Former Indian skipper and the head of the BCCI’s technical committee, Sourav Ganguly has written a strongly-worded letter to the board expressing concerns over the state of affairs of Indian cricket, going to the extent of stating that Indian cricket is in danger.

“Indian cricket with its massive following has been built over the years of hard work from superb administrators and greatest of cricketers who have managed to bring thousands of fans to the ground… I at the present moment ,think it’s in danger … Hope people are listening,” Ganguly wrote in an email addressed to the BCCI acting president CK Khanna, acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry, dated October 30, a copy of which is with CricketCountry.

Ganguly also wrote of a deep sense of fear as to where Indian cricket administration is going.

“I write this mail to you all with the deep sense of fear as to where Indian cricket administration is going …Having played the game for a long period of time ,were our lives were ruled by winning and losing ,and the image of Indian cricket was of paramount importance to us .We wake up looking at how our cricket is faring even now But with deep sense of worry ,(I used the word worry) I beg to state that the way things have gone in the last couple of years ,the authority of indian cricket to the world and the love and belief of millions of fans is on the way down,” he wrote.

Ganguly also questioned the way the BCCI has handled the alleged harassment claims against current CEO Rahul Johri. “I don’t know how far it’s true, but the recent reports of harassment has really made the BCCI look very poorly … more so the way it has been handled,” he wrote.

Not sure if Indian cricket which is producing likes of Kohli and Sharma is in so much danger?

Ganguly is still cut up about the selection of Shastri as head coach, it's pretty apparent that the cricket committee was overruled in this matter.

Ganguly was on the Cricket Advisory Committee that selected Shastri as India's coach after the bitter falling out of captain Virat Kohli with incumbent coach Anil Kumble. First, the deadline for the application was extended, allowing Shastri to apply. After the interviews, Ganguly said in a press conference he wanted to give Kohli some time to think about his demand. However, the CoA and the BCCI announced Shastri's appointment the same evening. The first press release said Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan had been appointed batting and bowling consultants, but neither Dravid nor Zaheer ever got to work with the team.

"My experience in the matter of coach selection was appalling," Ganguly wrote. "The less said the better."

Appears that he has his eyes on the top job does Ganguly.

Which won't be the worst thing to happen.

Sounds too dramatic from an outsider’s perspective - India is the future of cricket and will be the only powerhouse in 10-15 years from now.

Ganguly has been CAB chairman for over 3 years now. While there are some changes at Eden Gardens with the pitch becoming more sportive and better spectator facilities etc, on the grassroots not much seems to have changed. Bengal still struggle to reach knock out stages of premier domestic tournaments, junior teams are going no where, no new precocious talent emerging. Jhakrhand and even Odisha seem to have moved ahead of them. Functioning of the State Association has been as chaotic as it was earlier.

So even if he becomes BCCI chief, we should not expect any miracles.
