Great win yesterday..

Should have scored another 3 goals but for their keeper who made some fine saves..

Hope we take this intensity to Wembley and bag our first trophy in 6 years...

Regarding Arteta, I have supported him since day one because we could see what he was trying to do, I.e making us solid; getting rid of players that were not prepared to track back and defend as a team etc etc

However, a few Arteta fans here, including myself, had said that this was the season that was going to define his last few years as manager and whether he should remain as manager moving forward. So far, he's succeeding on that score.

COYG
Exactly - I was clear at the beginning of the season that if he does not win either UCL or PL then it might be time to move on cos he'd obviously taken us as far as he could.

I also said we would win the League after the Eze signing and have stuck by it. I had some doubts after the Wolves game but I think that was just the disappointment of how it happened.

People need to realise that our best players are now in their Peak or approaching their peak. This is the time to win and then hopefully build on it with sustained success. If we didn't win anything this season then do you risk another season with the same guy? it would be insanity.

Anyway doesn't matter cos its gonna be a special season and Arteta and the players have a chance to build a legacy - the 1st for the emirates era.

Rival fans dont like it when Arsenal fans say they prefer the PL over the UCL. The PL is the bread and butter. Its your week in week out.

If you were to ask me which I would prefer. I would say the PL this year and then win the UCL as the reigning PL champions the following season. I mean winning both in the same season will be the dream!

But 1 CL is better than 3 PL according to experts like @ads101 🤣🤣

People Question fergies legacy because he won 2 UCL in 26 years. Yet they forget the bread and butter of any Club is the league Title.

The GOAT = 13 premier league titles
Fergie also won cup winners cup twice. Once with Aberdeen which was an amazing feat, also won 2 league titles at Aberdeen, in a league which is dominated by two sides.

Then again you have clueless ball merchants think 1 PL in 9 years, and 5 years without a trophy as legacy for klopp and Arteta 🤦‍♂️

They also forget that Fergie was on his last legs and about to be sacked before Manu started to win everything...
It's a fine line between success and failure.
I hope Arteta wins us trophies, if he goes on to win 30% of what Fergie did then he would have done brilliantly, as long as we don't go through the same drought as Manu after he's gone :sneaky:

Hate to say it. Arsenal is not getting past Barca in teh semiis they meet.
Why? Did you watch the game or just see the score line?

They can't defend to save their life. They don't even have 1 high quality defender. They rely fully on their attack. It will be a challenge for our strong defence however to Imply as you have that they have no chance is in my opinion not accurate.

Hope you are right

Barca have a tough game next round vs Atheltico Madrid, who already beat them in the Copa del Ray semi final (4-0, 0-3) 4-3.

So that game won't be easy for Barca, no guarantee on a semi final place in CL
I have nightmares from the 90's of running into even average spanish teams and bottling it.

Arsenal recent record vs Spanish teams is good. But if we get to semi finals, we will see if the tempremant changes in a key big game.

One thing we can't afford is to have key players suspended or missing in any knockout Cup games for remainder of season. Espcially in midfield

We saw last season inter Milan expose Barca weak defence in full back areas and set pieces. So yeah they can be got at on counter attack.

But yeah going forward they can take anyone part.

Understandable to be honest.

I remember the cup winners Cup final we lost in the 90s to Zaragoza when we were holders. I don't recall any other games against Spanish teams back then. But ye this was a shock defeat at the time.

Maybe a tie against Barca late 90s

You'll beat Barca, no doubts about that

We matched them for 75% of the tie, arguably edged them and at that stage they were lucky to have Yamal & Lopez play the 2nd leg, we concede a stupid penalty because Trippier's legs have gone (arguably should have had a penalty ourselves moments earlier) and then fell apart after that

Too many defensive mistakes and individuals who simply don't belong at this level

You don't have that concern, you'll not be as open as we were and you'll be able to exploit their high line. Plus you'll be at home in the 2nd leg, a draw or even a 1 goal loss away in the 1st leg will more than do the trick

You get to the final for me, where I think it will then be PSG/Bayern and that would be tough to call

Ye I thought Trippier was lucky to stay on the pitch tbh. I think he needs to call it a day as experience only gets you so far at a high level.

