Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul suspensions 'lifted with immediate [Post #441]

Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul both suspended with immediate effect

Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have both been suspended following comments made by the pair on the Indian talkshow 'Koffee with Karan'.

The pair will fly back to Indian and will be suspended until an inquiry into their behaviour takes place.

In a statement, the BCCI said: "The players are hereby suspended with immediate effect from participating in any manner whatsoever in any match or function or event or activity that is authorized, organized, sanctioned, recognized or supported in any way by the BCCI, the ICC or any State Association, until final adjudication of the matter."

Both players have apologised for their actions.

India's ODI series against Australia begins on January 12th before they go onto play five ODIs and three T20Is in New Zealand. Replacements for the duo will be announced in due course by the selection committee.

Hacks dont defend 2 runs in 3 balls in WC stage, neither play that epic innings in SA in a green mamba or pick 5 wickets in Eng.

2nd best all rounder after Stokes in all formats combined....Pandya that is. Top player.

Can you please share the link of that rankings page where Stokes is at 1 and Pandya is at 2? Thanks in advance.

He bragged about women, not knowing their names but having fun with them. He put them down to simply objects of desire. This is similar thinking to those who abuse women. Even in a society where women have the most rights and suffer the least abuse, such comments wouldn't have gone down well but in India where headlines such as 'every 20 min there's a rape in Delhi' it becomes many times worse.

You might think it's fine to talk of women in such regard but it's nice to see the BCCI and Virat Kohli dont.

What's your problem if a Man just wants to have physical relations without any baggage as long as both parties are in consent? The women were fine with sleeping with Pandya even though he didn't ask for their names, if those woman are fine with it. What problem do you see?

He didn't force anyone. Maybe he told the women in advance that all he wants is some casual fun and they agreed. So?

Because he makes women as a sex object.

It's India problem not mine. Try looking into the epidemic of womens abuse in the nation and the comments of Kohli and the BCCI. What is their problem in your view?

So anyone who dislikes such conducts is given a label by you guys - "feminists". Every single mature adult has agreed what they did was wrong, including BCCI, COA and Kohli.

So now woman hating incels should decide how normal people should behave?

This is not a legal court where you are taking about breaking laws. Go to your office and say such things? Or if a top management from any company goes and says such things. they will be fired in a day. BCCI is a private firm. Players are role models. they attract sponsorship. Does the law of the firm apply in your private company in which you work?

Bcci is not a private firm. The supreme court settled that issue in its 2016 judgement.

So i will be fired for discussing my sex life with my colleagues? Really?

You are hell bent on making them role models. Its their wish if they want to be role models or have a bling lifestyle.

My company cant fire me if i sleep with X number of women and tell my colleagues about it. Its not illegal.

What sex object? Why are women sleeping with him then?

So what if you want to be with a woman only for sex? Is relationship and marriage compulsory?

Obviously, you dont know how a society works. If one looks at women as sex object, he have to expect a reaction. Its not just Hardik, I would also lose many respect if I say similar things at workplace.

It's India problem not mine. Try looking into the epidemic of womens abuse in the nation and the comments of Kohli and the BCCI. What is their problem in your view?

Epidemic? Can you tell me what is the per capita number of cases of gender crimes in India compared to others?

Pandya did nothing wrong. He burned the egos of a few feminists and activists.

Exclusive: India most dangerous country for women with sexual violence rife - global poll

Kohli and BCCI think differently, have a word to find out why and let us know.

Well the viewers probably felt a type of culture shock, if I can call it that. Many people know how things are with some of these cricketers. The things that happen during the IPL and other partying occasions etc But talking about it in public is a totally different thing and I would say the right decision has been taken because otherwise it would set a bad precedence. We don’t want a young generation of cricketers aspiring to sleep with women they don’t know names of. These are people with serious fan base and that TV show is very popular.

I’m sure if you ask Pandya’s parents, they’d say he deserves this punishment. His statements have shown them in a bad light as well. I’m a very ‘liberal’ guy but according to some Indians, being liberal is about smoking weed and protesting against our culture and leading reckless lives. They think the whole world is like JNU.

