Gym and Fitness Advice thread!

As a student, give me examples of foods/meals I can eat. I have no allergies etc

You can eat however many times a day you want, it is of no real significance.

The only thing that matters is the quantity and quality of food you are eating.

Figure out your calorie expenditure and start eating based on that. Go here (https://www.iifym.com/iifym-calculator/) and find out how many calories you need to maintain your current weight, this is your starting point.

If you want to bulk up then eat around 2-300 calories above your maintenance. If you want to cut then eat 2-300 below your maintenance calories.

Please note that these are just estimates and real life testing is the only way to get it right.

In terms of food choices. Focus on proteins and veggies. Try and eat as much whole foods as you can rather then things in packaging.

For example chicken breasts/thighs/wings with some sort of salt/pepper/garlic/chilli topping. Then mix it on the side with some leafy green veggies, or rice, or potatoes. That's a basic meal I have everyday for lunch.

You can swap the chicken for fish or steak etc. The main thing is you figure out how much you need to be eating in order to grow without leading to too much fat gain, its a balance.

Would take him at least a year to get back to where he is right now, even with steroids. I just can't believe his luck.

Thats the problem with being a big chunky bodybuilder. You are constantly prone to injury, its really silly when you think about it. This is why i focus on being lean and fit instead of having a huge physique, it literally has no payoff other then looking good.

This guy looks like a beast but in reality is weaker than a baby!! Can't support his own body weight. Perfect illustration of someone more focussed on the show muscles than real life strength. Being big and doesn't equate to being strong.

There is a reason why mountain climbers are lean!

Looking good is my biggest goal.

You will get over getting massive as you get older.

Ive been 90kg before but too bulky, now I'm 82kg and around 10-12% all year round. I feel like I am walking on clouds all day because my weight and body fat are low. Trust me, the athletic look is way better not only for daily well being but also in attracting the girls.

Still got one more month left until I'm ready for the beach. I hate cutting.

Was spotting a guy on the bench today who pulled off 495 easily.

Never have I ever felt more weaker in my entire life.

Abs are so useless. Now that I finally have them I'm starting to feel anorexic. This is utter crap.

Once your done with cutting, up your carbs while maintaining your abs, thats when you will really start looking joocy

Shoulders + legs today as a part of 3 day split.

Really excited for the legs workout especially. #NEVERskipLegDay.

Eagle_Eye Have you ever competed at any level?

If you mean bodybuilding or lifting then No.

Owing to my army school background, I was quite fit as a youngster and played County level cricket at youth level in UK. I was never going to make it and on top, it was intensely boring brand of cricket that I grew to dislike. I preferred pakistan street style tape cricket. But I left it at 16 and didn't play for about good 10 years. When I got back into cricket and realised I am still pretty good at it is when I started lifting seriously just to get myself back into decent shape. And 12 /13 years on, that's still my primary motive for staying in shape.

Nice. Yes, I meant bodybuilding. Think I'll be the first one from here to be stepping on the stage in Toronto. Big things are happening in 2019.

It requires incredible discipline and mental fortitude, not to to forget the self confidence. All respect to you for stepping up to the challenge.

Once I'm done cutting it'll be over for you all. I will be hitting new PRs every day.

My squatting is on the lower side of the spectrum though.

Interested in knowing why Y'all started lifting? For me it was depression. The greatest motivator.

I used to be really obese, then I lost a lot of weight, improved fitness etc. Then exercising became a passion for me so I got into lifting. Hopefully over summer I can make a lot of progress, things were going on last summer so I couldn't be consistent but I'm free now till September/October as have finished Uni. This summer will consist of hopefully 1) Pakpassion 2) working - need money 3) gym

I'm now a receptionist at my home gym. Known the staff since I joined. Got hired on the spot. Life is good.

I was skinny fat before. Kind of like Sarfraz/Haris. That is the reason why looking at either of them annoys me the most They're not ready to put in the effort.

Thought you were going into policing :shezzy

Why would I choose to be a receptionist for the rest of my life? It's a part-time, minimum wage job. :danish

I'm going to college first for a two-year degree in Police Foundations.

Hi guys,

I started to be strict with my gym and diet in the past 1.5 weeks. Weight has gone down from 80kgs to 76.5kgs; goal is 72/ 73kgs. Look and feel good but need to focus on islolation exercises soon to build my arms. My chest is pretty strong as i have maxed out 36Kgs dumbbells on an incline bench with very little help. Going for the athletic look and in shallah should be near my goal in 2 weeks or so #StartofRamadhan.

For anyone interested; I work out twice a day. I do cardio in the morning and weights at late night. I have a days rest after every 4 days of workout. I follow a strict protein based diet with limited carbs for energy. I do not eat after 7PM and I go hardcore in my diet and gym. It has not been very hard for me as i have been going gym for ten years now so always had good stamina and was able to lift heavy.

Good luck everyone! Dont give up and keep going :)

10 years consistently? Your incline should be a lot higher.

Well not really consistently. And my aim was always damage control as my diet was always really bad. Plus, I am one of the people who does a lot of supersets so going really, really heavy was not always my goal :)

How is everyone going to function in ramadhan? Being from the UK, we have 18 hours fasts. Thinking to do some cardio half an hour before the fast opens and then hitting the weights after the fast opens :)

Nevermind. Just got called fat today by a girl I've known for a while. I considered her a good friend before but what kind of disrespectfulness is that? I'mma have to fight her now once. :danish

What type of foods do you guys meal prep? Last summer I wasted sitting around feeling sorry for myself, I really regret it in general tbh. I've finished Uni so I can devote a lot of time to gym and this is my best chance to make gains this summer and don't start uni again till late september/early october.

