Since joining Liverpool, he has 103 goals and 37 assists in the hardest league in the world in 165 appearances, as well as 29 UCL goals and 10 assists in 47 games.

He's won the PL Golden Boot twice, and has a PFA Player of the Year award, as well as a Puskás award.

He's currently on 9 goals and 3 assists in 9 games in all competitions so far this season, and just off the back of one of the most brilliant goals he's ever scored in Liverpool's biggest league game, against Manchester City. You could not have asked for a better moment of world-class brilliance in such a pressure situation and game.

With those ridiculous numbers he's been putting up, and his blistering start to this season, is Mohamed Salah a candidate to currently be the best player on the planet?

'Mohamed Salah better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo', says Chris Sutton

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah "is the best player in the world" at the moment, says former Blackburn Rovers striker Chris Sutton.

Salah's stunner against Manchester City has been described as "one of the best goals of the Premier League era" by ex-England striker Alan Shearer.

The 29-year-old has scored nine goals in nine games this season.

"At this moment in time, he's better than [Lionel] Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo," Sutton said.

After scoring his 100th Premier League goal in September, Salah hit one of his best to give his side the lead again against Manchester City.

The Egypt striker set up the opening goal for Sadio Mane after an impressive run, but Phil Foden and then Kevin de Bruyne's deflected equaliser earned a point for City.

Sutton said Salah's "consistency levels" are what make him the world's best player at the moment.

In addition to his nine goals in nine games across all competitions, Salah - who is yet to agree a new contract extension at Anfield - has produced three assists.

The former Chelsea forward has averaged 21 goals per season across the last three Premier League campaigns and found the net 32 times in 2017-18.

"His numbers have been sensational the last few seasons," Sutton continued on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club.

"To do it on that stage, which he has done for so many years, it just sums up how brilliant he is.

"Consistency is what you look for and he is doing it season after season after season where others are falling away and Liverpool still haven't signed him up."

I am a fan of him.

But, he is not the best. Messi is the best.

No one’s going to deny that Ronaldo and Messi are the best.

Even though Messi scored that worldie against Man City. Salah’s the best in the world on current form.

Believe it or not, this is Salah's best start to a season ever. That’s insane considering the starts he’s had over the years!

Currently, yep no doubt.

Only Benzema and Lewy are competing with him.

Lewy plays in a inferior league, so his numbers are slightly higher than what they should be.

Messi hasn't done anything for psg yet, but if he does then he will be the best again.

He's an awesome player and on current form I'd say he is one of if not the best player in the world.

I mean there's an argument for
Lewandiwski but he's playing with a supercharged team in a League of effective minnows though I love the Bundes

On current form Messi and ronaldo are no longer the best players in the world i am afraid, Mo Salah is definitely up there if he was European he would have probably overtaken both this season.

I'm not even convinced he's the best footballer in the Premier League.

Most goals in the league since he joined, 2 golden boots (and he'll storm to another one this season), a PL and a CL (and he scored in the final).

The only one who can compete is De Bruyne, who's been far more attacking and playing further upfield since City dropped the striker role, yet had a slow season last year and is having a pretty slow start to this season. Case in point, he was dismal at Anfield (yet scored a deflected goal) while Salah almost single-handedly created/scored both of Liverpool's goals with sheer brilliance.

No. Messi and Ronaldo are both better.

Messi and Ronaldo are now past it. If you think Messi and Ronaldo are still playing at the same level or at the same level now as Salah is you've really got to get your head checked. Those two don't even make the starting line up of their teams anymore.

Salah probably best for liverpool/ seems to have lost his mojo now

Current form.

Its Salah - Lewandowski - Benzima

Salah is still improving, will reach his absolute peak this or next season.

For Liverpool fans its no concern if hes the world best atm or not, Salah is crucial to the team having success. Winning the PL or CL is most important, luckily we have already done this with most of the current team. If Salah continues his form, a bit of luck, one of those big trophies could be back at Anfied. :)

My head is fine thanks for your concern. Messi and Ronaldo are still doing the business for there sides whenever the are called for. Ronaldo at the moment is holding his team together.

Bear in mind with Salah, what makes him the best in the PL his his sheer consistency, he hardly misses a game and this is his 4th season with Liverpool.

