Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul suspensions 'lifted with immediate [Post #441]

India has a huge sexual assault problem. Last thing it needs is for its stars to promote women as objects of men desires.

He did not sexually assault anyone. Everything is consensual.

2 Grownups who want to have sex is frowned upon by the society and he needs to apologize

That's not the point.

BCCI is a business and it's expected to maintain a certain image as a national organization. You have brands such as Oppo, Nike, Paytm, Star, Pepsi, and Hyundai that pay big money to be related to Indian cricket. And Pepsi is already on edge after the fixing issues (IPL 2013).

If customers start associating the BCCI with misogyny/vulgarity, these brands are going to eventually drop their sponsorships.

Yes, you can question whether or not Pandya's comments deserve scrutiny but the response is there for everyone to see. A good chunk of Indian fans (especially women) didn't like it and in the end, customers are always right.

Good points you made. It is all about the image and BCCI will surely have a quite word with the players.

why should this even be a debate. there should be zero tolerance for beghairatmunds. the root of evil is bollywood, and cricketers are getting exposed to adultery and sins by their association with this pathetic lowlife cesspit of an industry. kill the serpent and others will fall into place.

These guys are going to be outcasts in the locker room. You think Rohit Sharma who just had a daughter, Anushka Sharma, other cricketers with wives and young children want their husbands to be associated with these two.

Fair point. Brand Kohli and Sharma is the hottest selling brands in India. It would be suicide for them to be associated with this.

What one does in private life is no ones concern. But when you are a brand a representative of Indian cricket, you need to know when and where to shut your mouth.

Inappropriate comments have cast a shadow over India’s Test celebrations and ODI preparations, with Virat Kohli making his displeasure clear, as Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul face suspension amid a sexism scandal.

Kohli is yet to hear from India’s board whether Pandya, a gun all-rounder who is normally an automatic selection in India’s one-day team, is free to play Saturday’s SCG series opener.

Pandya and Rahul’s recent appearance on an Indian talk show, during which the former had detailed how he had bragged to his parents about losing his virginity, has created a storm in their homeland.

Every Test, ODI, T20I, and BBL match live. SIGN UP NOW!

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is under mounting pressure to take swift action, having issued both players with show-cause notices.

Kohli distanced himself and his team from the views that Pandya and Rahul, who was unlikely to play this weekend regardless, had expressed about women.

“From the Indian cricket team point of view, any inappropriate comments that are made in that scenario are something that we definitely don’t support,” Kohli told reporters.

“The two concerned players felt what has gone wrong and they have understood the magnitude.

“It has to hit anyone hard; they will definitely understand the things that have not gone right.

“These are purely individual opinions ... we definitely, as the Indian cricket team, do not support views like that and that has been communicated.”

Debate is raging among bigwigs at the BCCI, a conservative institution, about what punishment should be handed down.

A two-match ban appears most likely, although BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry has used the example of Steve Smith and David Warner in flagging the prospect of tougher penalties.

Smith and Warner were barred from taking part in last year’s Indian Premier League after the Cape Town cheating scandal.

There won’t be an Indian selection meeting about the SCG clash until their board provides an update.

“You have to adjust with the situation,” Kohli said.

“We need to go out there and play cricket. All these external factors are not going to derail our motivation or the preparation for the World Cup.”

Kohli insisted the saga had not taken the shine off India’s maiden Test series win in Australia.

“Definitely not going to dampen anything that we’ve achieved,” he said.

Jasprit Bumrah, the top-ranked ODI bowler in the world, who dismantled Australia in the recent Test series, has been rested from the three one-dayers.

Swing king Bhuvneshwar Kumar, overlooked throughout the Test series, headlines the list of touring quicks keen to make their mark.

His comments were misogynistic, there wasn't 2 adults having sex but 1 school dropout not knowing how to behave and basically bragging about his conquests.

If pandya were a westerner he would be criticized for those comments by white people too especially given the current attitude towards misogyny.

Don't think it should be called misogyny. it is philogyny.

Suspended till further notice pending inquiry.

This is utter nonsense.

And K L Rahul did nothing wrong.

I wonder why no one said a thing about the host KJo?

If anyone has watched the show almost every episode is full of sexist misogynistc comments.

So no freedom of speech for Pandya? Why?

Its ok to associate brands with Salman Khan,Sanjay Dutt or Sidhu but poor Pandys must be punished.

Did Bcci punish Azhar for having a extra maritial affair with Sangeeta Bijlani?

They can do what they want in their private lives. But they need to know how to represent the brand. Salman Khan or Sanjay Dutt, do not belong to any corporate entity. HArdik Pandya does. If BCCI cares how its image is perceived, then it is within its rights to take whatever action it feels is needed.

