Share the details of which famous people you have met, where you met them and what were they like?

Ive met most of the Pakistani cricketers and they were all amazing especially Umar Gul and Younis.

Real bad apples were Kaneria ( I think he was shy because he stutters a bit), Sami was rude, Afridi was also quite aloof, Inzi seemed angry amd a few others.

Steve Redgrave was really nice and humble.

The rapper Giggs was also pretty cool and I've with Rza and Raekwon from the Wu-Tang Clan. Rza is a deep guy but quite contradictory lol

Met Inzi, Gul and Younis Khan at Clydesdale CC when they toured Scotland in 06. Fell in love with YK after he signed my bat.

Met Inzi again Pollock CC in 09, could barely recognise him as he’d lost a lot of weight.

Inzi doesn’t really speak much, YK is the complete opposite.

Sports wise: Met and played against Waqar, Wasim, Amir Sohail, Garner, Botham, Flintoff. Strauss and on and on and so on.

Very fortunate that Dave English was the President of my club and I was captain of one of the sides and hence on the board so got to spend a lot of time in his company.

Played one or two friendly games with Morgan too when he would turn up for our club.
Really nice guy, was very young at the time and just started playing for middlesex second eleven.

Between 2002 and 2005 Afridi would turn up each year for our event and deposit the ball regularly into the street...

Took part in both Imran Khan charity matches in the 1990's (1992 & 1993) that took place at Crystal Palace. Was ball boy/12th man/general dogs body.

During these games Spent time in the changing rooms where both sets of players mingled. played one bounce with Sachin, Miandad, Gavaskar etc in the changing room. It was pretty much the entire 1992 Pakistan squad plus India's first eleven which included Kapil and Gavaskar.

In the second match came on as 12th man and took a steepling catch which was shown on one of the Asian channels... the great Henry Blofeld was commentating when I took it
Have it somewhere on video tape...

All the players above were fantastic...
The Indian and Pakistani players were really close and fooled around a lot.
There was genuine friendship and the Indian players were happy to help IK in his quest to build the first cancer hospital in Pakistan.

Met Jimmy Adams at a car rental place ...really nice guy...had a nice chat about Windies cricket and the board...and I met Alec Stewart at a chippy ...

Worked as a charity fundraiser when I was younger and used to see quite a few celebs out and about ...Lisa from Eastenders was quite rude ...I actually managed to stop and have a convo with Alesha Dixon ...lovely lady ...I was in London a few months later and saw her walking down Oxford Street ...she saw me and recognised me which was nice ...

I actually went to school with Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony) ...we didn’t get on though ...took me a while to recognise him on GOT ...

Shoaib Malik is the nicest guy you'll ever meet.

Really? He was nice and promised me some free Pakistani team merchandise (which I didn't even ask for) but to this day I am waiting for it :))

My main interaction with famous people has been with the Pakistani cricket team, as I've been lucky enough to spend time with them when they've come to England.

Shaheen Shah Afridi is a really good lad. He's incredibly polite and humble. With most of the Pakistani players, they're nice but they wait for you to speak to them. They won't initiate a conversation. Shaheen is the opposite and was like Usman bhai come let's have a chat. I found that quite endearing because he's the big star and has millions of fans, yet he's humble enough to actually take an interest in my average life! Hours later when it was time to go, I was thanking him and he just started laughing saying why on earth are you thanking me. Says a lot about his character.

My experience with other players has been mixed. Fakhar for example was nice but I think he took offence when we were discussing his recent performance and I brought up a game he had performed badly. I didn't say it in a silly or arrogant way and he too didn't react harshly, but the fact that he just left after that when I knew he had intended to stay, well I felt bad!

Wahab has some sort of split personality. He's all smiles in an interview but when you talk to him, he has a face like thunder.

Imam was a nice guy but didn't say much. Asif Ali was nice but really quite.

Shadab was just really happy and enjoying himself. It was great to see that constant smile!

And Hafeez thinks he's a comedian with his dad jokes :)). E.g. I passed him my phone to take a selfie of us - he takes one look at it and goes, "camera tau on kar leh teh, ya woi be meh he karhoin" :))

You seem to have been one level before professional level in the cricketing world. Good for you.

