ISLAMABAD - Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said Pakistan would be part of elite club of leading world economies G20 by 2030 according to predictions of international financial institutions.

Speaking at a contract signing ceremony of "Broadband for Sustainable Development Projects and National Incubation Centres", he said the distinction of the four year government of PML-N was that it ensured transparency and good governance. He emphasised that political pettiness should be buried and everybody should join hands for taking forward Pakistan's economy.

He said Pakistan signed agreements with Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in 2016, changed its laws and made its financial systems compatible with global standards to stop tax evasion. He said the current government delivered what it promised and put the country on the path of sustainable prosperity.

In April, he said, he met members of Pakistan-US Business Council in Washington and exchanged views with leading companies. The businessmen of the United States expressed confidence in the policies of PML-N government and appreciated its transparency in grant of projects.

Dar challenged that nobody could prove any financial irregularity of the government in its last four years. He said the government had vigorously implemented its policies and took steps for digital and financial inclusion of Pakistanis especially its youth. The plan was to digitally empower 50 percent of the country's adult population in coming years, the minister added.

He said that, in the new budget, incentives were announced for the expansion of information technology industry. He said the government would stay on and further strengthen the economy of Pakistan despite all the negative talk of certain quarters. He urged the IT sector to work for increasing exports of the country, adding the IT companies would get all out support of the government.

He said four years back, Pakistan was on the verge of economic collapse and faced bankruptcy but since 2013, the country's economic outlook improved and went from negative to stable to positive. The minister said many enemies within and outside the country did not want that Pakistan become sovereign and economically strong.

"We must defeat their designs. We have a clear vision for the country and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has given a roadmap of economic growth and development," he added. He stressed that economy must be decoupled from politics. "We should have one charter for economic progress of the country. The government is working on implementing its 2018-2023 medium term economic strategy," he added.

The government had paid the loans taken during the periods of Pervez Musharraf and Pakistan People’s Party, he said. He congratulated the IT companies for undertaking numerous projects of information technology in a very short span of time.

IT Minister Anusha Rahman said the government would provide all kind of support to companies that would build the National Incubation Centres. She told that the projects of Universal Service Fund for underserved and unserved areas of Balochistan would benefit population of 0.5 million and they would enjoy the facility of 3G services. In the next stage, broadband services would be provided to Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), she added.

She said that according to plan of digital Pakistan envisioned by the prime minister every village of Pakistan would be connected and get mobile phone services. The minister said the incubation centres would be established in Peshawar, Karachi and Lahore and would generate immense business opportunities through joint ventures.

Don't know how much weightage these predictions have but I came to know about it from Today's Ishaq Dar's Press Talk.

Would be great if we could manage that in next 12 years. Hope we do.

Pakistan's population will be the fifth largest in the world by then so being in the top 20 isn't much of an achievement. It'll be no different to how India is a huge economy now due to their large population despite having absolutely appalling development indicators. In per capita terms, Pakistan will always be in the bottom 20% globally and that's not about to change in our lifetime or that of our children (or their children for that matter). The fundamentals simply aren't there and a lot of doors were shut when that idiot Mush signed a free trade agreement with China.

Well we are already the sixth largest population in the world iirc

Pretty sure it'll be fifth once the census results are out. Brazil's at 205 million and I'll bet a significant amount of money on us having surpassed that several years ago.

Would be great for India is this prediction comes true. It would mean that Pakistan would have chosen the path of economic development which requires peace.

Don’t see it happening now with democrats being sidelined and being made an example for their role in Dawn Leaks and London Plan destruction.

Accountability Court today issued its judgement to confiscate all the properties of Ishaq Dar in Pakistan, sell it and deposit all money in Pak treasury.

Remember Ishaq has been declaring all these properties since ages in his tax returns. Even these properties were declared in 1999 tax declarations to FBR.