I dont really meal prep but I eat loads of chicken, brown rice, fish, fruits (Pineapple), potatoes, tuna, chickpeas, youghart and vegetables some times. I keep things simple and I am happy with that.

I tend not to over eat as I hate the concept of over eating and supplying the body more then it needs. I also air fry most my meat and make sure that the protein is the main item in my plate.

I dont really meal prep anymore unless I am looking to get below 10%.

But when I did it was something like this. Buy a kilo of chicken breast, a kilo of rump steak, bag of potatoes, bag of pasta (doesn't matter if its white or brown), a bag of spinach, a carton of eggs, a tub of vanilla ice cream, a big of rolled oats, a tub of low carb chocolate protein and some blueberries and strawberries.

Then I would just mix and match these throughout the week.

For example
breakfast: rolled oats mixed with chocolate protein, blueberries and strawberries.
lunch: Steak with roasted potatoes and spinach
Dinner: marinated chicken breast with pasta and spinach
snack: bowl of ice cream with strawberries

It's disgusting how the society glorifies fat people. The fact that International No Diet Day exists in the first place is boiling my blood, although it's everyday for some. :sarf2

May 2017 = 185 S. May 2018 = 375 S.

I'm on a different level now.

Regardless of bizarreness of how fast he got these results, It's amazing how fitness is connected to performance, he turned around as a player just by getting stronger.

possible, the nba doesn't test for that i think. People have suggested that LeBron and Wade have been on hgh, explaining why LeBron is a freak of nature. Apparently hgh widens your face and jaw which is why people sus that wade is one it lol.

No matter how much you exercise or have crazy diet it is not physically possible to go from an average kid to a UFC fighter-esque physique in three weeks.

It's bit of camera trickery. He's not an average kid in before picture. He has pretty much the same muscle mass, he's lost lot of water and some fat. There are many ways of manipulating that and yes it can be done. The tricky part is not to lose the muscle mass and make them look fuller.... if you read around the subject, you will find the answer.

Nothing is worse than your relatives always asking you to do manual labor for them. Anytime anyone needs help moving their furniture why am I always the go-to person? I'm not your servant, goddamnit.

Well at least all those muscles are being put to good use. (What my mother used to say to me in a smilar situation)

I might just have to call my boys on my relatives the next time they ask me for a favor. They need a good beating.

Met one of my oldest friends yesterday after a while. Back in the olden days, he was the only guy I knew who could actually give me a tough time when it came to lifting. He was what you consider an alpha male. He was in a better shape than I was, veins flowing through his body but we both benched the same amount, deadlifted the same amount, he could squat more than me because I used to be a wimp who'd skip legs. I'm just a different breed now.

One day he just woke up and decided that was it for him. He's lost every single thing now. I was sad, angry, and confused all at the same time. How can you be so stupid? I was ready to beat the living hell out of him.

Here's the funniest part; he's still in a "decent" shape because if you end up comparing him to everyday people like Sarfraz, what are you expecting? I'm using the word decent loosely here.

Forgot to mention that we even played Kabaddi together. He was the nastiest guy ever but his knees gave up eventually.

Finally have built up the courage to go for the prestigious 500 tomorrow. Either I'm going to break the barrier, or my back because things sometimes go wrong. :mc

It's funny, I've heard stories like this from other people, seen it in movies. Two friends who start off in one field, couple years down the line one of them goes to **** the other becomes successful, cue heartfelt reunion.

Happened to me with cricket, where my best friend at the time who was 10 same as me at the time, we were both the best players in the junior circuit. In the next 7 years I gained weight, got lazy and he got in better shape and got in the U19 team. We didn't really see each other in that period. When I was 17 and we reconnected after a very long time I was both proud of him and saddened at how I'd let myself go. Bare in mind this was in Qatar so obviously competition in cricket wasn't crazy high, but still a pretty sizable desi community. That was the awakening for me, since then I've pushed myself and while I don't like comparing myself to others, naturally being a competitive personality I never want to let myself go to the point that I'm left behind by my peers, and not just in staying in shape.

Finally have built up the courage to go for the prestigious 500 tomorrow. Either I'm going to break the barrier or my back because things sometimes go wrong. :mc

I go for it. The bar comes off the ground nicely. My form is smooth. It's finally happening and the adrenaline is just rushing through me.

Time to bring it down and the bar rolls out. Now I have got a scraped shin. Not counting this.

Got really sad over the weekend when I realized I'm getting a bit of a belly and losing definition in my arms and chest region. Also used to have two upper packs visible for a good 5-6 years but that's no longer the case. Haven't been to the gym in 5-6 months due to work, study and life commitments. I went into mild depression seeing the regression of my fitness as I had always prided myself on being a natural athlete and was a regular to the gym throughout my undergrad. Heck at one point I was fit enough to make the squad of the McGill varsity soccer side. Although I never made the first eleven and had to leave the squad after a year or so due to academic needs but still every tom, dick or harry isn't fit enough to be in the squad.

I still can't spare time to go the gym, but from now on I have decided that I will only have fruit chaat during lunch, which means I'll essentially skip a meal. No more pizzas or burgers (or maybe just once in two weeks :uakmal)

This is unusual for me since I used to be fit just by going to the gym or participating in sports and never really had to care about what I ate, but lack of physical activity and slowing metabolism have both resulted in me starting to get a belly. Life happened.