Great players such as de Bruyne and Kane have faltered through injury or loss of form at some point in the last few seasons.

Even now Kane is having no impact and KDB is just coming back from injury. Ronaldo just starting his second stint in the PL so still unproven but can’t see him not having an impact.

From the bench lol. The greatest players in the world aren't even the first names on their respective team sheets. They're not even playing for the best teams in the world right now and still are down the pecking order and some would think they are still the best

Head check is in order, sir.

lost his mojo? LOL who are you people? It seems as though most people commenting here don't even watch football. You have to be really ignorant to make a comment such as that! lost his mojo lol.

He's scoring in literally every game he's played. 9 appearances and 9 goals. Plus a bunch of assists. If you call that losing his mojo I wonder what he needs to do to get his mojo back?

Some people, I tell you. LOL

Is Salah the best player in the world right now? No he is not so stop blabbering on about it, okay?? So what if the other's are on the bench every now and again? Often manager wants to save his best players from injury and for more important matches.

Is Salah the best player in the world right now? Debatable. You could say he's competing with the likes of Lewandowski and Benzema or even Kante. However, Ronaldo and Messi are now past it. They're very good players, don't get me wrong but they're just not at the top of their game anymore.

It seems as though you haven't watched a game of football since COVID started. Things have changed buddy.

I am talking off today no yesteryear. I know Salah scored a brilliant versus City yet overall I still rate Ronaldo and Messi higher. Ronaldo is holding Man Utd together where as Messi may be on the bench but is still awesome whenever he comes on. I have watched all Liverpool matches since the lockdown. No Salah is not the best at the moment.

WOW! what a freaaaaaking goal?! hahahaha.

Someone like to tell me he's not currently the best in the world at the moment?

Breaking the league scoring record in his debut season for the club, guiding them to a UCL final, the big one the following year and 2nd then the league. Still of the most productive players in the world in a season Liverpool tanked last year and now in his best form ever. What's this ** about 'currently the best' ... He's been consistently ridiculous!.

On current form - he has to be the best in the world.

Nobody else is at the same level.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp called Mohamed Salah "the best" player in the world after the Egyptian's sublime display in the 5-0 win at Watford.

Salah's glorious pass set up Sadio Mane's opening goal and he capped a sensational performance with a brilliant individual goal.

"He is top. We all see it. Who is better than him?" Klopp told BT Sport.

"His performance was massive today. The pass for the first goal was great and the second goal was special."

Salah has now scored in each of his past eight games for the Reds, the longest run of consecutive scoring appearances for the club since Daniel Sturridge, who also scored in eight, in February 2014.

His effort against the Hornets - weaving away from several defenders before curling into the far corner - was of similar quality to his goal in the Reds' last top-flight match, against Manchester City, which Klopp said would be remembered by supporters in "in 50 or 60 years' time".

"He's the kind of player who can do these things for us," Klopp added.

"They are different goals. The other one was slightly more dynamic with more space. Neither goal is possible for people with normal feet but it's possible for him and that makes it really special. You could see the way the team celebrated the goal that everyone knew it was something special."

Salah's goal takes him level with former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba as the highest-scoring African player in Premier League history with 104 goals.

Fellow Reds forward Mane, whose goal took his own Premier League tally to 100, added: "Mo is one of the best players in the world. That goal surprises you guys but we see it all the time in training."

Apart from Luka Modric in 2018, only Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo have won the Ballon d'Or for the world's best player since 2008.

However, Klopp believes that the 29-year-old is now eclipsing that vaunted duo.

"We don't have to talk about what Messi and Ronaldo have done for world football and their dominance. But right now, he [Salah] is the best.

"I see him every day. There are people like [Robert] Lewandowski and Ronaldo and Messi and [Kylian] Mbappe, but at this moment for sure he's on top of that list."

Speaking on BBC One, former England defender Martin Keown endorsed Klopp's view, saying: "The pass from Mo Salah to Sadio Mane was out of this world. We are seeing Salah at Lionel Messi's level."

Beaten Watford boss Claudio Ranieri added: "Mo Salah is one of the best players in the world, if not the best. Everything he touches is a goal."

