Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said on Saturday that the PTI-led government aims to turn Pakistan into a technological superpower within the next 10 years.

According to the federal minister on Twitter, the Ministry of Science and Technology adopted ‘Made in Pakistan’ projects under the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“In Pakistan, sanitisers and masks were either not found or being (sold in) black (illegally),” said the federal minister, adding that the country is not only fulfilling its needs now, it is exporting these in millions.

He said that Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad will be turned into special economic zones. In the next phase, a 200-acre health city will be built in Faisalabad, he added.

In the economic zones, the technology industry and businesses will be granted special privileges, said the minister.

The minister, in his social media message, also urged international companies to work in the country, assuring them of a competitive environment and 'relaxed tax structure'.

In sha Allah.

The potential is there and if people can work with «imaandari» this can be a reality. But they need focus a lot more on education, healthcare and the security of the citizens.

It is awesome to see Pakistan taking science and technology seriously. This is happening for the first time.

For all the hate that Fawad gets(i know he behaves like ***** sometimes), he seems to be doing quite a decent job, Kodus to all the workers as well who are making this possible. The start has been quite optimistic, let's hope it goes on like this

Gotta love South Asian politicians. The future is always full of castles in the air, while the present is a swamp.

PS: "Mujhe Vote Do!"

Dabbu is doing some good work, but if only he keeps his mouth shut for a bit it will do him a world of good.

Pakistan going from importing hand sanitizers, PPEs, masks and ventilators before the pandemic and now in a position to export them are in part through his efforts. Also he is going full steam towards agricultural drones. That would be amazing.

Pakistan doesnt need his statements to become the best - it will happen when things are in control and corruption low. Simple.

A vision without a plan is just a dream
hope there is a solid plan on how he is going to achieve this in next 10 years.
Otherwise these seem like statements given for political leverage
Anyway good luck and best wishes

After the grand success of "India suppapawa by 2020", we now have "Pakistan suppapawa by 2030". :)

I wish Mr. Fawad Chaudhry all success.

A technological superpower Pakistan will be in everyone's interest, including India's.

All politicians exaggerate. It wont help in elections saying, we will a very minor improvement in our manufacturing abilities.

I needed a laugh. You can always count on Fawad Chaudhry to crack a good joke.

Refreshing to see a Pakistani politician at least having a vision about science and technology rather than the stereotypical statement of restoring Akbar or Aurangazeb regime or conquests of some Arab and Turkish king/invader/looter.

Refreshing to see an Indian not refer to Aurangzeb as a Turk.

Every government has been giving such time frames. Since Fawad was part of those governments its probably all talk. When this happens, it will there for everyone to see, don’t think people will need the live commentary of Federal Minister for Science and Technology to notice that.

Promote the local software industry to generate annual exports of at least US$ 10 billion by 2020:

No harm in dreaming big.... He is showing performance to, recently Pakistan went from importing ventilators to making their own and he was directly responsible for that happening.

Thats a great achievement, however because of his comments which all politicians make, PTI haters will judge PTI on whether Pakistan is about to be a tech superpower. That is not possible anytime soon, but Pakistan definitely appears to be going in the right direction.

He didn't exactly mean it in a way it has been translated.

'dus saal mein Pakistan ko technology superpower bunnana asal manzil hai'

What so wrong in having a lofty manzil?

I'm sure when America planned to put a man on the moon people at that time must have thought what a stupid and impossible goal.

10 years might be too short but if the intent and direction is there, there is nothing preventing Pakistan from reaching Vietnam, Taiwan level in 15-20 years.

Chaudhry saab hath hola rakho.

Next government will shred your special cities and zones into little pieces if you guys lose next elections. This guy shouldn't be taken seriously anyway. But we can dream big :yk

Chaudhry saab should pressure the PM to fix police, judiciary, health and education on emergency basis and then dream of teknalagy supapawa.

For example: they have been in power for 2 years now and they've done absolute zilch to enroll millions of kids into schools.

It took a fricikin airplane crash to realize that we have dubious pilots.

When will Sheikh Rasheed the ultimate lota will resign?

Fix these issues first, Chaudhry saab.

With an aim to turn Pakistan into a technological giant, Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain is keen to develop its own smart cricket balls.

The minister called on the sports goods manufacturers of Sialkot, a city known globally for its sports products to have a joint project with the technical universities of the country to develop this product.

“Sialkot walas lets do that shouldn’t be a problem ... let us do a joint project with technology universities and create own smart cricket ball...” tweeted Chaudhry on Monday, while sharing video footage of the smart cricket ball developed in Australia.

A smart cricket ball, developed by the Australian ball manufacturer Kookaburra, looks like your regular cricket ball, but at its core is a specially designed microchip, which can withstand the gruesome bowling and whacking from the bat. The product has the ability to deliver instant statistics on speed - at release point, pre-bounce and post-bounce that is more detailed and accurate than the existing radar technology.