Ishaq Dar’s achievements along with Ahsan Iqbal under leadership of Nawaz Sharif before Panama Leaks misuse by Pak Establishment (Deep State & CHeap Justice Saqib along with allies in Crime)

1. Almost 50 billion dollars foreign investment through CPEC

2. 11000 Megawatts added to national grid in record 5 years when in 2012-2013 summers most Pakistanis faced 14 - 18 hours load shedding barring Top 10 major cities.

3. Terror financing menace controlled by sincere efforts.

4. Terrorism in Pakistan decreased by 75 %.

5. Pak foreign reserved reached 24 billion dollars first time in history of Pakistan.

6. 5.6 GDP was achieved under his leadership as finance minister.

7. Pakistan was included in next 11 rising economies after BRICS.

There are only two things against Ishaq Dar :

1. He has stood with democracy for last 2 decades

2. His confessional statement under pressure to ISI officer in Dicator Musharaf’s regime which was declared null and void by Supreme Court later so is nothing but trash.

For those interested to know his crimes for which he is being ridiculed and punished by state must read this article :

This Selected current PM and his best buddies like Fake degree holder Murad Saeed promising during Election campaign that post becoming PM Imran would immediately bring 200 billion dollars of Pakistani’s stacked abroad by Corrupt Pakistanis.

First of all there is no evidence for even 10 % of this amount claimed by IK to be stacked abroad. No evidence with FBR, NAB or State bank and mere lies of PTI and its supreme leader Amee ul Momineen Imran Khan head of Medina ki Riasat number 2 Pakistan.

And since getting into office he has become a begging bowl Alhamdoulillah. Contrary to all his previous claims, U turns have gripped Pakistan.

From 200 billion dollars figure give to him by his Masters and handlers a single penny hasn’t returned and won’t return either but what has happened is

1. 10 billion dollars begged from Saudi Arabia

2. 5 billion dollars begged from China

3. 12 billion dollars being begged from IMF (IK claimed he would never take IMF Loans)

4. And now begging SA for 3 months petrol with delayed payment option.

Have your ever heard of a countries Finance Minister going on the run while they are in power? So Why is he on the run? Did he fancy a holiday in London? Noora criminals on the run to London where they hide their wealth?

TalentSpotterPk At least if you want to lie do it discreetly because the $200 Billion figure was given by none other than Ishaq Dar himself.

https://www.dawn.com/news/1105356

oh dear, we wont see this Noora for a few weeks? As soon as he is asked questions, he runs off and thinks that we have forgotten? I asked why he thought the PM of PK needed a buffalo, or why the Nooras ran up a 8% budget deficit and he ignored the question and ran. All Anti PK elements need to be crushed!

TalentSpotterPk should remember that it was Imran Khan who wanted Atif Mian to be part of ECC but PML-N made a brouhaha of that in parliament and introduced a document condemning Ahmadis in Senate as a reaction to that... Also how damaad sb Capt Safdar went against Ahmadis to distract from Panama leaks

Current 20th spot is at 675B.

Pakistan is at 300B right now.

GDP growth was 3.7 % in 2013 and in 5 years it was lifted to 5.8 %

And why dont explain how this was done- $37bn borrowed, who will pay the interest? If you pump $37bn into any economy their growth rate will jump, but its what happens when you have to pay the money back. Tell us how the Nooras were going to pay this back when they had little more than 2 months money for imports? Your dishonesty is shown in all your threads, you are really smarting after the Indians got a bloody nose. IA we will prevail.

The reason behind economic bubble in PMLN tenure was due to low oil prices which actually courtesy to Iran's oil in international market.

