I've noticed this with Pooran in the IPL that, as soon as winning the match becomes an impossible task and the required run-rate goes close to 20, he suddenly begins to hit every ball out of the stadium and bats incredibly well, giving the viewers a sense of "What if.... ", but fails miserably as soon as he comes out to bat with the match being in a winnable situation. Such batsmen often tend to create a false sense of admiration and memory in the minds of the viewers which actually had very little to do with the reality.

KKR bowlers claimed regular wickets and deflated SRH's run-chase to register a comprehensive 54-run win.

Umesh Yadav removed Aiden Markram for 32 runs while Russell dismissed Sundar and Jansen as SRH went seven wickets down in the run-chase vs KKR.

Varun Chakravarthy dismissed the dangerous-looking Abhishek Sharma for 43 runs while Sunil Narine removed Nicholas Pooran for 2 runs.

Andre Russell removed Kane Williamson for 9 runs to give KKR an early breakthrough but Abhishek Sharma continued with the scoring.

Soon, Rahul Tripathi also departed to Tim Southee. SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson gave their team a steady start in chase of 178 runs for a win vs KKR.

Andre Russell hit Washington Sundar for three sixes in the final over to help KKR reach 177/6 in 20 overs vs SRH. Sam Billings and Andre Russell ushered the innings after Umran Malik struck thrice to dismiss Nitish Rana, Ajinkya Rahane and skipper Shreyas Iyer in quick succession to give SRH an upper hand in the game.

Earlier, Ajinkya Rahane and Nitish Rana batted brilliantly together and counter-attacked the SRH bowlers after going one down. Marco Jansen got KKR their first breakthrough of the innings as Venkatesh Iyer dragged one onto the stumps to fall for 7 runs.

KKR captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first against Kane Williamson-led SRH. SRH will aim to end their four-game losing streak when they take on KKR in an Indian Premier League (2022) fixture at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Saturday.

KKR, on the other hand, will look to capitalise on the momentum gained after winning vs Mumbai Indians (MI) in their previous IPL 2022 game.

Wriddhiman Saha's solid 67 not out after a top-class bowling performance set up Gujarat Titans' seven-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in the IPL on Sunday, securing a top-two finish in the team standings. Gujarat bowlers put up a clinical show to restrict CSK to a below-par 133/5 despite a fine half-century by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Saha, who struck eight boundaries and a six in his 57-ball knock, anchored the chase nicely to get Gujarat home in 19.1 overs. While CSK were already out of the play-off race, the win for Gujarat guarantees them a top-two finish on the points table in their debut season, providing them with two opportunities to reach the final.

Saha first added 59 runs in just 7.1 overs with Shubman Gill (18; 3x4) to lay the foundation of the win.

CSK tried to make a mini comeback by grabbing two quick wickets in the middle overs but it was too little and too late.

Saha, who was dropped by Ruturaj on 21, went hammer and tongs as he pummelled a listless CSK attack in the power-play.

The wicketkeeper-batter made his intent clear by striking three boundaries in the opening over off Mukesh Choudhary (0/28) and then played shots at will, including his only six in the fifth over.

However, CSK debutant pacer Matheesha Pathirana (2/24) trapped Gill in the front of the wickets in the eight over. Hardik Pandya (7) became Pathirana's second victim as Gujarat slipped to 100/3.

But with no run-rate pressure, David Miller (15 not out off 20 balls; 1x4) and Saha completed the chase without any hiccups.

Earlier, CSK lost opener Dewon Conway (5) in the third over as Mohammed Shami (2/19) gave Gujarat the first breakthrough. Shami's angled delivery from round the wicket moved away after pitching which Conway nicked it to wicket-keeper Wridhimman Saha.

Gaikwad (53 off 49 balls) first forged a 57-run second wicket stand off 39 balls with Moeen Ali (21 off 17; 2x6) and then added another 48-runs with Narayan Jagadeesan, who also struck an unbeaten 39 off 33 balls, for the third wicket.

CSK however suffered a middle-order collapse and could add only 24 runs in the last five overs.

Gaikwad, who hit four boundaries and a six, initially played with caution, as CSK crawled to 15/1 after four overs, as Hardik Pandya (0/8) and Shami did not give them a chance to free their arms.

Gaikwad then upped the ante in the fifth over, in which Yash Dayal leaked 15 runs. The right-handed batter was brutal on Dayal hammering him for two boundaries and a six over fine-leg.

In the next over, Moeen smashed two successive sixes off leg-spinner Rashid Khan (1/31), a pull and a sweep shot, as CSK added 17 runs of the sixth over and raced to 47/1 after the power-play. Gaikwad played the odd shot even as he and Ali completed the 50-run stand for the second wicket in just 32 balls.

When it looked like the duo would score big, it was left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore (1/31), who broke the stand by removing Ali, who gave a sitter to Rashid Khan at deep-mid-wicket, in the ninth over.

Jagadeesan started with a boundary, but the fall of wicket stemmed the flow of runs.