The ball is also capable of measuring revolutions at the same points, which is especially useful when it comes to spinners. It can also help in making better umpiring decisions by showing whether a ball has definitively hit the bat or the grass, in the case of catches that are too close to call.

Last year a Pakistani startup created an AI driven smart wicket. There was no visible support from his ministry or PCB

Problem is PTI's statements end up hurting them more so than their under-performance in some areas of governance. Even if they just post statistics and say nothing for a few weeks, it'll be more impactful than these big statements.

Although I full understand there is an audience yearning for these and this is just a bit if fan service for the most passionate of Insafians.

A general look at the financial statistics comparing the 1st 2 years of IK govt. with the others will make PTI's progress and achievements so far very clear. We basically need a CNN type of channel that lives and dies by statistics and polls.

Fawad is doing a commendable job. Now, we know that Pakistan has a science and technology ministry.

At least try to start a tech sector before talking about becoming a superpower. They've blocked services like Paypal which makes it so difficult for our freelancers to get paid. PTA and other technology related government institutions need massive reforms.

We don't even have stable internet yet and he's talking about becoming a superpower.

No one has blocked paypal. Paypal doesn’t want to come to Pakistan because of a perceived lack of transparency in our financial system.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, said on Monday that the drones which are fully capable of monitoring farms and spraying disinfectants over them will revolutionise the field of agriculture and farming.

The federal minister posted on Twitter, sharing a picture of two agricultural drones under the initiative ‘Made in Pakistan’, revealing that they have the ability to spray 16 litres of pesticide for 18 minutes.

Fawad Chaudhry added that earlier, an entire field had to be sprayed but the sensors on these drones detect certain infected patches and spray pesticides on them.

A strong proponent of 'Made in Pakistan' initiative, the federal minister has recently also said that the government intends to turn the country into a 'technological power'.

Strides in the field of electronic devices
Under the 'Made in Pakistan' vision, Chaudhry had said that PM Imran handed over the first batch of local made ventilators to the National Disaster Management Authority last week.

Amid general concern over the healthcare facilities during the pandemic, the PTI minister had vowed in April that the country will soon begin production of ventilators and other safety gear on a local level.

Last month, the minister said that the ventilators were in the final phase of testing while he announced that the government had achieved another landmark as Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) approved the country's first COVID-19 testing kit.

The Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Health had also earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the indigenous development of Electro Medical devices.

PayPal isn't blocked it refuses to come. Despite that Pakistan is number three in freelancing in the world.

Also what did your Mian Sahab do for IT and tech in his three terms? Heck we don't even know who his minister for S&T was.

iirc, Mian sahab reportedly refused a Bill Gates' proposal of IT University in Pakistan.

Indeed you are correct. They refuse to come due to the banking regulations. I guess that's also something we need to fix.

Medical equipment manufacturing zone set up in Faisalabad, tweets Fawad

(Karachi) Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has said a medical equipment manufacturing zone has been set up in Faisalabad.

In a tweet on Sunday, Fawad Chaudhry said local manufacturing of all equipment would greatly reduce medical device imports worth Rs1.4 billion. He added that 200 acres of medical equipment manufacturing zone has been set up in Faisalabad’s Industrial area.

He said, “We will now produce Injections, Canolas, Xray Machines, Heart stents, Dialysis machines in Pakistan.”

Earlier, the minister said that 1,100 ventilators are being produced monthly in the country and a vaccine against COVID-19 is expected to be available by the start of next year. He said Pakistan is also working on local manufacturing of X-ray and dialysis machines.

He said that 30 million syringes will be manufactured locally to administer vaccine of COVID-19. Prime Minister Imran Khan also announced that for the first time in the history of Pakistan, all duties levied on medical equipment imported into the country have been removed.

These include medical equipment/machinery and apparatus like coronavirus detection kits, surgical masks, multimode ventilator with an air compressor, face shields, and other medical equipment.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has joined the list of few countries having the technology to produce heart stents locally after Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the N-Ovative Health Technology Facility at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) today.

The PM Office said that the facility will be the first to locally manufacture cardiac stents, adding that it will also make Pakistan the 18th country in the world to do so.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry had said Pakistan will be taking “another big step” in medical technology with the inauguration of the facility.

“Today, the prime minister is inaugurating [a] heart stents manufacturing [facility] at NUST Science Park,” tweeted the minister. He added that the stents will be produced according to European standards, and would put Pakistan among a group of select countries that can produce stents.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill said that Pakistan would become the 'second Muslim country' in the world and South Asia after Turkey and India, respectively, to produce stents.

“It will save Rs 8 billion annually in foreign exchange. Congratulations to the nation and scientists,” said Gill.