Salah on current form (possibly at his career peak) makes Liverpool the favourites to win the league. It may well be this simple.

No denying the man is a role model, and a prolific scorer, Salah could well be the most effective on current form, but I wouldnt fall into the jugglery of calling him the best.
There’s something more to the game than just scoring. Salah is a similar impact player to ruud in his days.

There’s the art of zizou, cr7, messi ; theres the ruthlessness of a robben, or the enigma of a fat ronaldo - they would all score a goal or two less than salah, but would be in my book to be called the best/ something categorical of that order.

I enjoyed watching chiesa this euros, and am a fan of haaland, - i rank these two more in the category of a best footballer, so to speak

Its personal choice, and those were my two cents.

lol @ Chiesa and Haaland being better. Both are great players but they simply cannot do what Salah cdan with the ball. He not only scores all types of goals but is a great presser and Ive seen him run 60 yards into his own half to stop an attack many times. It would be rare for those two.

But sure its an opinion , there is no measurement here. However all the great ex players who are now pundits in the UK feel he is the best on current form. This could change in 4/5 matches such is football.

Super Mo now putting the Europeans to the sword. Jinked past Atletico players as if they weren't there. Producing on the big stage.

No one can stop him, not even Simeone. Without doubt, the best player in the world right now.

Looks like the yanks are gonna let salah go like wijnaldum on a free .

Liverpool fans need to be outside and rioting if salah leaves because these yanks can't come up with 20 million a year for salahs wages

I must say, the sight of Salah cutting in from the right wing and starting to dance past defenders as he looks to line up the perfect shot on his magical left foot is quite mesmerising.

Mohamed Salah has been immortalised in wax in London thanks to the iconic Madame Tussauds, with the Egyptian King’s reach beyond the football pitch continuing to grow day by day.

Absolute at his peak , cut above the rest.

Definetly a player who is among the Liverpool legends

Yet yanks won't cough up the wages for his final contract .

He’s making it all look very easy at the moment. Never seen a more apparently effortless hat trick I don’t think. Such unbelievable form he’s in.

LOL at people who think there are better players out there than Salah and the audacity of people like [MENTION=142169]PakLFC[/MENTION] to say Ronaldo is better.

Like I said last week, its not even a debate.
The guy is just on. different level at the moment.
Not only scoring goals, but making assists too.

The debate should now be whether is the it best to have ever played in the Premier League.

Salah is having a great spell and playing in a far batter team. A great player no doubt but put Salah in Man Utd's team and he too would struggle.

In my opinion, Salah is fourth best in the world after Mbappe, Pogba and Chiesa.

Liverpool and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah, 29, wants a £500,000-a-week contract to stay with the Reds. (Football Insider)

He wants to go to Madrid but is having to placate the world's most entitled fans

Madrid can't afford him and Mbappé. If Mbappé goes to Madrid then the only club able to afford Salah is PSG and I highly doubt he'd want to play in a mickey mouse league

Yes because Henry and Ronaldo played (play) hockey.

On current form, he is the best player in the world and also the best diver in the world, although Neymar will have something to say about the latter.

As far as the new contract is concerned, it is a tough one for Liverpool. He is at his absolute peak right now, but he will be 30 in about 6 months.

Liverpool’s team, especially the front three, is aging. The midfield is no spring chicken either, and they have to be careful about transitioning the squad.

Klopp is also unlikely to stay beyond 2023, and the next manager will bring in his own philosophy and tactics, and some of the players will not be suitable to his style.

IMO, Liverpool should bite the bullet and sell Salah if they get a massive bid from Madrid/PSG. They can sustain this level by investing in 2-3 top young players.

Generally speaking, if you get a huge offer for a player in his 30s or who is about to hit 30 and you turn it down, you are basically illustrating that you do not back yourself to spend the money wisely.

lol.

You know nothing about football.

For others reading.

1. Ive already told you diving is when there is no contact. On the contrary Salah has been fouled numerous times but continued to stay on his feet because he wants to score. He is not a diver, he will go down if fouled, perhaps on the odd occasion easily but all players do this, as is their right.

