4th term ahead for Chancellor Merkel. Although her vote share seems to have dropped .

And the right wing populist party AfD have emerged as the third largest party.

interesting times ahead for Europe's most powerful country.

seems to be a lot of underlying discontent at the status quo in Germany.

AfD expected to more than double their result from 2013. Back then they got 4.8%, this time they're expected to take 13%

The SPD suffer their worst result since 1948 with a mere 20%, only 7% more than AfD.

Even Merkel's party suffered a fairly big loss of around 10% this time around, with the fringe parties like AfD, Die Linke and Die Grüne (both left leaning) benefiting, both polling around 8%, as well as the FDP (anti government intervention, monetarists) with 6%.

In Germany a party needs 5% of the vote to enter the actual Bundestag and take seats, so the AfD taking seats for the first time ever is a fairly big moment in German political history.

Basically the established parties seem to have suffered a bit of a thumping, with the fringe parties gaining significantly.

A so called called "Jamaica Alliance" seems the likely result, with CDU,FDP and one of the other parties forming a coalition, with the SPD already confirming they'll lead the opposition in an effort to prevent the AfD taking on that role.

The equivalent of Trump's 'there were fine people in a Neo-Nazi rally' comment....

GenericBrand they argue that they are proud of the Wehrmacht who were the regular German Army who were there before the Nazis. And distinguish between the SS death squads that were set up by the Nazis and primarily used in their campaign of ethnic cleansing in Eastern Europe and the Final Solution.
