First Test between India [172 & 352/8d] and Sri Lanka [294 & 75/7] ends in a draw

By the time I see another hate comment here on Kohli, he would be raising his bat for 51st international century. So! Keep your hate comments flowing! ;)

Even if he retired tomorrow, Kohli is already an ATG!!! To me there are only 2 bowlers and 2 batsman in history I would stop, leave everything and sit in front of the TV to watch them play, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar when at their fiery pacy best reverse swinging the ball and Brian Lara and Virat Kohli when in full flow while batting!!! Those last two extra cover sixes by Kohli were magic!!!

Acording to some pakistanis he must be the most overrated batsman in history to make 50 international hundreds having 50+ average in all 3 formats.

its not hate, its him being overrated

he failed when bowlers were getting assist from the pitch but succeeded when there weren't any

That is not an accurate statement. He did play lot of good innings when there was assistance. Only major tour where he failed was in England. You could hardly say ball was jagging around there. Bhuvaneswar after made 3 fifties in a row.

This could be one of kohli's better hundreds, with the eventful pitch in place. SL clearly missed a bowling partner for Lakmal else the match could be way closer. Anyway, umesh has been the biggest disappointment.SL, to their credit, have been more competitive than when SL greats were playing.

Oh really? Did you check out Lakmal's fiercy spell this morning against the top order wickets? Oh man! you must be waiting to come up with excuses and lame reasons whenever Kohli performs, ain't you? The more sour grapes, the more he thrives !

This is one of his best knocks ... 50th century in international cricket at a crucial juncture. Those last 2 sixes were just scintillating!!!

Agreed. He played on a complete pitch. More over wickets were tumbling around him. He maintained his composure througout scoring 80% of the team runs in the second half of the innings.

His game awareness is one of his most underrated traits. He knew that only runs would save India the game when they started to lose wickets. So the more wickets fell the more aggressive Kohli became. I wish we had someone in our team who had that mentality and game awareness.

What the heck... These people want all the pitches to behave like 1st Day pitch of this test match! A batsman scoring 100 in such conditions can only be called as "BATSMAN". It is impossible to make such pitches for all the matches. It is impossible to get 2 days rain before a match, prepare green top from "professional curators" (I mean you just can't grow grass on pitch like that and ask players to play with balls raising from good length and hitting the face! That's not cricket and no batsman including God Vishnu incarnated forget Bradman can handle that!) and retain that pitch for full 5 days (just impossible, you need to have artificial polymer grass turf which probably works like that and that should be changed & relaid for every half session probably!) Nobody will watch cricket if its turned out like this! Batsman will just say goodbye to cricket or test cricket! (baseball will excel in India!)

I think its only in PP that people expect batsman to score on green top, bouncy, difficulest pitches (especially if the batsman is from Indian origin) but on the other hand Pakistani batsmen are praised if they make healthy averages on dead UAE pitches!

you do realize that Virat scored 104* when all other indians scored 67/7 today? (extras - 10). We would have lost the match by now if not for Virat

It was a better hundred and not the best for me from Virat. I would give him that rating if he scores against a left arm pacer of top quality like Starc. Still, it would silence his critics on that kohli cannot take green tops. What I expected from Rahane, Kohli did today. This would give him confidence against Eng bowlers and SA too. There will be constant pressure on him, Rahane's form will be known in the next two matches. Success of other batsman will ensure kohli plays with free mind in SA and Eng.

Yes, we should even bring back Marshall, Ambrose, Lillie, Akram, Akther, Waqar, Mc.Grath (at their career age) everyone to play in the same match on absolute green top with cloud cover. Only then Kohli can at least be considered as a batsman, before thinking about another yardstick/excuse to scrutinize him!

Read my comment carefully. I appreciated kohli's efforts. I also said against left arm pacer because johnson, amir, starc have given him some problems and he failed in most crucial matches against left arm pacers. I did not ask for wi or whole bunch of greats to be bowling at him. Rahane batted better than him in Eng, so he is in picture. And I said it is not best for me because I know he is capable of improving against most of his perceived batting weaknesses. I hope I am clear now.

