Gen Bajwa sanctions death sentences for 15 'hardcore terrorists'

Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa has sanctioned death sentences for 15 "hardcore terrorists", the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release on Thursday.

The convicted militants, the military's media wing said, were involved in terrorism activities, including "attacks on armed forces and law enforcement agencies, destruction of educational institutions and killing of innocent civilians".

Collectively, the terrorists were found guilty of killing 45 people, including four civilians and 41 security personnel and injuring 103 others, it added.

The ISPR further said that arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession, and that they all confessed to being part of proscribed organisations.

In addition to these militants, six other convicts were awarded imprisonment of varying periods by the military courts.

The details of the convicts sentenced to death as provided by the ISPR are as follows:

Khiwal Muhammad s/o Babo Rahman
According to the press statement, Muhammad was involved in attacking the armed forces, which resulted in the deaths of Captain Bilal Kamran, Havildar Yousaf Khan and four other soldiers, while also injuring 39.

Saddamullah s/o Sher Nawab Khan
He was involved in attacking security forces which resulted in the death of Havildar Ghulam Yasin, Havildar Syed Ali Ahmed Shah, Havildar Muhammad Ali and 14 other soldiers, while also injuring 39.

Izhar s/o Bakhat Buland, Jan Bacha s/o Bacha Rawan, Sharafat Ali s/o Muhammad Amin and Habibullah s/o Ghulam Ahad
The convicts were involved in the killing of civilians, including Sirajuddin and Shah Nazar, and the destruction of an educational institution.

They were also involved in attacking armed forces which resulted in the deaths of Naib Subedar Muhammad Hanif, Havildars Muhammad Ilyas, Muhammad Naseer, Muhammad Qayyum and five soldiers, and injuries to 12 others.

They were also found in possession of firearms and explosives.

Saidullah s/o Awal Jan, Zar Muhammad s/o Sakhi Mar Jan and Alif Khan s/o Sardar Khan
They were involved in attacking security forces which resulted in the death of Naib Subedar Gul Tayaz and another soldier, while also injuring two others. They were also found in possession of firearms and explosives.

Mujahid S/O Yar Wali
He was involved in the destruction of Government Boys and Girls Primary Schools, Sheikhmal Khel, Khyber Agency. He was also involved in causing the death of a soldier and injuries to two others.

Tariq Ali s/o Bawar Shah
He was involved in attacking law enforcement agencies, resulting in the death of Sub-Inspector Umer Khayam along with three police officials and injuries to six others. He was also found in possession of firearms.

Israr Ahmed s/o Taj Muhammad
He was involved in the killing of police Constable Ijaz Ahmed, a civilian Zarmina and injuries to two others. He was also found in possession of firearms.

Kaleemullah s/o Hayatullah
He was involved in the killing a civilian, Jibraheel. He was also found guilty of attacking the armed forces, which resulted in injuries to a soldier. He was also found in possession of firearms.

Muhammad Rehman s/o Sher Ramzan
He was found guilty of slaughtering a civilian Naik Ahmed Wafa. He also kidnapped two soldiers for ransom.

Fayazullah s/o Muhammad Nawaz Khan
He was involved in attacking the armed forces, which resulted in the death of Sepoy Shahzad Pervez.

Wonderful! That is exactly the way it should be. I am not a fan of demilitarising their minds or baloney like that. They have killed many innocent people over the years for which they have to pay the ultimate price. Ask the relatives of those they have killed what punishment they want for them and I am sure they will insist on the death penalty. This is the only way to bring peace in Pakistan, we have seen positive results through rah-e-nijaat type operations putting these evil terrorists in their place. Most forms of crime can be forgiven however cold blooded murder's are amongst the very few that can not.

COAS confirms death sentences of 11 hardcore terrorists

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Bajwa confirmed on Friday death sentences awarded to 11 hardcore terrorists, who were involved in heinous offences related to terrorism, said an Inter-Services Public Relations statement.

The ISPR said that the terrorists were involved in attacking armed forces/ Law Enforcement Agencies, killing of an innocent civilian and destruction of an educational institution.

“On the whole, they were involved in killing of 26 persons including a civilian and 25 armed forces/Frontier Constabulary/ police officials and injuring 22 others. Arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession. These convicts were tried by special military courts,” said the ISPR.

The army’s media wing said that 22 convicts have also been awarded imprisonment. Details of the eight cases is as under:

1. Anwar Salam S/O Said Nazar

The convict was a member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking armed forces personeel, which resulted in death of Major Zia Ul Haq, Subedar Ali Asghar, Havildar Muhammad Afzal, Havildar Muhammad Bashir and Lance Naik Muhammad Anwaiz. He was also involved in kidnapping of Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Khaqan Afzal for ransom. The convict confessed his offences before the judicial magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

2. Irfan ul Haq S/O Dilbar

The convict was a member of a banned organisation. He was involved in abetting terrorist commander Mufti Meraj Ud Din in kidnapping of Captain Najam Riaz Raja and Captain Junaid Khan along with two soldiers, after which they were slaughtered by the terrorists. He was also found in possession of explosives. The convict confessed his offences before a judicial magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

3. Sahib Zada S/O Akbar Zada

The convict was a member of proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking LEAs, which resulted in death of Naib Subedar Muhammad Hanif along with four soldiers, a civilian and wounded eight others. He was also involved in destruction of Government Primary School, Langar (Swat). Moreover, he was found in possession of fire-arms/explosives as well. The convict confessed his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

4. Nadir Khan S/O Ahmed, Izat Khan S/O Bashreen and Imtiaz Ahmed S/O Taj Muhammad

The convicts were members of proscribed organisation. They were involved in attacking armed forces of Pakistan, which resulted in death of a Junior Commissioned Officer along with two soldiers and injuries to two others. They were also found in possession of fire-arms and explosives. These convicts confessed their offences before the judicial magistrate and the trial court. They were awarded death sentence.

5. Ameer Zeb S/O Jahangir and Badshah Iraq S/O Muhammad Ishaq

Both the convicts were members of a proscribed organization. They were involved in attacking LEAS, which resulted in death of three soldiers and injuries to nine others. They were also found in possession of fire-arms and explosives. These convicts confessed their offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. They were awarded death sentence.

6. Izhar Ahmed S/O Mukhtiar Ahmed

The convict was a member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Constable Ayub Khan and Constable Islam Gul. He was also found in possession of explosives. The convict confessed his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

7. Akbar Ali S/O Shaiber Sahib

The convict was a member of a proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking armed forces men, which resulted in death of Sepoy Asif Mehmood and injuries to an officer, along with two soldiers. He was also found in possession of explosives. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

8. Muhammad Imran S/O Aziz Ur Rehman

The convict was a member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of a soldier. He was also found in possession of fire-arms. The convict confessed his offences before the magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

Hope they give them public executions preferably in front of schools, where kids can see the consequences of extremism.

Responding to extremism with extremism? I don't think that would work long-term.
