What's new

FC stats: Fawad Alam, Haris Sohail, Usman Salahuddin, Saad Ali, Umar Akmal vs Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali

This isnt unique only to Pakistan, even Ozzie selectors seem to have caught this bug of picking on 'potential' rather than performance.
Unfortunately, potential usually means who's flashy, therefore a Short over a Burns.
Surprisingly, MsK Prasad and the rest of the BCCI crew buck this trend. They have generally given caps to Ranji behemoths like Mankad, Jaffer, Vihari etc.

Don't think they care.

They want stroke makers. I think they said it several times in interviews.

Yeah lets keep on Azhar Ali with an average of 9 as our "best batsman" :sarf2

You have to really suck if even Sarfaraz who himself was woefully out of form and was dismissed THRICE for a duck in the series still managed to outscore you by a WIDE margin.

If Azhar Ali plays another match for Pakistan then may the Lord save us.

Yeah we saw plenty of strokes in SA series..the only problem is that our test matches dont reach day 4 and hence it is pointless to play a spinner...

Seems like people only see technique or the flashy strokes, but forget that Test cricket requires great focus and a good batting temperament more. Fawad Alam ticks all these boxes and that's why he doesn't give away his wicket after being 30 or even 80 not out. Remember Misbah? Same was the case for him. Or even YK who didn't have the best of techniques.

Imam or Babar lose their focus after a hour the reason they average in the 30's in FC in general. They never had the chance to develop these main batting ingredients. I am glad that Babar after almost 25 tests is getting better. It should have been 30/40 FC games instead before making his debut.

There is no problem having an Azhar Ali type batsman (grinder) if he's actually scoring runs and playing long innings consistently.

Currently Azhar is doing neither.

Ball blunting specialists is becoming a thing of the past now. After Cook's retirement, Pujara will probably be the last of this breed. Although I'm not yet sold on him outside Asia (despite his heroic performances in Aus), what I will say is these two were still successful because they still had plenty of scoring options with their range of shots. Salahuddin doesn't seem well equipped whatsoever with his capabilities limited to accumulating time at the crease. For this reason he should not be favoured over Saad Ali, Saud Shakeel and Umar Akmal for batting spots in the test side.

The interesting thing is that the likes of Salahuddin are not one-season-wonders, they have consistently scored heavily in First-class cricket sometimes in very weak batting teams.

Umar Akmal

That's my top 5 for Test going forward all conditions.

Umar numbers are what got him selected for Champions Trophy and for only Mickey to sending him home.

Avg of 45 / SR 75 shows clearly that Akmal jr of the Akmal Bradran is only name worthy 'batsmen' left, around, Azhar n Asads overall game wouldn't even reach the feet of JR and that is life for some.

Right now we aren't even taking matches into the 5th day, and are getting bundled out for less than 200 in almost every game.

How can people still obsess over SRs - for god's sake let's focus on putting decent totals on the board again. Pakistan aren't blessed with many batsmen with an ideal balance between attack and defence. If one or two grinders are what's needed to stabilise this awful batting lineup then so be it.

True Markhor, a good bowling side with a combined average SR of 60 balls per wicket, will take 200 overs to bowl out a side twice.

That still leaves about 250 overs to bat. If you think about it, that means the top 7 batsmen have to bat about 36 overs each, translating into a little over 200 balls.

All you need to pick a test line-up is to ask: can each of these boys play just 200 balls in a row without losing concentration?
If yes, pick them. If no, dump.

Assessing a 40-ball T20 player, for a 200-ball minimum requirement, seems a fool's errand.

Yes I am just about to whatsapp the image to him.

I think it should also be sent to micky because he has this thought, that the best batsmen are sitting in SA and they cannot be dropped.

Good job Saj bhai.. Also tell him about other top domestic performers and young talents batting talents likes of saif badar, saud shakeel, zeeshan malik, etc

Yes he will get it too.

But these guys seem to have their minds already made up about some players.

If they continue to be stubborn and they keep on losing, then their jobs should also be gone.

Hopefully, ehsan mani will take those bold steps, if the current trend continues.

He's being serious. Has done some great things.
PP is one of our few hopes now. Need to use this platform to get try and get rid of the garbage in our side.

Wow that is great. I am new here, so I didn't know that we had contact with people who can send such messages.

That is great to hear, we have a voice somewhere. There are definitely plenty of useless players taking up deserving players spots.

4 bowlers ain’t ideal so a batsman may need to be dropped based on conditions. I think that’s a fresh and solid line up

Ideally we’d replace sarfraz but who takes over?

Lool you’re trolling.

He was in the squad like Saad Ali and Usman. He wasn’t even considered for the team in the playing 11 till the last moment because Harris Sohail got injured and there was no other player to replace him in the team because no middle order batsman was selected. He was FORCED to play due to no option. It wasn’t due to being convinced by captain/selector.

This clearly proves your analysis wrong. Give them chance otherwise there is no way to tell if he is good enough. Sarfraz is no Imran that he has an eye for talent, he himself is big floppy.

Are you denying Shan didnt play before? It was not sarfraz fault he became Anderson bunny. You should be thanking Sarfraz who gave him another chance after he went away and performed again in domestic.
