Haris Sohail vs Babar Azam - who would you pick?

These two are arguably the best batsman to have ever come out of Pakistan post 2010.

Babar has tons of potential and age is on his side, while Harris is a proven performer (2015 World Cup) and is the only batsman in the side who can play swing while maintaining a good strike rate.

Can these two go neck in neck in the future?

Would be interesting to see competition between two batsman from the same team for once in Pakistan. Similar to the Wasim Waqar rivalry.

Sample size was good enough. I think we've seen their techniques so far and they both looked superb. Very excited to be honest. Will finally see 2 technically composed batsman after horrid players like Awaiz, Shehzad, etc debut.
 
Babar. He is the next big thing.

Haris is also special but his fitness seems to let him down and unfortunately I believe it will continue to do so.

Let's just say Haris is a 5k runs batsman while Babar seems to be 8k material, iA.
 
Haris has been out of the team for ages and looks like he's not coming back any time soon. He might not even be the same after injury.

Babar hopefully will be back, I don't want to see him go down the same route as Haris. But feel we should stop going on about Haris, including him in our teams until he's actually coming back into the team/squad and recovered from injury. Doesn't matter how good Haris is if he's injured and can't play.
 
I rate both of them highly, but at the moment, with respect to Haris, I'm only interesting in when he returns to the team and how he performs after such a long lay-off.
 
One really has to wonder how batsman like Azam and Harris were produced in a country like Pakistan.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw them playing, who were they coached by? Are these two actually the only Pakistani players who closely watch footage of legends like Tendulkar, Vivianne Richarfs , Kholi, Ponting, Miandad? Or is it a diet?
 
Easily 2 of the best ODI bats in the country and its imperative that both bat in the top 3. I think Babar is better though

Sir I think you haven't seen Rizwans knocks vs spinners. Falls for them everytime.

He has potential too, on top of that he's the best fielder Pak has produced ever, but Azam has more potential than all of the lot.

Good work ethic and they chose the right role models.

He seems a hardworking and committed cricketer, will bounce back.

This love for Haris i dont get, his fitness is poor, and he will make 30 and get out.. Whats the use of that, players like Fawad and Babar are alot fitter, they can rotate the strike and last a long time on the crease...

Inflated by the 200, but that doesn't mean he is worthless. Miles better than others, but a league below Haris.

Harris is to weak physically. He has to build some stamina before coming back to the team. Other wise all his career he will be 30-40 run player. His cut shot is the worst among babar rizwan trio.
Harris also has to learn the accelaration bit by that i mean getting few sixes here and there in his innings.

Still, will let you enjoy. Harris is already 27, will be 28 by the time he returns with nothing much to show for it should've debuted few years earlier.

Babar has a lot of time to improve.

Pak should start debuting players earlier at the age of 20-25 instead of waiting for so long.

Look at how Bangla went with a nothing to lose strategy, filled their teams with 20 something's and are now seeing results.

Here the babas want to being an ancient artifact lIke Misbah as captain... smh while other teams are promoting young captains.
 
Pre injury Haris is better than Babar, but keep in mind both are very very good batsmen currently we have. Now i dont know how Haris will perform after his injury.

Harris and Babars amazing batsmanship has turned me into a Pakistani... Until they're dropped from squad or retire.

Haris was discovered relatively late, don't think he too cricket that seriously at first


Babar is the opposite, was identified as something special when he was 15 and has gone through all the youth systems
 
From what I've seen of them, I think Babar is better - more free-flowing and unconstrained than Haris.
 
I think Babar is better, he doesn't get bogged down after scoring 40 and he has a great temperament. Doesn't go for lazy slogs 90% of the time after getting tired.

Yes, but I remember Haris being in my FC XI back in 2009. Babar was making headlines in u15s then.

Yes, but is more likely to fail earlier in the innings.
 
Another pointless comparison. Let them at least settle in the side.
 
Should be the longterm batting options in ODI side batting 3 (sohail) and 4 (babar) respectively.
 
Both have poor fitness. And Harris is gone for the long run.

It was the ease with which he played- I hardly ever saw him play and miss- get bowled, caught behind or wrapped on the pads, whilst trying to defend the ball (except ashwin). He only got himself out once he got to 40.

For a start it all looked pretty epic- with fitness being the weak point.

Despite touring nz and Aus for the very first time too.
 
Let us all hope and pray that Harris comes back better than before.

Never seen a newbie whose game was in such good order. And I saw 95-100% of the deliveries he faced in international cricket.

That is 2/9. Do have a look at Azam's domestic innings if possible. He is vulnerable early in the innings, which worries me. That is also the reason why he hasn't been as successful in FC as List-A. He has his weakness against the moving ball. Haris has been devoid of this weakness. His vulnerability comes later in the innings when he gets tired and loses his focus.

We need both, one who can play big innings every fouth match, and one who can give you 40s every match. People tend to think that getting regular 40s is a bad thing.