If Hardik Pandya wants to maintain its freedom of speech, then he needs to divorce himself from BCCI.

Sidhu belongs to another political (similar to corporate) entity and if his political entity is not happy with his actions, they can choose to reprimand him.

All I am saying, if I were Kohli, I would not want to be associated by Hardik Pandya. For the next few months (until this topic dies), you will not see Kohli talking how awesome Pandya is.

Sidhu was an accused in a culpable homicide case and continued to play for India.

For years Mallya was associated with RCB. Where was the imagd then?

Why was Azhar made captain despite his much publicised extramaritial affair?

Why is Shami in the team? He is facing actual police cases. Or his affairs are not to be touched?

Why was Sahara allowed to be sponsor despite facing cases in the supreme court that ultimately led to jail of Subroto Roy?

Was Tendulkar punished for his association with home trade.com or Dhoni for his association with Amrapali group?

Pandya is being punished because Bcci is led by two absolute no bodies who give in at the sight of a little pressure. And because Pandya is a small fry.

Bcci legal team said these two cannot be punished as they havent broken any laws. So suspend them citing "Pending Enquiry".

Freedom of speech is a limited right, people have gotten sacked for making stupid statements online, a 2 match ban is fair considering you are supposed to be role models. I agree with the rahul part though the poor guy did nothing just being there shouldn't mean punishment,

Also none of sidhu or Salman were bcci employees and shami wasn't given contract when his personal life stories came out, same rules apply here.

I wonder why no one said a thing about the host KJo?

If anyone has watched the show almost every episode is full of sexist misogynistc comments.

Karan Johar is a certified idiot though. His 'next' cheesy comment doesn't surprise or offend anybody.

Sidhu and Azhar operated in different times now similar cases will be dealt very differently these days.

Mallya's problems had nothing to do with bcci, it was his company they dealt with which iirc was sold to someone else.

Shami wasn't given a contract for a while due to his off field issues.

Advertising for 2 companies that went bankrupt has nothing to do with the 2 cricketers, there was nothing that wither did that led to problems.

Also Sahara chief's public problems started in 2014 when he was jailed until then it was a sebi dispute can't really stop companies from sponsoring because they have issues with the regulator.

Could somebody tell me what Rahul did wrong? I have not watched the episode. It is all Pandya, but somehow Rahul is caught in the crossfire

Sidhu was not a bcci employee? So he played for Indian team just like that?

Shami's contract was with held he was not suspended.

Pandya signed up to play cricket and not a role model for anyone's kid. Pandya's personal life is no one's business unless he is convicted of something.

Karan Johar is a certified idiot though. His 'next' cheesy comment doesn't surprise or offend anybody.

So he is on prime time television.

I tell you why he gets away, because no one can do a thing about it. Feminists can keep whining. Same with Salman or Sanjay Dutt and so many others.

No they will not be dealt any differently because no court found them guilty. Bcci cannot punish them for things court did not.

Mallya was a defaulter who owned and operated a IPL team and continued to appear on the bcci tournament till he fled India. But apparently thats fine.

Shami was never suspended. He was given the contract saying bcci has nothing to do with his personal lives. Diana Eduljee and Vinod Rai were blasted in a bcci meetimg by a ex Indian captain for with holding Shami's contract.

Oh you have no idea what the parliamentary committee says about advertising for dubious companies.

"The consumers tend to believe such advertisements promoted by eminent personalities or celebrities blindly. However, when the unfair trade practices are exposed the celebrities are quick to disassociate themselves with the products and companies they were hitherto representing. The Committee strongly feels that misrepresentation of a product, especially a food product, should be taken very seriously considering the influence of celebrities and high networth individuals or companies,” the standing committee has said."

Sahara chief was jailed in 2014, because despite SC orders he kept defaulting on his payments.

Bcci legal team said these two cannot be punished as they havent broken any laws. So suspend them citing "Pending Enquiry".

Fair enough.

But you wont see Kohli backing Pandya as much as he has been doing it so far. Kohli is very image conscious, and rightly so. He would not have have his brand tarnished by being too close to Pandya.

Half of the #Meetoo allegations were proven false. The recent example being the allegation labelled against Kamal Nath. So what femeinists says, I take it with a pinch of salt. Their double standard is exposed long time ago. They had nothing to say against the inappropriate comments made by Deepika Padukone on the same show.

I repeat Pandya and Rahul did nothing wrong. This was not a ban offence for heavens sake. If anything, Karan Johar's show should be banned which spreads vulgarity regularly.