No not really.
Our club would have a benefit day for a Middlesex player every year and all the very best county and international players would turn up to support... as members of the club we would get to play with and against these players.

However we would also play weekday games against various wondering sides which often included international players, largely from India.

One person who was a real disappointment was Brian Lara.

Rather than behave professionally at a function that he was being paid a lot to attend, he seemed to be more interested in getting drunk and getting friendly with the hostesses.

I met him at Lord's also at a match that he was watching. He was in the lift and I got in it too. He looked at me as if to say, how dare you get in the lift with me.

Plenty of sportsman esp boxers.

But no.1 Imran Khan, nobody will ever come close. This was before he was PM, such a charasmatic fella with a very strong handshake. He even signed me a personal message. Legend :)

I have never met anyone genuinely famous bar Jackie Smith, ex Home secretary and she was very down to earth. I have met minor celebs like ex Alibion Manager Keith Downing and spoke to him a few times as our sons played together in the same cricket team. I spoke to him at great length and he was just brilliant. Such a nice guy with no hangups and just discussed football like I was friend. He was badly hurt on how the Albion treated him.

I have met many famous Pakistani politicians and sportsmen in a small gathering , in someone's house or in their office , including

Sportsmen -IK, Miandad, Akram,

Politicians 1-IK, Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif , Musharaf.

Not very impressed with Musharaf and Nawaz ( really a dump person, not very sharp )

IK was very impressive to talk to. Shehbaz's wok ethics impressed me . We set a meeting with him when he was Punjab PM, it was related to come medical project. He gave us 7-30 AM time which was unusual for politician and he was there at 7-30 with all his team. But, I know he is a corrupt politician too.

Shehbaz Sharif is one of the most dedicated and hardworking politicians in Pakistan if not the most.

When he was CM Punjab, he would almost work round the clock and was known to have meetings even at 4 am in the morning and was always punctual.

If he was the party leader, things would have been very different. He is far better than Nawaz.

As far as corruption is concerned, no one is a saint. PTI is full of corruption as well.

Yes, the prince is notoriously obnoxious. Have met him twice, once in LA and once in Trinidad (he hosts a big carnival party). Cold both times, and looking to get cozy with the ladies in a sleazy way.

Chacha cricket was really nice
Tim Bresnan absolutely rude. No manners refuses to even acknowledge an attempt at hello or conversation. Acted like I was part of the floor. More stories have come out of him and he's a pretty rude character

Fakhar Zaman and Younus Khan were the nicest I've met.

I met Misbah up Haq in the business lounge of Lahore airport after our flights were delayed. He was cordial and spoke to me for a bit. This is years before he was captain (2009).

I was on a flight with Afridi and I didn't even bother approaching him as he was stand offish (a white guy tried to take a pic with him and he seemed annoyed).

Ran into some NHL players but doubt you guys would know any of them.

I have met Saqlain Mushtaq, Saeed Anwar & Junaid Jamshed when they came with Tablighi Jamat to UK in 2006.
Also met actors from the Ertugral Series Reshad Strik who plays Claudius & also worked in Hollywood top guy loves cricket.
Also met Abdal Rahman & Melikshah from Ertugral Series.

You're right , he was different from other Pakistani politicians and administrator , I was impressed. Coming from US, he looked like a very profession CEO from a large US company to meant business and no **.

I think it's culture difference, getting drunk and a little too close with the ladies is a pretty common theme at most "black" parties; I think they tend to be very open about stuff a lot of us Eastern people don't like. In the west, black guys are seen as "players" but in eastern cultures it's just straight up badtameezi.

He may have good work ethic but his governance and decision making was poor, from what I've heard he functioned as more of a Mayor of Lahore than the Governor of Pakistan's largest province (by population). Apparently he neglected most parts of Punjab and was interested in big infrastructure that could attract attention.

Yes, at end of the day, he was not able to do anything significant in Punjab during his long tenure when was the king. Corruption was law of the land, particularly his son was behaving like new Zardari.

That's the issue in Pakistan; democratically elected representatives are supposed to govern not rule.

True, though I'm pretty comfortable with the western lifestyle of drinking, etc. Yet, it was offensive even to me given how forward/pushy he was with women. (I totally get you need game to pick up the ladies, but this was a little distasteful).

