"Haider Ali should be more sensible in his approach" : Inzamam-ul-Haq

Kid has potential. He is only 20. Who knows, he can come back stronger like Rohit Sharma did. But he definitely needs to play domestic cricket, improve his range of shots, especially on the off-side, and learn to build an innings (while not giving up his aggressive batting).

Expecting a finished product at 20 is foolish.

Up & downs for a young player is expected especially for one that hasn't played a whole lot of domestic and is facing top International calibre players on a consistent basis. It will be good for him to take this all in, go into the domestic season and put work in fixing his technical flaws.

Where have i said he should be a finished product Please stop making things up on my behalf Fact is like many pakistanis hes debuted with a bang and now is falling rapidly by the way side He needs to think and take stock of how he wants his career to go

He shouldnt be playing t20s or these leagues full stop Its not helping him get any better If hes serious about wanting to become a better polished intnl batsman he needs to focus on the longer format not on the pyjama cricket whicb will ruin him like it has countless before him

Worrying shot selection during CPL with some horrible slogs.

You have to respect the bowling, especially early in your innings, but Haider seems to have forgotten to do that.

He shouldn't have been playing as a overseas pro in a T20 league at this stage of his career anyway. Terrible idea on multiple fronts.

40 off 25 for Northern vs South Punjab - should really be finishing games for Northern

53* off 29 so far - Haider Ali flying high at the National T20 Cup

Drop Azam Khan from WC squad and pick the classy Haider Ali.

Playing a fantastic knock currently.

91* off 53 to win his team the match by chasing 201 against the likes of Hassan Ali, Wahab Riaz, Faheem Ashraf, Usman Qadir and Ehsan Adil.

No, let him grind it out in domestic cricket. One innins should never catapult you to the national team.

Haider and Naseem are two talents that should be made to earn their cap now. These lads are decent players and need to have their temperaments in check when they play international cricket.

Haider Ali 91* today vs CP - some sizzling shots:

I have to agree - Bowling was so bad today on a flat track. Haider is not international class yet

Yh both need a couple of seasons of cricket behind them

Theyre talented but very raw n inconsistent Theres no point putting them in the fire and seeing them burn

Their time will come. We just need to be patient and let them develop first

I’d agree with you IF Pakistan had a team like England or India, but since he’s playing for Pakistan then even one performance is good enough to get you into a team that consists of Azam Khan, Sohaib Maqsood, Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah.

He should be picked for the WT20, we know what he can do and we know he’s not worse than the players I mentioned

Good to see him hitting form but to me, he still looks very very legside heavy. Even the shots he hits towards off don't come across as natural and he continues to clear his leg instead of pressing it towards the ball.

I'm concerned that international quality bowlers will find him out way tok quickly.

3 out of his last 4 innings have been:

58* off 41 balls
40 off 27 balls
91* off 53 balls

Too late for the T20 World Cup?

He proved his international credentials in the one match he got against England last year. Don’t know what happened to him after that.

I think he’s definitely a better option than Asif Ali and Azam Khan or even Khushdil.

I think for his development he needs to play more of these innings, where his innings wins the game. From what I have seen of him, he isnt the sharpest and his game awareness needs to improve

Unless he goes the Umar Akmal route, I find it very hard to believe that this kid won't be a massive star for us in the future.

He's not there yet (obviously) and has alot of stuff in his game that he needs to work on. Other stuff he will learn himself from experience. But one thing he desperately needs is to be backed properly.

I feel like alot of times we are quick to blame young players when failing is something anyone is prone to. Especially someone young trying to make his way. If a young player has so obviously shown you glimpses of brilliance (even if they are few and far between) you need to do your part as selectors or coaches to believe in him and continually giving him chances. This ofcourse does not apply to someone like Azam Khan who has shown no such glimpses and is purely playing on nepotism. But it does apply to Haider. It does apply to Naseem. And it probably applies to alot of other young players too.

I feel like that's one of the things that sets us apart from top teams. England identified Ollie Pope at the age of 5. He went through all the age groups from England. And even now when he has what? one century and a mediocre average in the 30s, he is still backed because they believe he will be a future star for them. Kane Williamson was identified when he was 14. And let's not forget he averaged something like 30 in his first 22 test matches.

I'm not gonna jump on the T20 "select this guy" bandwagon.

But if there is any young batsman who deserved to be there its him. Not Azam Khan. Not Khushdil Shah.

I'm not saying he should be included in the squad now. Because except for a handful of guys who absolutely have to be dropped, I feel like its important to give the guys---who have already been selected---confidence. But it would be a real shame if Haider Ali isn't given more consistent chances for Pakistan in the future. Even if he takes time to find his feet on the international level.

The guy hasn't shown many brain cells but let's hope I am wrong.

Who's your backup keeper if Rizwan gets injured? His spot is more with Khushdil & Asif IMO. Maybe Hafeez if he is not fit to go. Pakistan will really lack any lefties in the middle order if they drop Khushdil though.

Nonetheless, great to see Haider Ali performing well like we all expect. He is an excellent talent and just needs some time. Hope the good performances continue and he plays plenty of FC matches this season to really fix his technical/mental issues.

There's no need for a backup keeper to be selected in the final 15 when they can be part of the travelling reserves. How often does a keeper get injured during a short tournament anyway? No need to keep Azam there if it means losing out on a potential spot for Haider.

I don’t know if you have been following but Rizwan has been getting injured nearly every other game I watch. He manages to pull through but he isn’t 100% immune from avoiding injury

Welcome back to form. Really want Haider to make it at international level. One of my favourite young player to look out for in the future.