Massive stereotyping there. I know loads of folks from JNU who don't even drink or some and love their "culture". Would you like if I call all Indians extremists on the basis of a few orange heads lynching an innocent?

Which woman who slept with him complained?

Its not a rape allegation so complaints are irrelevant. He boastfully and publicily talked about sex with women. So obviously, he should expect a reaction from others.

You dont talk about such stuffs at your workplace. If you are a celeb, then every interview, media is your work environment.

Can you please share the link of that rankings page where Stokes is at 1 and Pandya is at 2? Thanks in advance.

Rankings also says Ravi Jadeja is the 2nd best all rounder and Stoksey is 5th. Only a fool would go blindly with these rankings. Impact matters for all rounders and Stokes & Hardik along with Pat Cummings (potentially) are the only big impact all rounders. Anyway topic is not cricket, so lets stick on the issue.

A simple verbal warning was enough....this ban is over exxegeration. Also, what wrong did Rahul do? How is he responsible for anything wrong Pandya said? Maybe bcoz both choose Shakshi over Anushka on the show has made Kohli angry :))

If any action was needed, it should have been against Karan Johar and his bakwaas show which spreads vulgarity.

To think of it, a lot of Indian folks could also be jealous of Pandya's lifestyle. Especially some guys who would trade an arm for getting hooked up with the opposite sex. By being vocal about his lifestyle Pandya could have made a few enemies.

Just visit the JNU campus and you’ll know :). Pretty much every other guy you meet would be a pseudo left liberal. It’s their fort bro.

All said and done, he has a bowling average of 41 (78 in England) and batting average of 29. This could be a blessing in disguise for his team.

Lol, so all those women making a issue of this are jealous of Pandya?

I was talking men. And "all"? I specified "some".

Regarding women - IMO some of them are going through a very delicate period trying to understand what they feel is morally right/wrong. Had a female cricketer said that she counts the number of guys she sleeps with or talked about her promiscuous lifestyle in general, she could very well have been applauded by some for embracing her sexuality and being herself.

That report has been discussed on PP. Its based on some NGO and its experts. Quotes some random govt officials.

Again Kohli and Bcci fell in the trap of the feminists.

A US supreme court judge was similarly accused and his nomination was almost scuttled. Later on nothing was found.

X had sex with Y. Told about it to Z. P over hears it and is in rage that Y is being insulted when Y has no.issues actually.

Don't act like an idiot joshila bhai, I like your josh when it comes to defending India but you are overdoing it, punishing pandya isn't an violation of freedom of speech, neither is it wrong to teach that punk a lesson in professionalism, no one is putting pandya in jail for those crass comments, but bcci is a corporate organisation, they have to maintain a certain level of sanctity to maintain their brand, if lucchas like pandya keep spreading filth on television then it will definitely bring down the brand value of bcci and cricket overall, no one likes a foul mouth cretin that pandya is, I appreciate bcci taking action against pandya, but I also feel bad for kl rahul for getting caught in this mess

There are plenty of other reports which show much worry. This quotes government figures.

No point denying there is a huge problem.

Kohli was a big supporter of Pandya, he isn't stupid and knows this lowers the image of the Indian team which was on a high after it's first win in Aus.

India is not the US.

Bcci is not a moral police. Legally they cant do anything thats what their legal team told them. So they have done this suspension till inquiry drama.

Pandya can be foul mouth, its his personal life. Shami is a womaniser. Azhar had extra maritial affair. Sidhu killed someone. But none of this had anything to do with cricket. Why single out Pandya?

Moral policing has no place in this world.

BCCI is not moral policing, bcci is reacting to public reaction, pandya acted like an idiot, there are no two ways about it, bcci is not moral policing pandya, they are protecting their brand, if people had raised a hue and cry about azhar and sidhu then bcci would have taken action against them too, bcci is simply protecting its brand, which is the right thing to do, pandya is a bloody idiot to make those comments on live television.

Lol. About there is a huge problem. The absolute per capita numbers for 1.3bn population is very small.

Lowers the image of Indian team? What has he exactly done? Which law has been broken?

