17 runs... I'm glad we took it deep.

From where we were, this was an 180 all out situation in days gone by. Carrying some passengers in our line up with bat and ball. Shadab. Don't even mention him. Useless.
 
SA are certified minnows for even letting us back in the game, never mind the cheap stunts like Qdk pulled there.

It's going to create more debate, but what QdK did was fine. There are no fixed lines, but I do believe it's within the spirit and the laws of the game.
 
Don’t see anything wrong with what QDK did. A lapse in concentration from Fakhar. Should have completed the run before turning back.
 
Runout or not - it was inconsequential.

There was no way Fakhar was going to score 29 off 5 balls..
 
Even before today’s inning it was clear Hasnain is a better batsman than Afridi and Rauf. Just shows how clueless the management is that he batted at 11.
 
Can't blame Fakhar too much, he had too much to do at the end. He needed support. As for his run out, he was tired at the end. Happens in a momentary lapse in concentration
 
I don’t blame Qdk,, he outsmarted Zaman. If anything the blame should be on Zaman for falling for something like this.
 
QDK’s wanted his MI captain Rohit Sharma to be the only one with multiple 200s.

Great knock by Fakhar. That was blatant cheating by De Kock for his dismissal. You can't fake dive for the ball so you can't shout where the ball is in an attempt to trick the batter.
 
Dont understand why posters are crying at QDK, did nothing wrong there.
Plus, Pakistan had lost the match, 30 of 5 balls wasn't possible.

You could say QDK stole his double century.

But the match was lost at that point
 
No issue with what QDK did. Naughty but Fakhar needed to be more aware. I'd cut him slack in this case as he was exhausted. Tired minds, tired body.
 
Here is the law on deliberate distraction.

41.5 Deliberate distraction, deception or obstruction of batsman

41.5.1 In addition to 41.4, it is unfair for any fielder wilfully to attempt, by word or action, to distract, deceive or obstruct either batsman after the striker has received the ball.

41.5.2 It is for either one of the umpires to decide whether any distraction, deception or obstruction is wilful or not.

41.5.3 If either umpire considers that a fielder has caused or attempted to cause such a distraction, deception or obstruction, he/she shall immediately call and signal Dead ball and inform the other umpire of the reason for the call.

41.5.4 Neither batsman shall be dismissed from that delivery.

41.5.5 If an obstruction involves physical contact, the umpires together shall decide whether or not an offence under Law 42 (Players’ conduct) has been committed.

41.5.5.1 If an offence under Law 42 (Players’ conduct) has been committed, they shall apply the relevant procedures in Law 42 and shall also apply each of 41.5.7 to 41.5.9.

41.5.5.2 If they consider that there has been no offence under Law 42 (Players’ conduct), they shall apply each of 41.5.6 to 41.5.10.

41.5.6 The bowler’s end umpire shall

award 5 Penalty runs to the batting side.

inform the captain of the fielding side of the reason for this action and as soon as practicable inform the captain of the batting side.

41.5.7 The ball shall not count as one of the over.

41.5.8 Any runs completed by the batsmen before the offence shall be scored, together with any runs for penalties awarded to either side. Additionally, the run in progress shall be scored whether or not the batsmen had already crossed at the instant of the offence.

41.5.9 The batsmen at the wicket shall decide which of them is to face the next delivery.

41.5.10 The umpires together shall report the occurrence as soon as possible after the match to the Executive of the offending side and to any Governing Body responsible for the match, who shall take such action as is considered appropriate against the captain, any other individuals concerned and, if appropriate, the team.

Speaking of which, the incompetency of the management is evident in the way they’ve set up the tail. Hasnain has scored 44 against a decent England bowling line up recently. On what basis was he sent behind Shaheen and Rauf?

Exactly. Not sure what the complain is about, it was totally fair and it was Fakhar’s fault but will give him the benefit of doubt for lapse on concentration. Shouldn’t have laughed at him though.
 
The pointing and laughing at Fakhar is unbelievable after denying him a double century. The guy who humiliated your bowlers to score 190+ and who you couldn't even get out properly and played one of the finest fighting innings (and highest score chasing) in ODI history, so you're pointing and laughing at him after tricking him into getting run out.

Is the management blind....can't see Faheem Hasnain r better bats than Shadab Saheen.......