Consider player A and player B. Both have scored 400 runs after 10 matches and average 40. However, player A scores exactly 40 every match, whereas, player B scores 100, 0, 0, 100, 0, 0, 100, 0, 0, 100. That is six scores of 0 and four huge innings.

For every hundred a player scores, he must fail in at least 1 inning if he is to maintain an average of 40-50. Therefore, for a perpetually inconsistent team as Pakistan, Haris carries more value than Babar.

Even Hafeez averages 35+ in the last 5 years, but if you look at his record closely, he belongs to the category of player B, and there is absolutely no guarantee that their big innings will come in important matches. However, for Haris, you can be sure that he will give you 40-50 runs every inning, and some of these may be in important matches.

Babar Azam V.S Haris Sohail: Who has more potential/is more talented? [ODIS]

Babar Azam and Haris Sohail are probably the two best bats of the country and both are technically correct (which is rare for pakistani batsmen).
Both of them have had a good start start to their ODI careers.
Haris Sohail seems a better batsmen and i think he is more talented and he can occupy the No.3 position for the long term.
IMO, i would take Haris Sohail over Babar Azam
What are your thoughts?

Good thread since these 2 are overall the best batsmen in Pakistan. I think Babar just edges Haris in terms of talent, athleticism and the fact that he is much younger. Ideally bth should bat in our top 4 in ODIs and these 2 should replace Misbah and Younis when they retire.
 
Haris 3 and Babar 4. I expect yk to be around for a while though, so Shafiq can move up to 5 with Babar at 6.

Azhar will have to open if hafeez does not work out in england.

Haris looked rock solid in his time in Australia ( WC) and if his fitness is good and he hasnt lost his abilities I would want him in the team for Aus

You are right about the athleticism part, but in terms of talent, Haris edges Babar.
 
Both are very good. Haris Sohail looked so unpakistani a batsman, his easy elegance reminded me of Saeed Anwars elegance. He edges ahead.

And dont we all love CLH batsmen more than righties ?
 
Both are guality bats and the one who will be as good as them or even better is suad shakeel. But unfortunately, we have our A team full of legends and the greatest coach to ever surface on the planet is not allowing him to play.

And that's why i dont rate Harry that much higher.

By the end of this year he will start playing cricket. So, let's see how he is going to perform but we should not expect some extraordinary things from him (now). It would be better if we wait.
 
Babar has a more well rounded game , can rotate strike effortlessly and can hit big without looking like an idiot. Haris's power game isnt as good and at times struggles to clear off side field. These two are the future.

I think Haris has a higher ceiling than Babar.
 
Babar Azam has the better all round game, he just needs to learn to curb his aggresion at times and cash in on big scores when hes well set. Haris sohail needs to recover from his injuries and just start playing cricket regularly again.

don't want anymore rivlries in Pak team, we been through alot because of this stuff
want to see them in future roles like
Sachin/Gangulay
Sachin/Dravid
Amla/Kallis
MoYo/YK
and win matches for Pak, will have them both in Team at same time
 
Babar Azam. Haris Sohail is over rated and has fitness issues in my opinion. Haris has the same issues as all our batsmen, he struggles to rotate the strike whereas Babar Azam is the only one I have seen from the new bunch of Pakistani batsman who is better at strike rotation. For now I would say I would pick Babar for ODIs, but in tests Haris because he is more solid technique.

Both however have a lot of work to do and really need improvement on many things, especially Haris.
 
why not both?

if I had to pick, Babar Azam is higher in the pecking order. People really idolize Sohail, he played a few good innings but he hasn't played Intl cricket in 15 months.. who knows what kind of batsmen he is now

Harris Sohail seems to have problem with strike rotation as well.

However, both are very good batsmen who should bat at #3 and #4 in every format.

Harris Sohail can be a better Cricket though because his bowling looks very decent.
 
Babar Azam has more potential.Haris is also an extremely good player but has fitness issues.I wish he performs well on his comeback.
 
between the two babar all the way, Haris isnt fit enough and i haven't seen anything to say he is good enough..

Babar has yet to score big - has yet to show that he is near the level of "world class" potential wise.

Haris is injury proned - yet to be given a chance in the proper format and has failed to make consistent big scores. His confidence level and rustyness will be a issue once he comes back.

Truth is we have not produced a established youngster who has reached his potential or shown it consistently since Aamer.

Asad is the only one I rate, but he is no where near world class; this series will be crucial for him.

To conclude, Haris and Babar have been overhyped way too much. A bit like with Umar Akmal back in the days, drawing comparisons with Kohli etc.
 
One of the most difficult question for me in last 5 years.
Both are my fav and best young batting talents in Pakistan in tests and odis. Hard to pick 1.

Babar is miles ahead. Haris still has a lot to prove and we all finally get to see if PP's golden boy is any good or not
