HBL PSL 2019 opening ceremony artists revealed!

• Internationally renowned pop star Pitbull leads the star-studded artist roster in Dubai
• Pakistan superstar Fawad Khan featuring Young Desi to perform the HBL PSL 2019 anthem
• Legendary Pakistan Sufi-rock band Junoon to add colour to 14 February extravaganza
• Marcia Barrett of the legendary old-school Pop outfit Boney M to grace the opening ceremony stage


Lahore 18, January:

Keeping up the tradition of the last three seasons, the HBL Pakistan Super League is set for another grand opening ceremony.

The Dubai International Stadium would play host to a star-studded evening on 14 February with internationally renowned pop star Pitbull leading the performers’ line-up.

The Florida based singer has become a household name around the world with a number of super hit songs in recent years.

Marcia Barrett of the legendary old-school Pop outfit Boney M will also grace the opening ceremony that will start at 8:00 pm UAE time.

Leading Pakistan Sufi-rock band Junoon is another attraction of what promises to be a memorable evening in Dubai. The band that has made a comeback to mainstream music after a long absence is set to bring incredible energy to the evening in the true HBL PSL spirit.

The opening ceremony would be followed by the opening match of the HBL PSL 2019 between defending champions Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars.

HBL PSL Anthem launch tonight:
The HBL PSL official anthem for the 2019 season will be launched across Pakistan TV channels at 8:55 pm Pakistan Standard Time tonight (18 January).

Pakistan superstar Fawad Khan featuring Young Desi has sung the official anthem (Khel Deewano Ka) which has been produced by renowned music producer Shuja Haider.

Fawad featuring Young Desi are also set to enthral the Dubai audience at the HBL PSL opening ceremony.

SGM Marketing PCB Sohaib Sheikh has made the following statement at the HBL PSL anthem launch.

“With the first three HBL PSL anthems, Ali Zafar did a fantastic job in composing and singing some memorable tunes. Keeping up with the same quality, this year we are proud to announce that Fawad Khan has sung our new anthem with a surprise performance by Young Desi. Composed and produced by Shuja Haider, this anthem will surely rock all the fans to its beat, Khel Deewano Ka.”
 
Pitbull is going to get up on stage, put on a catchy beat, say mr Worldwide few times, then go home and collect a million dollar check.

Pretty much what he’s been doing for years.

Bobby Farell has died. He and the girls were just showmen on the stage. Mostly lip sync. Actual musician was Frank Farian.

Our grounds need funds more than ever, so they can fix their toilets and there attendee seats. And how PCB is wasting thousands of dollars on tamasha just for the first day in a foreign country.

Just checked the PSL theme song 2019, its an indication Ehsan Mani is just throwing money on his favored people and the end result is garbage. Whether its the selection or the PSL arrangement Mani's decisions are staining our cricket.

Can’t see that happening, first it was Sean Paul, then Shaggy, then Jason Derulo, and now Pitbull. So, history tells us that next year it’ll be Tupac Shakur iA
 
I think such events need to have a good start so any sort of ceremony should be good

But I do hope things dont drag out

The HBL Pakistan Super League Artist Press Conference took place at the Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday.

Opening ceremony performers Junoon, Aima Baig, Shuja Haider, Fawad Khan and Young Desi spoke to a packed press conference room

The performers expressed their excitement at the opportunity of performing at the opening ceremony of Pakistan’s biggest sporting brand the HBL Pakistan Super League.

Head of Marketing Pakistan Cricket Board Sohaib Sheikh welcomed the artists at the press conference and spoke about the impact performers have had in some truly memorable HBL PSL opening ceremonies.

Fawad Khan featuring Young Desi and Shuja Haider who have sung and produced the HBL PSL official song “Khel Deewano Ka” spoke about the thrill of producing the song and the incredible opportunity of performing in front of a packed stadium.

Junoon who performed in Dubai last month are a big favourite of the Dubai crowds, the brand that reunited last year will be making their third concert appearance since the reunion.

Junoon has made some iconic inspirational songs related to cricket, lead singer Ali Azmat and band member Salman Ahmed spoke about the band’s passion for the game and expressed their delight at the opportunity of performing at the opening ceremony

Aima Baig who had made a big impression on the Pakistan showbiz scene in recent years also expressed her joy at the chance of performing in the Dubai International Stadium in front of a massive Pakistani audience.

The opening ceremony will start at 8:00 pm and besides the performers will include a series of exciting acts including a grand fireworks display at the end of ceremony.

The six participating teams, franchise owners and management will also assemble at the DIS outfield.

Unless it is Olympics, opening ceremonies are a farce, generally of low quality. Leagues don't need that.
 
Why isn't the opening ceremony taking place in Pakistan?

Edit: I thought the league will take place in Pakistan this time

The aim is to copy IPL in everything instead of taking smart decisions.

Most likely, we aren't getting any of the money back, that was already paid to reserve him.


The part that wasn't paid yet, might be held back. But I'm guessing at least 50% is gone.

PCB Statement

Dubai, 14 February 2019:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today announced that Pitbull will be unable to perform on Thursday evening at the HBL Pakistan Super League 2019 opening ceremony following a technical issue to his aeroplane which was scheduled to transport him into Dubai.

The PCB, along with Pitbull’s management, explored all possible alternate options to transport the team from the stranded airport in Dominica. Unfortunately, the sheer length of the travel required to Dubai did not permit on time arrival for the performance.

Pitbull, in a video message to all his fans in Pakistan and UAE, offered his regrets and said he was looking forward to performing in Dubai. Pitbull further thanked the Pakistan fans and assured them that they will see him soon.

“Obviously, we are sad that Pitbull will not be performing tonight due to no fault of his own. We spoke with him a few times yesterday, and he was devastated as he was looking forward to performing at the opening ceremony.

“The HBL PSL opening ceremony will proceed as planned as it also includes a wide array of top artists. A colorful futuristic extravaganza for Thursday evening has been planned, which will be one of the highlights of the event. The PCB believes the cricket fans will enjoy the evening and play their part in making the event a success,” the PCB said.
 
I mean Pitbull's excuse, really? lol, does he expect peopel to believe that......talk about lame.

Pitbull is a trash performer who ruins every song. PCB needs the top accomplished rappers like Migos, OT Genesis, G-eazy, 21 Savage, Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar et al.

PSL needs a good ceremony to set the scene. We live in 2019 not in 1989.

They need to implement this ceremony in the final in Pak rather than start of PSL.

If Salman Ahmad makes a public appearance and controversy doesn't erupt on Twitter soon after... was it really him that we saw?

Salman's performance with the rest of the Junoon gang was part of the entertainment at the PSL final but were fans satisfied with the reunion? Not quite.

While Junoon performed their hit classics like 'Khudi' on stage, Salman's later appearance confused viewers even more. He was spotted during the national anthem on a raised dais placed smack in the middle of the Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladitar teams, pretend-playing his guitar while the national anthem blared around him.

Many wondered what was the point of the 'unplugged' performance...

But Salman was not having it and went on a defensive spree
