Hadiqa Kiyani's recent song on Kashmir — which was released in collaboration with Turkish singer Ali Tolga as a tribute on Kashmir Martyrs' Day and the failed coup attempt in Turkey — was taken down by YouTube on Thursday.

Following the move by YouTube, the veteran singer took to Instagram where she termed it as another attempt of "systemic silence" and said that these tactics would not subdue the voices raised for the rights of Kashmiris.

"Our tribute to Kashmir was removed from YouTube a few hours ago," the Boohe Barian singer posted on Instagram. "There seems to be a systematic silencing taking place but we will not be silenced because our message is of love and peace."

Moreover, Kiyani informed her Instagram followers that Kashmir Civitas, an international civil society committed to the rights of the Kashmiris, was "actively working to re-upload the video."

The new song 'Daimi Bahar', translated as eternal spring, is a lyrical tribute that was primarily written in Turkish with a few bits in Urdu. The song gives an overview of both Turkey and Kashmir's sacrifice through gripping visuals.

But seriously, there are a multitude of ways Youtube can be made to remove stuff you don't like. Pakistan themselves have played around with Youtube in the past. Muslims have also taken advantage of the company's terms to remove allegedly objectionable material. The easiest way to manipulate Youtube is to use Hate Speech and coerce them to remove videos.

But having looked at this lady's Insta and making a very biased judgment call on how serious an activist she seems - I wouldn't be surprised if the reasons for the video's removal do not emanate from India. Rather, some copyright or other issue.

I do not think she is an activist as such. She is a singer and quite frankly one of the very few good ones currently. She might not have the fame that some others might have but her art would make a memory more often than current batch of musicians.

On topic, as you pointed out it could be removed due to variety of issues and we can only make a statement once we know the actual reason for removal.

Absolute madness - this is stifling freedom for the heck of it.

This is huge! Big enough for Pakistani government to move towards banning Google / Alphabet altogether

No reason Pakistani entrepreneurs can't build local video sharing websites, search engines. Pakistan's is huge market, there will be massive investment available. There is a ton of technical talent to have the entire infrastructure, starting from data centres
