Nobody at that time imagined Sunderland now would be the better team .

Today we were terrible, from start to finish, tactics and approach was cowardly and wrong
They’ve been better this season, more resilient and energetic than Newcastle , it showed today . But credit to the Sunderland coaching team, everyone thought they’d finish bottom but are one of the best teams so far . European football at the stadium of light is a real possibility
They have a very Good Manager. Tactically very Astute.
I agree, Sunderland are not a better team than Newcastle at all. Difference between a good season and actual comparisons. They aren't a better team, they are having a good season but their football is basic and resilient, by most metrics they are a bottom of the table side

Sunderland are doing much better than they’d be expected to while Newcastle are doing much worse. I know they lost key players in the summer who’d be difficult to replace but they have made investments in the past enough to be a more formidable side. Btw Sunderland brought in 14 players this summer. Whereas Newcastle had a poor window by all means. So very different moods at the two clubs right now.
I didn’t watch the match nor have I watched Sunderland enough to know much about them. But I will say it for you Sunderland were the better side today and will most likely finish higher than Newcastle this season. In Xhaka they have a lot of steel in their midfield. Newcastle will need to move on form Eddie Howe imo.Bro do you live on a fence ? Just say Sunderland was the better team today and are right now ?

God bless you too.God bless you brother
They are this season . They’ve been in a different league, not the same outfit now . The worst thing for the geordies , Sunderland showed more heart in a long awaited derby and deserved the 3 points
They deserve credit for their resilience and the way they play as a team, plus they do have the luxury of playing once a week (like Man U)
but look at the underlying metrics and you will see it's not sustainable unless they change things, which they might well do
They have the lowest xG in the league, they are midtable for xG conceded which is about right. I've watched a lot of their games and there is nothing unique or creative about them. However resilience, graft goes a long way but it has a limit, and I say that as someone that has seen similar before (the season we finished 5th under Pardew, everything fell for us but we barely created chances)
Even today, it took Woltemade to score an own goal, their first shot on target at home against an awful Newcastle team came on the 70th minute
Losing a derby is always bad regardless of levels, I work with Mackems and I am not looking forward to tomorrowThe aren’t Man City but effective. Losing in a derby is always on the cards but they showed more passion, determination and physicality. You have to accept this is bad and must surpass this and win in the return home fixture?
City looking dominant , a possible wining streak like Villa who were determined to come back twice to win at West Ham .
Arsenal at home to Villa will decide their ability to cross the line . @shaz619 A Villa win there , you’re in the title race for sure
