Extreme fear of house lizards!

Extreme fear of lizards! hate summers :(

My wife suffers from Herpetophobia too. I've turned down a job at IBM because it was in Houston, TX, which is hot and full of the creepy crawly critters.

Just as well, because I hated Houston. Hot and flat.

I would get a new wife if it ever comes down to that. :kapil

I know a very inefficient way of killing them.

You need to keep spraying HIT (that mosquito repellent spray) on them. They will run around so you have to spray multiple times to slow them down.

Soon they will become dormant (but not dead - it will take time). At that time, please kill the poor creature with jhaddu to release it from its sufferings.

The disadvantage with this method is that your house would stink of the HIT smell as you would have to spray a lot to make the lizard stop running around.

Another method is directly smashing it with jhaddu but you must take your shot properly.

You can even use a combo of both.

@Mamoon - I am 31 years old and I am still so afraid of Geckos and all kinds of reptiles (worst has been House Lizards). I nearly get an epilepsy(not joking) every time when I had to encounter a House Lizard suddenly (even if it is not at the touching distance). In my home I have got more than 50 house lizards of various sizes and ages. I dread the thought of opening doors (grill gates as well as wooden door/bath room door) at night time due to fear of one of these lizards falling on to my head.

What's worse is in my part of the world having house lizards is considered to be auspicious (some say it is the form of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu) and I am not the one who wants to hurt any living thing (not for the religious reasons) even a lizard which i am so afraid of.

Really?

Who says that?

Ewwww.

If you don't kill them, do they become resistant to the insecticide?

The Cobra spray works wonders, but the way the lizard goes crazy because of it scares the living daylight out of me.

Not necessarily but they can be. Most knock out insecticides just paralyze them. If they repeatedly get exposed to it without dying the receptors complementary to the drug can get desensitized to it and thats when tolerance starts.

You and my brother will get along well.He also is very scared of lizards.

But I don't get this. Why would anyone be afraid of lizards of all things??

Found a film you'll love Mamoon :)

godzilla_2014_cover_by_heli_horse-d5h1d8y.jpg

For what its worth im terrified of ants (only if theres a group of them though)

They're certainly creepy, not the type of creatures one would like to get too close with. Same with cockroaches and well, FROGS!

I can imagine Mamoon hiding behind Mila Kunis while she tries to kill a lizard with her chappal. :)))

Man up Mamoon, even I've killed a lizard.

Godzilla is a great. The common house lizards freak me out.

I like cockroaches. They have a nice color and I respect how they go all ninja and stealth on you if you try to kill them. They get super creepy once they decide to fly, which is generally a desperate move when they don't have another way out.

The girls at school like their color too. Brown?

I dont have a problem with roaches at a distance, what's creepy is the thought of them crawling on my arm.

Oh man, i understand, and they give me chills..

The other day had a lizard sitting outside my room, din't leave my room at all, funny thing was that it was dead,

That freaken lizard had been roaming around in my room for days, but it has finally Died...

Thank god mom threw it out with a wiper

If you don't kill them, do they become resistant to the insecticide?

No but over time they may get used to it and its effectiveness would drop but I doubt whether they would get to the point where its ineffective. Just like the effect of HIT on mosquitoes nowadays. You need to spray more to kill them. 10 years back, one shot and they will fall down on the spot.

There is a temple in India where lizards are sacred

Oh my freaking God.

What the freaking hell is that?

I have heard of this Varadaraja temple in Kancheepuram. What's up with this lizard thingy?

Personally, I know lizards are no Gods. I can vouch for that. They are not special. At best, they are used as omens by Hindus in the olden days.

Anyways thanks for letting me know. I am going the elders what's the deal with this lizard? Why the hell is it there as images in this temple?

Ugggghhhh.

Re: Extreme fear of lizards! hate summers :(

Had to kill one of them the other night. Not scared of them but I hear they are not good to have around when there are kids in the house due to potential food poisoning etc

You like cockroaches but are afraid of lizards?

Cockroaches have nice colour?

What's wrong with you? :))

Yeah when they fly (I doubt every one of the species can), I would crap my pants.

TBH Mamoon i have never killed a lizard and infact never paid attention to them. They go abt there business and i go abt mine.

Now flying roaches in summer. thats a problem and to solve it you need finis liquid spray ( not the gas one in bottles. Those are useless. Watery poison is what i am talking abt) and lemon Vim ( yeah it works for some strange reason).

I've heard horror stories about lizard venom. A family friend of ours was cooking tea, and just as she was about to add the tea to the boiling water on the stove, a lizard fell from the ceiling into the water.

She said the water turned a deep blue, like ink. I'm guessing she didn't add the tea to the water after that.

