This most certainly has to be up there with the best test run chases of all time. To chase over 300 needing 5 An over and to do it with 5 wickets to spare on a day 5 pitch.

Simply stunning.

Proudest day for me as a Pakistan test cricket supporter. We've won games in the past from improbable positions, but with the ball. To win this test with the bat and after all our struggles chasing targets in all forms of the game makes this especially sweet.

I just wish I wasn't at work in a meeting when the winning runs were hit.

At least in my personal opinion, this is one of the most historic and important moments in Test cricket history. One of the very best run chases ever.

Don't know about the greatest but it was very sweet seeing SL lose here after doing so much negative thing in the last hour and so.

Yes , it's one of the best for u guys certainly,I would rate windies 400 chase vs Australia,India vs windies in windies ,India vs England at bangalore chasing 380 odd etc would be right up there.

a historic win indeed, no one even thought Pakistan would consider chasing this, no one. And to add to that this is the fastest 300+ chase ever, tell you about how much the players wanted this.

Teams have chased 350/400+ beforehand, but what made this special was the RR Pakistan had to maintain and that too on a 5th day pitch.

Azhar Ali - I love you!

it was a victory of positivity over negativity.

It should be a lesson for every team including pakistan.

Nope, non chased it in 2 session s

Yeah, even Kohli would be proud of that effort if he was involved.

Lanka deserved to lose and Pakistan deserved to win. Simple as that. Ultimately test cricket has won..

This, overall cricket is the winner as its an excellent advertisement and will surely inspire many others in Pakistan to play the game based on just this match.

Shame on SL for they shallow tactics. Sure they want to win but time wasting, winging, complaining I always said they have good players but definitely the biggest cryers.

Highest run rate in chase above 300+...
Isn't that a world record?

OH HO HO!!! THAT WAS A SOUL-STIRRING RUN CHASE!!! HATS OFF!!!

One of the most astonishing test wins of all time!!! THIS IS UNREAL!!!

Fantastic boys, absolutely magical!!! Don't have words to praise this!

Amazing.

Shows that when Pakistan play aggressive cricket, we do much better.

Hats off to Misbah.

thanks to all the indian posters...you exemplify real lovers of test cricket.

Lol, don't see any today on this forum...where are you guys..need your views for todays victory....CricketJoshila..MJCricket...where are you my friends???

Great work by pakistan. I love it when I see the faces of those arrogant and boring sri lankans like sanga and mathews.

During this series all the time I thought how these lankans are 1-0 up. They surely didnt deserve that. Hats off to misbah .. My favourite after ajmal from pak team.

1 of the best run chases ever in tests. on par west indies chase of 421 against australia in 2003 & indias chase of 387 against england in 2008

amazing innings by azhar ali, sarfraz ahmed & misbah ul haq :kohli

Amazing run chase. Well played guys, deserving victors. Shame on Lanka for their tactics.

going by the BBCs coverage, this didnt even merit a banner headline. bailey being dropped for SA tour is apparently a bigger story than a once in a generation run chase. Their article bearly muster half a dozn two line paragraphs

great chase by the guys!!!! fantastic to watch, even if they failed i would not of been upset cause of the way they went bout it!

Brilliant chase by Pakistan. This is why one shoukd play positive cricket always and that is something Pakistand must take note of.Also the real face of Lankan team came out here.If they wanted to dry the run rate there were ways like bowling round the wicket into the rough bowling wide of the stumps etc and ask the batsman to take risks. But seriously these time wasting tactics was pathetic.

Great chase. Pakistan won it easily in the end. Poor cricket by Lanka.

Yeah, great chase. I don't know why you guys are letting whatmore go, he is the best thing that could have happened to Pakistan in the last couple of years.

That's a wonderful,Brilliant chase with 1-0 down in the series..But have to say it's Mathews pathetic captaincy set the tone for Pakistan. When 200 to go..in the final session..All went to boundary..Pathetic..!
COngrats..PAKISTAN...!:wasim:wasim:misbah

I am quite sure this is the best cricket chase by Pakistan in test cricket and I am sure everyone will rate as one of the prime chase in history of test cricket. It was something done with a lot of positive intent and against a team that was just playing as negative as they can be.