BCCI or any other successful corporation will base their actions keeping in mind the public opinion, otherwise the brand will die, do you really think corporations are some kind of moral force in our society? Facebook or youtube won't care about immoral content on their websites as long as it earns them money, but since immoral content brings a lot of negative feedback and it is bad for their business so they have to censor it. It is all about business, pandya deserves to be punished for being unprofessional

Silly, Pandya hasnt done anything illegal. So laws are irrelevant.

Its about how a society works, and if you come across making women a sex object, there will be a negative reaction. And obviously, such backlash happens to a comman man as well not just a celeb. With a comman man, we just dont get to know about it.

The vast majority of assualts/rapes are not reported. The Dehli bus incident was reported as main headlines around the world. There is a huge problem otherwise why are those women protesting all the time?

You can't blindly defend everything related to Indian cricket or the BJP. You should be happy Kohli and the BCCI have taken strong action here, they respesent the minds of Indians and not Pandya.

Oh lookie here we have yesterday's problem child Harbhajan chiming in:

Won't travel in same bus as Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul: Harbhajan Singh

"Look, the punishment could be a two-match or three-match ban. That will not change anything. Their reputation was at stake, they have lost the trust of their teammates. If he comes and stands next to you at a party, would you like to stand next to him? I will not travel with these two guys in the same bus because if my daughter, if my wife is travelling in the team bus.. how would they feel? You are looking at women in only one angle? That's not right," Harbhajan told India Today.

"It's actually hurting us. He is bringing everyone's reputation on the stake, including Sachin Tendulkar's and all that of these great players who have played for the country for more than 20 years.

"He's talking about using other teammates' room. 'C'mon man what are you talking about? You have been in the team for only one year. What do you know about the team?'

"We never created this kind of culture...party till 5 and come to play the next day. 'You're here to play cricket not to do this kind of stuff. When you have free time, you can enjoy, do what you want to do.'

"Obviously, the ACU needs to see, which player is going where. The ACU should report to the BCCI. Where was the ACU when KL [Rahul] was out till 5 in the morning," Harbhajan added.

"The rules now are so strict. No one can come to your rooms without prior permission? Where was the ACU?"

"The Indian team has a reputation.. they go out there to play for India. You are bringing bad name to cricket and all the seniors who have played the game. Virat Kohli made it very clear the team does not want these two players to stay with the team... Whether they stay in Australia or not, is a different matter," he said.

"Well, I don't know. What do you mean by suspension? If they are still part of the team... Suspension means you won't be able to take part in anything. Then why be there in Australia?," Harbhajan told India Today.

"They should rather be sent back home. Standards need to be set and this is something which was unacceptable. They have said a lot of things that have not been up to the mark. It didn't go well with me and with a lot of other cricketers.

"I was speaking to a couple of my seniors about the same thing. There wasn't any need to say things like that.

"Hardik has only played for a year or so. In my view he has no right to talk about any other player [when asked about what he felt when they revealed dressing room secrets]. I have been part of the team for many years.

"For 25 odd years, I have been playing. We make sure that whatever we do stays in the dressing room. You shouldn't be talking ill about other teammates. What's the guarantee that others are doing it if you're doing it," Harabhajan said.

To be fair, the ACU thing is a good point.

Thats rubbish. BCCI has to take steps because of the general public backlash. They have to react according to the public. So tomorrow, if public wants player X out, he will be gone. Thats the reality.

For Hardik, the lesson should be “ what happens in vegas stay in vegas “. He brought it open, and thus the public backlash. His own fault really.

Even in Bollywood you have the trend of women parading in bikinis to draw more eyeballs and using their body to woo attention? How is that not objectification of women and no protests against it?

I think the suspension for Rahul was a bit OTT, but there should have been an immediate ban on their endorsement contracts and the brands themselves should have dropped them. They live this lifestyle due to the income generated from this- hit them where it hurts to set a precedent that this kind of behaviour best remains private or better just focus more on cricket than pretending to be black.

If the BCCI wants to hit them where it hurts, they'll ban them all the way until this year's IPL. Pandya probably won't make the World Cup either.

Let's see what happens.

Feel bad for KL. He needs to consult some swami ji asap and perform a 'hawan' 📿. His current phase is nothing worse than a nightmare.
On the other hand, a short ban can be a blessing in disguise for Pandu ji. It would be a rude awakening, but will surely work on getting his focus back to Cricket.
The team will not miss either of them atm though.