After 13 overs, CSK at 90/2, were set for a big-score.

Jagadeesan then launched into Sai Kishore (1/31), hitting him for a boundary and a maximum in the 15th over, where CSK amassed 13 runs.

But Gujarat pegged back CSK by removing Gaikwad, who was caught at deep mid-wicket and Shivam Dube (0) in quick succession as they slipped to 114/4.

The ball is coming onto the bat nicely, it's not gripping. 178 is a fighting score. We have depth in our batting, so we should be able to chase this down. There's no dew, but it's humid.

Chasing a target of 160 runs, PBKS were restricted to 142 for nine in 20 overs by Delhi with Shardul Thakur taking four wickets in four overs. Initially, a knock of 63 runs off 48 balls by Mitchell Marsh helped Delhi post 159 for seven in 20 overs.

I can’t believe this is still going on.

A tournament that lasts for longer than two months!

This year I am starting to appreciate the perspective that IPL really eats into the Northern Hemisphere season.

And still another two weeks to go!

Quinton de Kock played with exuberance for Lucknow Super Giants against Kolkata Knight Riders to score a brilliant ton in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Wednesday. He stayed unbeaten on 140 (70b, 10x6s, 10x4s) as LSG scored a massive 210/0 in 20 overs. His fellow opener and LSG captain KL Rahul stayed unbeaten on 68* (51b, 4x6s, 3x4s). When they crossed the score of 185 together, the duo's stand became the highest-ever by openers in the history of the IPL. This is also the highest-ever stand for any wicket against KKR.

de Kock's score of 140 is the highest individual score in IPL 2022. This is also the third highest-ever individual score in the history of the IPL after the 175* by Chris Gayle (RCB v PWI, Bengaluru, 2013) and a 158* by Brendon McCullum (KKR v RCB, Bengaluru, 2008).

Rahul and De Kock's stand of 210* is the third-highest ever partnership for any wicket in IPL after 229 by Virat Kohli - AB De Villiers (RCB v GL, Bengaluru, 2016) and 215* Kohli-De Villiers (RCB v MI, Mumbai , 2015).

Both Rahul and de Kock got the measure of the wicket in the powerplay, reaching 44 for no loss, before flaunting their wide range of strokes on way to their unbeaten 210-run stand.

De Kock, who was dropped by Abhijeet Tomar off Umesh Yadav in the third over, made KKR pay heavily by getting the highest score of the season.

The South African was in his elements smashing the spinners and pacers with equal disdain.

He used the pull shot against the faster bowlers and was at his innovative best against the seasoned spin duo of Sunil Narine and off-colour Varun Chakaravarthy.

Out of the sixes he hit, de Kock's reverse sweep off Narine stood out. Anything short from the pacers, de Kock was happy to put it away over deep square leg region.

The southpaw was in no mood to stop even after reaching three figures. Tim Southee was poor in the death overs as he fed balls after balls in the slot for de Kock to deposit it into the stands.

His 19th over yielded as many as 27 runs with de Kock finding the boundary at will.

Rahul watched de Kock's breathtaking knock from the best seat in the house. The skipper did not have much to do in the slog overs but he too played some sublime strokes on way to his third half century of the season.

Rahul also completed 500 runs in the tournament for the fifth season in a row. PTI KKR bowlers leaked 88 runs in the last five overs.

One of the greatest matches of the history of the IPL and well and truly the best of this season, absolutely! What an incredible match with great twists and turns literally every three-four deliveries.

I feel for Rinku. Played a brilliant innings but was undone by an absolutely stunning, stunning catch. Wow! Now, there might or might not be better catches than that, but the best advertisement of this particular catch was the reaction of his own Lucknow team and staff members. It was such a sense of disbelief on their faces that, if you were to remove the scorecard from the TV screen, you might even get the impression that it's the Lucknow team against whom the catch had been taken. De Kock, Vijay Dahiya from the staff, and many of the guys looked shocked. What an unbelievable catch by Lewis!

Comiserations to Kolkata but well done on putting up such a fight which was actually just decided by an amazing fielding effort in the end.

Lucknow Super Giants openers Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul scripted history with a massive 210-run stand on Wednesday in the Indian Premier League match against Kolkata Knight Riders. The LSG duo was too good for the opposition bowlers at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai as they shared the highest opening partnership in the tournament history. It was the first time in tournament history when a team batted 20 overs and didn’t lose a wicket.

De Kock slammed his second IPL century to register the third-highest score in tournament history - 140*. The southpaw got a life when he was 12 as debutant Abhijeet Tomar dropped his catch at the third-man but after that, it was no stopping for the former Proteas captain.

It was a forgettable night for KKR bowlers as none of them managed to pose any threat to the LSG opening duo as they registered the highest stand for any wicket against the two-time IPL champions.

Must win game for RCB. They should look to restrict GT cheaply and chase down the total with few overs to spare. Thats the only way they can qualify to the next round now.

However, it wont be easy bcoz Gujarat's bowling attack is very strong