Any decent coaching staff would turned these Fakhar Hasnains raufs Haiders into world beaters..... It is shameful we keep changing and chopping players but has all the trust of the world on Misbah

Sad display of sportsmanship from QDK and the SAF commentators after a guy single-handedly tore apart their team.

Fakhar is a must for this ODI team.

If this happens during a final of a major ICC tournament, there will be a lot of talk about it.

It's best to fix such issues right now.

I think it should be handled with a warning.
 
Fakhar is the pride of Pak. What a breath taking innings!!!

Pakistan lost because of Asif Ali,Danish and Shadab.Haider Ali should have replaced Asif and Sarfraz should have played instead of Danish.Pakistan needs a good spinner who can bat a bit so Shadab can be dropped.Kanrsn Ghulam who has been scoring lots of runs in domestic was not even considered.

What exactly is wrong with that ? I would blame the batsmen for getting fooled and casually strolling into his crease in a WC final
By that logic we should make reverse sweeps, slower balls etc illegal ..

It's a sporting competition where teams as playing to win - it's not primary school. What QDK did was smart and very much within the laws of the game. The batsman is responsible for having game awareness, the oppositi is not there to help him.

What will you ban next? Slower balls? Because you are deceiving the batsman?

It's not within the new laws

Your reasoning is quite pathetic to say the least.

If what QDK did was legal, it would mean that wicketkeepers, bowlers, and fielders could well trick the batsmen on the pitch to make as many mistakes as possible. Would you want to see a sport where batsmen need to constantly worry about factors apart from batting itself? Is cricket now going to be a crossword puzzle?

Let's say this.

Batsman #1 hits the ball through the covers and the fielder jumps on the ball. He acts as if the ball went to the boundary and hides the ball in his shirt, only to throw it at the stumps when the batsmen take a single.

The point is that why would you need to resort to such cheap, belittling methods to get a win?

This event needs to be looked into.

Non sequitur, that based on those 3 boundaries ppl say he wud have won.

Your logic is baffling.

Deception with the tools of the game, the bat and ball, nobody is talking about that.

Stick to the subject of the fielding team deceiving a batsman.

The only point people in the counter argument bring is "what if we ban XYZ"?

The frame of mind regarding this offense should be looked into. In no way, shape, or form, should the fielding team be able to resort to tactics such as distracting a batsman on purpose.

In order to cheat deceive u need brilliant presence of mind too.....even Dhoni did this some times.......we go gaga over that.....but in a plan language it's blatant cheating.....anyways......

He had smashed 44 against England in England...don't know why guys r not taking his hitting ability seriously atleast they could have shown similar excitement as they have shown for Shadab

South Africa held their nerves in a pressure game as they defeated Pakistan by 17 runs to level the series 1-1 despite a herculean effort of 193 from Fakhar Zaman, who stretched the match till the last over.

South Africa posted a daunting total of 341/6 after being put in to bat, thanks to half-centuries by Quinton de Kock (80), Temba Bevuma (92), Rassie van der Dussen (60), and David Miller (50*). Then early blows from Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi put the hosts in a commanding position, notwithstanding Fakhar Zaman’s solitary retaliation.

South Africa got off to a steady start despite the new ball making the openers dance. Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock put up an opening partnership of 55 runs, with Markram (39) finding a rhythm and doing the majority of the damage. He sent the ball into the stands as he played a lofted drive for a six in the 10th over but got caught on the very next ball off Faheem Ashraf.

Temba Bavuma then joined de Kock at the crease. Bavuma was chocked with dot balls but didn’t give in to the Pakistan pace attack even when Babar kept the fielders up in the 30-yard circle to keep the pressure up.

de Kock chopped one on the stumps after a sublime inning of 80 off 86 balls that was studded with 10 fours and a six becoming Haris Rauf’s first victim —breaking the second-wicket partnership of 114 runs between the two that laid down a strong foundation for the Proteas to aim for a 300+ total.

Bavuma rose to the occasion with well-paced innings of 92 runs in 100 balls after finding himself stumbling in the beginning with just seven runs in his first 21 balls.

Van der dussen followed his centurion performance with another half-century in this match. Dussen started his innings directly in the fifth gear — 60 in 37 balls laced with six fours and four sixes. Bavuma and van der Dusssen added 101 runs for the third-wicket before the latter was dismissed by Mohammad Hasnain (1/74).