Anyone else see the incident where Dickwella played one of the strangest shots ever because he noticed there were 3 fielders behind square? That was hilarious :)))

If all 26 overs are bowled, the match will definitely become interesting! If light becomes an issue then India should take chance with Jadeja & Ashwin and ask them to dart the hell out...

How Saha's clear cheating has gone unnoticed is attrocious
What are you talking about, 9 times out of 10 that would've been given out or inconclusive by the TV umpire, unfortunately Choudharyji was too busy trying to outdo his stupidity in the last(?) T20 when he gave Sharmaji not out (umpire review) only for Kane to review the decision & then he had to overturn it!

Front on you can't possibly see for certain that had that ball hit the grass, he was asking sideon view but even the STAR crew seems incompetent these days! Also that Perera's #DressingRoomReview finally bailed SL out!
If... only....India had declared few overs earlier....
Frankly I don;t understand how this much ended so early given we had WI test in England that was played under full artificial lights!

He has dominated MJ too. He has gotten out to Aamir how many times? This odd requirement “ success against one typo of bowler in a crucial match” is Frankly bizarre. All batsmen can be discredited like this like “ I will agree Viv is a great batsman when he can bat well against India in a World Cup final” .

I don't understand if my approval/rating is required for kohli. He is,as it is, a successful cricketer and one of Indian greats, if not world greats already. Everyone has a weakness and that is exactly what I am saying. He should try to improve upon his weakness, he might not but he could try. The matches where he failed WC 2015, CT 2017 (2 times in 2 balls)matter to me atleast. I do not mind him failing. But he looked like deer in flood lights in these two matches. Also, his avg in Finals is around 25 or so, I do not remember that exact figure. If I wanted to run him down, I could quote this. I could also quote Kumble episode in which I totally disagree with Kohli's attitude - Kumble might be wrong in his handling but the way he was shown the door even Mickey Aurthur was not shown in many assignements he had. And I did not bring these things to run him down. I only quoted the good things about Kohli. I did not say he has to hit 200kmph bowler to Mars or venus. I simply gave my observation based on his performances against 'certain type of bowlers'.

My point is judging a player based on two matches just because you were more emotional about those matches is far from accurate judgement. That is just my opinion. That is why chasing as massive total against any team in big matches is too risky. Isn't that what happened to Sachin in 2003 WC final. The both matches you refer to are such matches. Even the best can catch cold feet.

Yes. Sachin's dismissal was heart-breaking till 2004. So is Kohli's because so much is expected from him. And I want him and Indian team to succeed and make up for all those heart-breaking losses which all Indians had to endure in the 1990s. Pathetic team selections (in 1990s ) - I do not agree talented players were not available, it is just that no transparency was there. Zonal quota based. I hope I was not hurtful in my expression. Thanks.

Good match. India needed another 10 overs to win.

Lankans would have been decimated if it was a turner. But the green pitch leveled both bowling units.

Indian batting is vastly superior to Lankan batting unit. Hence we got into a position of winning even though the first 2 days have been a washout.

BK proving that he will be a threat in SA. Amazing swing bowler. With new ball, he is a magician. Shami is good. Yadav is inconsistent like he always is and was.

Overall, a decent outing for India on a pace bowlers paradise.

Before the day, an Indian win or a a draw was possible but with around 22 or 23 overs to go I think India required just 3 wickets to win, so I stopped following the result at that point with the imminent outcome but what a fight back from Lanka just having a look at the score now. Anyway good effort India you tried and congrats to the Test specialists Lanka :)) SL_Fan

22 overs were remaining only on paper. But only a couple of those overs were bowled, as bad light stopped play.

Comeback from Lanka . LOL . It seems you niether watched the match nor took a look at the scorecard.

I think SLs realizes that they were just Lucky to get the Indians in trouble in the 1st Innings because of the elements !!!!!

so basically bowler can get him out only if there is assistance from track

If you look at it from the other side, it is his inability to score when the going gets tough. It goes both ways.

Someone scored a fantastic century on a day 14 wickets fell for 250 odd runs and you say going was easy !!