Excellent point. Guess hypocrisy is everywhere.

The reaction by BCCI has been stupid to say the least..should had let market and advertisers decide..

They have made the correct move.

If that goofball Pandya had turned up to play the 1st ODI a few short hours from now, mouth all over would foam.

8 ODIs and 2 T20 suspension. Lol.

Did they suspend MeToo accused Rahul Johri? No.

This is what happens when you have a nobody woman cricketer and a retired senile bureaucrat hoisted over an organisation and on top of that they have no accountability.

At 0:42-:45 seconds even KL Rahul looks shocked by what Pandya is saying. :kohli

1 word: Paindu.

It's clear that the guy has been catapulted to this lifestyle and is feeling like a fish out of water. In order to look at ease in this new lifestyle, he's overcompensating.

On a lighter note:

"I'm a little from the black side" :))) What the hell does that even mean??

Watching the full interview this clown Pandya even claims to have asked his parents if he was really their legit son since he associates with being "black and cool" and how he is from the black side.

Feel terrible for his parents, I guess it could be due to his upbringing or lack thereof.

What a shameless individual, deserves a ban for being a tool but why did Rahul get banned, he didn't say jack..

Funnily, among people I know (Indians and Pakistanis both) most men supporting Pandya are those who keep their sisters and wives virtually locked up and will probably kill their daughters if they ever go out at night with a guy before marriage, while those opposing him are exactly the reverse.

They both deserve the punishment. Karan Johar is honestly such a clown though. Represents everything wrong with Bollywood. No wonder he’s glorified there

Why does rahul deserve punishment what was he supposed to do there? Pandya is your typical Nouveau riche with school dropout features as an additional bonus.

A small issue blown out of proportion.BCCI behaving like old stuck up traditionalists. A slap on the wrist and a warning would have been just fine.

He was supposed to be the next Kapil Dev but this Kontroversy with Karan episode has made him the next Shakti Kapoor. Aaaaau :inti

Maybe in rural areas, where you probably stay. Come to metro cities and there is a different world.

Replacements for the duo will be announced in due course by the selection committee.

https://www.icc-cricket.com/news/971582

Cricketers Hardik Pandya and K L Rahul will be sent back to India immediately to face a committee set up to probe their “inappropriate” comments on women on a television chat show. The quantum of punishment they will face, after being suspended for their remarks on the show Koffee with Karan, will be decided after they present their case to the panel.

Earlier, Captain Virat Kohli said the Indian team does not stand by Pandya and Rahul for making “inappropriate” comments on women but insisted that the controversy won’t affect the dressing room morale. “From the Indian cricket team point of view, any inappropriate comments that are made in that scenario are something that we definitely don’t support…and that has been communicated (to the two players),” he said at the pre-match press conference before the ODI series opener against Australia.

Diana Edulji, a member of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), told The Indian Express: “How can you expect them to be with the Indian team now? They will fly back home.” No time frame has been set yet to deliver a verdict against the two but the probe committee will first watch the complete episode and speak to the players before deciding whether to hand out the same punishment to both or treat them differently.

Though CoA chief Vinod Rai had earlier suggested a two-match ban, Edulji had stressed on following due procedure by first suspending the players before forming an inquiry committee. The Indian cricket board’s old Constitution had a disciplinary committee but its new Constitution does not. The BCCI doesn’t even have an ombudsman either.

Sources said that the board is contemplating the idea of involving the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), but it is unclear whether the CAC has any legal standing to deal with the issue.

“We have followed all procedure before suspending them. An email has been sent to players. We don’t know how much time it will take for the probe to get over, we don’t know what the quantum of punishment will be. We will be meeting soon to decide who will be part of the probe panel or the committee to look into this suspension. These players will have to be present whenever the probe committee calls them,” said Edulji.

Pandya and Rahul’s remarks sparked outrage after they made a slew of remarks on women on Koffee with Karan, some of which hinted at the team culture. Asked which of the two had “done it” in a teammate’s room in the show’s rapid-fire segment, both Pandya and Rahul pointed to themselves. Johar quipped “who is this team-mate who’s being so accommodating?” to which Rahul replied: “There are many. Acche log hain, that’s the best thing about being in a team sport.”