Pandya is 2nd best all rounder in the world and a key player for our world cup chances. Shame on COA for banning a player of such calibre just bcoz few feminists/wrist slitters found it offensive.

Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul suspended pending inquiry; to be issued fresh show cause notices

NEW DELHI: Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul were on Friday suspended pending an inquiry into their outrage-evoking comments on women during a TV show, ruling them out of the ODI series against Australia starting Saturday.
The cricketers, who have been in the eye of a storm following their sexist remarks on 'Koffee with Karan', were omitted from the line-up for the opening match in Sydney.

"Both Pandya and Rahul have been suspended pending an inquiry," the Committee of Administrators (CoA) chairman Vinod Rai told PTI.
A source in the BCCI said the two will be issued fresh show cause notices before a formal enquiry begins.

Unless you are talking about the Sikh riots for which he is not charged..

Mallya was not a wilful defaulter until 2014, Diageo were the largest shareholders in 2013 of RCB owners United Spirits, so not true. You can't stop someone from watching a cricket match because he did not pay his loans.

Sahara were out of cricket by 2013, so again nothing for bcci to do.

Anyway we are diverging from the point, Pandya is an indian cricketer who represents the indian team, he should be behaving in accordance to standards expected of someone who is representing his country and while he may have just signed up to play cricket but if he can't be a decent human being he should stick to playing for his gully and not represent the nation. His comments were sexist and misogynist, and has been rightly punished for the same, why do you think if he was so right in his behavior did he apologize so quickly, this isn't the 1950's, such nonsense isn't tolerated anymore.

And the case is pending, he got a anticipatory bail not an acquittal.

Damn, I wanted to actually watch the show this evening but HotStar have pulled it down.

And unless I read otherwise, I have to say that Rahul has been unfairly punished here. Suspended just for being there while Pandya and Clown-in-chief Karan Johar did their thing.

Yes, there is freedom of speech, that's the reason why he is not arrested or any charges brought against him. But Freedom of speech does not grantee freedom from consequence.

Says a lot about the current times when such immorality and shamelessness is being supported as freedom of speech. What great upbringing these people must have had.

Guys - any tweets you post make sure that account is a decent and verified one - dont just post because its verified

Mallya was running RCB till 2016. Only in 2016 did he step down from RCB and United Spirits board. If i am not wrong he along with SRK and others was playing in a owners match of IPL in 2015.

Sahara didnot exit they lost the bid to STAR. So bcci did nothing.

Pandya didnot sign up to be tested by feminists. He didnot break any laws. If feminists dont like it, its their problem. Anyone is free to do anything as per the law of the land. Bcci isnt above that. He apologised under duress.

Has KJo apologised? No. Why? Because no one can make him do it.

If this was not Pandya snd someone like Rohit or Virat, nothing would happen. Neither would this happen if bcci was run by proper people and not two nincompoops.

So anyone who dislikes such conducts is given a label by you guys - "feminists". Every single mature adult has agreed what they did was wrong, including BCCI, COA and Kohli.

So now woman hating incels should decide how normal people should behave?

This is not a legal court where you are taking about breaking laws. Go to your office and say such things? Or if a top management from any company goes and says such things. they will be fired in a day. BCCI is a private firm. Players are role models. they attract sponsorship. Does the law of the firm apply in your private company in which you work?

Anyday a pesudeo liberal is a million times better than incels, alt righters

Misogynistic and Sexist?

Can someone tell me what is so bad that Pandya said? Watching women dance at club with a drink in hand is sexist? Saying he had multiple partners is sexist? Saying that he discusses his sex life with his parents is sexist?

Oh boy!!! Is this seriously 2019?

BCCI has no authority over what a player does in his private life. If any brand does not want to be associated with Pandya, its their decision. But suspending a player for what he does at a night club is nuts.

Did any woman ever come out and complain that Pandya molested or raped her? Everything is mutual agreement within the law.

For Spaghetti Monsters sake, he is a grown man. Not a child to be disciplined like this.

Sahara's bid was considered ineligible, so bcci did do something.

Pandya did signup for representing the country and that means you do not make sexist and misogynist comments unless you think sexist and misogynist is what an indians are and that is what cricketers are representing.

KJO is a ***** but he did not make those comments, which is why even Rahul isn't apologising for anything given he did nothing wrong. Also hotstar removed that episode from viewing so clearly people can make others do things.

If this were rohit or virat they won't have made those statements to begin with, you are generally a good poster but boy do you have your blinkers on when it comes to the CoA, Ratnakar shetty isn't the CoA and yet he did criticize pandya and it isn't feminist or rather any other label to be respectful of women it's called being a decent human being.

