Seemed reasonable but not express quick - good start and hope he can do better in PSL

Nice yorker by Ilyas almost had Livingstone

looks like another product of the hype machine i am afraid even though it is early days, hope he can prove me wrong

Too short, looks malnurished...and doesnt seem quick enough. I hope he has a good PSL.

Skiddy at best. First time I have seen him and one thing I have learnt is that you can never make a conclusion on first impressions. He may come back with a decent spell in the next match he plays

Is he another u-19 product or just a regional find? Haven't heard of him before.

For me it's all about Arshad Iqbal, M. Hasnain, Naseem Shah and Mohammad Musa.

These are the hyped up guys.

His Run Up and Action is hybrid of Andy Bichel and Bret Lee.

Pacewise more like Bichel atm.

Still 19 so he will improve with time both pace and skillwise.

Some posters are judging a 19 year old just after his first match.

I am a fan of last impressions of player in the tournament then the first ones. If he gets more games then only we should judge him.

I remember how Hassan Ali was considered in his first few matches, Ramiz also said some thing like nothing special when he debuted against Ireland ODI. That guy went onto become man of the tournument in the very first ICC tournament he played. He was 130-35 kph max when he started now the same guy cranks it upto 145 kph.

My point is players develop and improve, saying that a 19 year old is rubbish or poor just after one or few matches is jumping to far ahead with judgements and predictions which later make you biased towards that guy if he turns out to be better then expectations.

Many people still say Fakhar is a hack just bcz they said that when they first saw him and now try to back try statement every time he fails.

The lad is just 19, pretty sure he will be as quick as hasan Ali in coming years, but important thing is whether he has game awareness and can he swing the ball.

Speeds in first over today: 137, 136, 134, 137, 134, 137kph

Needs to set Hasan Ali as a role model as they are similar in height and build when they both started out. Hasan also was in the same pace bracket.

Despite the phainti today, really like the lad. There's a lot to work here.

Agree i was not impressed in his last outing but today he was good. He is rough diamond and inferior version of hasan ali but if he works hard he can become next hasan ali

Reminds me of a legal bowling action James Kirtley from sussex. Not bad tbh. Today's wicket is not a good wicket to judge bowlers on.

If he can produce deliveries like today to Kamran he can be handful

Speed in the 3rd over : ?, ?, ?, 132kph, 92kph, ?

Speed in the 4th over : ?, ?, 107kph, 104kph, 103kph, 134kph

He runs in hard and looks for wickets. But his lack of pace is an issue.

Hassan Ali wasnt much pacy in his first season of PSL but now he cranks it upto 145 kph. So if Ilyas is willing to work hard he can also increase his pace. Already looked more pacy than his first match.

have good bowling action but not good enough that husnain n rauf better investements

The guy is still under 20 years old...this experience will only help him improve his game.

PCB is not yet declared bankrupt, so I think it can invest on 5-6 bowlers for future & question that who is better investment could only be answered after getting output of the investment.

Haris, Hasnain, Ilyas, moosa, Naseem, Ali etc all are impressive & young. If PCB invests in them, 1-2 would definitely come out good.

Mohammad Ilyas made an instant mark in Pakistan’s domestic cricket, taking 10 wickets on his first-class debut against Islamabad for Peshawar last year.

The 20-year-old returned figures of five for 69 and five for 61 for Peshawar versus Islamabad in October last year and then backed it up with figures of four for 69 and five for 44 against Sui Southern Gas Corporation (SSGC) to finish with an impressive 33 wickets in just five games of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2018-19 edition.

He was picked up by Multan Sultans in the HBL PSL 4 and is trying his best to live up to his potential.

“It’s fantastic to be selected in the PSL,” Ilyas said, “I was playing a first-class match during which I got a call from the coach informing that I will be part of the HBL PSL with Multan squad. I then thought my hard work had started to pay-off.”

Ilyas made a mark with his speed and the ability to swing the ball. He has so far managed four wickets in four matches with a best of two for 21 against a formidable Islamabad Unitedbatting line-up.

“It’s been great and everyone in Multan is supporting me and the encouragement is a tonic and I am hopeful that my good performance will help me get a place in the Pakistan team,” vowed Ilyas.

Ilyas said his parents never stopped him from playing cricket.