If it was in old times like in famous bodyline series we could have sent a telegram from dubai to Lankan fans saying " There are two teams out there, one is playing positive cricket. The other is making no attempt to do so"

I think it is very very unfair on Mathews if you just blame him, these tactics are made in dressing room with advice of coach and senior players and all have there say and mathews is just very young captain he needs good mentors to guide him properly.

Very very harsh just to blame him there are far more experienced guys around him should have guided him better.

Not attacking South Africa but they had an easier road and didn't go for the victory. I understand they lost ABDV but at the same time if you have a chance to win, I think you go for it.

Well done Pakistan. The speed and pace they chased was one of the best ever.

As the game went on, I was praying Pakistan don't pull a South Africa.

Cant believ zee didnt show the highlights because it was great game

Last hour? You mean all series!!!

I didn't watch the whole series. I watched the last hour of this test match and found it ridiculous. Fake injuries, complain about lights, slow over rates, negative bowling and some more...

I have seen many captains doing defensive things but Mathews went over board by doing all kind of things and forgot that it's just a sport. Fans will stop watching if you do such things.

Based on what I read, I don't think any team played attractive cricket in the first two tests.

It was pathetic from Smith. I absolutely hated it. No wonder, SA has a long record of not losing a test series but at the same time, not able to dominate even at home. You can never dominate if your first priority is not to lose rather than win. I am happy that Mathews was on losing side here. You don't deserve to win series if you play so negatively. I was fine with slow batting etc even though I don't like that attitude but I saw the last hour of this test. Faking injury was bit too much.

Does England's win today count as one of the greatest run chases?

It was a good one. The best by ENG that I recall was vs PAK at Headingley in 1992. That was a nail-biter. Or indeed the PAK win at Lord’s in the same series, when W&W got them over the line.

Greatest run chase still for me is Lara’s one.

The Sarwan one was a dead match rubber

Stokes’ one was against an inferior bowling line up without an ATG spinner in the 4th innings. Lyon is good but he’s no Warne.

Both great matches. I was there live for the Lord’s one. Probably the greatest day of cricket I’ve ever witnessed.

The Pak v Aus 1999 WC Headingley game comes close plus the atmosphere at the ground that day was something else

Cummins is basically The New Lillee and Hazelwood averages 25 in tests. Lyon has 400 test wickets.

Yes all very good bowlers, but not comparable to the 99 Australia bowling line up. Taking nothing away from Stokes, extraordinary innings, but Lara’s even moreso

One thing particularly impressive about the Stokes innings is the size of the final wicket partnership. 76 runs added to win the Test match after the ninth wicket went down. That’s immense.

The best runchase I ever saw was when Stokes helped England gun down 362 at Headingly three years ago. This doesn't even come close.

I would pick Stokes in Headingley and Pant in Gabba as the two best. The one in Gabba by Pant was equally special because it was a series decider on Day 5 and also we need to remember that India had to chase 328 on that day itself so the strike rate was important factor too. Pant and co had to score around 140 runs in final session in a series decider away from home in Australia in a series which was meant to be Australia's revenge of 2018.

I rate India's chase at the Gabba higher than the Stokes led chase simply because of the venues.

4 out of the 5 highest chases in England have taken place at Headingly. Also, England were playing at home . India's chase happened at the Gabba , an away venue that does not have a history of high chases and also where the home team hadn't lost in 32 years.

Lara chasing down the Aussies always stands out for me.

Stokes' Ashes innings with Leach is up there.

One chase I really enjoyed - they romped home, but what a battering. Greenidge’s chase vs England at lords 1984. He made a 300+ chase look like a walk in the park

SA run chase vs Aus in Aus was also special. Away from home in Perth, SA's first series win vs Australia after 12 years. It was majestic win led by ABD and Smith.

Ok now this one was very good.

Could be ranked pretty highly amongst the run chases in Test history.