There have been apocryphal stories of people dying from lizard bites. I don't know if these things can bite.

Thank god I don't live in Pakistan. Otherwise wise I would be posting my fear of Lizards.

They cannot bite. And the poisoning thing is completel superstition

The poisoning thing is not superstition, one of them landed in the milk of a neighbour of mine while I was on holidays back home and he died, how do I know? they found a dead lizard in the jug.

I wont kill them if I lived alone but if I was living with my GF,Wife or Kids then yeah definitely would kill them upon sight just in case my humanity ends up being the cause of my loved ones death. They carry all sorts of bacteria in their mouths. If a bite broke your skin it could cause severe infections.

So yeah they are not venomous but they carry plenty of microorganisms that are venomous to us if we were to get in contact with them

That's true. Many people have died because Lizard contaminated food.

How did you kill it?

cool story bro, needs more dragons and....oh wait, lol.
apart from food contamination, aren't they more or less harmless- in a country like Pak, a lizard is the least of your worries---bichoos and those 3 hump ants :O

Im glad more people hate these creepy yellowish brown mean face black eyed monsters. I had lots of encounters with them back in Pakistan and glad they are not here in Germany, even now while reading this thread I checked the corner behind me to make sure none of the creepy sobs are sitting there.

I have killed a lot of them with air gun, jharoo, chapal, wiper etc but I cannot sleep or sit in the room with these creatures on the wall.

I also once pressed one to death but she was sitting on the door bell and it was dark I felt her skin on my thumb for days and still can feel that ewwww
Cold wet jelly freak in skin.

^ But you can at least kill. I would love to develop the courage.

Don't see any in UK :)

Just hate bees and wasps during summer.

I survey my room first and then block the little passage underneath the door with a long cloth. :ibutt

I got stung on the foot by a 'tumury' or something- that orange bee thing in pakistan which caused me to hate bees...I was on the roof and was screaming and ended up swearing in english at the random neighbours who were laughing and they continued...cruel people lol

Anyone here i advise you to look up the japanese hornet....

Enjoy trying to sleep later

Saw a video once where only a few hornets decimated thousands of bees. They have been spotted in England btw, which only means those nasty aggressive uber wasps might make our lives a living hell in the not so distant future.

Like the false widow spider, appeared in England and has now spread to Ireland

Now you're talking.

I dont mind lizards that much, but I'm spheksophobic. I hate bees and wasps. I cant stand them, I cant bear to even think about being somewhere where there is a wild bee or a wasp.

I feel jittery writing that out..

Japanese hornets look HUGE.

I would live in a room filled with 10 lizards than be in a place where I have to deal with 1 Japanese Hornet.

Bees and wasps scare the crap out of me.

The bigger they get, the scarier I get.

Mamoon should start debating them about how Junaid is an ordinary bowler and Kumar is an amazing bowler. They will get bored after the defeat and run away, I am sure.

Funnily enough i used to have ophidiophobia(fear of snakes) till i was about 18 but i overcame it. Lizards, bees, wasps, frogs dont creep me out though. Has anyone here on PP overcome any particular phobia?

Why everyone hates lizard?? They are harmless creatures.(esp the house lizard ones)

I have eaten the meat of monitor lizard..:D

Ever since that sting its like ive become prone to bees. They always come after me. Last time i slept in my room with window open and it came in and stung me twice and i was sleeping so it felt like it was part of the dream only when o woke up to see a wasp dead since id crushed it :))). I always run from them now. Lets not get started on hornets.

I know how Mamoon feels, I feel the same way about snakes. I'd prefer to end it all rather than confront one.

I have heard lots of rumours about people dying from lizard falling in food, but all were unsubstantiated. Cats and dogs eat lizards all the time without any ill effect

But the false widow is harmless. If i even saw a Japanese hornet here id scream loud enough to shatter the Louvre....

And thanks for telling me they're in England btw. Ive already got my weapons arsenal ordered from Moscow to fight them off

Chocolate is toxic to dogs. Just thought you'd like to know.

Yep, I know that and there is a reason for it, No reason for lizards to be poisonous to human

I don't want to live in this planet anymore.

Apparently one sting is enough to kill. Im not joking. Its also meant to be one of the most painful experiences ever. On the bright side their hives are only about 30 in size i think. Better hope you dont step on one :p

The aftermaths of hornet stings apparently aren't nice either- you become hospitalised due to the reaction of your skin. Also once the hornet stings you, it releases a message which attracts other hornets to join in on the party...Sounds fun :runaway:

I watched a documentary on them once. Apparently when they attack they release a smell that attracts other hornets to go attack you. Pretty sure that, unlike bees, they can each sting multiple times as well.....

Sleep tight. Is that a hornet i hear near SIF's house :p :yk
