Wonder what other Indian journalists take their lead from foreign governments? And of course vice-versa as one assumes India does the same to foreign journalists in order to push the Indian narrative.

De has of course denied this however Basit has little to gain by lying here.

Islamabad/New Delhi: In controversial comments, former Pakistani envoy to India Abdul Basit has revealed that he got prominent socialite-columnist Shobhaa De to advocate for plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir after the 2016 killing of militant Burhan Wani when the Valley was in turmoil.

In an interview with a Pakistani blogger, Farhan Virk, who calls himself a part of ‘Team IK’ (Team Imran Khan), the former Pakistani High Commissioner to India says: “We have seen how after the martyrdom of Burhan Wani, the way pellet guns were used, and Kashmir was placed under an economic blockade, Kashmir’s economy was destroyed… And there was no one in mainland India who would speak about it.

“It was a challenge for me to convince any journalist to please write an article in the newspaper for Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. I finally found a lady journalist, Shobhaa De, who is very prominent. She wrote an article. I met her and made her understand. She wrote at the end of her article, ‘Now the time has come to resolve the Kashmir issue once and for all through a plebiscite’.”

As if anyone was even belied the semi liberals, Well timed by Basit , he probably wants India to move to right wing.

"I met her and made her understand". Doesn't mean he told her what to write. Firebrand feminist liberal Shoba de is not someone you push around and tell what to write. He convinced her and she wrote it because she believed it. Doesn't mean it's the right solution. It's just her opinion.

This is the problem with Pakistanis. Cannot keep quiet. Like Abdul Basit. He had to gloat :)

1) Shobhaa De is a true humanitarian if she did this.
2) Abdul Basit should never have mentioned her name. Typical old chacha who loves the sound of his own voice and is recklessly putting a ladies safety at risk in a country where Bhakhts have murdered women journalists.
3) Farhan Virk is a fascist scumbag who led the charge against Atif Mian. I had alot of respect for him galvanizing the PTI social media team, however seeing him for the facist he was confirmed he shouldn't be given any important position

She is denying this, but it's not like we should be surprised. She's clearly staked her position as anti-BJP/Modi since 2014, so not really far fetched that she would peddle a narrative that is against the current government/majority of the population's wishes.

Article title by orissa post is misleading. Basit reaching out to liberal side is good politics but it makes it seem like he wrote the article for her or instructed her which is not the case. I e taking lead from foreign govt

On the subject of Abdul Basit.......