Liar in chief- look at what the IMF said about the disaster you left behind.
“Pakistan is facing a challenging economic environment, with lackluster growth, elevated inflation, high indebtedness, and a weak external position. This reflects the legacy of uneven and procyclical economic policies in recent years aiming to boost growth, but at the expense of rising vulnerabilities and lingering structural and institutional weaknesses. The authorities recognize the need to address these challenges, as well as to tackle the large informality in the economy, the low spending in human capital, and poverty. In this regard, the government has already initiated a difficult, but necessary, adjustment to stabilize the economy, including thorough support from the State Bank of Pakistan. These efforts need to be strengthened. Decisive policies and reforms, together with significant external financing are necessary to reduce vulnerabilities faster, increase confidence, and put the economy back on a sustainable growth path, with stronger private sector activity and job creation.

Pakistan should just refuse to pay b these loans. The pti govt should be like why should we be held responsible for the debts of the PPP and PML-N. Jo ukharna hai ukhar lo.

What are these international countries and imf going to do? Threaten military action to get their money back lol

The money is lent to criminals in govt like the Nooras and PPP so that the country becomes so indebted that even when legitimate good govts come in, they cant escape from their web.

Majority of countries and markets will stop doing business with Pakistan which mean close to zero imports/exports so a situation like North Korea. They will also make sure no banking transactions to/from Pakistan which means remittances of overseas Pakistanis will stop as well. We will be in a bigger hole in case we refuse to pay...

If you knew an iota of what is going on you would be cursing the day Nawaz sharif became the PM. That man is a traitor and should be hung at the gallows along with ishaq dar. Anyone with any basic economic knowledge knows you cant borrow beyond your means because sooner or later you have to pay those loans back. Your party has destroyed a generation of Pakistanis and their future and you have teh audacity to blame a 8 month old govt? I mean if your great leader had spent a few rupees on teh education system maybe you wouldnt be spouting such nonsense.

Anyone who still supports the PMLN should be declared a traitor and sent to jail..you have endangered the very security of the country and yet have the nerve to come on here with such bakwaas??

The money is lent to criminals in govt like the Nooras and PPP so that the country becomes so indebted that even when legitimate good govts come in, they cant escape from their web.

The only way out of this situation is the Saudi model, not sure if Imran has the stomach to implement it since many in his party would a target as well as many more in the establishment.

The fact that you took the time and explain something that common sense should dictate...geez

Sometimes I wonder how old some of the posters are around here are intellectually.

Lol. You serious?

Do you have any idea what you are saying?

I am saying this because of the non stop criticism by the PPP and PML-N against the current PTI govt when the PTI govt is struggling and scrambling to pay back the world for the debts these two crooks took and are now dishonestly behaving as if there was no responsibility on their part and that they have had nothing to do with the predicament the country faces today as a whole.

Tehreek-e-Insaf's reaction to Ishaq Dar becoming Deputy Prime Minister

Spokesperson of Tehreek-e-Insaf said that there is no post of Deputy Prime Minister in the Constitution of Pakistan, there is no constitutional status or scope for the post of Deputy Prime Minister.

According to the spokesman, a constitutional amendment is needed for the creation of a post like the Deputy Prime Minister. The power of constitutional amendment is not with the fake government deprived of the mandate.

The spokesperson said that even his allies are not ready to accept the appointment of Ishaq Dar as the Deputy Prime Minister, the economy has reached the brink of bankruptcy due to Ishaq Dar's incompetence and incompetence as the Finance Minister. There is a mill.

The government has appointed PML-N's central leader and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar as the Deputy Prime Minister, whose Cabinet Division has issued a notification which will come into effect immediately.

Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was the Deputy Prime Minister earlier. The post of Deputy Prime Minister does not exist in the constitution.

Speaking to ARY News, the legal expert Qaiser Imam has said that there is no provision in the constitution for the appointment of the deputy prime minister, the position of the deputy prime minister is not in accordance with the constitution, and the parliament will have to amend the constitution for the position of the deputy prime minister.

He said that Pervaizalhi's notification of the Deputy Prime Minister was also not constitutional and legal. The notification of the Deputy Prime Minister can be challenged in the court. It is unconstitutional to create such a position without the authority. By doing this, the whole system including the Constitution and the law was made a spectacle.