Subsequently, Bavuma was sent back to the dressing room in the nineties by Haris Rauf (3/54) after getting caught at mid-wicket by Babar Azam.

A vintage David Miller came in blazing with a fiery knock of 50* in just 27 balls to finish the South African innings on 341/6, taking 19 runs off Shaheen Afridi in the final over.

Pakistan commenced their chase stuttering with Imam-ul-Haq (5) back in the pavilion to Lungi Ngidi (1/66) in the second over. Babar joined forces with Fakhar Zaman to set a foundation for the chase. The two added 63 runs for the second wicket but Anrich Nortje (3/63) snared the wickets of Babar (31), Mohammad Rizwan (0), and Danish Aziz (9), reducing the visitors to 85/4.

Being forced into rebuilding, Fakhar found himself alone, losing partners consistently at the other end. The lower middle-order consisting of Shadab Khan (13), Asif Ali (19), and Faheem Ashraf (11) couldn’t hold the port from their side for long, increasing the pressure on Fakhar to stand vehemently at the crease.

Fakhar fuelled the fires of hope in the Pakistan camp to almost bring the visitors home but his gruelling knock 193 off 155 deliveries came to an anti-climatic end with a run-out from Aiden Markram.

South Africa eventually won by 17 runs, squaring the series 1-1.

Fakhar was awarded the Player of the Match for his spectacular knock that was studded with 18 fours and 10 sixes and is now the highest individual score at the Wanderers.

The final match of the series will be played on 7 April, Wednesday.

JOHANNESBURG: Half-centuries by Quinton de Kock, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller helped the Proteas draw level at 1-1 in their three-match series against Pakistan after winning the Betway Pink One-Day International by 17 runs in Johannesburg on Sunday.

However, victory did not come without drama after a devasting 193 by Fakhar Zaman threatened all the way for the tourists until he was finally run-out in the final over in a chase of 342 at the Imperial Wanderers Stadium.

The opener plundered 10 sixes and 18 fours in a 155-ball assault – a fixture record between the sides and the highest individual score at the venue, beating the 175 by Herschelle Gibbs in the famous 438 match of 2006.

South Africa had earlier produced a fine all-round batting performance, which was lead by their top-scoring captain, Bavuma, who struck 92 off 102 balls (9 fours).

Opener De Kock returned to form at the top of the order with 80 (86 balls, 10 fours, 1 six), while Van der Dussen continued his scintillating form from match one where he scored a century, by blasting 60 off 37 balls (6 fours, 4 sixes).

David Miller then provided the final flourish with an unbeaten 50 off 27 balls (3 fours, 3 sixes) – the hosts amassing 341 for six after losing the toss and being asked to bat first.

Pakistan then fell into huge trouble in their reply after slumping to 120 for five, before Fakhar kept the South Africans on their toes until he finally fell.

The result means the series will now be decided when the final match is played in Centurion on Wednesday.

A fixture that is usually amongst the country’s sporting highlights did not feel the same without fans at the Bullring, but nonetheless produced fine cricket between two evenly-matched sides.

De Kock and Aiden Markram (39) put on 55 for the opening wicket, with the former then adding 114 for the next wicket alongside Bavuma.

A further 101 followed between the skipper and Van der Dussen, before Miller exploded at the death to help the hosts post their third-highest score against the Asian side. Haris Rauf was the pick of the bowlers with three for 54.

Pakistan only really looked a threat when Fakhar and captain Babar Azam (31) were going early on when they reached 70 for one in the 11th over.

Anrich Nortje (3/63) subsequently claimed three wickets to leave then suddenly reeling at 85 for four, before more trouble followed when Shadab Khan was dismissed by Tabraiz Shamsi (1/60) for 13.

Asif Ali (19) initially helped revive things with a 66-run sixth-wicket stand, but two more quick wickets appeared to put the Pakistanis on the brink on 205 for seven.

But Fakhar had other ideas from there, farming the strike in stands of 68 with Shaheen Shah Afridi (5) and 39 for the ninth wicket with Haris. The star man finally fell when he was run-out by a direct Markram hit at the start of the final over when 32 were needed, handing the Proteas victory.
