chelsea, which were both flatly rejected.

Frank Lampard told the Everton board that he didn't want Gordon to leave as early as June when there was interest from Spurs and Newcastle.

Gordon has scored two in two for Everton and has shown once again his importance to the side, especially with the club's threadbare striker situation.

Everton are also confident of adding another striker to their squad before Thursday's deadline, as well as the return of Idrissa Gueye from PSG.

Everton seek first win

Everton v Liverpool (12:30 BST)

Everton's last dip into on-field action was at Leeds, where they engaged in some similar time-wastery antics as Newcastle but got away with it and claimed a draw.

Frank Lampard's lads remain without a win this campaign, though, and sit just above the relegation zone as one of three teams fore whom three points from five games is most certainly not enough.

However, unlike last Tuesday, they will have striker Neal Maupay available to them, with no bank holiday to hold up his registration any further. They also have some other new faces to chuck in the mix today as they go in search of what would be a very sweet first league win of the season.

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford speaking to BT Sport: "We didn't get the three points but we got the draw and can start building now.

"I made some good saves, Alisson made some good saves, but that's our job.

"It's my first clean sheet of the season and another building block for the team to get better.

"We have four points from four draws, but if we keep building we will get stronger and get the wins."

Fantastic spirited performance from Everton. That midfield of Onana, Iwobi and Davies looked so impressive.

Everton are to issue lengthy stadium bans to a fan who threw a bottle that narrowly missed Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and another who ran on the pitch during Saturday's Merseyside derby.

The club have identified both fans.

The incidents occurred after Everton had a goal disallowed by the video assistant referee in the 71st minute of the 0-0 draw. at Goodison Park.

A bottle was thrown from behind the technical area, while a fan ran on to confront referee Anthony Taylor.

The Football Association are aware of both incidents and will be investigating them.

Everton will also cooperate with Merseyside police if they wish to take the matter further.

"I thought it was a glass bottle but it was not, I've seen it now," Klopp said after the game. "It looked like glass and that would have been really dangerous, but it was plastic."

Before the new season, it was announced that pitch invaders at Premier League and English Football League matches will receive an automatic club ban under new measures to tackle fan behaviour.

Concerns were raised about safety at grounds after a number of pitch invasions at the end of last season.

Looked good today against Liverpool.

Some solid signings make them look much tougher to beat.

Expect them to move up the table soon.

Big blow for Everton because he has been a key player in their quest for points.

Jordan Pickford is understood to have suffered a thigh injury that is likely to keep him out for up to a month.

Andy Lonergan, Everton’s third-choice goalkeeper, is also out with a knee issue. However, he is expected to return sooner than Pickford. This will leave Asmir Begovic as the only senior goalkeeper at Goodison Park.

Everton have considered looking at bringing in a free agent to help fill the gaps left by the pair’s injuries. But veteran Lonergan should return after the international break, while Begovic is considered to be solid cover for Pickford. As a result, it is unlikely they will bring someone in.

Everton would use a younger goalkeeper as backup to Begovic while the pair are out.

Pickford is thought to have been troubled by the thigh problem in recent games.

The injury to Pickford could see him miss Everton’s games against Arsenal and West Ham United this month. If he is out for a full month, he would also miss the game against Southampton on October 1. Pickford has started every one of Everton’s Premier League games so far this season.

Pickford is also likely to miss England’s Nations League games against Italy and Germany in the last two weeks of September.

The 28-year-old would have hoped to have been involved to cement his spot as Gareth Southgate’s No 1 ahead of this winter’s World Cup.

Everton have opened talks with English winger Anthony Gordon, 21, on a bumper new contract worth six times his current salary.

Richarlison left Everton to join Tottenham Hotspur in the summer due to his former club’s “lack of ambition”.

The Brazil international moved to Tottenham in the summer for £60million. He has started the season well, helping Spurs to third in the table.

And he has now explained why he chose to end his four-year stint at Everton, who finished 16th last season and are currently 17th.

Richarlison told FourFourTwo: “Perhaps they’re suffering with a lack of ambition nowadays. You know, that eagerness to win matches and trophies. I spent four years there and I could see there was still a very long way to go to achieve big things.

“I felt it was the right time to move on, and the club also had to make some money. It was a good deal for everyone involved. I’m delighted with this new challenge at Spurs.”

The 25-year-old did admit it was a difficult decision to leave GoodisonPark.

He continued: “It’s always a tough call when you have such strong connections with your club, and that was definitely the case for me.

“I was happy at Everton and I’m grateful for everything I learned there. It’s a big club with a lot of history.”
