Gary Neville says Mohamed Salah's "special" goal against Manchester City has reminded Liverpool of what they've been missing this season.
Salah's strike was enough for Jurgen Klopp's side to end City's unbeaten start to the campaign and close the gap between the sides to 10 points.
It was just Liverpool's third Premier League win of the season after nine matches, with Salah's unusually barren run in front of goal contributing to their slow start.
Salah's winner against City was just his third league goal of the season, while he has only 10 in the 24 top-flight matches he has played since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations in February.
But the Egyptian impressed at Anfield on Sunday, coming close to opening the scoring on two occasions before finally doing so in the 76th minute, when he controlled Alisson's long pass and turned Joao Cancelo in one movement before scooping a finish past Ederson.
Speaking on the latest edition of the Gary Neville Podcast, the former Manchester United and England defender said: "You remembered in that moment what Mo Salah has been in the last five years, and we've missed it in this last few months.
"He's not looked the same and has looked detached from what's happening at Liverpool but we've just seen something pretty spectacular.
"The right side of Liverpool's defence and Salah, who I think have been the two most underperforming areas in the team from the standards they've set over the last few years, were brilliant today.
"[Joe] Gomez and [James] Milner and Salah up front, they were really wonderful and supported by a big effort from everybody else.
"As he went through for the goal, I never thought he was missing. The finish is fantastic but the brilliant bit is that turn. It's really special.
"Cancelo could have just stayed a couple of yards behind Salah, let him bring it down and let his team-mates recover. That would have been the safe thing to do but Man City don't play that way - they play front foot.
"I don't know how he's ended up one-on-one. Kyle Walker normally plays that position and if he'd been playing today Cancelo wouldn't have been there and it would have been a lot harder for Salah to turn.
"A little bit of naivety from Cancelo. I was relatively strong for my size but there were certain players where you'd have to respect that they were going to get their body in and you weren't going to get the ball.
"Well done to Alisson, he saw the situation develop."

Liverpool need to sell him in the summer. He is not the player he was few years back & he is not getting any younger.
His body language & intensity has been all over the place after signing that big contract. Looks like he doesn’t really care anymore.

I have always said that Salah is a pace merchant. Technically, he isn't the best.
In todays era, it is more about manager's systems and tactics than ever before. Klopp's system makes Salah look better than he really is. At Rome & Fiorentina, he wasn't putting up the numbers that he has put up at Liverpool. Klopp's attacking system makes Salah's stats look otherworldly, which makes people put him in conversations that he has no right in being.

I agree was awful today and also against Leicester.
Ever since he came back from AFCON, he has lost it. I think seeing his team lose that final and also lose again to Senegal in the WC qualifying game has taken its on him.
He's done well with his new contract as Liverpool were desperate to keep him at the club especially with Mane going.
The Nunez partnership isn't going well either as Nunez is nowhere the play Mane was or Firminho has been.
Looked disinterested in both recent matches which must be worrying for LFC fans.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is "suffering" from being part of an unsettled front three this season, says manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Egypt striker has seven goals in 19 Premier League games this season having scored 23 om 2021-22.
He has played in three different front lines in his past three matches.
"Of course he is suffering," said Klopp. "It is specific, offensive play that requires a lot of work and a lot of information."

Big contracts can be a noose around the players and so far Salah has looked off the pace, but today he looked sharp. Liverpools problem is that they are over reliant on Salah as the MF has no visible impact on games.

Before today he scored 20 goals this season in all comps, plus assists. Any other player, these numbers would be raved about but Salah has higher standards because he is an ATG player.

But much less than expected because of the massive contract. He needs a MF that will create chances and ATM Liverpool MF has nothing to offer. They need to sign Maddison, Bellingham and another.

Jurgen Klopp has shrugged off Mohamed Salah’s tweet that there was “no excuse” for Liverpool’s failure to qualify for the Champions League as a “completely normal” reaction to their disappointment.
After six successive top-four finishes, which led to three Champions League finals and victory in the competition in 2019, Liverpool were condemned to fifth place this season when Manchester United beat Chelsea on Thursday.
And then Salah tweeted: “I’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum.”
But Klopp insisted it was just a spur-of-the-moment reaction and said his top scorer is fine now.
He said: “It is completely normal. In the world of social media so many bad things happen constantly and I don’t think that was one of them. It was just a normal description of his situation, of his feeling, and in that moment directly after the game he’s right. It’s not the moment to immediately any send optimistic messages but maybe an hour or a day later.
“The moment when it is a fact you cannot qualify for the Champions League anymore... even when I knew after the last game [against Aston Villa] they [Newcastle and Manchester United] need only one point, for me it was clear they would get that point. So I drew kind of a line underneath it. I’m a very optimistic person but, in this moment, I couldn’t see it.
“It was just a normal description of his feeling, and he’s right, but I saw him in the canteen an hour ago and he was smiling. He is not in a bad mood.”

He was poor for large parts of the season also, so has to take his fair share of the blame.

Not large parts, some games before the world cup.
Mo Salah is 3rd in Europe's top 5 leagues with assists/goals. Only behind Haaland and Messi. Mo saved us even in build ups, when not assisting or scoring.
Makes the Premier League seasons XI too.

He has been at the club for 6 years, won the league and the UCL and is a bonafide Liverpool legend. He has nothing left to achieve at the club and I don’t think he would want to play Europa at this stage of his career when he can walk into every UCL club.
