Greatest ODI Team - A Draft [Rules #19]

I'm not sure if drafts are popular on this forum but would any one be interested in taking part?
 
Got 4 so far (including me). looking to getting towards 7 or 8 so I'll wait till tomorrow and then post up a set of rules. YOu guys can obviously have a say in what you'd like in the rules or if you're happy with it the way it is.
 
If we could have a draft consisting of players available today, we could make a team and have the members of PP (who aren't participating) pick seeds 1-16. Then every team faces off based on their seeding and one team goes through to the next round.

Just a suggestion, did this on a basketball forum and it was pretty fun.
 
If we do end up having a lot of teams (around 8+ or so), I would suggest doing the draft with a third-round reversal imposed
 
Ok, we got 10 (including me). I think that's enough for now hehe

Everyone else can still have a say and then vote at the end for which team they feel is best. But no more entrants please.

I'll post up a list of rules and how the draft will work a bit later.

That does sound fun but let's finish the draft first, see how it goes and then we can do the extra stuff.
 
The Rules

The ODI Draft

1. There will be 6 rounds, in the first five rounds you can pick two players, in the final round you can only pick one.

2. Each of the first 5 rounds will be specific to two test playing nations. The 6th round will be specific to non-test playing nations.

3. The aim in each of the first five rounds is to pick one player each from the countries in that round. E.g. If round 1 is Australia and West India, then you must pick one of each. In the final round, you must choose a player from a non-test playing team. E.g. Afghanistan, Ireland etc etc

4. Criteria regarding the players you can pick:
- For the test playing nations, they must have played a minimum of 30 ODIs
- If you are picking someone a batsman, then he must have played a minimum of 10 ODI innings at that position
- For the non-test nations, players must have played a minimum of 10 list A and/or ODI games

5. Each round will be randomised with regards to which teams are taking part.

6. The first round will be in order of whoever posted on here first.

7. The second round will be reverse order.

8. After that point, each further round will be randomised but any one who has already had a first 3 or last 3 pick will be switched so as not to leave people with unfair advantages or disadvantages.

9. Each person will have 24 hours to take their turn, if they do not, they will be at the end of the queue.

*The reason I have used the term "test playing nation" is so that people know I am talking about the 10 "traditional" teams that have played ODI cricket the longest and historically will have produced lots and lots of international cricketers.

quick question sorry. Since I have two picks right now, do I need to select 1 Pakistani and 1 new Zealander or could I do two from one country?
 
Before I begin, I just want to say that I am a younger fan (19) and thus do not have the cricketing knowledge of past players. That being said, I know that I will make stupid mistakes and I hope I don't mess up this early.

With the first pick in the all time ODI draft, I will select perhaps the greatest bowler of all time. A lefty who would make the ball move like no other. He was a nightmare for batsmen and bowlers alike.

With the Pakistan pick, I select Wasim Akram.

I had some trouble picking a new Zealander. I needed to complement Wasim and looked to get a batsman, the first two to come to mind were Stephen Fleming and Martin Crowe, and in the end I went with the one who scored brilliantly during the era of fast pacers and in his prime one of the worlds best ODI batsmen.

With the New Zealand pick, I select Martin Crowe

1st pick has to be shoaib akhtar, the reason i got hooked on the game.

With saqlain already gone and assuming that murali and warne will go early next round, dan vettori is my other pick.

Nice picks. I was thinking who I would pick If I was in your place just now. I was caught between Anwar and KW or Anwar and Guptil. But I guess KW is the better pick in terms of reliability and performing in all conditions.
 
A lot of very good names taken, I'm holding out hope that I get to at least have one of my top 3 choices lol

Approaching 12 hours since the last picks. I suggest a limit of 24 hours for round 1. Come on captain crook chop chop

May be this could be a two week competition in which a certain number of people take part in and the winner advances to the next competition. This is a great start [MENTION=143163]dildildalwalla[/MENTION].

i would prefer if the draft order is made first. all of the draft order.

Because this way we could make our picks accordingly.

Anyone who knows shane warne is going to someone else could then take a spinner from some other country before hand to make a good combination