I am sorry both have been ridiculousy suspended over a nothing issue. He's a young bloke, flashy and mouthy like any young person. Complete joke how this entire issue has blown up.

It's the 2010s social media mob mentality that got Smith and Warner banned for a year, lose IPL contracts overnight, etc. etc.

People these days love seeing other people lose their jobs, get rapped on the knuckles, and generally in some form of trouble.

Equally, Hardik Pandya is a bit of weirdo and had this coming.

This is quite surprising.

Celebs like ric flair, simon cowell and others have openly admitted about bedding hundreds of women, but no action was taken against them.

Unless he has done something worse to those women, then these comments shouldn't be a problem.

There are too many self styled cultural and moral police in India it looks like. Everyone has to follow the set morals of those police to be branded a good individual.

Bollywood actors date and have flings with hundreds of women. Breaking up for them after a short fling is nothing. Even TV actors do that. They still get to act and get endorsements. Nobody bats an eyelid because they do not admit on a TV program.

Pandya never said that woman are there to be enjoyed or he treats woman like slaves or he has no respect for them. But the moral police are not happy so he deserves to be treated like a criminal.

They will hopefully learn from their mistakes though it is going to be one huge mistake . Cricketers play around , at least the bachelors do but you do not TALK & BEHAVE cheap & that is expected from hugely popular figures which our cricketers are .
Pandya does come across as a sleaze bag but Rahul may have surprised few but not me . A friend of mine who is playing IPL since 5-6 years & getting paid in 8 figures in rupees had told me in 2017 that this guy is a major player , he told me a few details too which cannot not be revealed on a forum .

Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt don't work for BCCI. Sidhu got away in old times, it wouldn't have been possible at this day and age. and whats up with bringing 20 yr old situation and applying to current issue? n whats up with Azahar's marriage ( not extra marital affair) to Sangeeta Bijlani has to do with this? Are we really gonna come up with anything to defend this joker?

I see , if they are being sent home then this does have long term recuperation's .

Karan Johar has many good things about him but lets be honest here, he is the pioneer of attempting to normalise the taboo topic of sex/fornication/adultry and homosexuality in Indian Cinema. Kabhi Alvida na Kehna is a prime example of this.

I think Feminists need to target him as well if they are targeting Pandya. Its like the guy knew that this was his big break into bollywood (a career after or during cricket) and he must fit in by saying stuff like this on a show that welcomes it

Pandya is 2nd best all rounder in the world and a key player for our world cup chances. Shame on COA for banning a player of such calibre just bcoz few feminists/wrist slitters found it offensive.

Really? He's a bits-and-pieces hack who will not make a top-100 batsmen or bowlers list in the history of cricket. So many have come before him - from Robin Singh to Yousuf Pathan, to Ravi Bopara and the Silva of the day in other countries.

We should only play him the day we feel sorry for Australia having to continually select Mitch Marsh. It'll then be a fair 10 v 10 game.

I wonder how Ranveer Singh gets to meet PM Modi and gets to take pictures with him after that AIB show he did with Arjun Kapoor and Karan Johar. Nobody shunned them or treated them like pariahs for that.

Where were all these internet moral brigade when that was made? It is still available in Youtube. Anyone who has not seen it are welcome to watch that.

Lol so they have banned them for something that is not related to cricket? As I said, KL Rahul deserves to be dropped based on his performance alone. Not sure what statement he gave to receive punishment? This incident has also exposed some narrow minded wannabe westerners and proved that they will always remain pendu. :inti

Ridiculous decision. Grown men cannot do things that law allows.

Is trying to be a Westerner bad?

Do you wear jeans and Pants and T-Shirts? Or just a Dhoti and Kurta to be as much Indian as you can?

As if destroying bollywood by promoting talentless 'star' kids was not enough, this karan johar is now poking his nose in Indian cricket too.

Even though I don't like Hardik Pandya the cricketer, I would still support him in this case because he has apologised. He is not a serial offender and didn't say those things on a cricket field. BCCI is just acting like Cricket Australia now and coming under the pressure of internet trolls. Performances in the bed shouldn't be taken into consideration.

There is nothing wrong with what they said, had it been privately as we all say like that. But as celebs, and leading figures in India, they ought to know some diplomacy and stop putting their lives into the public domain.

His comments were misogynistic, there wasn't 2 adults having sex but 1 school dropout not knowing how to behave and basically bragging about his conquests.

If pandya were a westerner he would be criticized for those comments by white people too especially given the current attitude towards misogyny.