Ishaq Dar’s appointment as deputy PM challenged

According to the details, the SHC two-member bench headed by the Chief Justice of the SHC Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi will hear the petition on Friday.

The petition was filed by Tariq Mansoor who argued that Ishaq Dar’s appointment as Deputy Prime Minister was ‘unlawful’ and unconstitutional. The petitioner maintained that a deputy prime minister slot is not mentioned anywhere in the constitution.

It is pertinent to mention here that Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was assigned the additional responsibility of deputy prime minister, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday

The announcement coincided with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Ishaq Dar’s visit to Saudi Arabia, where they attended the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) special meeting on global collaboration, growth, and energy.

According to the notification, PM Shehbaz appointed Ishaq Dar as his deputy with immediate effect and until further orders. Before Ishaq Dar’s appointment to the post, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, who was then with the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid was appointed as the first deputy prime minister of Pakistan in June 2012.

Earlier on on Wednesday the Foreign Office said in a statement that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar will lead the Pakistan delegation at the two-day 15th OIC summit being held in Banjul, the Gambia on May 4-5.

The Deputy Prime Minister Dar will also attend the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting preceding the Summit on 2-3 May where the ministers will discuss and finalize the agenda and outcome documents for the Summit.

The summit is being convened at a critical time for the Muslim ummah as the war on the people of Gaza continues unabated. It would be an important occasion for the OIC leaders to deliberate upon the dire situation in Gaza and project a strong, collective and unified stance on the Palestinian question.

Dar set to leave China today for FMs dialogue

Ishaq Dar will visit the Chinese capital from May 13 to 16, at the invitation of Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi.

Commenting on the current relations with Pakistan and China’s expectation for the visit, a Chinese foreign ministry’s spokesperson said that China would like to work with Pakistan to take this visit as an opportunity to deliver on the important common understandings between the leaders, carry forward the traditional friendship, step up strategic communication and coordination, deepen practical cooperation in various areas, upgrade the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, deepen the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership, and accelerate the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era.

China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners and ironclad friends. In recent years, the two countries have maintained close high-level exchanges and interactions at all levels, jointly responded to the evolving international and regional landscape, deepened mutually beneficial cooperation, and further strengthened the friendship between the two countries.

On the sidelines of the Strategic Dialogue, the foreign minister is expected to meet Chinese leaders, senior ministers and leading corporate executives.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued notices on Tuesday to Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and others, seeking replies by June 12 on petitions challenging the former's appointment as deputy prime minister.

IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the pleas filed by petitioners Fahad Shabbir and PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat.

Other concerned officials issued notices in the case included the secretary to the prime minister and cabinet secretary. Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan was also issued a notice seeking his judicial assistance.

Shabbir's lawyer Nadeem Sarwar appeared before the court. The IHC CJ asked him if the Lahore High Court (LHC) had not settled the matter. “I think I saw it in the media,” he said. The counsel replied that even if the matter had been settled by the LHC, it fell under the IHC's jurisdiction.

"This is exactly what I am saying. The case has been decided. You should check it. Do you understand English?" Justice Farooq remarked.

He then asked Marwat’s lawyer, Riaz Rahi, for the grounds of his plea. “There are four grounds, as you can see in the notification,” the counsel replied.

He stated that there was no scope for an executive order, asserting that one person cannot hold two positions.

Economic diplomacy vital for Pakistan’s growth: Deputy PM Dar

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Friday stressed the need to reorient the country’s diplomatic initiatives from conventional diplomacy to economic diplomacy to ensure that Pakistan’s development agenda was also advanced.

“The conventional diplomatic times are over. Along with the conventional diplomacy, we will have to focus more on economic diplomacy,” the Deputy PM said while addressing the passing ceremony of 43rd passing out specialized diplomatic course here at the Foreign Services Academy.

