Expats leaving Saudi Arabia

For the kind of social political structure SA has, I assume success is generated by sucking up to the next higher level in the hierarchy. This produces cowardly and non-productive personalities.

Nor do the Saudis feel they have to change anything, as they regard themselves as superior being the birthplace of Islam.

That's pretty much it. It's a very archaic societal structure and I hope it changes in the next couple decades. Many locals definitely feel like they are superior to the immigrants. Sadly, it's the norm, not the exception.

It will change organically. Sadly the truth of the matter is that locals are superior to immigrants due to the cash surplus they can deploy due to oil wealth. When the effects of the slowdown in the economy means they can no longer afford to employ immigrants, they will lose their sense of superiority anyway.