WHAT?????????????????????

All rappers brag about it publicly in their lyrics! Go to a rap concert and see how the front rows and maybe the vast majority of the people attending the concert are young women! If Drake or Lil Pump wanna rhyme beats about it its all good and people will download their tracks on Itunes, if an Indian man wants to show off about his conquests its simply disrespectful and mysognystic??

What Pandya did is not excusable but do not say that the attitude towards this consistent throughout the world!

I wonder if you would say that same thing if Pandya talked about a female relative of yours in the same way. That wannabe Gayle deserves to be banned.

You didn't get it. I am talking about those who show off, put on a fake accent and try to act open minded but show their true colors when incidents like these happen. Got it now?

In case you didn't know, FIRs were issued against them.

It's actually their own faults. Would they have said such things 5 years ago? NO. But now with fame and money, they have arrogance, and the invincibility aura. They betrayed themselves and obviously, should pay for it.

Here is a small question for those who are supporting these bans. If Kohli was also part of that show in place of KL Rahul, would you still have supported BCCI in suspending him just like they have suspended KL Rahul? :inti

I support banning pandya, banning rahul is pure rubbish, that guy's only fault was he was in the same room.

What about Saurav Ganguly and Nagma? :inti

Here are the new categories of players stats as far as BCCI is concerned.

Domestic Cricket Stats
IPL Stats
T20I Stats
ODI Stats
Test Cricket Stats
Bed Stats : The more you score there the better the chances of you getting dropped from the team.

He did not sexually assault anyone. Everything is consensual.

2 Grownups who want to have sex is frowned upon by the society and he needs to apologize

Civilised people do not appear on national tv and boast about getting with multiple girls, not knowing their names, laughing about it. lol. It's cringe, childish and sexist.

India is seen as having a sexual assualt problem in the west. Now the BCCI have suspended them, the commentators will have to point out they are not playing and people will see even the cricketers have the same problem as much as society. Not good PR for India either way.

Zayda baat ka batangar bunadiya hai... a simple slap on the wrists should have been enough. A scolding or nominal fine. Recalling them from tour is just

His fling with Nagma was all over News Papers. Saurav already married by then. Nobody said anything.

At least Pandya is a bachelor.

Azharuddin was having extra marital affair with Sangeeta Bijlani when he was already married.

Ravi Shastri was a well known playboy in 80's and his flings with Bollywood actresses is well known.

Acchhaa!! Who are you to decide who is civilized?

India may have sexual assault issues. But Pandya did not assault anyone. Know the difference.

This is like saying you cannot buy expensive cars in India when India has major poverty issue.

Agree all these rappers and other musicians glorify the pump and dump culture and brag about it and here you have Indians bashing one of their Cricketers over it.

Selective outrage.

Listen to the women in your country, thousands march in protest reguarly wanting any end to treating women as second class citizens.

Do you not understand how going on national t.v and saying such things is offensive to women? Kohli does or is he wrong too?

Hacks dont defend 2 runs in 3 balls in WC stage, neither play that epic innings in SA in a green mamba or pick 5 wickets in Eng.

2nd best all rounder after Stokes in all formats combined....Pandya that is. Top player.

Situation has gotten out of hand.

What a person does in his personal life should not translate into punishments into his work life.

Of course there are unusual circumstances than can involve endangering another individual or criminal activity, but this is below that measure.

Once again, the issue the BCCI has made is the manner in which Pandya flamboyantly announced his promiscuity on national television.

India still has taboos about openly discussing sex in public therefore it is understandable.

They are setting a precedent for further young players as to not bring any unwanted attention.

The audacity of the outraged to express their dissent has never been so fine.

What has this got to do with treating women as second class citizens?

Women want liberation and want to be treated equal to men. Nothing to do with Pandya said.

If Pandya said that woman should stay in kitchen and fully cover themselves and cannot go out in Public, that is considered misogynistic, male chauvinistic and sexist comments. All Pandya said is he has been with multiple women. Very different.

We hate to talk about sex openly.

Yet we have 1.35 billion people with almost a baby born every second. Our people do it like crazy, but do not want to talk about it. So typical of us.

They don't. They bowl pies against bigger Bangladeshi hacks and luck out.

He bragged about women, not knowing their names but having fun with them. He put them down to simply objects of desire. This is similar thinking to those who abuse women. Even in a society where women have the most rights and suffer the least abuse, such comments wouldn't have gone down well but in India where headlines such as 'every 20 min there's a rape in Delhi' it becomes many times worse.

You might think it's fine to talk of women in such regard but it's nice to see the BCCI and Virat Kohli dont.