2. We don't live in the 80's. Today footballers are physically far far superior. So many are playing into the late 30's. Salah is one of the fittest footballers in the world. Without any serious injury he will be playing until well after 35. He may decline but will still be good enough to score, assist plenty.

3. Real have little money. PSG do but its a famers league, which a team such as Arsenal would challenge for the title this season. If LFC don't give him his fare price , he has every right to leave. After all he owes LFC nothing, he's more than paid off his fee and wages. But im sure he will sign the contract in the next few weeks.

The best player on form is Benzema. Salah is the second best with Lewandowski third best.

Benzema cannot do what Salah does. Great finisher but he cant dribble past 3/4 , put them on their backside and stick it in the net from 12 yards out.

You are playing a solid defensive team, highly organised. No player or moves can get you even a shot on target. 10 mins to go, you got Salah and Benzema on the bench. 8/10 would put Salah on because of his variety of destructive ability.

If his form dips in the next month, he will be back down imo but those two play in easier leagues, so will continue for longer.

I don’t need lectures from someone like you. I do not value your opinions. Salah is a diver and there is no debate over it - if you want to live in denial it is your choice.

PSG has a lot of pull these days. The narrative that Ligue 1 is a farmer’s league is also getting outdated. PSG is clearly the future of European football, Paris is a huge attraction and Ligue 1 is also getting better.

PSG with the greatest front three in the world and the greatest player of all time is struggling to breakdown defenses this season. The same PSG that easily defeated Man City. The same Man City that were eliminated by Lyon in the UCL not long ago.

You need to watch more football outside PL. I am sure you don’t even know that PSG aren’t even the French champions right now, so you should thank me for educating you.

A team like Brighton are a just a point behind UCL spot this season so far and Arsenal can find themselves in the top 4 in a couple of weeks, so you should look at the standard of the PL this season before mocking Ligue 1.

Are Ronaldo and Messi also divers?

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been named the EA Player of the Month for October, with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel taking the manager's award.

Salah scored a hat-trick to inspire Liverpool to a 5-0 win over rivals Manchester United and netted outstanding individual goals against both Manchester City - which incidentally was named Goal of the Month - and at Watford.

The Egyptian had nine goal involvements in league games in October, helping Liverpool to two wins and two draws.

"He is phenomenal. For sure, at the moment, he is the best player in the world."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may well be biased, but he has had a front-row seat to witness the incredible form of forward Mohamed Salah - and the Egypt international could grab yet another record very soon.

If the 29-year-old scores or registers an assist in Thursday's home game against 19th-placed Newcastle - a side he has never failed to score against at Anfield - then Salah will have equalled Jamie Vardy's record of scoring or creating a goal in 15 consecutive Premier League matches.

Jamie Vardy's run came in 2015 for Leicester, Stan Collymore's for Nottingham Forest and Liverpool in 1995, Andrew Cole's for Newcastle in 1994 and Mesut Ozil's for Arsenal in 2015
But records are nothing new for the incredible Salah.

In October he became the first Liverpool man to score in nine successive games and the hat-trick against Manchester United in the following match left him as the highest-scoring African player in Premier League history, overtaking Didier Drogba's mark of 104 goals.

These records can be added on to a whole heap of historical achievements in the red of Liverpool.

His 32 goals in 2017-18 remains the highest in a 38-game Premier League season, he is Liverpool's all-time Champions League top goalscorer (33) and became the fastest foreign player to tally 100 goal involvements in the Premier League, to name just a few.

Salah's 2021 statistics for goal involvements is superb. As of 15 December, he had scored eight more Premier League goals (23) than the next man on the list - Tottenham's Harry Kane (15).

Only Liverpool team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold (12) has more assists, but only just, by one. If you combine the goals and assists from Salah, no-one comes close in 2021.

Most Premier League goal involvements in 2021
While Salah is out on his own in 2021 goal contributions, he is still well short of the best calendar-year record in Premier League history.

That is held by Kane after an incredible 2017 in which he scored 39 goals for Tottenham and claimed seven assists for a total of 46 goal involvements in only 36 league games.

Kane is closely followed by Alan Shearer (1995 - Blackburn), Robin van Persie (2011 - Arsenal), Thierry Henry (2003 and 2004 - Arsenal) and Matt Le Tissier (1994 - Southampton), who all recorded 44 goal involvements in a calendar year.

