Haris Sohail's annoying habit of always getting out attempting a big shot after getting to a fifty

How many times have i seen him hole out attempting a big shot after scoring a 50? He is just not good at it. It is inexcusable that he keeps doing the same thing again and again.
 
Haris Sohail played a really good innings. Pakistani fans in general are so thankless, it's annoying how nobody says anything about Babar or Hafeez's lack of contribution in today's match, but are quick to point out Haris Sohail being "Selfish" and not being able to convert his 50's into 100's! Be thankful okayl! The guy made a 63! He was the only batsman that stood his ground and performed well, as well as Shadab. I'm glad he's back in the ODI squad, and just be patient, of course he'll improve and be a great middle order batsman. He's capable of it.

but Babar Azam doesn't? Mohammad Hafeez doesn't? Sarfraz Ahmed doesn't? Shoaib Malik doesn't? That's why those 4 were our best world class batsmen in this series right? Your right man, Haris Sohail is nothing, he made a 50 & 63 after a 2 year hiatus from ODI cricket and held the innings together when everyone was getting out. We should drop him and bring back the Legend Umar Akmal!
 
True he does have a problem.

But most of the times the situation has forced his hand. Today though I don't think it was his fault entirely, Santner beat him with the change up and everyone has found it hard to hit the spinner today(Pak innings).

I'd like more examples of how he does when the team wasn't in a total mess. He does have a 85* chasing against NZ. He needs to convert better but a better situation will help and playing as an opener will help as well I feel.

Despite the flaws he is someone to work with and one of your finest batsmen.
 
Ul Haq problem - he is carrying 20% extra body weight, hence gets tired after couple of hours of batting. Absolutely no issue with temperament and guy can bat.

You forgot Sarfraz as well. He is a nothing batsman
 
He is/will be much more consistent and reliable than babar azam who struggles against lateral movement be it spin or seam .
If he was fit enough he would have been battung at 3 by now .
 
He tends to accelerate when the team requires it. He had to unfortunately due to the run rate climbing.
 
Pure selfishness. Scoring a 50 at a SR of 70 and then getting out immediately is nothing but being selfish. Pakistan need CDG and not Pujara for ODIs.

He does carry a bit of extra weight(not as bad as Sarfraz though). His fitness was starting to pick up at one point but regressed again after the long layoff.

Fitness does hamper him but not as much as your saying. It wasn't as if he played a tired stroke
 
Can't wait for him to get dropped and Malik to come back.
 
Sohail wipes the floor with golden boy PP darling Azam.... Atleast the former shows up when the team needs him and isn't just good for soft runs
 
Hopefully once he goes to triple figures, his conversion rate will start to improve quickly. He's very much at home playing both fast and spin. Seems to have a lot of time playing every shot.
Don't think he has been selfish this series, he just needs to bring more endurance to his game. Should be batting at no 3 like in WC 15. He needs more time to get going. Reminds me a lot about Mohammad Yousaf.
Has very similar lazy elegance like him.
 
TBH Harris has shown similar traits of Shoaib Malik and Akmals. Plays selfish cricket, piles on dot balls and getting out once reaching a personal milestone. Influences badly, slows down his batting partner also Does'nt look like a team man and looks miles behind Yamin, Fahim and Nawaz in terms of contribution.

Plays though as has a lot of time like Inzamam but does'nt have the same scoring rate or the mental attitude to accelerate and push team total forward.
 
Haris is clearly our best batsman if we think about plain technique. He plays both fast and spin pretty well. People need to stop looking at his innings in a vaccum and think about the match situation. He rebuilt the innings with Shadab when we were 5 down, kept us in the game by scoring runs at a decent strike rate while not giving up his wickets, and trying to hit out when the final 15 overs arrived. He could've played at a better strike rate but the top order batsmen giving away their wickets meant we didnt have much batting after Haris and Shadab. If it werent for their partnership, we would've lost by 150 runs, not 15.
 
Calling Haris selfish? The player who consistently made 50 in two matches??!! Dont know how to please you people
 
at what rate did he score? He is turning out to be an accumulator whose only intention is to somehow survive and score a 50. No one is complaining that he is bad or doesn’t deserve to be in the team but he need to show some intent especially when the asking rate is 8 RPO.

Has only one century from 55 List A matches, quite striking in fact. Has to do a lot better in internationals, but has recently looked a class apart from most other Pakistani batsmen.

Yeah he played slow.... but it is quite dumb to blame a guy who scored 63 rather than the people who scored 12, 2, 10, 6 and 3.


I case you didn't get it, those are the scores of the other 5 top order batsmen, but sure go ahead and blame the guy who actually fought out there.
 
just need 50 for him. every player should participate that is good for team recently. more player like him we need, 6 50 mean we get 300 per calculation . that is real test of over bowling.

Then we have fans like these who are satisfied with a 50 and want nothing more no big 100's or anything.
 
Haris is better than Babar from a technical POV, but not good enough for an LOI team. All his innings' have had a pattern to them.
 