“My family is religious, but they never stopped me from playing cricket. My father and grandfather are all religious scholars,” said Ilyas. “I am thankful to my elder brothers Saeed-ur-Rehman, Shabbir and Zia as they not only supported me financially but also used to help me get me permission from the parents.”

“My father never stops me, but all the time advises me of hard work.”

Ilyas played his initial cricket in Peshawar and based his bowling on former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif and England’s James Anderson.

“I started playing in club cricket in Peshawar. I had seniors like Rizwan, Iftikhar and had coach in Fazl-e- Akbar, and they guided me well. I was helped by Abdul Rehman and they all guided me so well that I became a good player.”

HBL PSL is Ilyas’s second step and he hopes to shine here and go to higher levels.

Will be very surprised if he plays for Pakistan in the future. Looks like a hard-worker and an intelligent bowler, just don't believe he has the raw tools to have a successful international career.

Give him a couple of PSLs, not everyone makes an instant impact. I remember, even Hasan Ali was a trundler when he first appeared on the PSL scene.

Can't question the lad's levels of effort.

Not as quick as the likes of Rauf or Hasnain but the kid looks like he has the basics and has the ability to bowl some very good deliveries.

Ilyas have produced some really good deliveries to get the wickets of top order batsmen in his last few games

19 year-old Mohammad Ilyas 8 wickets for Multan Sultans at the PSL:
Mohammad Rizwan
Colin Munro
Babar Azam
Umar Akmal
Kamran Akmal
Luke Ronchi
Cameron Delport
Sohail Akhtar

Need to improve and work very hard if he has to make an International debut under such cut throat competition , sadly hes not a natural talent and have to work damn hard in order to attain that level.

Doing well for Sindh with 3 wickets today

From some odd reason i am starting to like him .He looks very accurate and bowl according to plan

Yes he bowls to his fields more often than not and looks like an honest trier in all three facets of the game.

Brilliant work by Ilyas for Multan - but can he defend 5 runs in 2 balls?

I know he conceded a boundary off the final ball of the 20th over but that was a superb over from the young man.

Always impresses me when I watch him bowl.

Impressive today. Multan missed a trick by not bowling him in the Super over after his fantastic last over

Doesn't get the hype but he's been silently doing very well. Averaging 21 in FC, 26 in List A, and 25 in T20s.

Very interesting case. No “x factor”, very modest pace, height, swing and bounce but very accurate. Always bowls economically.

Good man. He’s already more useful than Musa is likely to be right now

Right. Honestly I don't see an extensive international future for him, but he can be a good reserve and a great domestic bowler. Think he'd be a useful bowler in Asia.

Not international material. He has nothing to offer. No height no pace no skill.A nothing bowler but can have a decent PSL career.

He is a good bowler, someone who may not have big 5-fer or 10 wicket hauls, but he always gets a wicket or two. This has been the story throughout his career, even in FC cricket, where he picks 4-5 wickets per game and he's also got three 5-fers in 8 games, which imo is very good returns but very little sample size.

I would like to see him in Pak's Test team in a couple of years from now, he would be what you call a 'proper first change bowler'. Morne Morkel to the trio of Shaheen/Abbas/Naseem :yk

Judging a 19-year old by his first taste of international quality. Where have we seen that before?

He's a good prospect, needs work with bowling coaches about bowling good lengths. I'd keep him in the books for test matches, rotational for Naseem Shah.

A quick comparison with Naseem Shah:

1st class:

Naseem - 15 games, 47 wickets, 3.2 ER, 22.5 average, 42.2 SR (14 overs per innings average)
Ilyas - 8 games, 36 wickets, 3.2 ER, 21.1 average, 39.6 SR (16 overs per innings average)

I think that Ilyas should be given a debut at home against some team like Bangladesh or Sri Lanka just to see what he can give. If he does well, I think that he'd be a good investment, especially if he can bowl more overs. Naseem and Ilyas should be rotated depending on the conditions and opposition once we determine how their bowling is different.

I like him as a bowler. He just needs to add a bit of variety. Sometimes he can be a bit predictable, but that will come with experience.

nothing against ilyas, but naseem's stats include tests too, if u only look at domestic first class he has 31 wickets at an average of 16 i think.