He said the basic purpose of foreign diplomacy was not only to safeguarding national interests but also to help in stimulating economic growth by transforming the potential of the country’s geo-strategic position into geo-economic one.

Deputy PM Dar said Pakistan was at the cross road and at a very important location in the world. However, he said unfortunately “we failed to streamline and benefit from our location which the Almighty has blessed us”. He emphasized the need for young diplomats to be equipped with the necessary skill set to promote trade and investment, tourism and opportunities to explore the workforce.

“Today’s diplomats should not only be experts in international law and politics alone but also economic diplomacy”, he remarked.

He also asked the young diplomats to work hard in their careers for the development of the country saying that to complete with the world, they should no longer engage in luxuries. “I am confident you will take this country forward on the road of prosperity, peace and stability,” he said.

He also assured his full support to upgrade the infrastructure and improve the academy’s working.

The deputy prime minister pointed out that Pakistan had great potential in terms of workforce, resources and economy.

He recalled that Pakistan in 2013, was declared a globally macroeconomic unstable country, a country that was on the verge of default. “It was projected that Pakistan will take at least a decade plus to come out of the quagmire it was facing by 2013”, he said.

However, he said what happened in the next 3-4 years reflected the resilience of the country, its economy and its people. In three and half years, he said Pakistan reached to a level where it was recognized as the 24th biggest global economy.

“Pakistan’s economic indicators were the best, and probably still not matched in any era,” he said adding that the country witnessed the lowest CPI inflation at 3.6% food inflation at 2%, over 6% economic growth, the best stock market in South Asia and 6th best in the world.

But unfortunately, he said, “our leg pulling and political instability took Pakistan in next four years to 47th global economy”.

The Deputy PM hoped that Pakistan, with nuclear power, a great strategic location and huge natural resources worth over $10,000 billion would one day lead the Muslim Ummah.

“Pakistan has been blessed with tested, proven and certified mineral, granite and stones’ reserves worth $10,000 billion,” he added.

The Deputy Prime Minister also commended the efforts of Foreign Service Academy for maintaining excellence in its training modules and the training of a large number of foreign diplomats over the years.

Director General of the Foreign Service Academy, Ambassador Ahmed Hussain Dayo underlined the commitment of the Academy to continue to maintain excellence in training of diplomats and its pride in training 1,554 foreign participants representing 120 countries.

Govt committed to ensuring Red Zone security, Dar assures diplomats

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar defended the government’s actions in preventing protests by the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), emphasising that despite efforts by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to engage with PTI leadership, the party refused to comply with a court order.

Speaking at a briefing to the diplomatic corps at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, Dar detailed the government’s approach to managing protests, particularly in Islamabad’s Red Zone, where key institutions, including Parliament, the Supreme Court, and foreign missions, are located.

The briefing also provided an overview of Pakistan’s foreign policy strategy in light of the incoming US administration under President-elect Donald Trump.

Dar explained that the government had taken steps to ensure the security of the Red Zone by enforcing the new “Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act 2024”, which restricts protests in sensitive areas and mandates prior approval from a magistrate for public gatherings.

“Islamabad High Court had directed PTI to refrain from holding any protests in the Red Zone, and the government acted on this order,” Dar told the diplomats. “Despite the interior ministry's attempts to mediate with PTI, their efforts were unsuccessful.”

He went on to highlight that PTI’s decision to announce protests on significant dates, such as November 24 – coinciding with the visit of Belarus’s President – was in line with the party's past pattern of organising demonstrations on sensitive occasions.

He pointed out that similar protests in 2014 had disrupted high-profile visits, including that of the Chinese president.

The DPM further recalled that the Supreme Court had dismissed PTI's claims of electoral fraud in the 2013 general elections, which had originally fuelled the party’s 2014 sit-in. “Despite a written agreement with the government, PTI never apologised for their actions during the 2014 protests,” he said.