Give him a break he played well, though quite slow. Always having to rescue his team didn't help his cause. He retains all the positives he showed when he emerged few years back. What is more worrying is that all his old negatives (poor fitness, inability to accelerate, lack of big scores, etc) still persists. He has done enough to be given a long rope

Only one of Haris or Babar can play in this team. Pakistan needs to introduce stroke-players in their LOI teams. This is a harsh wake up call.
 
There will be another time when we can pick on him for the selfishness and fitness but right now there are other bigger culprits....

Also when sarfraz got out at 56-5 he should have straight away started smashing and played some rash shots??? what rubbish some people have to say. come on guys have a look at the situation. At 56-5 he and Shadab did everything right other then to got out at the wrong time.

Harsh calls need to be made. Cook and Bell weren't too bad in ODI cricket when England got knocked out of the 2015WC. They were still thrown out and an entirely new team was made keeping in mind the requirements of modern day cricket. Haris is a very good player but just not what current ODI teams require.

We need tullaybaaz in this team, since we don't have dynamic batsmen in domestic cricket. Munro is quite possibly one of the worst batsman I have seen, but when someone like him is moderately successful, you realize where modern day cricket is going.
 
Haris was always expected to be a good batsman, It would be too harsh to blame him for his strike rate in last 2 innings but extreme lack of 'finish the job' is so evident. I still remember that in his breakthrough series vs NZ in 2014 he throwed away his wicket twice after crossing the 50 mark. We were chasing a modest score after another imploded start & he became too predictable in his strokeplay that Mclenaghan got the best of him eventually.
 
yesterday was a unique situation, besides he had belted henry the previous over.
but if he wasnt a fat slob he would be more effective.
 
Top order definitely need to be blamed, I ain’t denying that. But I personally believe Haris played a bit slow which did put some pressure on tailanders.

Haha. What did I say in the match thread? He was in a no-win situation. Why blame the highest scorer in the match and who made a match out of nothing?
 
Plays too slow and finds himself needing to accelerate..That's been the case in most of his innings. I don't get why it's hard for our batsmen to play at 5 an over when the required rate is at 7. All you need is to nudge the ball around and run consistently...that will prevent from the need to find a release shot. Harris has done better than most this series but the current batting order is in no way a long-term solution.
 
He is literally the least of our worries right now...

Without haris, it would have been same result as two games ago - 70 odd and all team back in the clubhouse.
 
I think people misunderstood my point. Watch all of Harris Sohail's dismissal's in his career, the guy cannot play big shots to save his life, he has always been dismissed attempting big shots. Most batsmen after they get set 9 times out of 10 have big shots going for 4 or 6's but this guy keeps finding the fielders. He is clearly not good at it and therefore should look to play ground strokes and should be looking to bat throughout the whole innings. Leave the big hitting to more capable people.

Hard to do when our top 5 are all OUT before the 35th over and the lower order is not tested and known as a " strong tail ".

The likes of Faheem Ashraf, Aamir Yamin, Nawaz are regarded as good hitters, it should have been Shadab taking the risks while Harris should have been the guy looking to bat normally through the rest of the innings, would have been a better approach, we got very close at the end.

Nawaz played a rash shot and Ruman should have just let Yamin take full strike in the final over to score the runs.

Haris did his job. Trying to increase the RR so the lower order doesn't have to take necessary shots.
 
Needs to sort his fitness out. No other problem with his batting. He's a must in tests and ODIs.
 
He is kind of selfish batsman but most Pakistani batsmen are selfish. Only Sharjeel Khan and Fakhr Zaman are not selfish batsmen from recent memory.
 
He only have 1 hundred in List A Cricket. No surprise that he's not good at converting those fifties in ODIs.
 
I think he is a good addition to Pakistan team but he needs to keep developing his game
 
He is the best batsman in Pakistan. Let him settle back into the odi team and I'm sure we will see some better results.
 
He needs to play a big one soon otherwise he wiĺl go the Fawad Alam route although he might have more public and political support than Fawad
 
What else do you want him to do? He needs to accelerate by the time he gets to 50 otherwise the fickle Pakistani fans will start burning his effigies.

He probably has nightmares of people calling him 'Misbah junior'.

He is twice the batsman Fawad can ever dream to be. He has better technique,is more powerful, has better timing, can play pacers and spinners both and is the best batsman against Swing and Seam in ASIA. Yes Asia. Yes i said it. :)) and its true.
 
He is class. Just needs to lose a bit of weight but that's about it, I do like him otherwise.

When required run rate goes over 10, no batsman should sit and wait for others to hit (especially when in his case he is playing with the lower middle order) and even if he starts doing it, same fans will say 'bring in a better batsman who atleast tries to play big shots when required rather than this selfish player'.
 
Those who say Haris can't play T20s look at the recent domestic tournament. He did well there.

World class. Plays the ball with so much time. He needs to lose weight and work on his power hitting technique and he will have no flaws.

Such a shame the PCB and Misbah wasted a good 7 years and around 5k runs of his career. He would have established himself as one of the best batsman in the world by now and if he had debuted at 22 dare I say, a member of the "fab five". Only a matter of time till he proves himself as world class though In Sha Allah.