Johar then asked who had “gone above and beyond to ‘connect’ with a fan after the match?” Rahul explained how he meets fans after matches, takes them out for coffee, prompting Johar to clarify, “not that way “connect”. And Rahul’s reply: “Oh that way? Yeah, I have”.

Earlier on the show, Johar asked Rahul to recount the “very sweet” story of how he partied until 5 am and smashed a century in a T20 against West Indies at Fort Lauderdale. “We were playing in Miami,” said Rahul. “I didn’t think I would be playing the next day, they hadn’t informed me. So I thought, hell I am in Miami. What am I gonna do? I don’t have to be fresh. We were just gonna go for dinner and the place turned into a party place after 12 and then I didn’t feel like going back and came back at 5. Next day, 9 o’clock they told me you’re playing. I am not proud of that, I’m proud of the hundred.”

The Koffee with Karan controversy has made a big impact on Hardik Pandya’s image and career. After a suspension by the BCCI, Pandya has now started losing his sponsors because of his comments on the show. One of Hardik’s biggest sponsors, shaving blade brand Gillette has now suspended its association with the Indian all-rounder. Hardik’s comments on the show have been labelled as “sexist, racist and misogynist” by many fans and media outlets.

“Hardik Pandya’s recent comments do not reflect the values of Gillette. We have suspended our association with Hardik until we decide on further course of action,” Times of India quoted a Gillette India spokesperson as saying.

Gillette had announced Hardik as its brand ambassador for their new product MACH 3 Start last year. But after the controversy, the multinational personal care brand decided to cut off his ties with him.

Pandya and KL Rahul have been sent back home from the Australian limited-overs series due to disciplinary reasons. The Committee of Administrators (CoA) sent fresh show-cause notices (separately) to the players and informed them about their suspension while banning them from participating in any BCCI, ICC and/or state association tournament/event until the final adjudication of the matter. They are likely to miss out on the New Zealand tour as well while their participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is also in doubt.

KL Rahul and specially Pandya, have been facing a lot of backlash after making some controversial comments on the talk show. Pandya’s remarks about women on the show have been labelled as sexist and misogynist on the show.

Pandya could potentially lose out on more brands as seen in the past. Aamir Khan and Tiger Woods lost out on a lot of brands in the past after some controversy. Pandya currently endorses brands like Gulf Oil, D:FY, Star India, and Sin Denim while Rahul has partnerships with Curefit, Royal Stag and Puma.

The BCCI has taken a hard stance and set a strong precedent with these sanctions. Good for them.

I suspect the Ambanis (Mumbai Indians owners) might also not want to associate themselves with Pandya. (Harbhajan's opinion) Their family has an image to maintain. Will they suspend Pandya? :irfan

What a distasteful interview brimming with offensive comments. But that's not even the worst part.It is the amount of deplorable comments on this thread refusing to accept there is any misogyny in these comments. If there was one or two people they could be singled out but there are so many whining about 'How is it misogynistic?what is so sexist?the women agreed. It was consensual...'blah blah blah.

For God's sake get a life.In this 21st century when you can not give the other gender the respect they deserve and do not understand the concept of sexism, being adults with all the exposure in the world, there is really no hope in the world.

This interview was boorish, misogynistic and even racist.

For all the people harping on an on about consent, that is all fine and dandy nobody is accusing him of rape or harrasment. It is his deep rooted sexism which is under scrutiny. His comments clearly show that he is one of those people who think that viewing women as NOTHING but objects of desire makes you come accross as a cool stud.
He has multiple sexual conquests which he brags about in front of his family.'Yay wali meri hai,yay b meri hai,yay b meri hai etc' and the family proceeds on to say 'wah beta we are so proud of you' :facepalm
and people here be like 'so?its consent.'
To bhai nobody said he harrased or raped women, the women consented to be involved with him BUT what they did not consent to i am sure is him viewing them as merely someone to fulfill your sexual needs with and giving them no respect whatsoever as human beings and bragging about how he got laid(with them) on national television.Heck,he doesnt even believe in knowing the name of the woman he is interested in.They are not even that important because in his words its not important to him what their names are but what is more important is that how they move because that is what holds his interest only.
And educated adults on this forum have the audacity to say that there is nothing sexist about his interview.:14:

And oh btw his comment that I am on the black side so i need to know how they move :14
wah bhai that is what you think the blacks do.They have no sincere interest in the women around them but are party animals who view woman as only fit enough to shake her assets for the pleasure of men and that is what make her desirable.NOTHING ELSE.
No Pandya that's not the blacks, its just you.

