What's new

First ODI between England and Pakistan abandoned due to persistent rain

Even for such a strong team, Ben Stokes is a HALWA BOWLER.

Ok match reduced to 41 overs.... even less time and even more detrimental is parchee's tuk tuk

Honestly 50 overs was too much for this batting line up anyway when you have Sarfraz and Asif Ali coming in at 5 and 6. It's a T20 batting line up.

We will crawl our way to 220 and England will chase it with 7-8 overs to spare.... but atleast parchee would have gotten a selfish 70-80 odd that's all that matters.

Some selectors are present here in pp
They will select Rohits, Warners and Roys from Chai ki dokan, Biryani ki dokan etc

According to some, In Pakistan, every player who has been ignored by the selectors is world class.

Every poster here thinks he can select a 11 man squad that will demolish everyone. They refuse to accept the fact that we are finished.

Actually batted well against Aussies in UAE, but the whole unit isn't functioning together for some reason - the day top order fires, middle order flops and even in one game Top/Middle fired ... tail bolted hopelessly. I read a strory from some old article that in 1920s County season Yorkshire (?) was suffering something similar (& they had a star studded line up)... eventually, their Captain reshuffled the entire lineup by 1-2 positions, only keeping Hobbs at his customary opener's spot and it worked magic. May be, in next 4 games Arthur should try something - squad is selected, therefore no point dreaming of some new talunt to fall from Jannat and change things over night.

We did bat well against Aussie in patches. But they chased down a total that we fought tooth and tail to make with the loss of just two wickets. That is what deflated us and we never recovered from the losses in the first two games.

The problem is our team is bad in swinging conditions, but it is worse in batting conditions.

Our bench mark is 270-290 in batting conditions where the requirement is atleast 320-330.

Thats just the standard our batting is at. Which is why I said we loook good only against sides like Kent and Leicestershire these days.

Even our best batsman Babar is regressing from some time as for as S.r is concerned

So I live like 20 minutes away from the Oval, and its hailing now, hard. I don't think play will resume anytime soon.

No point to carry on like this!!!!! Team batting first will always be looser. England can play 20-30 overs with simple plan.

Feasting on failure is also the way to go for some posters

It's absolutely pelting it down now. I don't know the cut-off time but this looks more than just passing rain/hailstorm.

Considering this game had rain forecasted, there was no Intent from Imam to score runs ina reduced overs game. Shows the selfishness to just keep his spot rather than playing for the team

What is considered playing for the team then ? Playing a false attacking shot and getting out ?

I’m at the ground and imam has increased the tempo of his innings and definitely increased it after the innings break . To much hate for the guy .

So knowing if the game lasts it will be 20-30 overs a side everyone knew rain will have a big impact, yet the guys consumed the entire powerplay and has put us in a position that if the game continues it will put us in a terrible place atleast 40-50 runs behind here.

People just don’t get it. Imam’s 85 in 100 balls is invaluable for a weak team like ours. He has solid temperament and doesn’t throw his wicket away.

To get there, he would need 43 off the next 32 balls. Do you really think he has the game to do that (from over 20 to 30)?

I wouldnt mind us winning this in some rain shortened thingy - get our confidence going.

The great thing is if the match is washed out, then we won't lose the series 5-0.

Yeah Pakistan is still drawing the series so far, that means if England are favourites that makes Pakistan joint favourites!

I am not talking about this innings specifically. Usually, his SR is around 85 after a 100 deliveries. This particular innings has been slower than usual though.

Its around 70 if you take out the Zimbabwe series.

He was also MoS in South Africa, and if we only select players based on how they perform against good opposition, we will barely be able to field 11 players.

Is it Isha Guha?

I dont understand the fascination with female commies in the mens game.

Nah, Ebony Rainford Brent who usually works for TMS is better than majority of SC commentators. Alison Mitchell is good too.

Guha is just average. There are plenty of rubbish male commentators but nobody brings up their gender.

She can't be as bad as Rambo or Waqar

Hopefully this is British weather getting the rainy season out of the way before the World Cup.

Men should commentate on mens cricket and women on womens cricket. No female cricketer would have ever bowled at 90mph or faced a 90mph bowler. And yes rubbish commies should be sent packing.

This PC world has crept into sport which is worrying.

Imam needs to rotate better.

His spot is not in jeopardy. A 60 SR will win you few matches. The point of a 100 off of 130-140 balls is to your teams detriment.

Our batting has no depth. We need Hafeez back and Sarfaraz coming up the order.

Definitely worse than Rambo and Waqar. Those two at least have some technical knowledge of the game. I have no idea what this woman brings to the table.

All I have heard her talk about is IPL and inaccurately describing the action!

I don't think he's capable of batting much faster than 60-70 SR first 50 balls.

I thought he was progressing nicely after the SA series but I'm having doubts and starting to think it was an one-off.

Abid Ali looks much better and has the gift of timing. Obviously I wouldn't pick him after the WC as he's already 31-32.

If he doesn't come off, I would rather see Fakhar and Babar open, with Haris at 3.

For one dayers
Fakhar
Babar
Imad wasim
Sarfaraz
Asif ali
Hafeez
Faheem
Shahdab
Hassan ali
Amir
Shaheen

He could score 5 hundred in these 5 matches it won't change the fact that he is a nepotistic selection only because chachu is chief selector.

That's harsh.
This nepotism theory is cultured so heavily in Pakistan only. Yes it's true that nepotism always had it's ugly claw on Pakistan cricket. But when anyone with background of an influential cricket family is truely talented, he should be picked on merit. No question of nepotism should be raised. Imran Farhat was a better opener than Hafeez and should have longer career than Hafeez. But again, he was devoid of it only because his father in law was once a selector and he picked his damaat . Imam has talent . And he is performing well consistently. And he deserves a place in the team on merit.

You'll find not everyone is convinced Imam is one of the two best openers in Pakistan. I have nothing against the guy, but I reckon Abid Ali has more to offer with the bat.

If that doesn't work, I'd like to see Pakistan open with their T20I opening combo of Fakhar and Babar, then bring Haris at 3.

You are not convinced with an average of 54 with a 80 SR from an opener!!
Your standard is so high yaar!! Are you talking about Australia of 2000?

Imam-ul-Haq 42 of 68 has kept the innings
stitched till the 19th over. If extravagant strokemaker was in his place sure the score would have been 20- 25 runs more but most likely with 4 wickets down by 19th over.
In a 40 over game that would not matter much.

Play should start in 20 minutes I think. The weather is clear.

Very unfair to Pak if it is a 25-30 over game. They have Tuk Tuk'ed too much to get to a decent score.

Another inspection at 6.40pm and a potential restart at 7pm. Assuming no more rain of course