Manchester City's Raheem Sterling became the 32nd player to reach 100 Premier League goals on Saturday and, of those 32, Salah has the fourth best goals-per-game ratio.

Alan Shearer is the all-time top goalscorer in Premier League history with 260 goals from 441 appearances, but Salah is already storming up the list and, from 174 matches, currently has 111 goals, the joint 22nd highest total.

It is a far cry from his start in English football as after 13 Premier League games at Chelsea between 2013 and 2015, he had only found the net twice before disappearing to Roma and Serie A.

But since Liverpool paid £34m to bring Salah back to English football in June 2017, he has shone brightly and helped the Reds win the Premier League, Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and Fifa World Club Cup.

It is a high bar, but this season could be his best yet for Jurgen Klopp's side. He already has 14 goals from 16 Premier League games, as well as another seven in six Champions League matches, including a number of magnificent goals.

But he also has nine Premier League assists in 2021-22, only one short of his best from any campaign, as he has responded to critics who have called him selfish in the past.

Salah's Premier League record

Screenshot 2021-12-16 141121.jpg

So, what records could Salah get in the rest of this season?

The main one is he could become Liverpool's all-time leading Premier League goalscorer.

Robbie Fowler (128 league goals in 266 games for the Reds) is the current record holder, followed by Steven Gerrard (120 goals, 504 games), Michael Owen (118 goals, 216 games) and Salah (109 goals, 161 games).

Salah is joint 12th in the overall list of Premier League goals for one club and his next goal will take him clear of Ryan Giggs, although the Egyptian still has a long way to go to get to Sergio Aguero's 184 goals that he managed at Manchester City.

Salah is tied 22nd overall in the number of Premier League goals and it surely will not be long before he forces his way into the top 20.

Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad will offer Liverpool 60m euros (£51.8m) for Mohamed Salah and are prepared to pay the 31-year-old Egypt forward 180m euros (£155m) over a two-year deal. (Al Riyadiah)

Mohamed Salah's agent has emphatically ruled out the possibility of the Egyptian making an eye-watering move to the Saudi Pro League this summer - insisting the forward "remains committed" to Liverpool.

Reports from Saudi Arabia on Sunday night claimed Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad had approached Salah's representatives over a lucrative deal for the forward to move to the Middle East - which would see the 31-year-old bank €180 million over two seasons. However, the player's agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, took to Twitter on Monday to deny such claims.

"If we considered leaving LFC this year, we wouldn’t have renewed the contract last summer," said Issa. "Mohamed remains committed to LFC."

The 31-year-old forward has two years left on his current deal at Anfield after penning the most lucrative contract in the club's history last summer.

"Mohamed Salah is being substituted and he is not happy about it! He's angrily chucking off tape from around his hand as Harvey Elliott replaces him."

Mohamed Salah has scored 198 goals in all competitions for Liverpool and he starts today hoping to add to that tally.

He could become the fifth player to reach 200 for the club after Ian Rush, Roger Hunt, Gordon Hodgson and Billy Liddell.

He’s scored 11 goals for the Reds against Manchester City (only netting more against Manchester United - 12).

That is the highest amount any player has scored against sides managed by Pep Guardiola.

Liverpool and Manchester City played out an excellent 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon, and Mohamed Salah broke yet another personal record.

The Egyptian winger grabbed an assist for Trent Alexander-Arnold late in the game as the Reds ended City's 23-game winning streak at home.

This assist took Salah to 17 goal contributions against City in just 20 games.

This consists of 11 goals and six assists, meaning Salah is always a thorn in City's side.

There is no other side he's faced in his career that he's had more personal success against.

Before this assist, his record against Man City was tied with Manchester United, with 16 goal contributions in 12 matches.

So it's clear that Salah loves playing against the Manchester sides.

The assist for Alexander-Arnold summed up Salah's growth as a footballer.

After receiving a pass from Luis Diaz on the right, he waited for the perfect moment to roll a lovely ball into the England international, who took it in his stride and buried a strike into the bottom corner.

He will feel he could have had more assists as well, as he set up Darwin Nunez twice only to see Ederson make two top saves to deny the Uruguayan.