The guy has no respect for women, views them as mere objects of sexual desire, has no interest in their personal self and what they are as a person but only considers their figure and the movement of their body parts as the only significant object to be noticed but OH NO how is he sexist just because he doesnt fit in the criteria of feminists.Seriously???

When Karan asked him what happens when more than one team mate hits on one girl and Rahul said it depends on the girl then whoever she chooses but Pandya had the nerve to say 'Nai aisa waisa kuch nai hota bhai hamary talent par hota hai jo lay gya uski'
Now if you are still defending this guy from not being sexist SHAME ON YOU.He does not think the woman has any say in the matter of who she wants to be with.No bhai jis nai zyada achi patai wo ghar lai jaiga.Wah bhai wah.

And this interview was crass and classless and clearly reflected his lack of education but i think we can all agree on that.A nation who invests their time and money and life on the cricket and worships these cricketers is learning this rubbish from them.

I am so happy the BCCI has suspended them.I dont think it will change their mentality one bit, they will just hide it better. But atleast it will teach the youngsters who hold their words as close as holy verses that this absolutely unacceptable and not how you behave, especially in public. It will teach the young men viewing that it is not mere entertainment to disrespect women and your coolness is most definitely not directly proportional to the number of sexual conquests under your belt.

Disgraceful, both Pandya's comments and those on this forum defending them.

Salman Khan is facing court cases ranging from animal killing to Culpable homicide, sponsors havent dropped him.

Sanjay Dutt went to jail for keeping illegal fire arms.

Aamir Khan had an affair with Kiran Rao when he was married.

Srinivasan's Son in law was involved in betting and bcci didnt do much till the court ordered punishment.

I can go on and on about people who have done much worse and havent been punished. Here social media feminist warriors are blowing a issue out of proportion and a very pliable CoA thinks its better to take action. The other member of the CoA though thinks legally Bcci cant take any action as this is beyond scope of action.

Told you. Gillette just removed Pandya.

Looks like the others are also thinking about dropping him too.

This was always on the cards and BCCI is way ahead of the game when it comes to its business. With the Pepsi troubles (IPL fixing) they were never going to take a chance. Pandya is nothing in comparison to those multi-million dollar deals.

stupid stuff from BCCI.

they are not the moral police

Had Pandya made these comments in 2010, nothing of sort would had happened.

BCCI isn't truly at fault nor do I think it's a case of moral policing.

Pandya sparked a complete PR disaster (right in the middle of a tour!) which gained significant traction on social media/news outlets. Any organization would have responded in a similar manner. if they ignored it or tried sweeping things under the rug, the problem would have worsened especially now with Gilette coming out and dropping Pandya's sponsorship contract.

They have to protect their brand as a business.

So this indefinite suspension is Eduljee's idea. So they will already miss 8 ODIs and 2 T20Is for appearing on a show.

Vinod Rai just wanted a 2 ODI ban.

What should be Eduljee's punishment for leaking BCCI mails? This lady is a hypocrite. The biggest curse on Bcci.

Any idea when we can get rid of the CoA?

Without CoA, I think the stance wouldn't have changed. No corporate sector wants to turnish its image by associating with employees who has developed bad reputation.

A simple example, Cheating isn't legally wrong. What pandya does, isn't illegal and he has every right. But when it becomes public in a negative way and the sector comes in to the picture, there has to be some damage repair in order to avoid collateral damage.

People lose their jobs over one tweet. Pandya should consider himself lucky.

He didn’t nothing wrong. Nothing. Zilch.

We live in a fruitcake society where we are so advanced we are looking to go backwards. Looking to be offended. Literally. Feminism is a cancer and just female supremacy. Their views and ideologies are flawed and illogical and worst of all, hypocritical.
