Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi on Tuesday picked his World Cup XI which does not include the likes of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar and India's World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni. In fact, it includes only one Indian player on the list amid five from Pakistan, four from Australia, and one from South Africa. Any guesses who is that Indian?

Shahid Afridi's all-time World Cup XI:

  1. Saeed Anwar,
  2. Adam Gilchrist,
  3. Ricky Ponting,
  4. Virat Kohli,
  5. Inzamam ul-Haq,
  6. Jacques Kallis,
  7. Wasim Akram,
  8. Glenn McGrath,
  9. Shane Warne,
  10. Shoaib Akhtar,
  11. Saqlain Mushtaq

Why is Sachin missing the list, strange? He is the highest-scoring batsman in World Cup history. Having played six World Cups in his illustrious 19-year-long career, Sachin has scored 2278 runs in 44 innings at an average of 56.95 with 16 half-centuries and six centuries. The next on the list is Ponting with 1743 runs in 46 matches.

On the other hand, Dhoni is India's World Cup-winning skipper. His astute leadership qualities and calculative mindset had played a crucial role in India's second World Cup trophy in 2011 where Dhoni had scored the winning run en route to his unbeaten knock of 91 runs. Besides, he has scored 507 runs in 17 World Cup innings at 42.25 with three half-centuries.

Meanwhile, Kohli, who is part of Afridi's list, has scored 587 runs in 17 innings at 41.92 with two centuries and one half-century. 2019 will be his third World Cup appearance.

Well, World Cup 2019 is just around the corner where India and England are the two top contenders for the elusive trophy while defending champions Australia and Pakistan are the underdogs.

Afridi had recently opined on Pakistan's World Cup squad that was announced earlier this month. He mentioned that he will miss Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir although the latter has been considered as a reserve and will be tested in the England series that starts next month. “Must’ve been a tough decision for the selection committee to select the best 15 member squad for the WC. Best of luck to those who have made it – Hopefully you’ll bring the cup home. Personally, I’ll miss Wahab bcz of pace & Mohammad Amir given the English conditions,” Afridi had tweeted.

Its more like a Pakistan-Australia XI... He missed picking himself! WI world cup wins were fluke!

Not a bad squad by any means, a little bias aside.

Sachin is the highest run getter in WC history, has topped batting charts 2-3 times and won around 10 man of the match awards. What has Kohli done in world cups?

My World Cup XI squad list will be:-

Adam Gilchrist (wkt)
Sachin Tendulkar
Ricky Ponting
Viv Richards
Aravinda de Silva
MS Dhoni(C)
Lance Klusenar
Wasim Akram
Mitchell Starc
Shane Warne
Glenn McGrath

Reserves

Sanath Jayasuriya
Kapil Dev
Brett Lee
Martin Crowe
Muttiah Muralitharan

It's his choice. He can choose whatever he wants. There's no fixed xi which he has to pick.

Sachin no way makes it over a ruthless ODI legend like Kohli.

If you still want Sachin, then that's your personal preference, you can't say Afridi is wrong. He isn't.

His Odi XI is pretty aggressive, I actually like it, as far is Sachin is concern, he played with both Sachin and Kohli.
And if picks Kohli, that’s his choice

Sachin inatead of Kohli should be obvious, but Afridi and being aggressive go hand in hand

Fantastic line up except that i would have one more fast bowler in place of one of the two spinners.

Inzamam with an average of 23 with 0 centuries and 4 half centuries in 33 innings in World Cups :))

Tendulkar is over rated.

Good choice to include Kohli over Tendu - Kohli over Tendulkar any day.

My World Cup XI squad list will be:-
Viv Richards
Aravinda de Silva
Kapil Dev
Martin Crowe

All these players were before Afridi's time.... and he never played with them. I am sure, he picked the players only he played with.

May be that's why he did not pick Imran Khan or Javid Miandad.

Its his XI. He has every right to pick which ever player he thinks is worthy. :wy

I was not actually expecting this good of a team from him.

It's a team that can win any World Cup in this era - modern batting unit, great bowling attack.

People crying over Sachin should know he left out Wasim as well. It’s a subjective team get friggin over it

Theres a reason why this is called shahid afridi world cup xi, it is his opinion, if you think Sachin should be in the team, pick him in your own team simple as that.

It's his team and not a bad XI for ODI but probably not that good for World Cup XI. He has picked his squad from players he has played with (Otherwise Imran & Viv won't have missed out), between 1999 to 2015 - in that regard, I think it's quite a decent squad. May be Inzi, Kohli, Kallis, Saqlin & Shoaib shouldn't be there - instead Tendulkar, Sangakara/AdV, Symonds, Murali & Lee/Bond/Strac makes better XI, but it's his team and he is allowed to be a little PAK biased (Aussies make it on their merit).

Inzamam with an average of 23 with 0 centuries and 4 half centuries in 33 innings in World Cups :))

Abay chorh day yaar.

Aussies and Indian legends are biased as well a bit in their world XI line ups, some are a bit more balanced than others, goes for every player from every nationality.

It’s a fun question interviewers ask ex players.

You think he has faltu time to go to espn statsguru and set filters to see who has World Cup centuries and who doesn’t? He has ads to film, movies to produce and talk shows to attend.

Plus, being witness to the shaking legs mean Sachin would never earn the respect of Afridi.

:najam

Inzamam will be picked over Tendulkar in eating contest only. The latter wipes the floor with the former in every aspect of batting.

People take these 11s way to seriously lol. Of course there will be bias in these selections.

That bowling attack looks amazing. Batting could do with improvements though.

The Title should be World Cup 11 who I played with or Against. Because this list includes no one from the Past. No, Viv Richards, Clive Lloyd, Malcolm Marshall, Dennis Lillie, Imran Khan, Kapil Dev, Richard Hadlee etc

In addition to this there is also an additional bias, 3 players are also active members of The Tableeghi Jamaat who Afridi is a part of (Saeed Anwar, Inzamam & Saqlain Mushtaq)

It's his team so he has right to pick whomsoever he feels.
Hecan even make himself captain and get Ahmed Shehzad in as opener.
Afterall its his team :))

The squad makes no sense, you have Virat who has done nothing in the world cup so far except for that 1 hundred against Pakistan (Not counting his 100 against Bangladesh in 2011). Inzi has two good innings in the WC which probably were the most important two innings in the context of Pakistan winning the WC but again he has been poor outside those 2 innings.

In world cups? You are being as ridiculously biased as afridi but that's nothing new with you.

Inzi doesnt deserve a spot. His WC performances are really poor.

Sachin deserves a spot ahead of Kohli. Hayden did well in WC better than gilly

My squad would be

Sachin
Hayden
Ricky
Aravinda de Silva
Dhoni
Imran Khan
Wasim Akram
Shane warne
Muralitharan
Curtly Ambrose
McGrath

That's harsh. :najam

No, it's a personal opinion. Ask any kid in the streets of IND or even someone in the 20s who do they prefer.

80% would answer Kohli over SRT!

Times change. It's the new era. And you know who's the best now.

but the performance in the WCs do not reflect your comments.
Do note that this a WC squad, and not an ODI squad. If it were an ODI squad, your comments would have validity.

This is why Afridi is special.

He is beautifully mad. :afridi

No Miandad or Waqar in his World Cup squad? :inti

Won't he miss Waqar's pace and Miandad's strike rotation? :hafeez2
