Why and how? I'm one of them.

I have at times prayed two rakahs for Pakistan :anwar:anwar. I've known quite a few friends who have been named after Pakistani cricketers (from Sarfraz Nawaz to Shahid Afirid - including the surname) ... do we have more non Pakistani - Pakistan supporters?

I can assure you that my bias is not due to a "religious" reason, because in that case I should be having the allegiance to BD or AFG or Hashim Amla :D

But I simply can't explain the reason behind it...please share your thoughts..

its known fact that many of the older generations of north indian (esp UP, Bhopal area, agra and delhi) and hyderabadi muslims used to and sometimes still support Pakistan in cricket. Ofcourse im sure religion had a role to play with it but tbh we had a pretty exciting team as well. So many folks used to support us for the exciting cricket on offer. I once met an old English uncle who was a fan of Pak cricket and was going from barbados to uk via nyc after watching a pak series in carribean.

But its def true that religion has a role to play with it.

I know another foreign fan of Pakistan on PP Robinson Shrestha. He is a Nepali and a fan of Pakistan team.

A lot of Bangladeshis used to support Pakistan in the 90s and 2000s due to Bangladesh not having much of a team. They were drawn to Pakistan as it was the only other Muslim team and the Pakistan teams of the time played with flair and excitement. Girls were attracted to players like Wasim Akram, Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar.

This has declined in recent years due to the Bangladesh team finally emerging and playing an exciting brand of cricket while Pakistan is simultaneously declining and playing in a bland, monotonous style.

Very true. Pakistan used to be described as the Brazil of cricket but they are the opposite of that these days. In some ways a bit more professional, but less successful. I can't imagine why any foreigner would follow them these days, I find it a chore to watch them myself.

One other thing, the players are a bunch of classless idiots these days as well. I never saw Majid Khan play but he was described as a real gent, and I think he was from an era where most of the players came from educated backgrounds in Lahore or Karachi. These days a lot of them seem to be village bumpkins with attitudes to match.

I wonder who is responsible for us playing a bland brand of cricket. I simply can't wrap my head around it :13:

Pakistan is the only Muslim test team till 2000 so it's obvious whoever liked Cricket across the globe sharing same religion would have a soft corner for the team and players.

It's true that many Indian Muslims still do support Pak in cricket, nothing wrong in that any way.

South Africa has a strange support base.

Most South Africans who have their ancestory in the subcontinent support

1) If they are hindu and South Africa plays India than they support India
2) If they are hindu and South Africa plays Pakistan than they support South Africa
3) If they are muslim and South Africa plays India, muslims show no interest in the game
4) If they are muslim and South Africa plays Pakistan than they support Pakistan
5) Muslims love Imran Tahir
6) Hindus dislike Imran Tahir and they believe Tahir is robbing a South African of a place in the national side.

Agreed.

Many Muslims identified themselves in Pakistan all around the world. This is changing now I believe.

Also because of Hasina being Anti-Pakistan.

Possibly Pakistani Hindus may support India similarly.

I had two Hindu classmates in school in Pakistan and they were some of the most ardent Pakistani supporters specially when playing India. Perhaps they had this need to show that they support their country despite belonging to a minority religion.

In any case your assessment is wrong that Pakistani Hindus support India.

A female class fellow of mine who was Sikh got married to an Indian Sikh guy and moved to India and she still posts pictures on social media wearing the Pakistani green jersey when a big match is on.

That's awesome. I've met a few Hindu's in Sindh who support India but maybe not the case for the majority.