Nevertheless, still the most eye catching batsman to ever play the game!

"Game" would be considered crass and disrespectful in eastern cultures.

Met Gordon Ramsey. Very polite, intelligent, considered fella.

Where is our brother from Heathrow, moiez_no1? I am sure he has plenty of stories to tell :)

I miss his regular pictures with celebrities and sports people. I wonder how is doing now.

I met Razzaq at a friend's flat in Gulshan E Ravi Lahore. Very humble and down to earth person.

I've been lucky to meet Waqar Younis quite a few times and must say what a gentleman he is.

No big ego, warm, friendly and has some great stories to tell about his career.

A friend of mine was the practice bowler for the Pakistan team during the last world Cup in India and he said Waqar Younis was awesome in treating him well and coaching him to improve his fast bowling even though he was a random practice bowler.

I saw him once too when I went to pick up my wife, didn't have time to say hello

Well I have meet many world leaders due to my previous job at the UN. Will leave them out as the list would be very long.
Meet Muhammad Ali when in 1984 maybe, He came to my school to prompt a drink called klim ( milk). I think I even touched him. Our that’s my story. He was very polite and charismatic.
Meet jehangir khan as he came to a dinner party At my uncles home. My uncle performed a surgery on him. Top class fella
Meet the whole pakistani cricket team multiple years and times in Sharjah. My uncle was head of security for marbella country club and all the night time Cricket events were held there. Imran khan was very cold and elusive. Miandad was very talkative .Wasim akram was just a teenager I think when I first meet him. He was with the Benjamin sisters ( socializing).
Meet Tommy Morrison the bóxer a few times. I Was dating his cutmans daughter . Tommy was one of the rudest person I have ever meet.
In 2000 there was a double wicket tournament In jersey and later a fashion show. Meet akram( was very jolly). Must has smoked 3 cigs while I had a chat with him. Was very friendly. Also meet azhar mehmood and shahid afridi ( very rude). Sat at the dinner table and meet Arvinda De Silva ( class act). Chisti mujaheed the legendary commentator was sitting next to me and we were the only two Pakistanis at the table. Lovely man. Talked to him for hours. Phil simones was also at the table. Very rude character.
Meet nawaz sharif at the Roosevelt years ago. Found him to be the most characterless, boring,, unintelligent world leader I have every meet. I have meet many at the UN. He was by far the most unimpressive.

Interesting to note how everyone who met Nawaz Sharif thinks very low of his intelligence. And he has been the PM of Pakistan 3 times.

I met Razzaq at a friend's flat in Gulshan E Ravi Lahore. Very humble and down to earth person.

lol. Don't make me tell you Razzaq stories please. He's far from being down to earth. Trust me on this.

I've actually partied with Shoaib Akhtar, Razzaq and Sarfraz Ahmed. Won't divulge any details. Just to add this was before Sarfraz became a permanent name in the Pakistani line up and after Akhtar had already retired.

Cricket:
Met pretty much the all the regulars of the Pakistani team from 2003 to 2007. And Saeed Anwar through a tableegh event which I was dragged to with laalach of meeting cricketers. Most were nice and good natured except saeed Anwar actually who seemed a bit smug about his religiosity. Shahid Afridi was a highlight. I’d met him 3-4 times in a period of about two years and surprisingly he recalled me on one of the occasions. Really meets achi tarah. Same for Rashid Latif.

From non Pakistanis met Ganguly and Kaif when they toured in 2004. Kaif especially just seemed happy to be there lol and was asking about Pakistani food and whatnot. Ganguly was a bit uncomfortable talking to a 12-13 year old boy. Just took pic and asked how you doing and left.

Asides from that met Pollock and Kallis who were both happy to walk across to the boundary rope and take a pic. This was a practise game.

Non-cricket:
Met Musharraf. No talk. Seemed nice enough.

Rick Santorum. Most people wouldn’t know here but he’s a politician who ran for President. Well spoken guy and asked about school and how he can engage students for his candidiacy. Funny story but at end I told I’m an international lol so he probably thought he wasted his time.

