What's new

Good players of the short pitched deliveries

Nazir is definitely a very good hooker/puller

but nobody can match Ricky Ponting

I knew this was coming therefore I will repost an old post of mine.......

Being a good player of a certain type of delivery doesn´t mean you will have to have a hundred percent record to be called good at it. Digging out YouTube videos cannot change my opinion.

Few suggestions:

Go and search in YouTube his 90+ runs innings again South Africa in Belfast, Ireland, 2007. Apart from that, I can dig out few clips as well but I am sensible enough to know that it won´t make any sense.

Inzamam-ul-Haq was a great player of spin, but those shameless people who disagree to me may post a clip of him falling over the stumps against Monty Panesar. Would I then disagree to myself? - No!

Peace:)!

It's gotta be Ponting, but then again I'm a relatively recent cricket fan so I don't know much

Lolll relax bro, me posting that video link doesn't mean that Tendulkar is not a good player of short pitch deliveries he is a great player so in order to be a great player you mastered all shots. No one is 100% perfect in any area of cricket whether they have mastered it or not. Most people in this thread are saying Ponting is goodplayer of short pitched delivery. Surely he is but he has also missed a few so if Tendulkar was hit on helmet by Akhtar doesn't mean he is not a good player of short pitch deliveries I didnt intend to insult you or your opinion. My intentions weren't to hurt your feelings or to make fun of Tendulkar :(

This generation don't even stand a chance against the 70's, 80's players when it comes to playing short balls. Reason being the rule of not be able to bowl more than one bouncer. That is why with the exception of Ponting I don't think the current players are even close to half decent ones from back in the days.

The best I saw was obviously Richards. Imagine him and his fellow mates facing short balls in the nets one after another with no respite from any of the bowlers.

You don't want to bowl short to Adam Gilchrist, you will be punished, rest assured!

No one can time it better then Nazir....

Richie Richardson was the best hooker and puller I ever saw.

Followed by Viv Richards, Fredricks and Ponting.

Imran Khan was also very good at that shot.

Forgot about Richie Richardson he was superb against the short ball.

Completely agree with the comment about 70s and 80s players being better against the short ball. Have a look at the Youtube of Michael Holding bowling to Close (I think it is titled Holding gets annoyed or something like that) and look at Close's technique in evading the short ball. Nobody has those skills in modern cricket.

Tony Greg's little Kalu was also good at it. I remember he takes on fast bowlers two times taller than him.

Greg Chappal, Gordon Greenedge, and Viv Richard were the best.
Ponting in current cricketers.

Bump. I am sure Pak bowlers will tease Indian batters with short pitched deliveries.

Question to Indian members. Who is the best current Indian batsman who plays short pitched balls better.

Rohit Sharma is the best currently.

Certainly among SC players.
