What's new

Fakhar Zaman shines with 101 as Pakistan comfortably defeat Northants by 8 wickets in tour game

Our two most experienced pacers in Amir and Junaid cant create an impact even against county teams.

Azhar Mehmood might be decent with young pacers but overall the already established names have deteriorated under him.

Dont know any other team with their most experienced ODI bowlers being as toothless in recent times.

These players do not have a thinking brain or know how to utilize conditions, if a batsman is continuously going after them they will not change their lines or lengths and will carry on bowling the same place where that player is strong at.

Does anybody know if we getting replacments for malik as i am sure he will miss half the England series

The Press release says he will be back in 10 days. That is May 8th.... if you count from today. So then he misses only first ODI - unfortunately!

Northamptonshire 273/6 (50 Overs)

Bad bowling by:
Junaid Khan 10-1-79-1
Yasir Shah 10-0-61-1

Imam needs to keep on supporting Fakhar by playing with intent

Junaid trundler khan getting the stick.hopefully england smash him to oblivion in the upcoming series. Rubbish pathetic bowler

One guy carried the Northants, scored 50%+ runs for team. His career stats are not that impressive (List A is better than FC), but if this game is given List A status, this innings will be his career List A highest.

PAK should look to chase this inside 35 overs, max 38, be loosing 6-7 wickets; which should give the team confidence to chase down 350 sort of targets.

Btw i have just heard warm up match between pakistan and afghanistan will be shown on SKY

Yes thats good to see we need him firing for any chance but i think teams have worked him out

Wasim 9.0 0 38 1 4.22
Yasir 10.0 0 61 1 6.10
Sohail 5.0 0 18 1 3.60

As a Pak Cric Fan, you wanna Laugh or groan?

Amir 9.0 1 45 1 5.00
Junaid 10.0 1 79 1 7.90

same as above. Tells a lot about the selection process of PCB!

People wanted Junaid and now the same people are saying why did the pcb select Junaid. People need to make up their mind.

IN ENGLAND, I doubt any Pakistani pacer can do better than Amir as of now. If he is not the best (suppose Afridi is), he is definitely the 2nd best for an arguement sake.

I have seen both bowling in Eng and Amir makes most bats miss and bowls better lengths

Naseer Hussain was right. Pakistan seem in great form to win the worldcup. Scored 100 in 15 odd overs and bowled out opposition for 270 odd.

Fakhar Zaman out 101 (81b 15x4 1x6) SR: 124.69

Pakistan 157/1 (22.2/50 Overs)

Problem with Fakhar is that when he plays he only plays for a century and not for carrying his bat till the end which he easily can do.

This two should look to win the game for Pakistan here , but in ideal situation the all rounders should be sent up to get some batting practice

If he gets 3 centuries in every 10 innings he plays , he has done enough.

The commentators were mentioning how the Management told Fakhar that he has an over or two to play...

This kind of approach can help Imam against this weak attack , but against International side he cannot escape.

Well he did scored a double hundred. So he has the temperament.

Those were some golden words by Nasser!

Summed up Pakistan Cricket in one sentence.

Yup absolutely!

Nasser has come out with some gems for Pakistani cricket. The above line was a classic.

The other piece of commentary I always remember was in the 2009 T20 WC Semi final. Up until that stage Pakistan had been winning the odd game here, losing the odd game there and relying on other results, whilst SA had reached the semi-final like a well oiled machine & it looked like no one could have stopped them from lifting the cup.

However, during the power play I think Kamran Akmal was batting against Steyn and he smacked him straight back over his head for a six. It was an odd shot, with Akmal not really on his front foot or his back foot. Nasser came out with an absolute gem of a line after that shot as well, which always resonated with me for some reason:

"I guess we've worked out which Pakistan have turned up today! It's the ones to be afraid of!"

Will share the actual clip if I can find it InshAllah, however, in the mean time you can hear the comment by Nasser in the video below at the 15 minute and 40 second mark.

Babar has started playing without arm guard again by the looks of it Mamoon

Only 77 more required , Pakistan should have looked to get this target in 40 overs , just challenge themselves here , that is how you can change your approach

Still 9 overs before we can make that statement, and given how Azam is batting right now wouldn't rule it out.

