Gau-rakshaks thrashed, attacked with sickles in Maharashtra; ten injured

Around 10 cow vigilantes who had intercepted a tempo carrying cows were thrashed by a mob of around 50 people in Srigonda in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district.

The cow vigilantes of Pune’s Akhil Bharat Krishi Gau-Seva Kendra seized the cows that were being transported abattoir by the tempo. The cow vigilantes, also called gau rakshaks, had taken them to a police station to file a complaint against the driver and owner of the tempo.

After they came out of the police station, a mob attacked them with sticks and sickles, injuring 10 of the cow vigilantes. Sources state they were people who owned the cows and some of them owned abbatoirs in the area. The injured gau rakshaks were admitted to a government hospital in Srigonda.

The tempo owner, Wahid Shaikh, and the driver of the tempo, Raju Fatrubhai Shaikh, have been arrested under the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ahmednagar, Sudarshan Munde said, “As per the FIR lodged by Swami, we have booked about 30 persons under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 395 (dacoity) and other sections of the IPC. Seven persons were injured in the incident. Investigation has been initiated to confirm the sequence of events and arrest the assailants.”

Not vegetarinism.....you may eat chicken, pig, sheep ,camel , horse ,lion ,tiger , snake , ...its only they force about cows because it hurts their religious sentiments and they have been worshiping cows since centuries.

Yes they do. I lived in a Gulf country for many years and I couldn't eat pork or drink beer. Haram. Blanket ban.

I also like to dive into beef and so far it isn't banned in Karnataka. The moment it is, sign me up for the beef-rakshak brigade.

if the beef is banned in India. then it is a different scenario but there is no ban barring a few states... if the constitution and rules allow people to eat beef then who are the cow rakshaks to stop anybody... 90% of beef is eaten in hindu majority states... in kashmir despite being a muslim majority and almost 85% muslim population.... there are only 30 - 40 beef sellers in valley... and they open mostly only on Sundays.

Not all muslims prefer beef. I do but my family thinks that beef meat is a cheaper option as compared to chicken.

I am talking about Hindu's in India not the Middle East. If you don't like Arab laws then don't go there.

Talking about India here not the Middle East. Indian Muslims are your own people where as you are not Arab's. I am no fan of Arab laws either and realise that most of them are indeed oppressive regimes. I am saying that no one is stopping Hindu's from eating pork in India.

I believe you and agree with what you say, but those are not secular countries, they are Muslim countries.

India can't claim to be secular anymore but a Hindu country if such civil liberties are checked, wouldn't you agree?

It's funny how the republicans in the US use similar defense for their policies that target minorities or people they don't like.

They call it religious liberty. Basically, I don't like gays, so I don't want them to have equal rights as the rest, if I am a clerk at the office of marriage registrar or whatever, I would not issue them a marriage license even though the government deems it legal, but my religion says homosexuality is a sin. So I won't do it.

This is an actual scenario. So in India, Hindus are doing the same thing. My religion says cows are sacred, so I will steal the cows you paid for if I believe you plan to eat them. I will steal your property in the name of religious freedom.