What did you make of Dan Burn. I thought positionally he was pretty poor but kept having a go at everyone else.
I thought you put up a good fight considering the amount of games you have played and without your best player.

Inshallah we make it through. My concern is if we do get to the Semi Final/Final of the UCL and also make it past Southampton in the cup to the Semi's then the fixture congestion is intense! We do have a big squad but even then at that point of the season it can get tough especially since there will probably be a midweek PL game if we get through to the FA Cup Semi!

But this is what we want. We want to be in everything and play as much games as possible as that normally means you win something along the way.

Yeah zaragoza still to this day is the most upsetting European defeat. Espcially how we lost that game as well

That lob over Seamen from the halfway line will always be etched in my mind.

But that aside, we've always done pretty well against the Spanish sides.
Even against the great Barca sides, we were unlucky in the CL final; gong down early to 10 men when Lehman was sent off but still scoring the first goal and almost holding out for a win.

I remember Fabregas breaking his foot when scoring at home and then in the second leg Van Persie being sent off when we were dominating; that too for kicking the ball after the whistle.

Henry hat trick against Real Madrid and of course our wins both home and away in last years knock out stages.

Nothing is a Guarantee brother.

I cant tell if you are being cheeky or just lazy when you call us Ars. I will think better of you and assume you are not trying to antagonize
I think Roza lag gayah? Ars is commonly used even in live TV matches 🤷🏽‍♂️

1st cup final of the season, need to get over line and win 1st bit of silverware in 6 season.

Also I'm out watching game with 2 friends who support Man city. So even more so important to win today

City is hurt after CL elimination. We are hungry tigers. Beware, can now even top Premier league table.

Cant choose backup keeper for a final. Not to fussed about this trophy as mentioned lots of time however gotta try and win it.

Win the PL and nobody cares
Exactly although am disappointed with Arteta not making changes at half time.

We started the game well, going long and then suddenly decided to play out from the back with their front three bearing down on us... changed the entire momentum of the game in the first half... then this continued in the second half...

Brainless

Arsenal keep having those phases where they just chase the ball and wait to be punished

Congrats Man city fully deserved win.

Only 1 team turned up and played to win.

If your going to play haram tactics, make sure you win. This is on Arteta.

Havertz in midfield doesn't work, but manager as usual shoe horned his pet dig into the team

Kepa and trossard were dog **** as well

**** poor mentality got exposed today

Kepa is the cup keeper, so had no issue with him starting.

The bigger issue was the time wasting tactics kepa and our defenders were using at start of 2nd half

Then the manager decides at 2-0 to only bring one attacker

Bringing on 2 attackers in 82 minute was just played retarded from manager

Should have made changes earlier

He was awful. I thought this role as a hybrid second forward/numevr 10 would suit him but didn’t turn up today.
He was picked to do the Odegaard job and wave arms at the crowd. Absolutely useless player and you can see Arteta will do what ever it takes to get him back in the side

Watched the game. Can't name a Arsenal player who excelled to be honest.

Key is, the game at Ethihad is looming large. Arsenal and Arteta cannot be passive like today.

I've never agreed with that tbh.

I have never forgiven Emery for starting Cech in the Europa final. The last week in the UCL has shown backup keepers up.

Play the best players available.

Yes the tactics were poor but you can't be making mistakes like that during a final.

They were trying to draw the city attack in but the problem was that none of our players could make the ball stick or play through transition.

Trossard was not helping Hincapie and not doing much attacking wise. Gyokores was feeding off scraps.

Anyway just win the league now. Nobody cares. Looks like the players didn't care either

As others have mentioned, you can't pick Kepa if that's his ability. As a manager, I'm sure Arteta knows this full well.

The relentless spell of pressure from City during the period from the beginning of the second half up until City's first goal killed us. The way we sat back and played it out from defence was horrendous. It only felt it was a matter of time before City were going to do the inevitable.