I would drop Imam, Open with Babar and play Harris at 3 (gives us an extra-spin bowling option)

Shadab Leg spin
Hafeez offie/more of a military medium pacer
Harris conventional left arm spin
Immad Darter

that's a decent spin bowling attack and can give us 20 overs.

Imam needs to work hard. When his S/R drops which shouldnt be happening in the first place ideally, he plays a pressure releasing shot which he hasnt worked upon a lot by the looks of it.

Harris has improved a lot in the last 2 months, the intent seems to be there for him now.

His temperament is good , but I do not think he should be in the Playing XI , he is just there because of his surname. No one can deny that.

Imam gone too for 70 odd, but Babar going great n sarfaraz getting himself some time in middle, bodes well for pakistan

Wonderful words!

Nasser Hussain is one of my all-time favorite commentators.

Thanks for sharing those heavenly words!

The 3rd Warm up game is a T20
Fakhar should be rested, and Babar should open alongside sarfaraz to get some form. We really need our captain to get runs for us at 4.
Asif, Hafeez and Malik should bat at 3,4,5 in that game.

It seems like the think tank has finally realized that anything less than 300 is not enough. Lets see how they do against quality teams.

Btw bro, top notch video!

Beautiful editing skills. :aag

Forgot to write it in my previous reply to your post.

Yes temperament and defensive technique in excellent but his attacking technique especially against good balls leaves a lot to be desired. He needs to work hard on increasing his shots on good balls and strike rotation as well.

He is a decent young talent and to be honest there arent many options amongst openers and in batting as a whole for us so I cant think of many players instead of him.

I would have liked another player in the team who could up the anti even in the middle order while Babar could have opened, but I dont think team management had anybody in mind or had any such plans.

When Fakhar clicks we get good score, besides that Babar has now become more refined. So two of our top 3 are in compliance with the world standards. Only one of Harris and Imam can play.

I would like Babar to impose himself on the opposition in the PP as an opener by playing rolling shots, which would allow us to accelerate at the start. Harris is very very solid, if he can't get us out of a hole at 3 when we lose an early wicket, then I think nobody will (including Babar).
The whole point of saying that Babar shouldn't be exposed to the new ball is absurd.

Yeah i also believe Babar will do well opening too and can utilize powerplays much better than Imam but i think Abid will also do fine and against pace and bounce he will do better than Imam.

I think after his 1st century against Aus Haris has realized that 280 is not an enough score and i have seen him playing with more intent and less fear. Ideally they should score according to the conditions and opposition but i have this feeling that they had a talk about this area that 300 or 300+ is a par score.

It is ridiculous to write off Pak batting because of the UAE pitches.

The outfield is so slow and the pitches don’t suit the batting and the bowling, worst pitches in the world producing dull cricket.

280 there is 310-320 in England, which is a good score.

I think I know what our lineup for the first ODI against England will be:

Fakhar Zaman
Imam ul Haq
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail
Sarfraz Ahmad
Imad Wasim
Asif Ali / Mohammad Hafeez
Faheem Ashraf
Hasan Ali
Shaheen Shah Afridi
Muhammad Hasnain

Poor chase to be honest - you don't chase "methodically" against Northants (& probably their reserve attack). Would have loved to see the target being hunted rather than chased.

Also, not sure why Sarfraz should promote himself at 4, instead of Asif - 4 is not his regular (or assigned) spot and being Captain, I hope he is not in a stress to prove himself with bat against Northant reserves.

I believe with the following top 5 we will score good scores in the tournament:
Fakhar
Abid
Babar
Haris
Sarfaraz

An Imad is in great form too so i wont mind him being promoted at no 6 and Asif at no 7. Or Hafeez at 6 and Imad at 7.

It's better to come up with a process and try to refine that inorder to achieve more consistent results. So its a good chase. And Sarfraz hasn't had a lot of time in the middle with the bat, it's good that he's giving himself time as well rather than just taking care of other players. That's why his batting has regressed.
