Handover the captaincy to Salman Butt after the WT20 2016

No, No and No. A convicted cheat. Sarfaraz Ahmed should be given the opportunity as the next captain.

Don't think the OP is trolling, strange things happen in Pakistan cricket.

Don't be surprised when you see Sohail Tanvir lead the T20 side in 2017/18

Having Butt back in the side is one thing, having him back as captain? no thanks.

I considered you to be a smart poster but boy was I wrong.

Expected better from you to be honest. Calling for a fixer and a sell out to become captain of the Pakistan. Can we go any lower?

Was there any clause in his punishment term that he won't ever captain his side? If yes then I take my words back. If no then if the need arises PCB shouldn't hesitate in making him the captain and treat him like any other clean person as he has been punished. I believe in a second chance. We shouldn't degrade an already punished person anymore.

Yeah the self respect and dignity clause.

Why the fixer? He was the captain at that time ? Salesman sold his nation and he wasn't as talented as Amir or asif and he is 32 anyways

To be fair akram captained many times post qayyum report. This country has a history of bringing back convicts.why stop at butt considering he has served his punishment. Same measuring stick we've used for amir

Really?

80 % chance are sarfraz will be next T20 Captain and I think he will also replace Azhar Ali in ODI As well.

Butt was/is just a mediocre batsman. It's difficult for him to even get selected again as a player on merit, let alone become a captain, it's out of question.

If Tanvir is made the captain, we should officially announce the death of cricket and stop playing all international cricket.

This thread.... shows again (as if the history of this country is not enough) that the PEOPLE of this country are responsible for the state in which it is in. Not anyone else.

Handing over the captaincy to a person who was the captain at that time and then decided to sell off his country for a few dollars?

What a wonderful idea!!!!

Is this a troll thread?

Even if we put aside Butt's fixing past, you cannot overlook the fact that Butt was an average captain bordering on poor. He won't be a huge upgrade on Afridi.

I am just suggesting it on the basis of his previous incomplete stint and that he was a captaincy material. He will still possess that brain. There will be many positive modifications for sure.

captaincy material is irrelevant- Imran Khan and Inzamam are also captaincy material, why not make them captain?

the fact is he hasn't played international cricket in almost 6 years, he cant even justify a place in the A team, let alone captain of the International team

You have your own respectable views. I was just suggesting it in a way.

Yes why not. No need to degrade him any further.

Degrade him any further? The guy sold his country off when he was the captain of the team. He shouldn't be picked for any team for domestic cricket, let alone International cricket.

Well that should have been decided at that time in 2010. Now that he has been punished for 5 years, he is acceptable.

So OP is suggesting that the captaincy should be handed over on a platter to a guy who has been out of cricket for how long...?

Nope, I don't think there should be any big role for the trio if they want to play as a team member that is fine but no captaincy position for them. When we can find Misbah we can find another good brain too. Sarfaraz is a perfect person for captaincy if there is no political issues regarding karachi player.

Salman Butt was a good captain, he was set to lead the team in all formats for a long time but threw it away.

It is pretty obvious that Sarfraz will replace Afridi as captain, which of course is not an ideal situation by any means.

However, he is likely to return as a player after the retirement of Afridi. It seems as if that's the only thing holding him back.

What if Sarfraz also object against Salman Butt's return as Afridi did?

What captaincy potential are you guys on about ? Did you watch the 2010 England tour ?

In case peoples' memories need refreshing, he was the guy who thanks to his pathetically defensive fields in the deciding Lords Test allowed England to recover from 102-7 to 446 all out. He also batted first at Edgbaston on a greentop when everyone knew our inexperienced batting lineup would get demolished which it did.

And that's not to mention his role in spot fixing which disqualifies him of any captaincy role. A lazy attempt at trolling here.
Regarding those 2 things you mentioned above (defensive fielding setup at Lords and batting first on a greentop at Edgbaston); how sure are you that they were not because of spot fixing?

Sells out country as captain and yet he should return? We Pakistani fans are very desperate aren't we?

Unfortunatley it seems we are as we have people playing xxxs games with average of less than 25 but leading from the front.

You missed the point I made in the previous post. We've had corrupt captains before. Why stop now. Suddenly we have morals
so if we were doing wrong things before we should continue to do those wrong things?