One more random one. Jaime Alexander. Again people won’t know her but she was in Thor and also Kyle XY. Apparently she was trying to go under a disguise (terrible one at that) in NYC and I was just chatting with her and it just clicked midway in the conversation. Funny moment. But she’s not big celebrity for me to go WOW. Tbh I don’t even think she would’ve been bothered too much anyway and probably didn’t need a disguise to begin with.

Guess I was mistaken.

Kevin Owens, Mandy Rose, Stacy Keibler, Joe Calzaghe, Carl Froch, Amir Khan and Wasim Akram.

All were pretty chill apart from Froch (expected), the most hilarious one was Joe Calzaghe, chased him through Bull Ring with a group of lads for a photo 😁 this was around 2007/08 in his twilight, but got those elusive names on his resume in USA

Lol why would you do that? Not just celebs, no one likes to be asked about their failures or bad decisions by random dudes. Pretty decent of Fakhar to actually being so calm and composed throughout the interaction.

Don't get me wrong, I don't know you, you may be a journalist or a bigshot yourself with a lot of contacts within your team. They point I am trying to make is you should not have brought his performance into discussion in front of his teammates, that was quite rude of you. Athletes are real people with real feelings.

BTW that Hafeez bit was really funny.

One of the rudest and most ignorant people I ever met was Clive Lloyd, the West Indian skipper.

We were at Edgbaston during the Champions Trophy and he was basically there just to make money by asking media if they wanted to interview him. Anyone that showed any interest he would start saying I am a legendary cricketer, when I talk the world listens, don't you know who I am, you have to pay me a lot of money.

Not one media person actually interviewed him as everyone was just shocked at his behaviour and attitude.

Really Clive ? I meet him here in NYC when he came for the opening of Fire in Babalyon. He was very professional and approachable.

Not surprised about Froch at all haha. Calzaghe is a legend, and great to hear you saw him in my neck of the woods! How was Joe?

You played Finchley 1s?

Wow

No..
Third eleven captain and Sunday league captain.
The odd second eleven game.

The first eleven throughout the 80's and 90's were on a different level.

Nice man, great cricket club to be a part of. You must have wonderful memories playing all of your cricket in the north of london. Very charming area. We love the away fixtures to the clubs there, some of the best in London by a country mile!

I know what you are saying, but I wasn't being rude. My comment wasn't made in a derogatory way, it was more like oh x and y performances were great, it didnt go so well against the Windies, what happened there? And his reply was bas yaar kabhi hoin jatha hain aysa. So it wasn't maliciously done. These things happen and Fakhar seems like a reserved guy so he unfortunatley took it to heart. I didn't mean to do that but at the same time, I'm sure a comment from a random dude didn't keep him awake at night!

Also, I'm no journalist or a bigshot. The Pakistani boys are far more approachable than people think. Yes I met them through a personal connection but they didn't know me and they didn't have to give me the time of day. But they were on the whole extremely welcoming as a bunch.

Hafeez is definitely a character :))

I'm pretty shocked knowing that. Least expected from a guy like Clive Lloyd.

I would’ve be surprised If he had 4am meetings tho so very believable. Shehbaz Sharif was the king of such gimmicks.

He's a fraud. I know first hand how pathetic his 'work is'. I'm not bragging my family has a lot of reach in Lahore. But even we struggled to move a couple of cases because Shehbaz appointed men would brag they're appointed by him and need favors ie money otherwise it's hard to be 'motivated on normal salary'.

I know plenty of bureaucrats in Lahore because my father was also a bureaucrats. This 4 am meetings are true, and he would actually arrange them on the spot so you were expected to answer his secretary’s call in the middle of the night and also arrive on time.

Gimmick or not, his hard work is praised by everyone. Nawaz is too lazy to care about gimmicks. Shehbaz has a very different personality and is much more like their father who was also a workaholic.

My nephew who is a MIT graduate, took a group of from his school to pakistán some years back. They meet all the important politicians. . He is a die hard PTI. But he said he was very impressed with shebaz and his command of the language. Said nawaz was a total paindo. Did not meet zardari.

El Hadji Diouf - Seemed nice enough to take a picture. I was a kid so I only asked for a picture.

Siakam - Very nice and humble. Also agreed to pose for a picture.

Mark Cuban - Seemed like a jovial good guy. Said hi to me when he walked into the washroom. Later had a minute long chat and was very nice about.