I love Gabriel as a defender and for his threat as a goal scorer from set pieces. But one area of his game that worries me are his clearances and ball distribution. He always seems to struggle to have the composure when he's in possession. During that relentless spell of pressure from City, there were 3 clearances that he made where he was unable to find an Arsenal player. This has been happening for far too long.

Arteta cannot keep relying on the defence, GK and the overall off-the-ball set-up/pressing to win games. Arsenal need to upgrade their front 4 but sadly I think the manager doesn't have the ability to develop the front 4, so he will opt for underwhelming signings like Anthony Gordon etc. Even if we do win the league, is this sustainable?

The game at the Etihad may end up deciding the PL. City play Chelsea the week before but I cannot see the toothless Rosenior getting anything of that game.

Our attacking players were non existent havertz and trossard couldn't even keep hold of the ball, let alone attack with it.

All season we've played a certain. Way then come the 2 Liverpool and man city league and today, we set up in a ultra defensive manner.

Trying to scam a 1-0 win.

Whether players didn't care or not today was embarrassing.

We will set up in exactly the same way st the eithad next month as well

Just seen Kepa has lost 5 out of 5 finals before today at Wembley 😂. Not sure if true

Anyway win as a team lose as a team.

I thought Saliba was brilliant today and had Haaland locked off.

Finally the Quad talk will end now. There is a reason why it's never been done.

How about Maduekes cameo. Was hilarious to watch.

I am such a fool... I was calling for Martinelli to come on for Leo only to then remember how brainless he is.

Comedy show tonight

If you want to sum up todays performance, havertz fast pumping when we won a corner at 0-0 pretty much showed the retarded mentality of players today

Saliba was the best player on the pitch. He seems to raise his game for the big games. Sadly those around him constantly let him down.

If we get deeper in CL, I hope we Dont get these some stupid tactics we got today against one of the European Big guns. This changing of tactics and manager shitting the bed as usual

Kepa won't be in goal

Timber will hopefully be fit. Eze as well. Even if we do I don't think we'll be chucking the ball in the net.

Man City let Kepa have the ball Cos he's not Raya. Raya can spray the ball much better.

Anyway international break. I go away during half term with the kids. Time to enjoy some none footy time

How do you rate Ben White compared to Timber?

With so many Attacking ball carriers in City team. They used tactics today like they have against Arsenal before. Which was allow Arsenal to play the 1st ball of the transition for free, then as soon as ball went into zubemendi they started a press and also the city full backs pressed into Arsenal's wide players. Our passing was slow sloppy we gave ball away which then allowed City to over load in midfield and wide areas.

Zubemendi defensively was poor and the club mascot in midfield aka Artetas pet dog was useless as well. Which left rice exposed on his own.

All season we've had these type of games, usually in away games in PL. But we reserved the stinkers of all performers for today

Enjoy time away with ur kids

Timber over Ben White.

Ben White has been a great warrior for us over the years but he played a whole season carrying an injury previously which he is now paying for as he is not the same player anymore.

I think he leaves this summer with a replacement coming in.

Nothing but respect for him.

Him Saka and Odegaard had great chemistry down that side when we used to be fluid in attack. I don't think we've seen that combo this season.

Underwhelming player

No real presence. Makes too many mistakes.
Strongly Disagree. Been immense this season considering how many minutes he has played.

Mistakes here and there don't overshadow that

Needs a break as obviously tired playing so many minutes.

Arteta saying had to start Kepa or would it be unfair 😂😂

Who cares about fair and unfair.

Its unfair that fans paid serious money for a day out to Wembley for you to worry more about your players feelings. He was signed as a backup.

Before people say that Pep started Trafford. He was signed as 1st choice keeper. Kepa wasn't.

I can't believe this happened again.

The minute we started going into a shell in second half, I knew a blunder was incoming.

Serial bottlers.

This was the best chance a team could have had to win the Quadruple in a long long time. Did ourselves in at a big stage and again when it really mattered.

We will be lucky now if we get the league.

Ever since that fateful '06 Final against Barcelona, I have just been seeing this team bungle it up again and again and again.

I don't believe in jinxes, but boy if a team was ever jinxed since I started following them, it's the Gunners.