If we use your logic then since our forefathers were doing idol worshiping so we should have continue to do idol worshiping and not believe in 1 God (Astaghfirullah)

Its not that he cant justify a place in the A team. Its down to the PCB and selecters wether they have the minerals to select Butt or Asif for A team

I don't know whether it was corruption or incompetence, I've no proof of the former so don't wish to level any accusations but the latter doesn't speak well of Butt either.

Sadly for him, and Pakistan, the day did not end in the rousing fashion it had begun. Butt missed a trick when Amir and Asif had England under the cosh before lunch. Instead of having fielders at vital close-in positions such as a third or fourth slip, an extra gully and a short leg, Butt showed his inexperience by wasting men at thirdman, deep point and deep square-leg. The wilting English hearts suddenly started swelling with hope and by the end of the day it was England who held the edge in the final Test. "If we were 110 all out this Test series would end two-all," said Stuart Broad, who got his name on the honours board at Lord's with a maiden Test century.

Salman Butt had gone on the defensive too early with England still in deep trouble after the seventh wicket fell and the support bowling of Riaz and Ajmal wasn't the same threat as at The Oval.

I agree. Although enemies of Pakistan plotted a perfect plan to put Butt into the hate list by exposing their wrong deeds. People of Pakistan must realize that Butt is their best option and they should not make it weak but bringing on the moral brigade.

Having Salman Butt return of Captain is ludicrous. Yes, its a good trait to show mercy towards those who've done their time but in this case the remorse shown by this person over the 5 year period has to be taken into account, which with Mr Butt is very very little.

No country in the world would do something like this. Its like having a person convicted of Corruption becoming Prime Minister, no country would ever do that.

(oh no wait...! )

Loooool what a thread! 0% chances of him being a captain! Yes he will play for Pakistan but he won't be considered as a captain! Can we close this thread before PCB reads all this hungama

Just Amazing!

For me his biggest crime was the way he continued to claim his innocence, shout conspiracy and make comments against his team mates while working as a pundit on tv channels.

That was added insult but for him to have done all that considering his back ground was enough to curse him for life from me!

Plus, it is not as if he was Bradman reincarnate even when he was at the top of his game back then...was always a fidgety, confused, nervous, train wreck of a player except when playing against India (mostly) and Australia (sometimes)

Sarfraz is right in the team, take off the tinted (corrupt loving) glasses

Sarfraz may be good for Tests but not for limited overs cricket. He struggles to hit big. He has weak six-hitting skills. You should also take off your tinted glasses and see for yourself that Butt has been already punished.

but you have confidence in a spot fixer who as captain also roped in 2 of our finest?

I am just suggesting a person who has been punished already and is now clean. He is not a spot fixer anymore. He has been punished already. Why can't you guys see this?

Do you even remember how many months did it take for Butt to admit his mistake?

I bet even at this point if he had power he would have denied that he was guilty.

Forget about captaincy. He is not fit to play T20 neither his style of batting is!

Fine. Was suggesting his name only just because I don't have any confidence in others when it comes to captaincy.

I think you don't understand what captaincy of your national team means

It's a prestigious honour that's given to someone deserving

The captain is the countries representative on the intnl stages and he should be a leader of men

Most captains are of impeccable character and command their cricketers respect

You really think Butt fits these criteria's?

Look I only suggested his name just because I don't see other good options, and also he has already been punished. He is clean now. If the need arises, he can be allotted the captaincy role. And we shouldn't feel ashamed about it or think that the country's honour will be at risk, because he has tasted the punishment. I don't see that happening but still we should not hold grudges anymore after his punishment.

It will be surprising, because he doesn't seem the type of personality who would defy the Chairman and selectors.

last of the stars - butts role was disappointing - he had a privileged upbringing compared to most Pakistanis (private school, upper middle class household etc - and he choose to cheat given this & the fact he was captain.
The worse thing about this for me was he got his sister to lie also.
If you can sell your family out like this you have to question this guy coming back let alone being captain.

I respect your opinion but Salman Butt after what he did I personally don't think so that he should be the captain.

Yes, you have your own respectable views.

reality check for Butt fans: He will ALWAYS be a convicted spot fixer. ALWAYS .

This man still hasn't actually admitted he did anything wrong, he keeps claiming that "if i" did anything wrong, please forgive me.If i? He does not have the decency to admit that he definetely did something disgraceful.