Despite the tensions, Dar reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, asserting that the security forces had shown restraint.

“Law enforcement agencies were equipped only with water cannons and tear gas, not live ammunition,” he stated, noting that the military, along with police and paramilitary forces, had been deployed to protect critical infrastructure such as the Diplomatic Enclave, Parliament House, and the Prime Minister’s residence.

“While we value freedom of expression, it should not be exercised in a way that creates lawlessness or puts the safety of citizens and the diplomatic community at risk,” Dar added. He emphasised that the government had shown considerable patience in handling the situation.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar asked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to account for the 2018 general elections, addressing the matter during a statement in Islamabad on Wednesday

Dar emphasised his belief in reconciliation while pointing to several petitions filed against the 8 February elections, stating, "If objections exist regarding the 2024 general elections, the courts should decide. However, the accountability must begin with the 2018 elections."

He questioned the legitimacy of the 2018 results, saying, "Everyone knows who won and who was made to win that election."

Dar maintained: "The mandate for conducting elections in 2024 did not rest with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

He was of the view that the discussions on electoral integrity must address the events of 2018 first.

– Khawaja Asif blames PTI for spreading provincialism in country –

Earlier on Tuesday, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif blamed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for spreading provincialism in the country.

Expressing his thoughts during the National Assembly session, Asif said: “There exists internal differences within the PTI. Ali Amin Gandapur’s guards had opened the firing on their own workers. The PTI and Bushra Bibi has escaped the D-Chowk.”

He slammed KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, saying, “The KP chief minister had attacked Islamabad by leaving his province.”

“It was 10 years back that the PTI founder had given the call of civil disobedience,” he stated.

Ishaq Dar reaches New York to attend UNSC meeting

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is in New York where he will represent Pakistan in the high-level meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on multilateralism and global governance, starting from tomorrow.

The meeting with the theme “Practicing Multilateralism: Reforming and Improving Global Governance” has been conveyed by China.

The 15-member Council meeting will be chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Pakistan welcomes this timely initiative by China, which underscores the critical importance of multilateralism in addressing today’s complex global challenges.

In his remarks, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will reaffirm Pakistan’s strong commitment to the principles of multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations in promoting international peace, security, and sustainable development.

Ishaq Dar will also highlight Pakistan’s priorities as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the term 2025-2026, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and inclusive global governance.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Beijing on Monday for a three-day official visit, state-owned Radio Pakistan reported

The visit is taking place at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The diplomatic trip comes amid heightened regional tensions following last week’s ceasefire between Pakistan and India. The ceasefire followed a military standoff linked to the Pahalgam attack in IIOJK, which India attributed to Pakistan, although no conclusive evidence has been presented.

China lent unwavering support to Pakistan when India launched missile strikes targeting Pakistani civilians under the garb of eliminating so-called terror camps. It is widely believed that China worked closely with Pakistan throughout the crisis, providing critical military as well as diplomatic support to deter India.

China publicly backed Pakistan and sent a clear message that it supports Islamabad to safeguard its territorial integrity and sovereignty. The four-day conflict proved immensely beneficial for China, whose J-10C fighter jets and PL-15 missiles helped Pakistan down six Indian fighter jets, including highly-advanced French made Rafale.

Before departing for Beijing, DPM Ishaq Dar reaffirmed the strong trade and diplomatic relationship between Pakistan and China, Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

Dar noted that he had held two recent telephone conversations with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who extended the invitation for the official visit.

He said his meetings with Chinese leadership would cover a broad range of topics, including political, regional, and global issues, as well as the recent tensions between Pakistan and India.

Referring to his discussions with foreign counterparts worldwide, Ishaq Dar stated that these interactions have revealed attempts by India to shift blame onto Pakistan, including allegations related to attacks on nuclear installations.

During the visit, the Foreign Office said Dar will hold in-depth discussions with Wang on the evolving regional situation in South Asia and its implications for peace and stability.