How many more scandals do you actually need? Do you not realise that Pakistan cannot afford any more controversy and scandals especially in the face of international isolation? Do you want to make us an even bigger laughing stock than we are now?

he is really a shameless person that he involved his sick father (who said 'Hang me if my son is guilty') and his sisters to come on tv and make a case for him and protest his innocence

Akram was not found guilty and there was ZERO evidence found against him for match fixing.

Only a recommendation was made that he should not hold senior posts in the future. But it was only a recommendation and not binding. Butt went to jail for a crime he was found guilty of in a court of law

so just because you made a mistake and took a wrong decision before you shouldnt try to change your ways for the better?

I'm sorry, but this is factually incorrect.

Ataur Rehman gave evidence that Wasim Akram paid him to fix, but later reversed his evidence and so was convicted of lying on oath and banned for life.

Only for it to later emerge that he told other people that he changed his evidence in return for a bribe.

If you accept that Rehman's original evidence was true, but that he was later bribed to change it, then the case against Wasim Akram is devastating. It would mean two bribes, the second of which was apparently to pervert the course of justice.

No. You making up a complicated backstory does not change that facts.

Fact 1 : No concrete evidence was found against Wasim Akram which deemed him guilty of match fixing.
Fact 2: Akram was not punished for fixing. Any fine was due to lack of cooperation to an extent which satisfied the Commission.
Fact 3: A recommendation regarding future of Wasim Akram in terms of leadership position was made. A recommendation is just a recommendation and has no legal basis.

yes please handover captaincy to Butt ... bowlers should be asif amir and kaneria .. keeper should be kamran akmal ... batting coach salim malik bowling coach wasim akram .... and it will be super if we can get srinavasan as PSL chairman

so just because you made a mistake and took a wrong decision before you shouldnt try to change your ways for the better?
That statement applies to salman butt as well. And if he does change for e better. Should he not even be considered to lead

No way. Malik is rare Pakistani batsman who is street smart. Though he is not a world beater but we need him.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No we don't need him. He is 33 now, and must hang his boots after the WC. He is occupying a place which should belong to a proper batsman.

Atta ur rehman must be feeling really bad after reading this thread , the poor boy had no support at all.

Butt can play for Pakistan but if he ever leads Pakistan again then i will stop supporting Pakistan team.

People would see us as a joke if that ever happened.

It was just a suggestion. Don't bother to post here if you don't like such threads.

It is not personal bhai- just stating my thoughts about the production of useless OTT threads.
Feel free to continue doing this, but I do genuinely think that PP should have some facility where they filter threads on production.

Sorry if you were offended

I thought before creating this thread. I thought now that Butt has already been punished, so suggesting such a thing is fair enough.

This is a troll thread. Butt has no chance in hell to ever captain any team again.

Azhar, Sarfraz, and Shafeeq are the three most important players for PCB and captain/vice captain will be chosen from among them.

dont know hoe you came to that conclusion

Hopefully youve realised now that its not a sensible suggestion

Not in my wildest dreams did I think someone would suggest this.
A captain who sold out his country. He should never be allowed anywhere near the International team.
Domestic he should now be allowed.

I think this should be the management team for next world cup:

Salim Malik: Coach
Butt: Captain

I can also suggest Faisal Iqbal as next captain. Will it not be trolling?

This doesn't make any sense. Butt was in contention for the WC but according to some sources Afridi rejected him. It means he is in the radar of the selectors, so suggesting for his captaincy makes sense as he can be selected in the team after the WC unlike Faisal who is not even in the radar of the selectors.

And that is why so many posters replied with their arguments just like you took the bait. I hope you got the point.

I think Salman Butt should take over from Afridi in T20Is after the WC. His previous captaincy stint was incomplete, and where he did show some glimpses of a thinking man who understood the game well.

I know he hasn't played any domestic T20 games, but still he clicked in the List A games, and his T20 record is decent, also he has many shots in his book as he is not a one sided hack, so he will click.

As far as the ODIs are concerned, if Azhar's failures continue as a captain then Butt should take over from him as well.

In Tests, post Misbah, he should be the automatic choice.

He can play for at least next 5 years, which will cover the upcoming two World Cups.

P.S: Moral brigade should stay away as he has been punished already.

What a shame! People nowadays hands over a country's responsibility over the man who sold out his own country.

Aamir was young who was bluffed by his friend come elder brother Salman Butt (referring to Aamir's interview with Micheal Atherton). He is forgiven. But Butt cannot be forgiven by any means.
